About constants

can we assign some dynamic value while declaring the constant. if not give some other logic to assign dynamic value to a constant.
parameter: p_char(25) obligatory.
data: len type i.
len = strlen(p_char).
constant c value len.
here 'len' field contains variable length, this variable length has to be assigned to a constant. How can it be done, can u help me out?

It aint a constant if the value can change.

i couldn't start anew thread a few minutes ago. I replied to 2 threads, then the startanew thread iconmagically appeard! I am not making it up.
any way- i posted a while back about noise. I thought it may be the hard drive. But definatley it sounds like the fan(s) in my MBP dual core
my MPB was silen when i first bough it. then a few month in it got noisy. Now thw fans are on all the time.
anyone else with a MPB that is just noisy? this *****! macs are almost always quiet. this is annoying acually. and it is non stop! i can't recal a moment when the fns were not winding like tiny air craft jet engines! LOL wel, it's not that funy actually.
the noise does change in pitch on occasion. sort of like they slow down a tiny bit. other wise they just hum away.
I had a G-4 I mac- SILENT! then a dual G-5 tower- it was quest until it roared up on a task, then it roared with power then got quiet again.
but this tiny mpbis just noisy!
Well, i hoope it is the fans, not the HD. It prettty much sounds like fans, and constant.
but considering theroom temp is abou 68 in here, whywould the fans be on? and non stop?
we live in a cold climate, so it's not a 100 weather.
any help with the fans and perhaps a test or a way to turn them down? does my system think the core is hot?

only about 13% is a peak ap. nothing major, nor a lot of stuff. but nothing consuming 30 40 or more percent or anything. Nothing running except safar in this case, activity monitor.nothingexcessive like 10 aps , whihc i have done in the past as we know the macs can handle it
well, nothing seems out of the ordinary.

current temp at that moment was 101F
can someone compare their fans to mine and their temp- i assume it is the cpu core temp.

as for that iStat pro ap. i opened it and it just made my application dock bar flash then the dock came back. The Istat pro didn't open.
Um- it looks like a widget. I may have taken my widget ap of some time ago. I hve yahoo widgets on. but not sure how to get that istat to work. I can't even recall the name of the apple widget program.

What can I do about constant beachballing and slowness?

For the past four months my computer has been painfully slow. It beachballs constantly and for long periods of time, especially in Safari (not sure about other browsers). Sometimes all of the windows I have up go blank and appear to refresh themselves. The CPU usage is high at random intervals even though I don’t have much running. My laptop is running Snow Leopard and is almost 4 years old, so I understand slowing with age, but I feel like something else is wrong.
I still have the OS software but I'd prefer not to lose everything by reinstalling.

Let’s start with gathering some basic info.
(I think the following sequence works on Snow Leopard. If not it is close and you can futz to find the info.)

I recently rejuvenated a 2009 MacBook from slow to quite fast with a combination of an OS reïnstall and hardware upgrades. With the RAM upgrade the applications went from a long time to start to staring almost instantly and the boot time improved by 2x with an 8 GB RAM upgrade (~$100) and another 5x with a clean install and an upgrade from a disk to an SSD. Let’s see how fast your Mac will go with some system maintenance and then you may want to consider RAM and/or disk upgrades.
In general, slowness can also be caused by incompatible 3rd-party software or an unhealthy SSD/disk. Four months ago did you download any 3rd-party software or plugins? If so that may lead down the software compatibility route. Otherwise it may be a disk and/or RAM issue.
Over time one accumulates more 3rd-party plugins that take more memory. If you have 1 or 2 GB of memory then more RAM can really help. Your machine “almost four year old” Mac would make it a 2009 model which may hold up to 8 GB of RAM (a ~$100 upgrade). I can check that when you report back with the specific system info.
You mentioned not wanting to lose your data. Make sure you have a current backup. You should always have a current backup anyway and it is particularly important if your Mac having problems. If you do not have a Time Machine or other backup, create one before you proceed. You will need an external drive you will dedicated to the backup.

Check the health of your disk using Disk Utility
Finder > Go > Utilities > Disk Utility
Select the upper left disk icon > Look at the S.M.A.R.T. status.
If it does not say “Verified” then the SSD/disk will need to be replaced. Definitely backup your system.
Select the volume icon slightly indented to the right usually labeled “Macintosh HD” > Verify Disk
If it finishes with "The Volume XXX appears to be OK.” then the filesystem is healthy.

If so then there are Login Items that may be causing the problem.

What can I do about constant re-rendering? :(

Recently I have encountered a problem. Here's an example of what happens.
I import a file into final cut, drag into my time-line, render all and
begin cutting. Now... suppose I want to check my e-mail or switch to another
application for some reason. I switch to that other application and when I
switch back to final cut everything needs to be rendered again. I get that
red bar at the top of the time-line every single time I click away from final
cut. Even if I render then save it doesn't matter. If I leave final cut and come back it means i have to render all over again.
What can i do to solve this?
Is there anyone that can help?

Shane's Stock Answer #28: When I put a clip in the timline, I have to render it before it will play. Why?
Your clip settings MUST match your timeline settings. If you have DV/NTSC material, you need a DV/NTSC timeline. The frame rate, audio rate and dimensions (4:3, 16:9) all need to match exactly. In Final Cut Pro 6, this is easy, because when you drop a clip into the timeline, it asks if you want to set up the timeline to match the settings of the first clip you drag into it. Click YES and you are ready to go.
However, in FCP 5.1 and earlier, it is a bit trickier.
The most important thing you need to do is properly set up your project from the start, and the best way to do this is to choose a setting from the Easy Setups, located under the Final Cut Pro menu.
Once you do this, you’ll need to create a new sequence. This is because the sequence that is already in your new project is setup for the typical default setting of DV/NTSC, or for the settings of your last project, which might not match what you are currently working with. So delete SEQUENCE 1 and create a new sequence:
This new sequence will contain the settings you chose in the Easy Setup menu, and should match the format you captured.

Stumped about constant connection drops

I just upgraded from 18 mbs to 45 and have had nothing but continuous connection drops. Seems like every 15 to 20 minutes, often after a period of inactivity, the wired connection just disconnects. I am as frustrated as I could possibly be. We ditched the Uverse TV because of an abundance of issues and now I'm ready to kick this NVG 589 gateway down the street, too. My info is below. Typically, I'm good while working on the computer, then dead in the water when I'm not. I see dozens of other members with this same issue and no luck as far on how to get around it. What can I do about constant shockwave failures?

Shockwave fail several times daily, almost constantly. I would like to un-install it from my computer. How do I do that?

hello, "shockwave" is the adobe flash plugin - many sites won't work with out it. you can remove the plugin from the windows control panel/programs section though.
another way to troubleshoot the flash plugin would be to [http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1018071#TemporaryWorkaround disable the protected mode] and to see if this is making a difference.

A question about constant streaming...

Hello all,
This question is a complete curiosity of mine and doesn't need answers detailed down to the nuts and bolts level. Just an overview with a bit o' tech would be sufficient.
Let's say you had either video files or audio files that you wanted to broadcast continuously, like internet radio. Either the same file(s) in a loop, or in a predetermined stream...or maybe a random selection? People could then log on to your website to watch/hear the live stream, again, like Internet radio.
Could this be done with FMSS or would one need FMIS to create a daily/weekly/monthly playlist?

I did not get your question correctly though i will just try answering.
Don't know whether that would good way of doing it - may be you can use some other server-side technology to get say XML based playlist and then client plays those files from VOD and Live - it will require solid client side scripting and some other server-side technology along with FMS (if you are using FMSS)

In the same way as with InfoObjects, you can also select a restricted key figure or a cell in a selection as a constant.

FiOS IPS server suspected of blocking emails from Constant Contact

My homeowners assocation cannot get emails through to me at {edited for privacy}, but they do get emails through to my wife at {edited for privacy}. These emails are administered by Constant Contact, who suspect the FiOS servers of blocking emails to me. They suggest that I send you the following information:

Constant loud buzzing over top of dial tone

I am having a similar complaint that another customer posted about, "Constant Buzzing on line". I am in southern New Jersey just outside of Philly, and this problem was first recognized approximately Sept. 19th. I went out of town and felt that the problem would likely be remedied by my return. On Sept. 24th the same problem was still present. I disconnected all of my premise equipment and connected a "butt set" (handheld phone that the techs use to connect directly to the wires) to just the line coming in from the pole, and the problem was still there which rules out any "interior" equipment malfunction.
Original service appointment was scheduled for Thur. Sept. 29 from 8AM to Noon, however mid-week the internet updated my service visit time to Friday Sept. 30 from 8AM to Noon. Once again, mid-day on Friday the internet updated my service visit time now to 8PM. No-show on Friday (or Saturday), with no results on the line yet.
7PM Sunday evening Oct. 2, received an automated computer call on my cell phone telling me that they performed tests on all of their equipment and found no problems. The call then advanced to asking me a survey to rate my satisfaction of the field technician that visited my property. Was home all day no knock or call on my cell#, and problem still exists. Very poor repair service for a "phone not usable" condition.

New to Pre. Some issues! (ringtone, transfers etc)

I had a Samsung D900 for 2 years and just upgraded to Pre (O2-UK). To my horror I realised I cannot transfer my contacts via bluetooth!! How crazy is that Palm??! so I copied my contact numbers to my sim card which only holds 250, that is short of 100 on my phone memory!
I do not have Outlook
I do not have google acc or MS exchange
I do not want to cough up more money to buy another software
1-What is my best bet of transferring my old contacts to Pre. Also some of my precious old texts? (i'm not fussy about constant sync)
2-How can I copy the contacts from sim to Pre?
3-I updated my Pre software last night. I cannot listen to any of the sample ringstones!!! so i have to keep calling myself from another phone to hear the **bleep** thing! Anyone has the same issue?
Please note that I am not an idiot and am electronic engineer myself but I think Palm has failed to get some of the basics absolutly covered before pimping up the other fancy stuff here. It gives me a mixed and confused feeling. From one hand I like it and wanted something other than iPhone since everyone got one! On the other hand, some basic things are such a pain! Why on earth putting bluetooth when you cannot take a full advantage of it?!! Madness!

They changed my name to Joe Bonamassa { my favorite musician} in my phone contact profile. They also completely removed my daughters phone contact profile! It seems like I am being hacked constantly! I think I know who it is! I did block this person on my phone and the computer, and yet he still leaves phone messages on the voice mail. I am having problems with my home phone also,which I use as a business phone. It is Bright House network, and the voicemail does not always work! Bad for my business! This person has several phones, including his parents cell phone. So far I do not know how to block all his calls on my house phone. He does not call me very much, but he is upset I do not talk to him anymore. It may not be him, but I suspect he is the one, he works on his home computer all night,trading on E-Bay. What do you do about constant hacking? I give up, I will not keep resetting the password. Please help if you can. Thanks!

MSI K9A2VM shutdown

I have a 3 year old MSI K92VM with an AMD Phenom II x4 945 processor. Whenever doing photo edits or even lengthy photo brousing my computer will spontaneously shut down as if someone pulled the line cord. This problem started several months ago. Running SIW shows that temperature TMPIN0 (whatever device that is) beginns to run away shortly after photo work begins; it starts at about 46C and the computer shuts off when after it reaches 96C or higher. All fans are working and the case and vents are clean. Does anyone have experience with this or have a suggestion about what might be a fix? I contemplated putting in a discrete video card but don't want to go that route without some idea that it would solve the problem.

I thought I would post an update for anyone else that encounters this problem. After running for an entire day with photoediting software running the computer again turned off just before I pressed shutdown. I thought that perhaps the fan was being intermittent, so I took out the case screws and the next day monitored the temp while I was working. It started a continual but very gradual rise, so I popped the cover to check the CPU fan with a flashlight. It was running fine. but when I looked through the fan blades I couldn't see an air path through the heat sink! Strange! I unscrewed the fan from the heat sink to find a thin, compact layer of dust completely obscuring the fins. I removed that with a stiff brush and vacuum and the temp dropped from an initial 65C to a just about constant 32-33C. The computer has been working fine ever since. Once again, thanks. I wouldn't have gone that troubleshooting route without your help.
