About executables in Java

Hi all,
I've heard that it is possible to create an .exe file written in java.
Till now i thought that a compiler creates class files that are executed inside VM. On the other hand .exe files are executed by the Operating System, right? Isn't it a little weird? Besides there is no compiler parameter that will create an exe file instead of a class file (as far as i know).
May someone tell me if this can be done after all and if yes, how?
Isn't it against Java's philosophy?
Thanks..

Can anyone please tell which is the best
Excecutable JAR or *.exe?(1) if you use JAR, and you don't have
any platform-specific assumptions in your Java code,
then your program can run in Windows, Linux, Mac...
But EXE is (in general) only executable in Windows.
(2) if you use EXE or JNI or other similar tricks,
you can often get more intimate interaction with the underlying OS.
So if you need it, then of course you have to do it.
Finally, professional Java->Exe is expensive.
One of the most popular product for doing this is
http://www.excelsior-usa.com/jet.html
And it costs between $1200 and $4500.
Can executable jar files be opened or unzipped to
obtain the .class files?Yes
Can applications written in Java that are made into
exe files be "violated" in any way to obtain the code?Depends on how the EXE was made.
If it is a true re-compilation into x86 instructions,
then it is impossible to obtain the entire original code.
(But it is still very easy to disassemble the interesting
portion of the EXE in order to defeat poorly-written security features
that are in the program)

  • How to execute one java file in another java file

    Hi All!
    I hava a problem.. I need to validate functionality of one java file in my Junit test case.. so, I need to run that java file in my test file..
    How should I start with???? Are there any java API's for that.. I checked 'system' ..but which function will suite that functionality,,I am not sure about..

    I need to check the functionality of deletetion which
    is done by a java class.. Now I need to check this
    functionality..whether it is deleting or not... in my
    test case.. so, for that I need to execute that java
    file in similar manner as how we normally do it...,
    in my test case..So let the test case create a file and have your class delete it. What's there to run?

  • Executing a java class in Integrator

    I have to execute a java class in Endeca Integrator. How must I go about doing this? Can i use the JavaExecute component? If yes, are there any examples of the syntax of this java class. The document states that the transformation attributes must implement a JavaRunnable interface. Can someone provide me examples of such a java class. Please help
    Thanks

    Take a look at this page in the Clover documentation: Help - Eclipse .  It has some details on the API methods of JavaExecute.

  • I have been getting java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: ZeroApplet.class and java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: JavaToJS.class crashes with JRE version 1.6.0_26-b03-384-10M3425 VM executing a Java Applet. Is Apple aware of this problem? No longer supported?

    My web page uses a Java Applet to allow my visitors to replay chess games; the Chess Viewer Deluxe applet was written by Nikolai Pilafov some time ago and has been working properly for some time (until recently). I don't monitor this part of my site regularly so I am not sure when it began to fail. On his web site [http://chesstuff.blogspot.com/2008/11/chess-viewer-deluxe.html] he has a link to check LiveConnect object functionality (which fails for OBJECT tags). His recommendation is to "seek platform specific support which might be available from the JRE developers for your platform".
    I have been getting java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: ZeroApplet.class and java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: JavaToJS.class crashes with JRE version 1.6.0_26-b03-384-10M3425 VM executing a Java Applet. Until I checked the LiveConnect object functionality, I was unable to identify the source of the console error messages. This does seem to be the smoking gun.
    Is Apple aware of this problem? Are these classes no longer supported? Has anyone else had this problem? You can attempt to recreate the problem locally by going to my web page: http://donsmallidge.com/DonSmallidgeChess.html
    Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

  • I want to execute other java thread in the JNI.

    Hi!
    I would like to execute other java native thread concurrently in the Java Native Interface.
    When a Java thread called a native thread to use java native interface, Java thread is blocking for processing native thread.
    So, other java threads don't execute because they are blocking.
    Why do these problems occur at JVM(personal basis profile:CVM)?
    I hope you explain this reason in detail.
    Regard.

  • A question about design of Java Application on java card.

    Hi every one,
    I have a question about design of Java applet on java card,
    There is an application on my card that it is not java card, it include a DF and some EF under DF, I would like to know if I want to have this application on java card ,how can I design DF and EF on java card ,I mean is there any relation between DF,EF with applet and file? for example can I say DF is same as applet and EF is same as file?
    I'll appreciate for any help .
    yours sincerely,
    orchid

    hi
    you can write a java class for DF.
    an instance of DF class have some EF objects.
    for example,
    samples/com/sun/javacard/samples/JavaPurse/CyclicFile.java
    implements ISO 7816 CyclicFile ( EF )

  • Question about the new JAVA Update J2SE 5.0 Release 3

    Here is some info about this update:
    Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Release 3 allows applications and applets developed for the J2SE 5.0 platform to run on Mac OS X v 10.4.2 and later.
    This update does NOT CHANGE the DEFAULT VERSION of Java on your Mac from Java 1.4.2 to J2SE 5.0, though Java applications that require J2SE 5.0 may specifically request it. You can change the preferred Java version for applications and applets by using the new Java Preferences utility. This utility is installed by the J2SE 5.0 update at /Applications/Utilities/Java/J2SE 5.0/.

    This update makes me nervous cause I don't know much about Java. IF I change my default version to this new 5.0 will it mean that some of the older Java stuff on the web won't work? Should I just download this and ignore it? What should I do about this update?
    Thanks for the help!
    Renée

    I too seem to be suffering issues with loading web pages after the 10.4.3/Java 5.0 update. I have reinstalled both updates, changed the java settings, emptied all the caches, and tried various combinations thereof, and I still have problems with web pages loaded. most of the problems appear to be related to rendering frames and images - In fact a couple of web sites I navigate to (upon looking at the source for the page" state "It appears your browser does not support frames." I think this is something broken in the latest release. Unfortunately, I cannot reinstall the latest copy of Safari, because the installer states "This version of Safari cannot be installed. It requires version 10.4.2." I guess I am in a pickle until Apple comes out with another update. BTW I have some pages that Safari will not render but IE running on the same box will. I also noticed that the problem propagated to other applications that use Java....For instance the Dashboard widget from google (Google Maps) no longer renders the tiled (framed?) map pieces...instead you get the ubiquitous "?" icon.

  • Executing new Java Program

    Hey,
    So I'd like to be able to execute another java program.
    File directory = new File(".");
                try {
                    List<String> l = new ArrayList<String>();
                    l.add("Java "+directory.getCanonicalPath+"AnotherProject/bin/main.class");
                    ProcessBuilder pb = new ProcessBuilder(l);
                    pb.start();
                } catch (IOException ex) {
                    ex.printStackTrace();
                }What am I doing wrong? I'm getting the error: "No such file or directory."

    That is entirely up to you! That will be your entry point. If you are able to think of you application as two parts one server, one client part and you have no problems building the separate parts into "working" applications, then their respective main methods would be good enough as start-methods. It's just a name.
    Really, the principle is as easy as this, Suppose you have a HelloWorld class (think Server) and a GoodbyeMoon class (think client) looking like:
    public class GoodbyeMoon {
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              System.out.println("Good bye, Moon!");
    }Then you're application can do this:
    public class LoginMain {
         public static void main(String[] args) {
                    // ... GUI to select MOON or WORLD
                    if (userSelection == MOON ) {
                          GoodbyeMoon.main(null);
                    } else {
                          HelloWorld.main(null);
    }

  • Financial Reporting Exception - Error executing query: java.lang.Arithmetic

    Hi all,
    I'm using the Financial Reporting Studio 11.1.2.507 to develop a report to a planning application, so i'm using a planning connection to do it. This report involves some calcs and i have sure that is possible generate a divide by zero. But what happen is: I started developing this report using the user admin and no error message was shown. Then when i tryed to acess this report with a user other than the admin user the error occurs: "Error executing query: java.lang.ArithmeticException: / by zerojava.lang.ArithmeticException".
    So, have you seen this scenario before?
    Could you help me with this issue?
    p.s: if i wasn't clear enough, please tell me!
    Warm regards,
    Rafael Melo - Brasil

    Mehmet,
    Thanks a lot for your quick response. The error message appears when i acess through the workspace. When I was developing I was acessing with admin user (FR Studio) and now I'm using other user to test the report in the workspace. I've commited a mistake when i thought that the user point of view that I defined when i was developing would be applied over all users. So, when I opened the report with a user other than the admin the error ocurred because the default attributes resulted in a empty resultset or something like that.
    Is there a way to define a user point of view (pov) for all user at once?
    Best Regards,
    Rafael Melo

  • Batch prog to execute remote java program

    hi all
    i have one batch file which executes the local java program ....
    but i want to execute a java program in a remote machine....
    how do i do this..? kindly help

    Well this is what I do in Windows (I use XP but it works in others):
    First you have to make sure all the class files are in the same folder (duh)
    Then you copy your java.exe from your jre folder into the folder with all your class files.
    Finally, you create a shortcut to java.exe and add your class name to the command line on the shortcut.
    Now all you have to do is double click on the shortcut and your program runs. Sure it's not that pretty but it works.
