About Form Server

I am trying to resolve the issue of forms but my form server is not coming up. No connectivity is established. Please tell me that what should I do. What files and directories I would look into and what would be my approach at a broad level.
Any help would be useful.
Thanks Guys.

Hi;
I am trying to resolve the issue of forms but my form server is not coming up. No connectivity is established. Please tell me that what should I do. What files and directories I would look into and what would be my approach at a broad level. What is your EBS version? It was working before? If yes what have been changed? Did you try to run autoconfig on appstier and dbtier? Please give more details

  • How to deploy forms 6i with forms server 6i

I am trying to deploy some 6i forms with 6i forms server.I have to use this old technology and only this technology as its for a college project.
I have this information about forms server but i cant work it out:
6.2.2 Deploying the Executable Files on Your Web Server
You can deploy your Forms applications in any directory on your Web server. You must include the appropriate directory path and filename in the base HTML file. This is the file that users access to run the application. If you created a virtual directory (e.g., /dev60html) to specify the location of your base HTML file, you should deploy your base HTML file in this location.
So does that mean i can save the forms into this directory C:\orant\FORMS60\server?
C:\orant\FORMS60\server\base.htm is this the base file?
How do i specify in this base file what directory the forms are in?
In the base file already i have:%HTMLbeforeForm% %HTMLafterForm%
Do i just type in the directory after?
    Confused.Please help.
    Thanks

  • Confused about the 11g R2 Forms Server and using SSL

    All,
I just installed the 11g R2 Forms Server software without configuring it.
I then ran the config.sh script to configure it which creates a weblogic server domain.
I'm a bit confused now. If I run opmnctl status command I get the following:
    Processes in Instance: frmrep_inst_1
    --------------------------------------------------------------+---------
    ias-component | process-type | pid | status
    --------------------------------------------------------------+---------
    emagent_frmrep_inst_1 | EMAGENT | 28279 | Alive
    RptSvr_eiaorapptest_frmrep_ins | ReportsServerComp~ | 28124 | Alive
    ohs1 | OHS | 27831 | Alive
This looks to me like there is an Oracle Http Server installed.
Is the Oracle Http Server answering web calls when I run forms or is the Weg Logic Server answering the call?
Also, the Oracle Forms Installation Documentation talks about securing your environment with Oracle Identity Manager but we are not using Oracle Identity Manager. I want to use SSL but I'm not sure how to secure the environment with SSL. Do I need to configure the WebLogic server to use SSL or the OHS?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

Fusion Middleware 11.1.x does include HTTP Server (OHS) and also requires WLS. Both HTTP Server and WLS are http listeners, amongst other things. So whether WLS handles a request or HTTP Server does it will be entirely up to you and/or the end-user.
OHS has a listener which by default (in FMw) listens for requests on port 8888. On the other hand WLS_FORMS is preconfigured to listen on port 9001.
This means that if your URL looks like the following, WLS_FORMS will directly answer the client:
    <blockquote>http://server:9001/forms/frmservlet?form=abc</blockquote>
If the URL looks like the following, the HTTP Server will reply:
    <blockquote>http://server:8888/forms/frmservlet?form=abc</blockquote>
The request path when using OHS as the listener to call Oracle Forms would look like this:
    <blockquote>CLIENT --- OHS --- WLS_FORMS --- FORMS SERVLET --- FORMS RUNTIME (frmweb.exe) --- DATABASE</blockquote>
The request path when using WLS_FORMS as the listener to call Oracle Forms would look like this:
    <blockquote>CLIENT --- WLS_FORMS --- FORMS SERVLET --- FORMS RUNTIME (frmweb.exe) --- DATABASE</blockquote>
Although removing OHS from the path would seem to be better because it is one less server to administer and less system resources consumed, generally it would be argued that the advantages of having it will outweigh the disadvantages.
There are numerous advantages to use OHS in front of WLS, but the most obvious should be that OHS can be set up so that you have one and only one entry point into your FMw environment. In other words, even though for example Forms WLS listens on 9001 and Reports on 9002 and some other app on 9999, all requests can be routed through a single OHS port (e.g. 8888). This gives added security since only one port would need to be open assuming a firewall was in place. This configuration is also helpful when calling one application from another. For example when calling Reports from Forms. If you use OHS, references to other WLS managed servers can be called with a relative reference rather than a fully qualified one.
Regarding whether or not SSL needs to be enabled at any particular point in the path is entirely up to you. You can enable SSL from the client all the way back to the db or any where in between. It is fairly common to see SSL between the client and OHS then no SSL to WLS. But if security is a great concern then you may want to consider SSL from front to back. However, keep in mind that SSL comes at a price. Performance will degrade slightly when SSL is enabled.
Also, OAM (Oracle Access Manager) has nothing to do with SSL. SSL refers to traffic encryption. OAM is for authentication - single sign on.
Consider reviewing the Forms Deployment Guide as well as the other Fusion Middleware documents referenced within it.
    <blockquote>http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24269_01/index.htm</blockquote>
Finally, and most important, this topic really has nothing to do with Oracle Forms. This is more about how a web server or its environment works.

If you install the WorkFlow SDK, there is a document under Documentation that explains all the settings. This is a subset:
To add the Form Server Render Form component to your workflow:
    1. Drag the Form Server Render Form component from the Components palette to your workflow.
    2. Click the General tab. In the Name box, type a name to identify this component in your workflow.
    3. (Optional) In the Description box, type the description of the component.
    4. Click the Input tab. In the Form Query box, type the Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) component (no
protocol or schema) of the form to be rendered. This URI is appended to the Content Root URI value to
form an absolute reference to the form. For example, type:
    Forms/myForm.xdp
    Forms/myForm.pdf
    5. (Optional) In the Form Preference box, type the output format of the form. The default value is AUTO.
For details about form preferences, see Selecting a form preference on page 11.
    6. (Optional) In the Options box, type the rendering options, such as locale or character set. Use an &
(ampersand) to separate the options. For example, type:
    {$ TaggedPDF=false&PDFVersion=1.6&CharSet=UTF-8 $}
For details about rendering options, see Selecting rendering options on page 12.
    7. (Optional) In the User Agent box, type the user agent that identifies the application that will be used to
display the form. The default value is Mozilla/3.x. This property specifies the HTTP header
User-Agent that provides information about the target device. A target device is a client application,
such as a web browser. This value takes precedence over what may exist in environment variables.
You can retrieve this value from the JSP/ASP environment.
    8. If you have an application server that will incorporate services from LiveCycle Forms, in the
Application Web Root box, type the servers root location. This root location is combined with the
Target URL to form an absolute URL to access application-specific web content.
    9. (Optional) In the Input XML Data box, type the location of the XML file that contains the information to
use to prepopulate the form. This data will be merged with the form during rendering. For example,
    type:
    C:\input.xml
Alternatively, you can use a form variable to retrieve data from a previous step in your workflow. Form
variables are primarily used to store the data from the forms submitted to LiveCycle Workflow Server.
The data can then be accessed at run time. For example, type the following expression:
    serialize(/process_data/formVar/form-data/data/*,false)
The serialize function takes the data from the form variable. In this example, the formVar process
variable represents the Form data type. The false parameter encodes the data in UTF-8 in the XML
code. You can optionally set this value to true if you do not want UTF-8 encoding. For more
information about the Form data type, how it works with Adobe LiveCycle Form Manager, and its use in
a workflow process, see the Configuring Human Interaction chapter in Creating Workflows.
    10. (Optional) In the TargetURL box, type the URL of the target device that will receive the posts from this
form. The target URL is inserted into the transformed output invoked during a Submit operation. For
    example, type:
    http://servername:8080/fm/processFormServlet?action=0
    11. In the Content Root URI box, type the URI of the AppStore to specify the absolute reference to a
physical repository from which the content (forms, images, or scripts) will be retrieved. For example,
    type:
    file:///c:/forms
    xappstore://hostname
This value is combined with the Form Query value to form the absolute path to the form to be
    rendered.
Note: The Content Root URI is often constant across many user applications and can be set
    administratively to a persistent value.
    12. If you are using relative paths (such as ../images/graphic.jpg), in the Base URL box, type a base
URL to identify the HTTP equivalent of the Content Root URI. This URL is required for transformations
that include HREF references to external dependencies such as images or scripts. When a dependency
path is absolute, this parameter is ignored; otherwise, the dependency path is combined with the Base
    URL. For example, type:
    http://hostname/forms
    13. If required by the server on which LiveCycle Forms is installed, in the User Name box, type a user name,
and, in the Password box, type a password. If the password is encrypted, it must be Base64 encrypted.
For more information, see Encrypting passwords on page 6.
    14. Click the Output tab. In the Output Document box, click the ellipsis button, and then select the
variable that will receive the new document. The data type for this variable must be document.
    15. In the Page Count box, click the ellipsis button, and then select the variable that will receive the page
count. The data type for this variable must be integer.
    16. In the Page Number box, click the ellipsis button, and then select the variable that will receive the
page number. The data type for this variable must be integer.
    17. Click OK.

  • How to find out Forms Server version in pl/sql procedure

How can I get the version number and/or patchset of the Forms Server through which my pl/sql procedure has been called?
    Thanks,
    Attila

You can't do this through PL/SQL. PL/SQL runs on the database server whereas Forms Server runs on the web server which are two different environments (even when they are installed on the same physical machine).
I don't know about Web Forms, but there may be a Forms built-in that can give you the information you require. You could then pass it as a parameter to the PL/SQL procedure.
Alternatively you could write a Java stored procedure to somehow pick up the information from the OS.

  • Help: FORMS SERVER cannot connect to database

    Hi:
    I've installed oracle 9i database and oracle 9ias 1.0.2.2.2a.
I configured FormsServlet and it's working very well as i suceed my test in http://machina.domain/servlet/oracle.forms.servlet.ListenerServlet!
The problem is that i cannot connect to the database and i got the error ORA-12203 TNS: Unable to connect to destination!
I've changed jserv.properties as recommended in 9ias 10222 release notes by commenting the wrapper.env=ORACLE_HOME in OJSP because it conflicts with forms server home.
I've read all about this, and i still cannot connect to the database.
I'm using a forms servlet configuration with IE JVM.
If anyone can help me... i apreciate it!

  • @oracle team; forms server help desparately needed

    hi
my company is trying to migrate client machines to linux. our setup should be the following:
database <-> forms server <-> linux client with applet viewer
    v9.2.....................v9i.................debian 3.0, j2sdk1.3
i am working on this setup for some months(!) now but i cannot get the clients to communicate stable with the rest of the setup.
problem: quite frequently the appletviewer will just hang and cause the forms server to create a
    f90webm_dump_`$PID` file
in its working directory containing the following information:
    [Mon Jan 20 21:58:29 2003 CET]::Client Status [ConnId=0, PID=10033]
    >> Network connection to client failed: timeout on connection
the people working on the client machines are quite quickly inputting data into our databases. the appletviewer will hang more often on machines < 500 MHz but it also hangs on machines with more than 1.5 GHz and 512 MB DDR
    i have literally tried everything:
    i tried these java versions:
1.1, 1.3_x, 1.4.1 from sun, blackdown, ibm and even the one that came with the forms server on the clients
i tried to tune every setting on the forms server and in the jvm.cfg. i even tried to install the forms server on the clients so that i would have one tcp connection less to definitely exclude network failure as a possible reason.
i tried to use the PREEMPT_CLOSE setting, i even patched the kernels (low latency patch), analysed megabytes of debug logging, tried to strace the appletviewer to find WHY it keeps hanging!!!!
i tried to use different linux versions for best compatibility on the clients as well as on the forms server:
    debian potato, woody, sarge, sid
    suse 7.1, 7.2, 7.3
    redhat 7.2, 7.3
i have read almost ALL documentation you could possibly read to find the reason of this problem.
    dear oracle team
PLEASE just tell me that you have even tested this product and that you know how to make it work in a stable way. we can even pay you money to give us the solution. we have been using oracle forms for 7 years now and we want to stick with it. but our clients HAVE to be able to run the linux OS.
i have posted this problem 2 or 3 times already but somehow either noone seems to read this or noone has ever tried to use a three tier setup with linux on the middle and the client tier.
as i said i have wasted MONTHS already trying to get this to work and i am out of ideas what could cause this.
    thanks for ANY reaction
    armin walland

sorry for not responding a few days, i didnt have the possibility to do so.
if you access and run the application from a Windows
client using JInitiator, what happens.i have tried that of course and it seemed to be stable. (no hang in about 2 and a half days). i dont think it is a problem on the forms server itself...maybe just some setting that doesnt cooperate well with the appletviewer.
    Since we don't
certify Forms9i with appletviewer, we didn't test it
there.thats what i thought to be honest....since you say "we"; do you work for oracle?
So first thing to do is to check if the
problem is a client issue or a server side problem.seems more like a client proble to me though....somehow it looks like some deadlock or race condition, but im not a programmer so this could be a completely wrong impression.
If youi can, can you try a test on a Windows client?as i said b4, we tried that and it seemed to work finely but it was to test the server and ensure it isnt a complete misconfiguration issue :)

  • FORMS SERVER help ASAP

I know this is era of 9iAS.But one of our clients has Forms 6i and Forms server and its not cost effective for them to buy high-end server for implementing 9iAS.So is it alright to implement such an architecture with Oracle 8i as back-end.Is there any issue of Oracle support expiration for Forms Server.Since I have migrated client server architecture based forms and reports to 9iAS, I am not too sure of how to do the same without 9iAS. Is web-enabling of forms in 9iAS same as with Forms server. Please help , as we have to provide solution feasibilty report to our clients.
    Thanks in advance,

I don't know anything about suport, but,I can tell you that is easy to install a forms/reports server after you have a apache, iis or some other web listener installed on your server...

  • Form Server Connection pooling - Urgent

how does form server maintains connection pooling. I have defined a single db user through which form server establishes connections with the db, and created application users at application level. The information I like to know if form server maintains certain connection pooling and allow users to get connected if user limit exceeds but responed to them with delay. if it does maintains connection pooling then please elaborate how.???

Forms doesn't do connection pooling -- each user requires a separate database connection.
    > Allowing remote Internet user connect directly to the
database appears to pose a serious security/denial-of-
    service risk.
So this is one of the good reasons to move the web Forms architecture.
    > It doesn't seem appropriate to ask unaffiliated remote
users to know about, let alone remember database
credentials for an external database, just to enable
them to use a simple web-enabled form. Embedding the
database credentials into the form appears to pose a
    more obvious security risk.
With Forms on the web, you can hide the username/password/database details from the user. That information can be stored centrally -- either with Forms itself, or with an LDAP server. The end user doesn't have to know any of the details.
We have customers running their Forms applications on the internet, and the users have no idea of the connection details to the database.
For extra security, you can use SSL. Forms on the web, though, by default uses 40 bit encryption.
Why then does Oracle Forms use this client-server
architecture? Are there any plans to migrate away from,
or provide an alternative to, this architecture in
    the near future?
We do have an architecture to resolve these issues. It's called the Forms Listener Servlet Architecture and it's been available for over 2 years.
If you go to the Forms area on OTN, you can read all about it:

  • Form Server 5.1

I have met a problem while using the Form Server SNMP Monitor software, this tool need a community string while monitoring the Form Server SNMP,but I don't know where to find the community string. Is there anyone can help?
The software's name is SolarWinds Engineer's Toolset,is there anyone knows how to use it?Or recommend other SNMP monitor tools to me?

You can't decrypt an SSHA encoded string. However, you could beat on it with a crack program. Chances are, it'll take about ten minutes. That's why it's important to have appropriate ACIs for your password attributes.

  • Why can i install forms server properly in windows xp?

I guess i haven't installed FORMS SERVER properly, because in my \developer\bin\ i cant find "ifsrv60.exe"
the installation prompts me that if i have OEM (oracle enterprise manager) (which i think is ORACLE 9.2 ENTERPRISE EDITION) i should select NO, to avoid creating that service... so i always choose "NO".
I've tried choosing "YES" twice, even in SAFE MODE, and it crashes, saying something about "ifsrv60.exe -install"...and something about a "spawn" or something.
i wanna test if all works but without my "forms server" i guess i cant test it right? what should i do?
also, when installing i chose "server installation", then "web deployment" and then "single computer".
    help me out

    Hi
There is a special version for windows XP i dont remember the exact number right now but you have to install from that specific cd and plus you need to install patches 13.
If i understand you correctly, you are not able to connect to database? if so, you need to configure the tnsnames.ora file. you can use the Net8 easy config from start/programs/$oraclehome$.
or you can manually set it from Oraclehome$\net80\admin\tnsnames.ora
    set it as:
    <service name> =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = <machine name)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = <SID>))
I suggest you de-install everything you have installed previously, and start fresh.
    Hope this helps
    Regards
    Tony
