About microsoft softwre license for my small business

Hi,
I am a startup for e learning. I want to teach microsoft based technologies through my site, for this I want to know the licensing terms that I should abide by, so that I won't get any suprises in the furture.
Technologies that we are planning are,
.Net technology Dev, MS Sharepoint, MS SQL Dev & DBA, MSBI, Microsoft Azure & MS Office etc.
i have tried reaching out the MS sales person, but its a bit different from regular.
Note: I am not going to distribute the software for students or professionals as part of the training. Its only, if we use the above softwares for training.

Hi codered4,
I would move the question to Off-topic since this forum is only for Windows Store App development, to know the licensing stuff for your listed technology, you should ask in the corresponding forum.
For instance MS SharePoint at
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/home?category=sharepoint
Thanks for your understanding.

  • Backup strategies for a small business?  Iomega Rev 70GB?

    hello....
Does anyone have any suggestions for a good backup solution for a small business? Our server holds about 30 GB of information, and we have been using those 8 GB DDS data cartridges, but so many tapes are required and it is not very efficient.
After a little bit of research I found the Iomega Rev 70 GB, and I was wondering if anyone has an opinion on this hardware. I want to be able to have a removable disk, so that I can always store one disk off-site. I don't think I should purchase an external harddrive, because wouldn't it get damaged moving around all the time? The Rev disk is so small, we could fit it in our purse at the end of the day. I like that. It's like a big Zip disk.
My big fear is that this technology will become obsolete in a few years.....
    Any opinions? Alternative ideas?
    thanks!

We use tape still... it's the most reliable and portable way. As for legacy. The nice thing about using tape is that newer tape drives like the 160-320 GB can read older tapes and in theory when it gets up to Terrabyte tape drives it will read the legacy tapes. I used to be a hug fan of Iomega, but the proprietary nature of all their products frustrated me every new generation has had something different. I been using Iomega from the original 10" bernoulli disks to the 5.25" to the zip, to the Jazz and then gave up on them at that point. I was tired of getting a new format every-time.
A removable hard drive is something to consider, but keep in mind transporting such things around can shorten the life of such devices.
Tape truly is the most reliable way to back-up networks.
Granted the price for a tape drive is up there, your second choice might be to go with a portable HD that has decent shock protection.

  • Can anyone out there recommend a program for invoices, etc for a small business?

    Hi,
I am a small business owner, and used in the past PC programs. I am about to start a new business, but I now have an iMac (intel) and I am finding it very hard to find a decent program for invoicing, tax, etc for a small business.
I am based in UK so I need something which I can use here.
Can anyone , preferably a small business owner or someone who uses such a program, please recommend a good one??
    Thanks
    Paul

There are countless invoicing apps,I'd recommend opening the Mac App Store and do a search for Invoicing to see at least 7 or 8.

  • Can i purchase physical CDs for Adobe CC or is it just download? i want to buy 3 licenses for my small team

Can i purchase physical CDs for Adobe CC or is it just download? i want to buy 3 licenses for my small team and prefer to have physical copies in my office. I hope someone will be able to shed some light on this.

    Hi hassan elbanna,
Unfortunately we do not sell DVD for CC. Internet connectivity is required for the first time you download/install and license the software.
If the machines are in the connected to a slow network then in this scenario you may download the application from:Download New Adobe CC Trials: Direct Links (no Assistant/Manager) | ProDesignTools,
copy it on a DVD and install on rest of the machine.
Note: Please remember that internet connection is till required to activate the subscription.
While downloading from the link provided please do not forget to follow the very important instructions provided.

  • Mail for Exchange / Small Business Server

It appears that Nokia has overlooked a part of the market with its Mail for Exchange application. Apparently, M4E has difficulty communicating with Exchange if it is part of Small Business Server and a self signed certificate is used.
It would be a good idea if someone at Nokia reads this and cares to put it on a list of 'things we could do - to keep customers happy". Small Business Sever is Microsoft's Server product for up to 75 clients. That is a nice world wide market of small businesses that are known to adept quickly, unlike larger organizations.
This lack of "sweating the details" has caused me personally probably 20-30 hours, and judging from the the number of entries other people have also wasted lots of time.
In addition to the time wasted, we are now forced to purchased a commercial server certificate.
More details on the M4E/SBS issue can be found here: http://blogs.technet.com/sbs/archive/2006/12/07/using-a-nokia-device-to-sync-with-small-business-ser...

  • Is iWeb + MobileMe hosting reliable enough for a small business?

I have a small business and am trying to get a website up. It will be less than 10 pages, mostly static informational stuff that will almost never change. I will have a few pictures and maybe about 10 documents that clients can download. I won't be doing any e-commerce, no shopping cart, etc...
I'd like to use iWeb '09 to create it and then just host it on my MobileMe account since that would obviously be the cheapest solution. But I didn't know if that was going to be as reliable as using a hosting service like GoDaddy or AT&T's service (that's who my business DSL is with). Those 2 are only about $15/month for everything (domain, hosting, etc...)
My other question, more related to iWeb, is whether GoDaddy's WebSite Tonight program was any easier to use than iWeb. I'm a complete novice to web page building. I've seen some really nice sites people have posted here that they created with iWeb, but I'm wondering how long it would take me to learn to do something that nice.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Judging by what most people complain about, MobileMe's reliability (uptime) appears to be satisfactory — there are more complaints of MobileMe being slow, but perhaps with only a few pages and pictures your clients won't notice.
If being found by Google is important to you, bear in mind that +"iWeb websites are not made to be search engine friendly."+ ...Read more here:

iWeb is designed for personal sites and so Apple apparently assumes you'll simply pass your site's URL to friends & family. Web-design apps for business sites tend to integrate search engine optimization — Sandvox Pro is an example:

  • OS X Server & creating a website for a small business.

I am a small business owner with limited computer skills. I would like to know if downloading the OS X Server App from the App Store will enable me to host my own website using iWeb to create it? Building the website seems professional and easy enough using iWeb but I lack the knowledge to publish it having never done it before. My business has a website already which is hosted through the website designer but I like the flexibility of updating it myself. How tricky is it to do? Are there any guides, tips, suggestions or pitfalls I should be aware of?

This is centrally a question of where you want to spend your time.
Are you interested in learning about DNS and IP and networking and troubleshooting and security and maybe also DMZs and VPNs?   About keeping the riffraff off your server?   Basically, do you want to be IT here?  If you do, then OS X Server does quite well, and it's not particularly difficult to deal with — this difficulty factor as servers go, that is.  Servers are inherently more involved and more complex than clients.
If you'd rather not be IT here, then either using a tool like Sandvox or hosting your site via a content management system would be preferable; there are shared hosting services around which offer WordPress or Drupal or other content-management system hosting — I'd tend to go with a CMS and not iWeb, but there are various hosting services where you can upload your website.  They will typically deal with web server and the mail server and DNS and backups and the rest for you.  These hosted services are inexpensive, too.  I presently use MacHighway for some hosting (disclaimer: no financial connections, except as a customer).
If you want to split the difference here between running your own and outsourcing this, then you might want to enlist some help to get things set up and running, and to help you learn where the problem areas are, and that you can call when something goes sideways.  Or you can work with your web designer to migrate into a content management system (if that's not what you're using already), and where the web designer can deal with various parts of the presentation and the content and related, and you can also access and update content via the web interface.   If you want to experiment with a CMS, WordPress and Drupal offer hosting (via WordPress.Com and Drupal.Com), as do other entities.
Linc Davis is quite correct, too: the Internet can be unforgiving of mistakes with servers.  This can be why you might want to invest in a good firewall with a DMZ and a dedicated server, for instance.  Should the riffraff breach the web server, they're hopefully still contained by the DMZ and thus don't have the run of your business network.

  • Can i use iCloud for my small business

I have a small business with 50 employees and want to know if iCloud could be used as an alternative to 365?

iCloud is designed for single person use, and isn't intended for business use. Some business do use it, but there is limited support in the event of problems. If you were thinking of using the @icloud.com email service I would advise against it - apart from lack of support it shows that you are using a free service which doesn't give a good impression. You would be better off with an email service tailored to business users, with proper support and a guaranteed uptime, and getting your own domain for the address,
As to the syncing and other facilities provided by iCloud, though a small number of people might be able to use them I'm not sure that it would cope with 50. I've an idea there is a limit to the number of devices. iCloud drive, due in the autumn with Yosemite and iOS8, may or may not handle this  - we don't know yet; but I still think that for any size of business iCloud is a dubious proposition.

  • In need of a new laptop for a small business

We have a small business that runs quickbooks on a desktop we are looking for a laptop that will be able to run quickbooks and go online. But I have no idea what to look at. I do not want all the bells and whistles. Does anyone have an idea of what I would need?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

For what you need you do not need anything powerful.
how portable do you need it to be?
Perhaps base what you purchase based on screen size as a good place to start.
Most of your laptops are going to have wifi and ethernet and the ability to plug in a second monitor.
I would suggest staying away from the Netbooks.  You don't need anything robust but they are really more designed more for internet and email.  I would also suggest staying away from most tablets.   Many of them run Android and would not work in the first place, others have a scaled back version of windows that is not cabalble of runnig all software.
Check with quickbooks to see if it will work on Windows 8.  Getting hard to find any machine that is not Windows 8.  you may have to upgrade quickbooks to a newer version.
This one is a good price and should suffice your needs.

ever year (2012, 2008, Etc.) without having problems with the domain controller, firewall, sharing the SQL to network computer and the Windows Server year and versión we need? Thank!

    Hi,
Please refer to following article and check the operating system requirements for SQL Server 2008.
    Hardware and Software Requirements
    for Installing SQL Server 2008
Based on your description, I understand that you want to install the SQL Server on a DC.
For security reasons, it is recommended that you do not install the SQL Server on a domain controller. So, it would be better if you put the SQL server on a second server or a virtualized server rather than on the SBS itself.
You may encounter problems when installing SQL Server on

  • Quicken alternative for a Small Business

    Hello,
I've been using Quicken Small and Business for years to run a small business. It works well and I essentially use it post transactions, write and print checks, and make end of year reports for my accountant. (profit and loss, and a couple of others)
The transfer from Windows Quicken to the Mac version is not possible. There are too many caveats and it just won't work for me. I exported my file to a .qif file and was able to import it to a program called "Moneydance", which I am trying now. It seems good and does most of what I want it to, though I was wondering if there are some more powerful programs or something else "better" that I can use for my needs. Are there any recommendations for non-online (like mint.com) programs I can use to run my small business? Thanks!

Moneydance is very good, surely good enough for what you need. IMO it's the best of the Quicken alternatives. I used it for personal finances for a number of years. It's multicurrency aware, unlike the mac version of Quicken, which is why I chose Moneydance.
That said, I'm currently using Quicken 2008 for Windows on a Virtual Windows XP PC running under Parallels. I like Quicken, more customisable, better reports, and being able to run the windows version on my mac means I can now have multiple currencies.
If you go the Moneydance route (and there's no reason why you should not) bear in mind that it's far more difficult to export your data back to Quicken than it is to import it in the first place. I managed this, but had to jump through many, many hoops.
Quickbooks is your other option. More expensive, but very powerful.

  • Plug and Play for Cisco Small Business 300 Series Managed Switch

    Good day
what are the Auto-Install options available for the Cisco Small Business 300 Series Managed Switch ?
It would appear there are none, the operating system is not the standard IOS I'm used to.
Would like to use it with Cisco Prime Infrastructure's PnP Gateway capability.
    Regards
    Pierre

Prime Infrastructure uses and assumes a CNS (Cisco Network Services) agent on the other side when enabling "plug & play". 300/500 Series do not run IOS and does not include a CNS agent, but there is a way to enable auto-configuration. The switches support DHCP Autoconfiguration (using DHCP options 66, 67, and others) whereby they automatically download their config from a TFTP server at boot time. This allows an administrator to put the configs for all the switches on a TFTP server and simply boot a factory-defaulted switch in order to get its config.
Attached is a document showing how this is done.
Hope the information would be of assistance.

  • I'm trying to post ads on ksl for my small business through safari.

Hey, I'm a small business owner that regularly sells product on ksl. I am trying to figure out how to build a script that will post ads for me since I sell the same products each time they come in. Going through the process over and over gets really repetitive and I could be investing this time on other things. Any help would be appreciated. I am a novice with applescript code and need any help I can get.

sorry, ksl.com. It's a local website where you can post ads for product that you are selling or buying. I would be posting in the classified section of the webpage. So I would need a code that would go to the "Place and Ad" tab, change the catagory drop down menu, then the sub catagory drop down menu, go to next screen and fill out text boxes, go to next screen and confirm, go to next screen and add a photo, go to next screen and confirm, then preferably loop the whole code.
