About Passivation

Hi there,
Consider a STATEFUL SESSION bean. If the client is inactive for the specified "time-out" time, the STATEFUL SESSION bean is evicted from the memory. My Question is, before the STATEFUL SESSION bean gets evicted from te memory, I would like to store the object to a secondary storage. At which method/call back method can I implement this serialization?
The question is wrt EJB 2.0 and I am using Weblogic 6.0
Thanks
JC

ejbPassivate is called just before your bean instance is serialized to memory...so if the method is called then it means that the ejb container itself is doing the job and you dont need to provide any implementation for the same.

  • About passive and active

please tell me about passive mode and active mode of an adapter?

    Hi
The definition of the adapter metadata should contain a global attribute Adapter Status, which activates or deactivates processing of the specific communication channel.
The Active / Inactive status of adapter indicates the status of message exchange.
You could either change this status from communication channel in ID or by RWB (Runtime workbench)
    Refer below link for it
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/44/19261d528e1a77e10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm

    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/9b/f12541c3d3f323e10000000a155106/frameset.htm
All adapters displayed have a red, yellow, green or grey status. The basic status of non-registered adapters is grey. Adapters that can only be monitored with the communication channel monitor also have a grey status.
The following list shows the possible statuses listed in their hierarchical order from top to bottom.
    The following statuses are possible:
    ●      Green (): Channel is started and functioning without errors.
    ●      Red (): Channel is started but errors have occurred.
    ●      Yellow (): Channel is started, but inactive.
    ●      Gray (): Channel is stopped
    ●      Not available (n/a): Channel is not registered; no information available.
Channels with a yellow status () are started, but are inactive on all cluster nodes of a server cluster. This means that a channel is not processing any messages, even though it is started.
A channel has this status in the following cases:
    ■       The channel is configured as inactive in the PCK (it can also only be reactivated in the PCK).
    ■       The channel is set to inactive by the respective adapter (some adapters can do this and can also change this status if necessary).

  • About passive ftp mode?

In proxies passive ftp mode is checked and in the box this domain*.local, 169.254/16 is always visible.  My internet is dongle wifi - Wimax.  Can I uncheck this box without it affecting my wifi connection.
Something very strange is happening when I connect via wi fi to my wimax.  My airport menu show I am connected to uroad458930 which is my correct network address but there is also another network showing uroad458931.  This address is only visible when I connect to my Wimax.  Both addresses disappear from the menu when I switch off the wimax dongle and both appear when I switch it on.

    Thank you for your answer.
Yes, according to those slides it looks like PASV mode is tried first...
But why do I get the following exception?
sun.net.ftp.FtpProtocolException: PORT :500 Illegal PORT command, EPSV ALL in effect

If I write the FTP URL that I use in my Java code in my browser's address bar, the file is regularly downloaded.
Any help / suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

  • Are private variables of VO/AM/...also passivated?

    Hi,
In my JClient application in order to avoid the transaction becomming "dirty" when setting transient attributes => display field, I did the following:
    Transient attribute: AttrTransient
Added a private variable Number attrTransient
    public Number getAttrTransient()
    // return (Number)getAttributeInternal(ATTRTRANSIENT);
// here I call my calculation method
    return this.attrTransient;
    public void setAttrTransient(Number value)
    // setAttributeInternal(ATTRTRANSIENT, value);
    this.attrTransient = value;
In my JClient environment it works ok.
    Question:
In a STRUTS-ADF where the connection management is different, will my variable attrTransient be part of the passivation mechanism?
In other words will the user get the value of attrTransient when using the same ViewObject instance?
If yes, is this also true for added variables to application modules or Entities?
    Thanks
    Fred

    Hi guys,
Thanks for your help. I really was drowning in a glass of water. Although now I am looking forward to learn and understand all about passivation, the issue was not related with that.
The logic implemented checks certain characteristics for the logged in user. With this particular user the logic applied was different in term that, programatically, there was being applied a ViewCriteria. After researching and consulting I realized that when a VC is applied programatically , all the others view criteria (already applied for that VO in the AM) are lost. Hence, no matter that I was executing with all the params, at the end, the querybuilder would just bind the variables for the VC assigned to the VO. In my case, just the one I've applied programatically.

  • Passivation in entity bean

    statement
In an entity bean, passivation includes releasing resources as well as pushing back the data it is
holding to the underlying database prior to the passivation process.
Hi, when i read stateful session bean the author mentioned about passivation because the stateful bean must have to store the conversational states of many clients. so the bean pushes the data to the secondary stoarge (disk) for future use, if at some time any client needs them the bean could use those states.... thats passivation.
but in Entity bean, i see author also talking about passivation. though author did not explain much. the entity bean is already using a permanent storage . why they need any secondary storage which is meant for passivation ?
because here activation means grabbing data from underlying DB. How does passivation helps here ?

Just a guess - I have no idea about EJBs:
Could it be that passivaion in this case simply means "performing the stuff that's needed for an entity bean to be persistent"? An entity bean IIRC represents a persistent set of data, which means that at one point in time, the data must be stored (written to DB) to be accessible later. That'd mean "passivation" is simply a name for an entity bean's normal behavior.

  • BizTalk Enterprise Passive Cluster Node Licensing Question

Can anyone confirm if you need to license a passive BizTalk Enterprise cluster node if all BizTalk components are not running? If so is there an official reference I can refer to? The PUR has a section on Running Instances that states components must be
in memory to require a license, but no BizTalk components would be in memory if all services are stopped. All references I have read about passive nodes state they must be licensed though.
    Nikolai Blackie Adaptiv Integration

The reason I am asking this question is there is a site with a small cluster with all hosts and SSO under cluster management, on the effectively passive node there are no actually running instance of any BizTalk components. Not strictly HA, but certainly
quicker than DR. Personally I would have just used VM failover but that design decision was made a long time ago.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa578057.aspx
This is a relatively grey area in terms of licensing the configuration and depending on how you interpret PUR non licensable passive nodes appear to valid under the documented terms.
It would just be great if there was something somewhere that said outright all BizTalk servers in a cluster must have an assigned server license, or cluster nodes with no running components are not licensable =)

  • Are passive 3D TVs better? Does anyone here own a LG passive 3D TV?

So I still havent' bought my 3D TV.. but I decided to pay a little bit more and get a new one just to be safe.
But I still can't decide which one to buy. I've been reading a lot of forums and reviews...
It seems like a lot of people are shifting towards passive 3D TVs and specifically LG 3D TV because they ranked #1 on consumer report.
I also read on cnet an article about passive 3D TVs being better than active 3D TVs in both comfort and image quality...
It said that passive 3D TVs have brighter images, sharper images, less flickers, more depth, etc and said that LG Cinema 3Ds have the least flickers and crosstalks.
But there are still a couple people on forums who say active 3D TVs are better so I really can't decide which one is better.
Does anyone own a LG passive 3D TV? Can you tell me what the pros and cons are?
    Thanks
    Marnie

Basically, there is no way to do 3D without giving each eye only half of what the TV can display.
Active shutter-glasses based 3D TVs do this by splitting time in half - each eye gets half the time.  In the past this caused flicker because it halved refresh rate from 60 Hz to 30 Hz.  Fortunately, as LCD technology has improved, it has been easier and easier to crank up the refresh rate of TVs - with 120 Hz refresh rates readily available, halving this only dropped you to 60 Hz.
Passive glassis do it by splitting space in half - each eye sees half of the image elements of the screen.
It turns out it's a LOT easier to double refresh rate than it is to double resolution.
Note:  Projection systems are a bit different, these can achieve passive 3D without any compromise, as in these systems, you can use two separate projectors, each with a polarizing filter.  The two full-resolution images are overlaid together on the screen, right on top of each other.  This is not possible with any direct-view approach.  I think some projector systems behave similar to shutter-glasses, except with a switchable polarizer on the projector - e.g. the "shuttering" is done in the projector.  It's a lot easier to have a small switchable polarizer in the optical path of a projector than one which covers the entire screen of a TV.

  • Mac mini 1.66 and pro-tools mbox 2?

    i hope someone can help!
i just got the mac mini 1.66 and Mbox 2..and the pro-tools software installed flawlessly!
(pro-tools 6.8.1)but when i went 2 open the app up, it said no hardware was located .....but i had my m box plugged in..... when i got 2 my hardware overview....and checked what is plugged into my usb ports it says that the mbox is plugged in,but for some reason it is not turning on.
i read from a google search something about passive USB ports not working with the mbox..
    but IDK...
i'm old school...i'm used 2 good ol analog and somewhat analog/digital...i used 2 record on a alesis ADAT machine....but i lost my studio 2 a flood......and i heard all the rave about Pro-tools....so i said what the heck!
but me and computers dont mesh...
    please help
    thanks very much in advance..

    ABZ The beast

    Hi AbzZilla,
I was looking up this post and found you've a similar problem...
I was having the non-responsiveness with the above configurations in 'LE 7.4 & 7.4.2c (Mac-only), but I have now installed Pro Tools LE 8.
Unfortunately I still can't get the MBOX2 to work with the Mac mini 2, but the MBOX2 USB status alights now [i.e. it's very bright and now works] on the MBP 17" ...all with Mac OS X 10.5.6! In all previous Pro Tools versions it confirms support for Pro Tools and the MBox, with the Mac mini:
    http://archive.digidesign.com/compato/osx/os.cfm
So I too am 'stumped' as this is the brand new computer that I wanted the software to be operable on. I've swapped the USB cables (to check if it was a failed cable) and it looks like either a firmware clash or a USB-port power issue? I've also tried non-powered USB hubs... as it could be the later issue? So when I find my powered USB hub I'll let you know, ...if there's a change?
Until then... I Iook forward to further posts in this thread!
    Thanks for kicking-off the discussion.

  • Question about CPU usage for video playback

I've asked a related question already on the Safari forum, but would like some clarification, please.
The speed of this iMac is 400 MHZ and whenever I go to YouTube or almost any other site that requires video I see that the CPU usage can peak way up at 80% or more. I have Flash 9 installed which has a minimum of 500 MHZ, so I get pretty choppy video, but that's not the issue here. I can live with that. I keep any other applications closed. I'm often running a small fan over the top of the iMac to help vent the buildup of heat. I can monitor the temperature at the Hard Drive and I suppose that gives me an idea, of sorts, about general temperature conditions inside.
The answer I got was that this kind of CPU usage could be detrimental to the processor as it builds up excessive heat and to keep this kind of video to a minimum.
My question is can anyone roughly suggest what a maximum time on YouTube, for example, would be, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, is 10 minutes too long? I have plenty of RAM at 768. Some guidelines?
    Thanks.

    Hey WZZZ,
Thanks for the star and kind words.
I'm the de facto Mac guy at my kids' school and we have around 25 iMac Slot Loaders working there. You can imagine they get abused quite a bit. There are 10 running Garage Band in the Music Department. That puts a tremendous strain on the CPU and I'm actually surprised that they run it so well. My son had a 600 iMac running GarageBand, he was complaining that it was getting jumpy and when I looked at it he was running 10 unlocked tracks simultaneously! So now he has an eMac G4 800 and that of course runs a lot better.
So to sum up, with all the abuse of those machines in terms of the CPUs the problems I have with them have nothing to do with that. The problems have more to do with parts of the OS that they toss, headphone jacks abused, CDs jammed in the slots, and the like.
A couple of other related things. I've got Hardware Monitor, demo, installed and I think it reported it could only find the hard drive sensor, if I'm not mistaken - nothing else on this Mac with a sensor. Is that right?
I see references to CPU sensors on 400 iMacs but on the 400 I have here for repair Temperature Monitor reports no sensors. Perhaps there were different versions of the 400.
But very good to hear that the fan is a good idea for CRT related things. Should I keep the fan running-mostly for that hard core CRT stuff- even if the computer is sleeping and the room temp. is only around 62-64 F.? (We need to put on warm clothes to sit in front of this thing now, but worth it to keep this old machine happy).
On the one I did the fan pushed the airflow in the direction of the passive flow of the iMac - in at the bottom and out the grill by the handle.
One more question, more out of curiosity than anything else: If I move this small clip-on fan close to the case - right now it's about 3 feet away and the image is stable - the screen begins to flicker and flutter quite a lot. My theory is that that's happening not necessarily because of electro-magnetic interference from the fan motor, but rather, because the back of the tube is getting cooled unevenly. What do you think?
Well the classic failures that I see in the iMac are in this order:
    1) Dielectric breakdown of the flyback transformers internal insulation. This is heat/age related and a common problem with CRTs in general.
    2) Breakdown of high voltage electolytic capacitors and regular high voltage capacitors on the neck board and PAV supply.
    3) Solder problems with the flyback itself. This is diagnosed by the upside down boot technique.
I used to repair these problems but now it's easier for me to swap the Firewire boards into working 350s. I've got 12 of those in the basement currently.

  • OA Passivation error while trying to extend a standard Controller.

    Hi,
I am trying to generate an XML report from standard OAF page button. For this, I have extended the standard controller class of the page and added my custom code to launch a custom AM. This AM has the custom VO and should print the output on a XML template.

  • EBS 12.1.3: a few questions about cloning

    Hi,
We have EBS 12.1.3 on AIX 7.1.
A few questions about cloning from shared application tier environment to non-shared application tier environment. We have been following "Cloning Oracle Applications Release 12 with Rapid Clone [ID 406982.1]"
    Source environment (shared app tier):
    - Two active application nodes and LB
    - One active database and one passive database setup with Oracle Data Guard.
    - SSL termination at the load balancer
    - PCP implemented
    Target environment (non-shared app tier):
    - One active application node
    - One active database node
    - No SSL
    - No PCP
After the cloning was completed we noticed the following problems in the target system:
    1) Home page cannot be accessed as application tier $CONTEXT_FILE still contains "https" and ssl termination settings.
    Workaround:
Modify (with text editor) Application Tier $CONTEXT_FILE as follows.
    <webentryurlprotocol oa_var="s_webentryurlprotocol" customized="yes">http</webentryurlprotocol>
    <sslterminator oa_var="s_enable_sslterminator">#</sslterminator>
    <login_page oa_var="s_login_page" customized="yes">http://myhost.mydomain.com:8000/OA_HTML/AppsLogin</login_page>
    <externURL oa_var="s_external_url" customized="yes">http://myhost.mydomain.com:8000</externURL>
Run AutoConfig and start application tier.
Is there a better and supported solution for this?
    2) Concurrent managers do not work correctly as they have still old node names (used in PCP in the source system). Workaround used:
    1. Logon to EBS web GUI and remove all nodes from all concurrent managers.
    2. Shutdown application tier. Verify that all concurrent managers have been shutdown. If not, kill the processes manually
    3. As apps user run cmclean.sql
    4. Restart application tier
Is there a better solution for this?
    3) Database changes from ARCHIVELOG mode to nonarchivelog mode in the target system. Is there anyway to prevent this?
    4) Also, we would like to perform a full clone (app + db tiers) from production without shutting down the application. Is this possible? What would be the best documents to describe this? In Production, we have Oracle Data Guard setup with physical standby as per "Oracle Tech Note: Business Continuity for Oracle E-Business Release 12 Using Oracle 11g Physical Standby Database [ID 1070033.1]". This can be used when performing a hot clone for the database, right? What about the application tier? Steps described in 406982.1 include running AutoConfig in which application tier should be down. Does the application need to be down when running "Maintain Snapshot Information"?
    5) One final question (not related to cloning). Oracle Enterprise Manager console webUI has recently stopped working in IE8. E.g. https://myhost.mydomain.com:5501/em gives "Page cannot be displayed". This was working correctly last week. In Firefox, the same link is working fine. Any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks for your answers in advance.
    BR,
    TH

    1) Home page cannot be accessed as application tier $CONTEXT_FILE still contains "https" and ssl termination settings.

Is there a better and supported solution for this? No, you need to edit the context file manually and run AutoConfig.
    2) Concurrent managers do not work correctly as they have still old node names (used in PCP in the source system). Workaround used:
    1. Logon to EBS web GUI and remove all nodes from all concurrent managers.
    2. Shutdown application tier. Verify that all concurrent managers have been shutdown. If not, kill the processes manually
    3. As apps user run cmclean.sql
    4. Restart application tier
Is there a better solution for this? You are following the best approach. You could update the node details from the backend if you want.
    3) Database changes from ARCHIVELOG mode to nonarchivelog mode in the target system. Is there anyway to prevent this?By default, Rapid Clone will create the target database in noarchivelog mode.
Correct.
What about the application tier? Steps described in 406982.1 include running AutoConfig in which application tier should be down. Does the application need to be down when running "Maintain Snapshot Information"?You can copy the application tier node files while the application is up. And, you do not need to shutdown the application to run "Maintain Snapshot Information".
If it is working from one browser, then it should not be an EM issue. Have you tried from a different client and see if this works? Have you changed any setting in your IE browser? Please make sure you add the EM URL to the trusted sites list.
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • Can you Setup a Active Passive DFS namespace in the same site

    Hi,
I would like to use DFS for profile replication. I know MS doesn't recommend it, but was wondering if you could setup DFS namespace in an Active/ passive contests in the same AD site. I think or what I can understand of DFS is that if the Fileserver is in
the same site it would select it randomly and you cant specify which server is the primary.
Basically what I want is to have users only access File server 1, but if this file server 1 goes down to be redirected to file server 2.
    Thanks,
    Shaun

You could have a read-only Replica but that really doesn't help you in terms of the automatic redirection thing.  You could also set up a 2-node replication group and disable the referral for the folder(s) on one node like below:
However the "failover" would be manually Enabling, which I doubt fits the bill.
Otherwise, I'm not aware of any configuration of DFSR that allows you to do what you're talking about (maybe someone else will correct me.)  HOWEVER, I suspect a design that fits your use case may be to create a DFS namespace that runs
on a file server cluster.  That way if Node1 goes down, the cluster fails over,  and the data continues to be available on Node2 when accessed via DFS.
If interested, there are a couple ways to approach DFS in combination with a cluster.
Configuration1:  The cluster is configured to host the namespace as well as the folder targets (where the actual data is).  CAVEAT - The cluster can only be configured as a standalone cluster.
Configuration2:  Create a domain DFS namespace that resides on other servers.
\\domain\DFSRoot for example.  Then point each of the leaves/folder targets to clustered shares. So you'd create a subfolder called "Profiles" that points to the clustered share that houses the profiles.
Just an idea.  Hope this helps.

  • How to : Active/Passive and Active/Active Enterprise manager R3 (10.2.0.3)

Soon I will implement the above named version of EMR3 on a AIX 5.3.3 platform. I have a couple of questions about active/passive and active/active implementations. These are the questions I have:
    Basic install:
Implementing 10.2.0.2 and upgrading to 10.2.0.3 works fine on host 1234 (already done that).
Does anyone have experience with an implementation on host 1234', in other words, a virtual host (different IP-numbers on the same ethernet adapter)?
    Active/passive
Lets assume that the implementation on server 1234' works fine, how can I realise a cold failover situation? On AIX you can move/transport the volume group to the failover server, activate the volume group, mount your filesystems and the application is running again. This is the theory but ....
    Active/Active
If this 'basic' install is done, can someone briefly tell me how to migrate the OMS repository to a RAC implementation? Is this possible or do I need to setup the repository for the OMS at the start of the implementation. Has anyone experience with using virtual hostnames, RAC and EMR3.
Can anyone tell me where I can find some good documentation instead of reading all these thousands of pages of Oracle's guides.
    Help would be appreciated.

  • Passivation of stateless session bean

For a stateful session bean, we mention the system directory in the server xml where Server stores the state of passivated stateful session bean instances.
Please can any one tell, if more than one beans are to be passivated how does it happen for one server instance?

The exact manner in which stateful session beans are passivated is considered an implementation detail. It is completely transparent to the developer.
Some implementations use a file-system as a stateful session bean store, while others use a database or memory replication.
If you're asking about specific configuration details I recommend consulting your vendor's documentation.
