About the 3rd point of my question

Yesterday I posted my question here. And one said that the 3rd point of my question is not so clear. I am sorry. And I repeated it here.
In many cases it is interesting to know where a particular point in the image space moves in the course of time series. So, what I would like to do is:
The images are arraged in a virtual space, where the z direction is the time axis. one can examine the whole image series by sliding the viewing slice up and down the z direction ( this is what I mean last time in the 3rd point.) :)
Can I realize this function using JAVA 3D?
Many thanks.
tony

So you have a whole series of images, and you'd like to stack them ontop of each other to represent the image changing over time? Shouldn't be too difficult, you'd just use something like a mouse behaviour to zoom the view via the mouse. And if you wanted to get a smoother transition you could alter the images transparency depending on the position of the camera.

  • About the hosts file (syntax/usage question)

    Hi,
    I am trying to block a handful of different websites that I do not want my daughter to use right now.  I would like to use the hosts file to do this.  Although I have basic familiarity with the hosts file and editing it, I am not completely certain as to how it works and how DNS works.  If I want to, for example, block "yahoo.com" and all of its subdomains, would the following be an acceptable/valid entry?
    127.0.0.1 *.yahoo.com
    By not listing the subdomains of "yahoo.com", would that make it any liklier for those webpages to get through?  If I were to also list out all of the "yahoo.com" subdomains that I have knowledge of along with the previous entry, would that cause any problems?
    And the second part of my question is: Is the hosts file ever not top priority in lookup (on OS X 10.6.8, if it matters); and if so, is there a good way to make it always first?
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thank you,
    Michael

    Use parental controls, maybe Dnsmasq, or a nanny-capable firewall-gateway-router box that's been configured on the edge of your network.
    The /etc/hosts file also has specific sequence to get it reloaded; that file is read once and subsequenty cached.  IIRC, you need to either /sudo dscacheutil -flushcache/ or /sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder/ the DNS resolver.
    If your child is technically inclined, or knows how to do basic internet research, or has discussions with the more nerd-ish among her peers, your child can learn how to bypass /etc/hosts and Dnsmasq using her own DNS translations, or with her own DNS services.  That possibility would point toward either parental controls (easy), or the firewall-gateway-router box (added cost, but can block some or all systems on your local network).
    Here's how easy it is to bypass the /etc/hosts block; launch Terminal.app and issue the equivalent of:
    dig +short @8.8.8.8 host.example.com
    for the host.example.com host that you're (she's) interested in.  (There are other commands that can be used; more than just dig can be used here, and there are web sites that can perform this translation for you.)  Then connect to the IP address that this command emits.  Your /etc/hosts block will not prevent this, and will not block this.
    If your daughter is somewhat more technically savvy, a VPN will bypass the /etc/hosts blocks.  She'll need access to a VPN server, and those are available from various free and very low-cost sources...

  • Spend more 3500 a year - what about the excess points?

    Hi,
    I'm a eliteplus member and have spent more than 3500 in this year. My question is, will the excess money be added to the next calendar year, or will it be reset on Jan 1 2016?
    Thanks for answering!!!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello again roshinichi,
    I hope that you are enjoying your Wednesday morning so far.
    I pulled up your My Best Buy™ account and can see that you have already requalified for Elite Plus status during the 2015 calendar year.  When it comes to qualifying for Elite or Elite Plus status an eligible Best Buy purchase would only count towards the calendar year in which it was processed, and any amount spent over the required $1,500 (Elite) or $3,500 (Elite Plus) would not carry over to the following calendar year.  Your spending total would reset to $0 on January 1st.
    As I mentioned in my response yesterday, please feel free to send me a private message if you have any other questions about the My Best Buy™ program or your account.  I am always more than happy to help.  You can send a private message by clicking on the blue button in my signature that is labeled "Private Message."
    Thank you for reaching out to us on the forum and congratulations on requalifying for Elite Plus status!

  • About the "Registry point"?

    Hi to everyone!
    How can i change the registry point of and object?
    I dont mean the pivot, i mean the "registry point".
    When i want to center an object to the perfect center, if i put 50%, this count since the upper left corner, and adds all the height and width of the same object. I want to count since the center of the object.
    How can i do this? Somebody can help me, please? Thnx a lot.

    since any div is a rectangle or a square I suppose you can calculate the coordinate of the center like this:
    the x axis would be at 1/2 width
    and the y axis at 1/2 height.
    var xAxis = 400/2;
    var yAxis = 300/2;
    so the registry point would be at (xAxis, yAxis)
    Therefore if you wanted to center the element  400 x 300 according to a stage that is 500 x 400 and the center point you could use this:
    var xAxis = 400/2;
    var yAxis = 300/2;
    var xPos = (500/2 - xAxis);
    var yPos = (400/2 - yAxis);
    sym.$('Rectangle').css({
         left: xPos,
         top: yPos
    You could generalize this by getting the height of the stage and the height of your element as well as the width of your stage and the owidth of your element and apply the formula.
    var elementHeight = sym.$('Rectangle').height();
    var elementWidth = sym.$('Rectangle').width();
    var stageHeight = sym.$('Stage').height();
    var stageWidth = sym.$('Stage').width();
    sym.$('Rectangle').css({
         'left': stageWidth/2-elementWidth/2,
         'top': stageHeight/2-elementHeight/2
    Here is the file with 2 different elements, a rectangle and an ellipse being centered on the stage according to their registration point which is in this case the middle of the element.
    https://www.box.com/s/79oh194blyk45wjcvw74
    If you wanted to center the element according to its origin, then it would be different.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can somebody give me a good explanation about the exclamation points?

    I would really like to know why they show up suddenly, wnen nothing has been done to change anything except to sync the ipod.
    So many of my songs suddenly get the excl. point, and I can't locate them on hard drive (know they must be there, just not computer savvy enough to locate them), but they still show up on my ipod and play without any problem.
    Where might I find them? (when I answer yes to do you want to locate the file, it doesn't really help much).
    When I do actually find the file, what can I do to remove the excl. point so that I can edit title or artist, etc.?
    I'm just really curious as to why, for seemingly no reason, the excl. point just suddenly appears.
    Thanks,
    Sue

    The ! next to the songs can mean several things. The files have been moved from the iTunes music folder, or deleted from your computer entirely. Or the song files have been renamed/edited or otherwise changed by some method other than iTunes. Or they are on an ext hd which may at some point become disconnected or powered off. In any event, iTunes has lost track of these song files. If it's none of these things that's causing your issue, then I have no explanation.
    You can use Explorer to search your computer for missing songs.
    On the Start menu, click "Search".
    Select "All Files and folders".
    In the "All or part of the file name" field, type the song name and then click "Search".
    If you see the file you are looking for in the Search Results window, you can add it back into your iTunes library.
    See: How to add songs from your hard drive to iTunes.

  • Everytime I start time machine, my computer backs up +/- 250MB, then freezes.  Tried it with 3 different external drives, all stop at about the same point (they all work fine on other macs). Any suggestions?

         The drives I have are Seagate 1TB GoFlex portable drives (one has UBS 3.0, the other USB 2.0), and a WesternDigital 1TB passport (USB 3.0).  I originally tried to backup with Time Machine using the Seagate USB 3.0, and when that didnt work, Seagate suggested maybe since my operating system is a little older, that I try with a USB 2.0, so they sent me another NEW external hard drive, with the USB 2.0.  Had the same issue.  Frustrated and convinced that Seagate just  sucked, I went and bought the 1TB WesternDigital passport (USB 3.0).  Have the exact same issue again.  Every drive was new, and formatted for mac.  When I started time machine it started to back up my files, but froze after copying give or take 250 MB (usually 252.5MB, to be exact).  I went and tried the drive on several other macs, and none of them presented any problems.  I also tried dragging individual files, but it still freezes on pretty much anything bigger than +/- 100MB.  Disk Utility says that all the drives are fine. Obviously this is a problem with my computer, and not the 3 brand new external drives.  I thought about upgrading to OSX 10.6, but don't know if this'll help or not (plus, I'd really prefer to have all the files backed up on a drive before doing that, just in case).  I dont know what else to do.. called apple, but I'm not about to pay them $50 to have them MAYBE give me a solution (done that twice now for previous unrelated issues, and each time they just told me to take it to a computer repair place.)  Just seeing if anyone out there has a solution before I cave and take it back to the certified computer guys for them to figure it out.. Also, I live in Montana and theres no apple store anywhere close (not suprising), so taking it to an Apple Store is just not an option.
    Side note:  Seagate tech support is awesome; they tried everything to solve the problem, and they even bent their rules a little to send me a new drive, even though it wasn't a malfunction issue with their drive.  Really helpful, friendly people, which is much more than I can say for Apple at this point...

    this is what you need to do to exclude everything apart from desktop.
    on time machine preferences, click on Options
    click plus sign, on the new window, click macintosh HD
    do a Control + A then deselect users then click okay
    go to options again, plus sign, go to users, control +A then deselect your user account
    go to options again, plus sign, go to your user account, control + A, deselect desktop
    start the back up.

  • What I have learned about the optical drive and my question is:

    I am used to burning data to a CD or DVD on the PC and never experienced a problem. With an RW disk, I can simply open the disk and add, delete, format, etc. without any problem. It is fairly easy to make the disk as a Data disk which effectively works identical to any external hard drive storage device in terms of file operation. I would like to do the same thing on my iMac 27, but have learned some of the limitations of my Apple drive program.
    1) It will recognize only certain disks. Example: will not recognize a CD-RW, resulting in the following error message: “Medium Write Error” . However, the drive will recognize a CD-R blank disk.
    2) When it does work, the disk cannot be made into a Data disk in that it is limited to what it will allow. Example: I cannot delete selected portions of anything stored on it. I cannot format the disk; it can only be erased. If I want to add a file to it, I must go through the entire Burn process of creating a *.dmg file. If I want to modify a file or folder, I have to erase the entire disk, make the file correction and burn it again onto the disk.
    3) The erasable disk can only be made if the disk has been checked as “Leave disc appendable”, otherwise it is strictly a read-only disk. The following link should be helpful.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh1749.html
    4) Apple’s position is apparently that anything burned to a disk should be for archive purposes only.
    5) The installation of a 3rd party program such as Roxio is the only way to achieve the ability to have a disk perform as an external hard drive.
    My question is this: Can anyone suggest a reasonably prices 3rd party data disk creation program that functions well within the Snow Leopard environment?

    My suggestion would be Roxio Toast and, if you are not already doing so, instead of using only media for your backups, you should consider one or more external hard drives for either Time Machine and/or a bootable clone. Both methods automatically update your files while copying them. I have bootable clones and, once or twice a year, I will burn a DVD with extremely important data just to have another copy, but that is not my main backup.

  • Curious about the way points may have once been given

    Were points once assigned in the past not according to solved or helpful answers, but simply according to the number of posts made? I'm asking this because I occasionally encounter someone with maybe, several bars, registered years ago, who seems almost completely helpless technically.

    So, conceivably, absent any negative points, someone could have gotten up to two bars, maybe even more, just on the basis of the number of points?
    Yes.
    Did this happen?
    Yes.
    Does this explain the contradiction I've sometimes noticed between the obvious lack of technical chops and number of bars for some members?
    Yes.
    What was the mechanism for voting on posts?
    Each member, according to their level, was given a certain number of votes to use daily and weekly. Members were allowed to vote on any post in Apple Discussions. Members were allowed to vote posts up or down and they were able to award individual posts up to five votes.
    The algorithms for point gains and losses through votes that were received were fairly opaque. I believe the wording was something like "A point may be gained or lost for every five positive or negative votes that post receives," so it wasn't always easy to predict how (or how many) votes on individual posts earned or cost points for that post.

  • Two quick questions about the new iMacs...

    I work at a church, and this summer, we are breaking ground on a new building. I am hoping to get a new iMac to go in the new sound booth to run the Power Point. Two questions:
    Would a church get a special discount when buying from Apple?
    Did I hear somewhere that the new iMacs support an external monitor (a different output than the main monitor)?
    Thanks!
    Matthew

    <<Would a church get a special discount when buying from Apple?
    Did I hear somewhere that the new iMacs support an external monitor (a different output than the main monitor)?>>
    I know Apple offers education and government discounts... I'm not aware of discounts for church organizations.
    Yes, the iMac CD offers support for dual monitors, mirrored and extended.

  • How do I get the rotate tool to default locate the pivot point in the exact center of an object or group of objects?

    My new copy of CC has the default pivot point set to one side, rather than the center. I know I can manually move the pivot point around, but this is not always exact. Is there a way to have AI determine the exact center and then make this the default?

    s,
    We are not talking about the Reference Points in the Transform palette, are we?
    In any case, you may consider the list.
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible), for CS3 - CC you may find the folder here:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/preference-file-location-illustrator.html
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • EXTREMELY slow synching and having to reinstall, for the 3rd time!

    Recently, I got an update for iTunes. I installed it and it said "Would you like windows to restart now or would you like to manually restart later?" I clicked on that I would manually restart. Well, I had computer problems so I had to hold down the power button and restart. (This is unhealthy and should only be done in an emergency!) When I turned it back on, I got an alert that said "Unable to open iTunes, please uninstall then reinstall." So I did. This is about the 3rd time this has happened. Now my iPod Video (80g) syncs majorly slow. Like when I say majorly I mean about 30min-1hr major. If you could help me in any way, that would be awesome!
    +EDIT: Also, when I'm listening to my music it will stop at random parts of the song, any idea why? It has done this ever since it came out of the box!+
    Message was edited by: Ashleigh Martini

    So, since it syncs really slowly, make sure that it's not a USB issue with the iPod. Make sure it's the only USB device plugged in since the others might be taking power, and then try to get the iPod plugged in directly to the back of the computer to make sure it's plugged into your more powerful ports.
    If that doesn't do it, it might be confused with a network drive and following that article helps you change the drive letter.
    Also make sure to disable any third party software that might be interfering with it, go through this article if you've got XP or this one if you're using Vista.
    Hope I was of some help,

  • A few questions about the FCE interface

    I'm new at FCE, but I've done video editing for a few years in Windows (Vegas Movie Studio mostly, it was pretty good but limited in the number of video and audio tracks). I've finally made the jump to Mac and I'm excited getting started. The ability to do keyframes and motion is outstanding and I can't wait to play with LiveType and Soundtrack.
    There's a few things I'm not sure I understand about the FCE interface. I'm working on my first project and it's going to me mostly made up of short (4-10 second) video clips and still photos (with pan and zoom and some motion) and background music. I've done several of these in the past in other software, this project is my learning one for FCE.
    However, I can't understand why some things happen they way they do. If I drag a clip or still from the bin to somewhere in the middle of my existing sequence where there are no items on the video track, it 'parts the seas', moving all video on all tracks to the right and cuts my audio track wide open leaving a huge gap to make room for the clip or still even if it has no audio. The same thing happens in reverse if I'm deleting a still or clip, it chops it out and scoots everything over. I think I want to manage my own gaps rather than FCE trying to manage it for me. Does this have something to do with ripple editing - something that I must not have learned in my Windows video editing experience?
    I've ordered a few tutorial books based on recommendations in this forum, they're on their way. I didn't expect to be immediately proficient, but it seems I'm not understanding something fundamental about the interface.
    There's other questions too, like when I move a video clip from one track to another (up or down, not left or right), why does it move the audio portion of that clip to another audio track? Sometimes it stomps on something I already had on that track. Can't I unlink those somehow?
    When I bring two clips or stills together and attempt to overlap them (which I think should mean I'm doing some type of transition), it seems to just truncate one or the other. I suppose I just need to get used to that?
    Thanks for any suggestions you may have.
    iMac 20" intel   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

    You need to get comfortable with targeting your tracks and, as mentioned, locking off tracks you don't want to affect.
    You say you want to add a clip/still to the "middle" of a sequence ... I take it there are clips to either side of this spot that you don't want to affect. Then I would set In and Out (I and O) points in the timeline to define the space you want the clip to occupy. If you don't want audio to carry over, then lock off whatever audio tracks you have edited. Then do an Overwrite by either dragging the clip to the far right of the screen to get the Overwrite pop up or by using the F10 key.
    The Delete key to the right of your keyboard (sometimes under the help key) does a ripple delete. The Delete key under the number keys (sometimes a backspace key) removes a highlighted portion of video without rippling the timeline.
    If you lay in a new clip with audio and don't want to affect an existing track, target a separate set .. so if you have a clip on V1 with its audio on A1/A2 and you want to overwrite the video but add new audio, target V1 and A3/A4.
    As to overlapping clips .. if you want to use transitions, overwrite your first clip. Overwrite the second right up against it .. don't try to overlap. Now select your transition and drop it down between the two clips. NOTE: FCE needs handles ... like about a spare 15 frames of info on both clips
    I strongly reccomend Tom Wolsky's book on FCE. It has tutorials and is a great way to start. I've never used Vegas but FCE is a very deep program ... it takes time, practise and patience (and you online manual is a great resource too)

  • A few questions about the Zen Mi

    I'm looking into the Zen Micro 5GB, and I have a few questions that I couldn't find on the sight or aren't completely sure of. Sorry if I'm just blind and didn't see them, but I figured you guys could help.
    ) How do you charge the battery? I'm assuming its with some sort of adapter, and if so, is it included with the player?
    2) It says Windows 98SE is compatible, so does this mean regular Windows 98 won't work at all? I'm currently using W98 but will probably be upgrading soon so it chouldn't be too much of a problem, but if W98 is supported I could order it sooner.
    3) Will it work in tandem with a cassette adapter for a car? A cassette adapter isn't on the accessories page, but will one I already own work just fine?
    Those are all I can think of right now, thanks in advance for your help, and feel free to leave any comments about the player that any of you have.

    the headphone jack problem is not really fixed. If you rather not have it happen to early, i would suggest you take really good care of your ZM's headphone jack. Just take good care of it. But the headphone jack problem may occur at any point, i dunno why. it is very strange, some owners are lucky that the problem will occur in 6-2 months or maybe not at all for now. There are some owners that are unlucky that the problem may occurred like 2 weeks to couople months. I am currently trying to take really good care of my ZM after all the great lessons i learned from my previous mp3 players.
    the headphone jack problem isn't fix, so be cautious a bit.

  • Questions about the future directions of InfoPath and Microsoft Access

    Because I have been confused about the future directions of InfoPath and Access, I wrote a short blog post, which I have pasted below.  My question is, can Microsoft provide some more guidance on Access vs InfoPath?  If Access is indeed the
    the future direction, can you please provide some pointers to resources that can help us transition.
    A Short Review of MS Access,  SharePoint ,InfoPath (2013)
    After the November 2012 SharePoint Conference in Las Vegas (#spc12) there were a number of blog posts and people saying that Access 2013 was great and would be replacing InfoPath.
    Marc Anderson and
    Ruven
    Gotz have short posts summarizing #SPC12 and touch on the subject of InfoPath and Access.  I also spoke with several individuals shortly after #SPC12 and they were excited about Access 2013.
    Since I rely heavily on InfoPath for much of what I do, I wanted to kick the tires and see what everyone was talking about.  First, a few notes about SharePoint 2013 and Office 2013.
    Microsoft should rename Access:  If you have tried to
    bing the word Access, then you know that the search results are overwhelming,  because the word "access" is used for so many other purposes.
    Use the RTM version of Office 2013! I was performing  my investigations by leveraging the Office 365 Beta and the Office Applications that come with it.  Not much was working!  After I uninstalled the Beta
    version of Office 2013 and Installed the RTM version everything seemed to work.
    Windows 7 and IE 9.0: The drag & drop that is being touted as
    "manna from heaven" seems to work well with Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and IE 10, but it does
    not work with IE 9!
    Non Microsoft browsers are still second class citizens (except for the drag & drop):  Microsoft has finally done away with the Active X's for datasheet view (that is brilliant!)  One can now see the newly
    minted datasheet view in many browsers.  But I still find that one needs to be in IE to do a number of key manual opeartions.  For example pasting numerous rows of data from a spreadsheet into the new sheet view works only in IE.
    Access 2013
    Microsoft Access is touted as a non developer tool.  I know a number of people who are on the business side and love Access.  These people will like the renewed energy that Microsoft has applied to Access.   One should note that conceptually
    this functionality existed  in SharePoint 2010.  Here is what I see that is new:
    +The new version works better:Although I haven't tested it fully, it seems that many more features that work on the Desktop version of Access, now work in the published Web Application which is hosted by SharePoint 2013.
    +The new version has fairly robust browser based forms: End users can now fill in data using forms that are rendered in the browser.
    +The published version that resides in SharePoint now uses its own SQL server tables.  So the engine appears to be SQL Server, not a modified version of Access built for a server.  This stands to be quite robust, but I imagine
    that some quirks will surface due to new model.
    The limitations are:
    - Access is pretty much its own application and does not integrate with SharePoint building blocks.  For example, an Access table is not easy to integrate with a SharePoint workflow.  Further, although  Access forms now are visible
    in a browser, they are not nearly as rich as InfoPath forms.  InfoPath forms cannot easily integrate with the Access tables.  In order to integrate SharePoint features and Access, one needs to tie SharePoint list(s) to Access as data sources.
    This overcomplicates the model and one may very well run into synchronization issues.
    In short, although I believe there will be some people who will be happy with newly minted Access, I do not think that Access will be able to replace InfoPath and Workflow technologies.  I do agree that Microsoft does not seem to have put much energy into
    InfoPath.  If they leave a vacuum in this space, then others may very well take over, for instance Nintex Forms.

    Although I agree with the comments made by Ruven and Marc after the conference please note that those blog posts are their own personal opinions and that they don't work for Microsoft.  A lot of people have asked Microsoft to clarify the future of InfoPath
    and the response up until now has been a deafening silence.  In my opinion speculations about Access replacing InfoPath are premature.
    I should also point out that most of your comments about Access 2013 above are actually about Access Services in SharePoint Server 2013.  Access Services are NOT Access they are a shared service offering in SharePoint that convert and publish Access
    databases and forms.  As you point out once an Access database is published through Access services it is converted to SQL Server and no longer resides in Access.  Of course I don't work for Microsoft either so these are all just my personal opinion.
    Having said that I doubt you will get the confirmation/response that you are hoping for from any official Microsoft channel.
