Access properties of the class passed to a thread

Hi You all,
I have the following code:
package com.services;
import java.util.*;
public class Timer implements Runnable
     //                         CLASS OBJECTS
     private int interval;
     private volatile int clockFlag = 0;
     //                              CONSTRUCTOR
     public Timer()
     public void stop()
          this.interval = 0;
     public void setInterval(int pInterval)
          this.interval = pInterval + 100000000;
     public void run()
          while(this.interval != 0)
               if(this.clockFlag == this.interval)
                    System.out.println("clockFlag");
                    this.clockFlag = 0;
               this.clockFlag ++;
Timer objTimer = new Timer();
objTimer.setInterval(5);
Thread objThread = new Thread(objTimer);
objThread.start();So if I want to use the run method of the Timer class what should I do?
Is there any method in the thread that alows me to call any method of the class passed to it?
Thanks,
MeTitus

That's usually a bad design choice.why?You should extend when you actually want to add some new functionality to a class, and the OP doesn't want to create a new type of thread. He just want to execute something in a new thread.

  • Jndi.properties in the class path

    Hi,
    i deployed a webservice to the embedded oc4j in JDEV(10.1.3).
    Form this webservice an external oc4j (9.0.4) is looked up.
    First problem:
    I have some problems to initial the InitialContext. It seems to me that the jndi.properties file is not found.
    I think its perhaps a classloader problem.
    Second problem:
    If i hardcode the props, the extarnal oc4j is connected, but the lookup hangs up.
    May be it a the different versions are the problem.
    Any help appriciated.
    Thanks and regads
    Chris

    Ok. I finally i found a solution for the second problem, after i could take a look into the logs of the external oc4j.
    Thanks to heimberger and his blog.
    In 10.1.3 there where some changes to ormi (new protocol version 1.3). For a communication between 10.1.3 and older versions of oc4j a patch is needed. Its metalink 4676768. The older version must be able to negotiate the version of ormi.
    Hope that will do the job.
    But i still can not make the 10.1.3 embedded oc4j take the jndi.properties from the application classpath.
    I wonder if nobody has had the same problem.
    Regards
    Chris

  • I can no longer access "properties"

    I have an HP LaserJet 1536dnfMFP.  I'm running Windows 8.1.
    I can no longer access "properties" from the print screen.  And, I've tried right-clicking on the printer icon in the control panels.  Either nothing happens or the screen flashes and nothing happens.  I can no longer open properties.
    I've tried accessing properties on my other installed printer, it works fine.
    I've uninstalled and re-installed the software.  I've updated the drivers.  I still cannot access Properties.  The one reason I bought this printer was for the duplex printing option, and now I cannot access it.  Any suggestions?

    Hello njs216,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
    I understand you're unable to access properties using the Laserjet 1536dnf MFP. I will do my best to assist you! First, I need to find out what type of programs you're printing from that you notice this issue?
    I would like you to access you go into Devices and Printers on your computer. Right-click on the Laserjet 1536dnf printer icon. Click Properties and click the Device Settings tab. Please see if you have an option to make sure the duplex is installed by following this HP document on  Configure Auto-Duplex, 2-sided Printing On Both Sides.
    You can also select to print double sided in the Device settings tab, then try to print a document. Also, try running a System File Checker by following this HP document here. This will scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.
    Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great day!

  • Restricting class access to only some classes.

    Hi Guys,
    I want my classes to be accessed by only my defined classes. Is it possible?
    Say I have public class defined test. I want that this class should be accessed by only the classes I want not by any other class by any mean. If somebody tries to access the class it should result in SecurityException. How can I do that???
    Thanks,
    Rajan

    maybe a package private class will do it, ie package the classes in the same package. define the particular class as protected, it will be visible to other classes in the package, the other classes maybe public.
    otherwise maybe it is an protected abstract class that the others extend?
    otherwise have this particular class take as arguments the other classes in overloaded methods?
    otherwise maybe a strategy pattern and default is a do nothing class (ie throws)?

  • Discuss Identity and Access Management in the Cloud

    Identity and access management in the cloud refers to the processes, technologies, and policies for managing cloud systems identities and controlling how these identities can be used to access cloud resources. Three separate processes are used in most cloud
    identity and access management solutions:
    Identity provisioning and storage
    Authentication
    Authorization
    Identity management in a cloud system requires a complex collection of technologies to manage authentication, authorization and access control across distributed environments. These environments might include assets both on the internal cloud, which would
    be an on-premises private cloud, and services accessed on the public cloud. These environments can also cross-security domains, as when two enterprise-level organizations collaborate and enable cross-domain access to users from the partner security domain.
    You can learn more about these topics in the article Identity and Access Management in the Cloud.
    Let's talk about that article and the topics of identity and access management in the cloud! Use this thread to get it started.

    Tom,
    I am a novice and attempting to achieve a proof of concept of single sign on.  One example I read stated one should install Identity and Access on VS2012.  I did this on two different machines.   One was in the office domain and it shows the
    item "Identity and Access..." in the context menu of the MVC project I created.  The other machine is my laptop.  I followed the same procedure that worked on the desktop, yet the Identity and Access item in the project context menu does not show.
     One difference is that the laptop is not part of a domain, but I am attempting this proof of concept in Windows Azure with the laptop, since we do not have a test AD in our corporate domain.
    Is this the right forum to inquire about this issue?  Do you have a recommendation about a better forum?

  • How do I go about adding my own method to the class Calendar?

    I want to add a method to the class Calendar that will parse a string and set it's date and time with what it parsed from the string. I allready have the parsing code written but I want to know how I can add this to the Calendar class.
    I thought I could extend the Calendar class with something like this...
    public abstract class myCalendar extends Calendar{
        public myCalendar() {
        public int parseDaytime(String givenLine){
            int flag = 1; //used to report errors
         //do some parsing
            return flag;
    }But then in my main program I cannot use any of the Calendar methods...
                myCalendar timeFromServer;
             timeFromServer = timeFromServer.getInstance(); //error, it won't let me use the Calendar methods
                if(timeFromServer.parseDaytime(readFromServer) == 0){
                    System.out.println("Error parsing time data from server.");
                }

    Aside from my original question, I do not understand why extending Java classes is over kill. You listed the example of extending Thread as a big one. Everytime I create a worker Thread the class I create extends Threads because thats what I learned from every example I have looked at.
    Okay. I should be good at writing this by now, so here goes....
    You only get to inherit from a superclass once. You can implement as many interfaces as desired. As such, whenever you inherit from a class, you are limiting any other possible inheritance from another superclass. So, all things being equal, you should prefer interfaces to inheritance.
    This is why java.lang.Runnable exists. There is almost never a reason to extend Thread. The normal 'is a' test is somewhat misleading in this case when determining whether to extend Thread or not. You may say, "My class is threaded, so I should extend Thread." However, while there exists an 'is a' relationship here, it is not salient. Your class undoubtedly is something else as well. The fact that it is threaded should be thought of as an aspect of feature of your class.
    So, in general, you should implement Runnable and not extend Thread.
    public class Foo implements Runnable {
       final public void run() {
           // cool asynchronous code goes here
    public class FooUser {
       private void someMethod() {
           Thread thread = new Thread(new Foo());
           thread.start();

  • Call function, pass value, access variable in movieclip class from main stage

    i am new to flash as.
    I got quite confused on some problems. as the function here
    is quite different from c and asp.net.
    I have a movieClip named MC, and it's enabled with action
    script, with the class name MC_Rectangle
    and a Stage.
    I override the MC_Rectangle class file in a mc_rectangle.as
    external file.
    here is the code:
    package{
    import flash.display.*;
    import flash.events.*;
    public class MC_Rectangle extends MovieClip {
    var sequence:int = new int();
    function setSequence(data:int):void{
    sequence = data;
    function addSequence():void{
    sequence ++;
    I have new a object in the main stage var
    mc_rect:MC_Rectangle = new MC_Rectangle()
    question:
    in main stage:
    1. how can i access the variable "sequence" in "mc_rect"
    2. how can i pass parametre from main stage to mc_rect via
    function setSequence(data:int)?
    3. how can i call the function in addSequence() in mc_rect.
    in asp.net, i usually use mc_rect.sequenct,
    mc_rect.setSequence(data), mc_rect.addSequence() to achieve my
    goals......
    btw, can function in mc_rect return out result to main stage?
    thanks in advance.

    Your as-file must be named MC_Rectangle.as (same upper/lower
    case as in the Class name)
    Ad 1) You have to declare sequence as a public property
    "public var sequence;" or - better - define a getter-function for
    sequence.
    Ad 2) mc_rect.setSequence(8); e. g. (you must write "public"
    in the Class-declaration of setSequence)
    Ad 3) mc_rect.addSequence(); e. g. (you must write "public"
    in the Class-declaration of addSequence)
    ... and yes, your methods can return a value: Replace "void"
    with the proper data type (int, String, ...) and place a "return
    myNumber;" or the like in the method's body.

  • PLEASE HELP. How do you access properties files in WEB-INF  and classes directory

    We have a war file that needs to access properties files that are in the WEB-INF directory
    of the war file. We also need to load one of the properties files from the classpath.
    However, when we deploy the application ( an ear which inlcludes an ejbjar and a
    war and the libraries both the ejbjar (with a manifest setting the classpath ) and
    war need ) the properties don't get extracted.
    In some of our servlets we are trying to access those files with the path "WEB-INF/foo.properties"
    and we get a FileNotFoundException. Then we check and see that NO properties files
    have been extracted into their appropriate places ( not even those we throw into
    the WEB-INF/classes directory ).
    PLEASE HELP,
    Christian Hargraves

    The file doesn't have to be extracted from the war. For example, you can place
    test.properties into your app WEB-INF and write a simple JSP to see how it
    works:
    <%
    InputStream in = application.getResourceAsStream("/WEB-INF/test.properties");
    %>
    It will return you a zip inputstream if you deployed your application as a .war.

    I try this, but I get a NullPointerException. The file never actually gets extracted

    extracted directories for WebLogic deploys. only:
    WEB-INF/some_tmp_dir/WEB-INF/lib
    and then some dynamically generated jor file with all of the classes that would normally
    go in WEB-INF/classes ( all except the properties, of course, which are no where
    to be found. ).
    There has to be some kind of setting I am missing. Please don't make me seperate
    these properties files from the war/ear and then put the path to these properties
    files in the CLASSPATH, changing one step to three steps to deploy!!
    I have found a documented bug where you can't even put the properties files in a
    jar file and that bug will never be fixed for WebLogic 6.1.

  • Thread cannot access the class variables.

    Hi
    I have below code snippet : (Only section of which I have copied below)

                                       int ch=0;
                                       ch++;

    port =
                        (MI_OS_APPEND) obj.getLogicalPort(
                             "MI_OS_APPENDPort",
                             MI_OS_APPEND.class);But when I am trying to access this port variable in run method it is giving null.
    Port in my code is a class variable.
    Is it the case that thread cannot access class variable !!

    ok, I have removed join() from just after start().So that now the Servlet can return before the new Thread has finished. Is this what you want?
    First I did invoked all threads and then in second loop i invoked Join on all threads.I don't understand. Why do you need to join() all the threads since you only start one thread in this request. What am I missing?
    >
    Now, my problem.
    It was solved when I substituted the line
    ProcessAppendAction run = new ProcessAppendAction(req)
    with
    ProcessAppendAction run = new ProcessAppendAction(req,port);Of course. Instance variables in Servlet instances are a no-no so passing the 'port' though an instance variable is just wrong.
    >
    That is passes port alongwith req while creating thread object.
    But still if class variables are not thread safe, then it means if I pass object 1 to thread 1.
    And then try to pass object 2 to thread 2, it might be possibility that object 1 of thread 1 might be replaced by object 2.
    So, thread 1 will get an updated value object 2.Yep - that is why you should not use instance variables in Servlets and why they are not thread safe.

    Which is not what I intend to do...:-)

  • How to keep track of all the classes/methods/properties created in a long script

    Hi,
    I'm curious to know what method people use to keep track of all the classes, methods, and properties you've created when writing a longer script.
    For quick scripts, this isn't a problem. But for long scripts it can get quite difficult to keep track of all the objects one has created, and all their methods and properties, and overloaded constructors, etc.
    ESTK is great, and it's the IDE I use for InDesign scripting, if only because of it's powerful debugging options.
    But it doesn't provide any way of keeping track of this stuff. No proper Intellisense as in Visual Studio.
    I'd be interested to hear how people solve this issue.

    Hi Ariel,
    Not sure it is relevant to your question but I have an old snippet that collects and displays ExtendScript references using $.list(). This may help to track some object relationships.

    Hello,
    I think that you use the import-declarations incorrectly.
    Your code says:
    import com.zswingpackage1;
    ... The meaning of the above declaration is the following: Import the class "zswingpackage1" from the package "com". The compiler cannot find that class, but it is probably never asked to find it in your code, so it won't report an error.
    If you want to import the whole package use the following declaration instead:
    import com.zswingpackage1.*;
    ... That means: import all classes from from the package "com.zswingpackage1".
    You can also import just the classes needed, e.g.:
    import com.zswingpackage1.swing_optgrp_eg1;
    ... I hope that does the job.

  • Accessing properties of loaded WindowedApplication from the Main WindowedApplication.

    Hi Friends.
    I am trying a project and according to my plans I am trying
    for some thing but don't know is it possible..
    I am compiling multiple air applications and One of them will
    be the main application. and another will not be actually *.air but
    the compiled swf file.
    In my final Air package I am going to package the Main
    application withe the other swf file too.
    So the main application will load the second swf file on
    requirement.
    Now my issue is i am able to access properties/functions of
    main application from the loaded WindowedApplication but I am not
    getting the idea how to access the loaded WindowedApplication
    properties/function from the MAIN application..
    This i am doing Because I can later Modify only the other
    application with out EFFECTING the MAIN.. like software updates..
    But getting the issue... Local Connection is Success. but
    still I want to establish a direct connection between the two
    WindowedApplications so to avoid lots of code what we write for
    LocaConnection objects.
    Please Give me any idea.

    I'm not sure how successful you will be with this in the long
    run. The WindowedApplication component is meant to be used as a
    singleton.
    If your goal is simply to modularize your code, you might be
    better off creating components that your main application loads,
    rather than trying to create multiple separate AIR applications and
    then combining them.

  • "Access Violation" exception while accessing PDEImage in outside of the class as a parameter

    Hi,
    In our project, we are retrieving PDEImage content from PDF Page by using below line of code in our Plugin project:
    But we are getting "Access Violation" exception while accessing retrieved PDEImage in outside of the class as a parameter.
    This issue is happening only in Windows 8.1 and Acrobat 11 combination.
    If we remove the above highlighted lines from the method then no exception and working fine.
    But we don't know why these lines are added, because we are not updating any of the PDF content here.
    We are planning to remove these highlighted lines from the method.
    We want to know whether the removing of these lines will impact the application.
    Kindly help us to resolve the issue.

    And will removing the lines impact the application? Certainly. If you do not call PDPageReleasePDEContent you will have a memory leak at best, or may prevent other activity from completing (such as saving or closing the file). The first two lines, however, are redundant since you do not seem to be actually changing the page.
    You must call PDPageReleasePDEContent  when you have finished with the content, in every case.

    Sorry I was really busy the last few days. Thank you for your answers!
    I probably should have left out all the specifics of what the software was that I was packaging, because I think what I was really asking did not come across clearly. What I really wanted to know is:
    Why do I have to provide the "-I /usr/include/headers_dir" compiler option for some libraries but not for others, although the header files for each lie in a level 1 subdir of /usr/include?
    I thought that maybe there was some kind of index of installed libraries that I didn't know about, which I could have updated from within PKGBUILD (so I guess that's why I included it originally). Seems to me now, though, that this is not the case.
    I did put in some google time (but not lots b/c 1. hard to google and 2. busy) to find an answer, but to no avail and it's not really top priority right now (and quite honestly never will be, since there is the -I option), so I guess it'll have to wait, unless someone knows...
    ---EDIT---
    So, right after I posted this (stupid me) I had a little think and I finally understand, whats happening.
    1. Headers are not found without specifying the directory they are in.
    2. I need the -I option because easykf headers are not well formed.
    Thanks a lot!

  • Passing select-options parameters type to the class

    Hi All,
    I am creating one class and I want to pass the select-options parameters directly to it like s_plant,s_mtart etc .
    So while specifying these as paramters what type I should give them?
    Rgds,
    Madhuri

    Whatever you finally decide upon, you must have a Data Dictionary definition. So either create one for each type (bukrs, vkorg, etc.) or use a general one like RSELOPTION. However with the general one you have to put extra code in the class to convert back from a CHAR 45 field to your special field.
    Anyway, using the Data Dictionary is fun! So go create as many new tables as you need. In the long term, the work you do in the Data Dictionary is never wasted and it may save you time in the future when you need that structure / table again for a different program.
    Creating these structures and tables is easy if you use shortcuts. For example in local definitions in your program you can code...
    data range1 type range of bukrs.
    or
    data wa_bukrs type bukrs.
    ranges range1 for wa_bukrs.
    either of these gives you the structure... no need to manually type sign, option, low, high...
    What about Global (data dictionary) definitions? yes, there are also shortcuts...
    start transaction SE11, enter range table name in the 'Data' field (e.g. ZMYRANGETAB), Hit Create, choose to create a Table Type... now you are on the blank new Maintain Table Type screen. enter a short text for your new table, then choose
    Edit->Define as ranges table type
    next enter your data element (e.g. BUKRS) under 'data element', hit Save and activate. You just created your range table without manually entering sign, option, low, high...
    But wait there's more... on the same screen you can now (after saving the range table) also enter a structure name such as ZMYRANGE in the field 'structured row type'. Hit Create and you are taken to the Maintain Structure screen where the sign, option, low and high are already populated... add a short description and save and activate... you just created a workarea for your range table.
    You just created a table type ZMYRANGETAB and a structure ZMYRANGE with minimal effort.
