Sending pics in Apple mail to PCs

Hi,
I'm having trouble sending pics in Apple Mail that show up in the body of the text and not just as an attachment. People who get my emails with Apple Mail seem to see the pic in the body, but other users, especially PC users only see the pic as an attachement. How do I solve this problem? If it's unsolvable in Apple Mail, what other applications would allow me to do this? (I've tried Entourage, and in HTML mode I can send pics in the body fine, but I can't send hyperlinks!) I'm tearing my hair out here
Danny

Hello Danny.
As others have provided, the Mail.app shows all image/photo and smaller PDF attachments (1-2 pages) inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default which cannot be turned off.
Jaguar/Panther Mail does not support HTML composition so you cannot embed an image or photo within the body of a message.
You can control-click on an inline or viewed in place attachment and select View as Icon but regardless, all Mail.app attachments are sent as true attachments to the message.
When sending attachments to Windows users, you should also select Sent Windows Friendly Attachments.
Depending on the recipient's email client and available preference settings, image/photo attachments may appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default when the recipient opens the message (as with the Mail.app) or as attached files which must be opened separately for which the sender of the message has no control over.
You can send links such as http://www.apple.com/ which must include the http:// portion but you cannot send a hyperlink with Jaguar or Panther Mail. An included link does not become active until after sending the message. After sending a message with a link, you can check the copy of the sent message to confirm the link appears active.
RTF with Tiger Mail is simple HTML but you cannot compose complex HTML within the body of the message. Tiger Mail does support turning selected/highlighted text or a word into a hyperlink.

    Hello Fruhilda!
It seems that my problem is resolved. My version was 4.1 and App Store didn't show any updates. But after som searching I found out that there was an iWork 9.3 update which I downloaded and installed. After the update the version was 4.3 and I was able to send documents to Apple Mail.

  • Since 2 days can't send emails via Apple Mail

    Hi,
for 2 days now I'm unable to send emails from Apple Mail.
I have an Hotmail account (using POP3) and a WEB.DE account (using IMAP) connected with Mail. Every time I try to send an email Mail tells me the SMTP server are offline. My mobile.me account though works properly.
To exclude problems with certain ports on my WLAN router I tried to use Thunderbird on my Windows PC with these accounts. Sending emails this way wasn't a problem at all.
Also deleting all accounts and setting them up again didn't make a change...
Even changing the OS back from Lion to SL hasn't made an impact.
Any suggestions what might cause this weird problem?

    Hello P:
Since each one is different, I suspect the best answer to your question lies with your ISP.

  • Can't send email through Apple mail

I suddenly am not able to send email through Apple mail on my MacBookPro.  ipad and iphone still working.  I can also send email through att online.  My email is @att.net, and the message says "The server cannot be contacted on port 465".  (That is the proper port)

    Hi,
    Here are some suggestions,
    1. Try downloading another free email client to see if it works from there, just to eliminate other possibilities.
    2. Try removing the account in mail settings, and adding it again with the correct settings.
Let me know what you find!

  • Please Help! Trouble sending email from Apple Mail to PC-users

When sending email in RTF format from Mail to PCs, we have som trouble which I havent found out how to solve:
    1) the PC user gets a scrambler email, in which some of the text is like "chinese". Illegible! This seems to happen especialle with PDFs attached.
    2) Graphics or pictures we wish to appear directly in the mail is not visible to the receiver, but is only included as attachments.
I know most mail encoding problems can be avoided if we send mail i the "old" simple text format. But we wish to send mails in which our company logo appears in the signature, and sometimes we send graphics and pictures that we wish to be seen directly in the mail (and not as attached files only).
I have set the preferences so that mails as standard are send in RTF format and attachments are send in the "windows friendly" mode.
What really irritates me is that we have more success sending PC friendly mails from Entourage. But for two other reasons we wish to use Mail instead of Enrourage (Entourage has more crash downs/"broken" database issues. And we use Plaxo which does not sync with Entourage)..
Could some of you Please help or direct me to helpfull info?
    Sincerely ...Peter and Thomas

    Hello Peter.
Your OS detail provided indicates you are running 10.3.9 but you posted in the Mail & Address Book - Tiger discussions.
    1) When you say PC user, more than likely the PC users reporting this problem are using Outlook for their email client since Outlook has always had problems with Mail's RTF and sometimes severe problems depending on the version used by the recipient. Using Plain Text for message composition will resolve this but check this link for an alternative.
    http://homepage.mac.com/thgewecke/woutlook.html
    2) All Mail.app versions prior to Tiger Mail (2.x) do not support composing in HTML. RTF with Tiger Mail is HTML but Tiger Mail does not include an HTML composer/editor.
The Mail.app displays all photo/image and single page PDF attachments inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default which cannot be turned off. This is not the same as being embedded which cannot be done with any Mail.app version directly regardless. Depending on the recipient's email client and available settings, such attachments may appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message when the message is opened by the recipient (as when receiving such attachments with the Mail.app) or as attached files only which must be opened separately to be viewed for which the sender has no control over.
The same in reverse. Photo/image attachments to a Windows Outlook message appear as attached files only when the message is sent but when sent to a Mail.app user, such attachments will appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message when the message is opened which the Windows Outlook user has no control over.
The company logo included with your Signature is likely appearing as an attached file to the message only but how the logo appears when opened by the recipient depends on the recipient's email client.
The only thing the Windows Friendly Attachment option does is remove the Apple resource fork for attached files which are invisible to fellow Mac users.

  • I am unable to send emails using apple mail, but can still receive

A very odd situation this.  I have a couple of POP3 accounts and an Exchange server account.  All was going well until a few days ago when all my accounts stopped sending mail, but still continued to receive mail.  I have removed each account and restored it but this hasn't worked, the timer is constantly spinning against the 'Sent' header.  All these accounts work in their webmail version so I have to conclude the fault is with Apple Mail.  Can anyone help please?  Thanks.

  • Can't send email using Apple Mail with Verizon

My Verizon settings in my Apple Mail program will not send mail. I am using my correct password and userid for authentication. I use outgoing.verizon.net server and port 587. Should I be using a different port setting?

port 110 is the port number for the incoming (pop) mail server, port 25 is the port number for the outgoing (smtp) mail server. If they were insisting that you use port 110 for the outgoing (smtp) mail server, that is because the tech support rep with whom you spoke was not a very clueful person. These are established standard port numbers for those services.

  • Gmail stopped sending messages on apple mail

I went to send a message from my apple mail (gmail account) and it won't send.  Says smtp.gmail.com is offline.  I didn't change any settings but when I went in to check them, they were all gone.  I added back smtp.gmail.com under description and my complete email address under server name.  I then went to advanced settings and made sure the Use default ports (25, 465, 587) was checked and also Use Secure Sockets Layer was checked.  I chose Password for authentication and added my complete email address for user name with my password.  It still says I'm offline and won't sent a message.
    Any ideas anyone?

  • After recent upgrade to 10.4, I am unable to send or receive Apple Mail

I recently upgraded to 10.4.9 from 10.3.9. Since doing so, I cannot send or receive mail. I am not computer literate and have no real idea what to do in this instance. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks.

What does “I cannot send or receive mail” mean? What’s the problem exactly? What error messages do you get, if any?
In Mail, open Window > Connection Doctor. What does it say?
Could it be that Mail or this particular account is in an “offline” state? Is the Mailbox > Go Online command enabled or disabled?
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
Mac OS X 10.4.7 introduced connection issues in Mail as a result of (according to the documentation) “Mail now supports connecting to mail servers through a SOCKS proxy”. Problems caused by that can usually be fixed by going to System Preferences > Network, choosing the network port configuration used to connect to Internet from the Show popup menu and disabling SOCKS Proxy in the Proxies section if it’s enabled.

  • Cannot send gmail in apple mail since upgrading to Yosemite

Since I upgraded to Yosemite, I am unable to send any mail from any imap accounts.  My gmail and work account are offline.  I've tried all of the tricks others have posted and tried to reset the accounts up again.  I left one of my iMacs using Mavericks and have no problems.  Any ideas?

  • Sending limit in Apple Mail

Yesterday and again today, using the Mail app on my iPad, I have been getting the following message, after I tried to respond to a message that must have had a hundred addressees:
Apple email is "Unable to Send Email.  A copy has been placed in your Outbox.  Sending the message failed because you exceeded  your sending limit."
I deleted the offending message from my Outbox but still every try to send out a message (only six) has been met with the above notice.
Today, using the Mail app on my  iPhone, I am getting the same notice.
Am also puzzled why the three Mail apps are not syncing.  No outbox shows up on my Mac Mini, and only the single failed message shows up on my iPhone.

Is this an icloud email account ? If it is then there is a limit to how many messages you can send in a day, and the number of recipients for an email : Mailbox size and message sending limits in iCloud - Apple Support  :
There are several safeguards in place to make sure that only iCloud members can send messages using iCloud. One of these safeguards includes reasonable limits on:
The total number of messages you can send each day (200 messages)
The number of recipients you can message each day (1000 recipients)
The maximum number of recipients per message (100 recipients)
The size of incoming and outgoing messages (20 MB, up to 5 GB with Mail Drop turned on)
If it's not an iCloud account then check with your email provider to see if they have any limits.
