Access to ssrs 2008 issue

I am working with a vb.net 2010 web form application that calls a reportviewer control to
display selected reports ssrs (*.rdls) from the reportviewer.
The problem is, I believe that the wrong report server is being called since the rdls that are
displayed are old version of the rdl reports. However I do not know what other report server could be
called unless it is on my own workstation. There is no other test report server to call.
I can not find what could be wrong by the debugging I am doing.
In the web.config file, <appSettings> <add key="ReportServerURL" value="http://testdev/ReportServer/"/>.
When I access the test report server, the url is the following:
http://testdev/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx?ViewMode=List.
Thus can you suggest what I could try to see what is wrong and/or tell me, show me in code, and/or point to a url that will tell me what could be wrong?
Is there a possibility that a test report server value can be wrong? I am the only person who has used this test report server within the last 2 years. What setting(property) do you think I should look at?

Hi wendy,
According to your description, when you call a report in your reportviewer control, but you find it is an old version report. Right?
In this scenario, we are still not clear about the "old version rdl report". Do you have different version of SQL instance on your test server? If your URL is correct, you suppose to get the report properly. For your self testing, you can access the report
through URL to see if it returns the right version report. If possible, please post some screenshots of your report, it may help us figure out the issue. Thank you.

  • SSRS 2012 rendering issue/Enabling Anonymous access - Upgraded SSRS from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012.

    Hi,
I just recently upgraded SQL 2005 SSRS to SQL 2012 SSRS. Everything is working great other than small issue.
Sounds like some authentication issue. SQL 2005 SSRS - IIS, we enabled anonymous access and we never had this problem. SQL 2012 SSRS /WIN 2008 R2 -  I am not sure how to enable anonymous access.
If anyone can help me on this? I really appreciate your help.
    Thanks,

    Hi Vel,
According your description, you want to know how the enable anonymous access to SSRS 2012. Right?
In SSRS 2008 or later version, we are not using IIS any more. If we want to configure the authentication, we need to configure in RSReportServer.config. This file locate at:
    <drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS12.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer
However, in SSRS 2012, Anonymous authentication is not supported on report server. Please see:
    Authentication with the Report Server
In this scenario, we need to custom an authentication type to achieve the "Anonymous" goal. Please refer to the link:
Configure Custom or Forms Authentication on the Report Server
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • SSRS 2008 Line Chart Issue.

We are facing an issue with SSRS 2008 charts. We have a report which shows dynamic number of series on a line chart. The data values may not exist for all series for
the same x axis points. We expected SSRS to connect the missing points as average and have set the empty point option to average.
    The issue is that the
    1)
lines for interpolated points only appear when we set the color of empty point to say red and not when it is set to automatic. We need the interpolated line in the same auto
colour as the original line as we will have markers for the data points from the DB and no markers for empty points.
    2)
The interpolated lines extend backwards in the series also – we expect it to only fill the gaps and not extend backward or forward.
Are these issues known and is there a work around for these issues ? We got your name from one of the SSRS community discussions. Could you please connect us with
the right person if you are not the right contact for this issue ?
I also got following reply from one of the MS guy, it says
    Hi Akshay,
The lines should not go backward.  I have seen this happen before and I’ll have to double-check on what that occurs. If you
are using a Category Axis, make sure you set the sorting to use a Cdate() expression.  I think that might be it ,but I’ll have to double check.
As far as using the auto-coloring on the series when you have empty points like this, I don’t think that’s possible.  It would require
a DCR.  You may need to implement something along the lines described in this article  http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa964128(SQL.90).aspx.
When I tried the suggestions I over come the auto colouring issue and also used CDATE () but lines still extend bacawords. Can anyone suggest what to do it this situation

    Hi AKshay_Jadhav,
Firstly, I am not sure who is that MS guy you mentioned without the detail name. Based on my understanding to your issue, I think you could utilize the function
IsNothing in reoprting services to have a check whether the value is null, if it is Null, you should give a average value to this point, if not leave it to be the original value. Of course, you could achieve this in T-SQL. To
the color and marker, we could type in the expression in both feature to control their display effort.
    Hope this helps.

  • Ssrs 2008 export to csv file display issue

In a new SSRS 2008 report, I would like to know if there is a way to automatically expand the width of some of the rows when the data is exported to a CSV file so the data is displayed correctly. Here are examples that I am referring to:
    1. In one column where there is suppose to be a date that looks like 12/11/2014, the value of ########## is displayed. The value of 12/11/2014 is what is setup in the SSRS formatting option.
    2. In a number field that is suppose to look like 6039267049 the value that is displayed is 6E+09.
Basically if I manually expand the width of the columns that I am referring to above, the data is displayed correctly. Thus can you tell me what I can do so that the data is disaplayed correctly in the CSV file and ther user does not need to manually expand
the column to see the data?

    Hi wendy,
After testing the issue in my local environment, I can reproduce it when use Excel to open the csv file. As per my understanding, there is no width when we export the report to csv, Excel is just using the default cell sizes when we open the csv. So when
a date value is wider than the default cell size, it would be displayed as ##########. When a number value is wider than the default cell size, it would use Scientific format.
As to the date value, we can use the expression =cstr(Fields!Date.Value) to replace the former one =Fields!Date.Value. In this way, the width of the value is narrower than the default cell size, so that the date value can be displayed correctly. For the
number value, it already narrow down the width with Scientific format. Or we can Select all the cells in the csv file, then click Format| AutoFit Column Width to change all the cells width to fit its corresponding values in Excel level.
Besides, we can try to export to excel instead of csv. Excel format can inherit the column width in the report. So in this way, we can directly change the width to fit the values in Reporting Services level.
    Hope this helps.

  • SSRS 2008 Header height issues due to merged columns

When working on a report today we ran into an issue which took us quite some testing to figure out. At some point we decided to switch some of the headers of columns around and when rendering the report again it for some reason created a header which was
way heigher then the biggest text there, showing a huge empty space in the header underneath the text.
My first guess was that there had to be some extra spaces in some column or something alike, which made the cells grow so much. This however was not the case. As a next step I cleared the cells in the headerrow one by one to figure out which field was making
the header grow this much. It turned out to be the header in the 10th column. When I replaced the text in this cell, it did not make the header grow anymore. When I put the original text back, it started growing again. As a next step I removed the text in
this cell, pasted it in another cell (column 11) and rendered the report, with the same huge header again. Out of frustration I tried a desperate last move, copied it to column 1 and rendered the report, the effect was a small header without some weird height.
So the conclusion was that this text was making the header grow hugely in the columns 10 and 11, but not in column 1? What is the difference between column 10/11 and column 1?
Then I noticed that column 7, 8 and 9 were pretty small columns, only holding integer values. The header above this, however, was one word, so the 3 cells in the header for these columns were MERGED. So basicly, only looking at the cells in the header, my
huge text was in the 8th cell from the left, not the 10th (10th column, but due to merging the 8th cell). As a test I editted the width of the 8th column (the middle one of the merged cells) to be as wide as all the other columns holding text. The rendering
of the report, with the huge text in the original headercolumn, now did not grow my header to be extremely big. This combined with the way "hiding" works in SSRS 2008 oppose to SSRS 2005 (ie, in 2008 a hidden cell disappears completly, moving all next cells
up to the left, where as in 2005 a hidden cell just shows as empty in the report), leads me to believe that there is a bug in SSRS 2008 considering cell widths and merged cells? It is like the 10th column header now thinks it is part of the 8th column (being
the 8th cell in its row due to merging) and therefor works with the width of this 8th column to judge how much increased height it needs. In fact it is the width of the 10th column and therefor doesnt need the height it creates, resulting in a huge empty space
    underneath the text.
Is this a known issue by Microsoft? Any ETA on this for a fix?

This combined with the way "hiding" works in SSRS 2008 oppose to SSRS 2005 (ie, in 2008 a hidden cell disappears completly, moving all next cells up to the left, where as in 2005 a hidden cell just shows as empty in the report), leads me to believe that

    Hi Joel_i,
I was a little confused with the paragraph above. Could you please elaborate it?
Based on the information posted, I tried to reproduce the scenario, but it works fine. During my test, the header cells grow
only when the text in the head column is too long which will caused newline, or there is some extra space in some columns. So, you might need to check the properties of the 8th column cell, such asSpaceAfer,
SpaceBefore, to make sure all properties are set rightly.
To provide you further assistance, could you please post the report and dataset with sample data to our data collection E-mail
    address?

  • Strange issue with a huge SSRS 2008 report (supposed to return 3 million records)

    Hi,
NOTE: The strange part (as mentioned in title) will come in the end.
I am running a SSRS 2008 report which fetches 3 million records from a remote server. After around 1 hour the report processing stops and I see an error icon on the lft bottom of the browser window. When I click on that to see the error details it shows
some PageRequestManagerSQLErrorException with an unknown error message with code 12029 (sometimes 12002).
When I see the reportserver logs there is an error message logged in it which says "Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.ReportServerDatabaseUnavailableException: The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the
database is required for all requests and processing. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.ReportServerDatabaseUnavailableException: The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the database is required for
all requests and processing. ---> System.InvalidOperationException: Timeout expired.  The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool.  This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size
    was reached."
The <DatabaseQueryTimeOut> value in the report server configuration file is already having a value set to 7200 seconds(2 hours).
NOW, the strange part is, when I open the ExecutionLog2 table in ReportServer database, there is an entry for the same report with the status as "success" !!!
My head is spinning over this issue, somebody please rescue.
    Regards.

Not sure if this will help but you might give it a try :
    1. Open the Registry Editor.
    2. Navigate to the registry path below.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\
    3. Create a DWORD value MaxUserPort.
    Value name
    MaxUserPort
    Value data (in Decimal)
    10000
    4. Restart the server.
    5. Check and confirm that the registry key ‘MaxUserPort’ is added.
Do the same process as above for TCPTimedWaitDelay and reduce the value to 60.  The above steps are to increase the maxuserports and reduce the time_wait in order to free up resources on the server.

  • Issues passing drillthrough parameters from a multi-level tablix in SSRS 2008 R2

    Hello,
I am really struggling with trying creating a drillthrough report that starts with a matrix (tablix)  and passing those  parameters. I am using SSRS 2008 R2.
    Here's my scenario:
I have a matrix that has mulitple levels where you can drill down. Here an example with all the levels open:
    Active
    Term
    Leave
    Total
    128
    88
    121
    United States
    110
    80
    85
    New York
    65
    30
    57
    Manhattan
    10
    6
    9
    Buffalo
    20
    23
    4
    Albany
    35
    1
    44
    Texas
    45
    50
    28
    Dallas
    40
    30
    22
    Houston
    5
    20
    6
    France
    18
    8
    36
    Centre
    18
    8
    36
    Blois
    7
    2
    8
    Druex
    6
    1
    15
    Tours
    5
    5
    13
I want to drillthrough to another report - Detail Report. As I understand it, I would click the 65 for New York and I would see the detail for the 65 Active people. If I click the 2 under Blois, I would see the 2 terminated people in Blois. My understanding
for this to work, the Detail Report would need a a parameter for each of the level possibilities in the matrix that I could click: Country, State, City as well as the Status (Active, Term, Leave).
While I understand about passing parameters, what I don't understand is how to pass the parameters if they are blank. Let's say I clicked 65 for New York, I would need to pass State = New York  Status = Active. But the remaining parameters (Country
and City  would be null). I know Country doesn't need to be Null in this case.
My Detail Report has the parameters defaulted to Null, but whether I put the parameters in a Filter for the dataset or in the query itself, I cannot get it to ignore the Nulls.
As a crazy work-around (I think) I can put in the Where of the query  something along the lines of: this:
            and (a.Country in (@paramCountryCode) or NULL  in (@paramCountryCode) )
and I would need to do that for each parameter. Usually I have to use 'ALL' instead of NULL, I'm note sure why.
Additionally, in the Report Action of the Main Report, I need to pass those parameters for each level and their Status. I am also not clear whether or not I need to put in all the parameters on each of the levels (Country, State, City) of the matrix. And if
I do, do I need to make the expressions an IIF statement stating whether or not they are In Scope?
All the examples I was able to find, only showed one or maybe two parameters being passed. Doing the way I am trying, seems convoluted, error-prone and tedious. I really hope that I am wrong.
Is there a better way to approach drilltrough reports from a matrix when there are multiple levels?
    Thank you for the help.
    ~J

    Hi Jenna_Fire,
According to your description, you have a matrix contains total for each group on each level. Now your requirement is, when you click on any number (data field or total), it will go to the detail report which returns all the detail information of the people
within the group scope. For example, if you click on the total of Active users in United States, it will return the detail information of Active users in New York and Texas. Right?
In this scenario, we should set the parameter (@Country, @State, @City) allow multiple values in both main and detail report. And in Default Value (@Country, @State, @City), query out all distinct values. In the textbox which contains
those total values, when set use these parameters to run the report, we only need to pass the parameters of parent groups. For example, if we click on the total of Active users in New York, we only need to pass Country, State, Status to detail report, and
in the detail report, the City parameter will use all distinct values (Default Values) because we don't pass the City parameter. We have tested this case with sample data in our local environment. Here are steps and screenshots for your reference:
    1. Create parameter Country, State, City and Status in both main report and detail report. Set both Available Value and Default Value get values from query (Create a dataset for each parameter, use "select distinct [column] from [table]" as query). Set allow
multiple values for parameter Country, State and City in both reports.
    2. In corresponding textbox, pass appropriate parameters in go to report Action.
    4. Filter data in detail report (in where clause or using filters).
    5. Save and preview. It looks like below:

  • Issue with SSRS 2008

Hey, I am trying to generate this oracle database report and getting this error message.
I am using SSRS 2008 to build this report and the query is not responding.
It give me: ORA-01858: a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected
When I run my Query in the builder, it returns perfect results, however if I try and run my Query through the report I made in SSRS2008, it gives me this error message. The Query is connecting to a PL/SQL database.
    Here is my query.
Please I need help. Thanks in advance.
    SELECT distinct
    t.uniquenum,
    t.doc_id,
    t.doc_class,
    t.BAIDS as Business_Account_ID,
    t.doc_category,
    t.doc_type,
    t.trade_entity,
    t.trade_id,
    t.document_date,
    t.trade_date,
    t.inactive,
    t.modified_by,
    t.modified_date,
    t.mime_type,
    t.product_category,
    t.term_matured_date,
    t.doc_classification,
    s.uniquenum
    from fndept.sig_updated_docs_header t
    join fndept.sig_updated_docs_detail s
    on (t.uniquenum = s.uniquenum)
    WHERE
    (Trunc(modified_date) BETWEEN to_date(:BeginDate, 'mm/dd/yyyy') AND to_date(:EndDate, 'mm/dd/yyyy'))
    ORDER BY t.DOC_CLASS, t.DOC_CATEGORY, t.DOC_TYPE, t.modified_date

Another possibility report parameters :BeginDate and :EndDate are declared in SSRS as DATETIME and therefore being passed to Oracle as DATE. Then construct:
to_date(:BeginDate, 'mm/dd/yyyy')which expects a string as first parameter but receives a DATE implicitly converts :BeginDate to string using default date format which is most likely set to 'DD-MON-YYYY' and then tries to convert that string to date using 'mm/dd/yyyy' format. Obviously it fails. For example (I'll use SYSDATE):
    SQL> select to_date(sysdate, 'mm/dd/yyyy') from dual;
    select to_date(sysdate, 'mm/dd/yyyy') from dual
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01858: a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected
SQL> If that's the case (:BeginDate and :EndDate are declared in SSRS as DATETIME) - remove offending TO_DATE:
    WHERE
    (Trunc(modified_date) BETWEEN :BeginDate AND :EndDate)
    ORDER BY t.DOC_CLASS, t.DOC_CATEGORY, t.DOC_TYPE, t.modified_dateSY.

  • Performance issue due to localization code in SSRS 2008

The reports I am working on consist lot of data and all the customers use it frequently.
Report title and columns are localized by expressions .
This takes long time for report rendering and exporting to csv. When I test without the localization code it doesn't take that long .
Can someone help me to optimize the report. SSRS 2008 R2
    Archana

    Hi Archana,
In Reporting Services, the total time to generate a reporting server report (RDL) can be divided into 3 elements:
Total time = (TimeDataRetrieval) + (TimeProcessing) + (TimeRendering)
TimeRendering means the number of milliseconds spent after the Rendering Object Model is exposed to the rendering extension. It includes the Time spent in on-demand expression evaluations (e.g. TextBox.Value, Style.*). So it is make sense that the report
with localization code takes longer time.
Besides, we can improve the report performance form other aspects. For example, we can add filter, sorting and aggregation in dataset query, because filter, sort, and aggregation is more efficient on the data source than during report processing. For more
details about report performance, please refer to the following article:

  • Not being asked for credentials in SSRS 2008 R2 for Firefox and Safari

I have an instance of SSRS 2008 that is currently working on all browsers (the URL is something like reports.foo/reports).
I spun up a new instance of SSRS and placed it on the url report01.foo/reports.  This new instance is connected to a different domain (I am spining up a Active Directory Domain and trying to build out our infrastructure, so the logins are different).
I am able to access the new URL (report01.foo/reports) from IE and Chrome.  It is asking for the username/password and able to get on just fine.
However, when I try to go to the new URL (report01.foo/reports) using Safari and Firefox, it never asks for credentials and shows a blank page.  This does not happen for the old URL (reports.foo/reports), only the new URL.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Ben,
Per my understanding that you have configured windows authentication and which by default will not prompt for credential. So I assumed you have changed the User Authentication setting in the security setting to pop up for credential, for example like below(IE),
If so, your issue about the pop up credetial not pop up in Firefox and Safari can be caused by the related security setting, If you give Anonymous User rights, you may got the blank page:

SSRS 2008 R2 is extremely slow.  The query runs in less than a second in the dataset designer but if you try to view the report it takes over 10 minutes.  I have read this is a bug in SSRS 2008 R2.  We installed the most recent patches and
service packs.  Nothing we've done so far has fixed it and I see that I'm not the only person with this problem.  However I don't see any answers either.

    Hi Kim Sharp,
According to your description that when you view the report it is extremely slow in SSRS 2008 R2 but it is very fast when execute the query in dataset designer, right?
I have tested on my local environment and can‘t reproduce the issue. Obviously, it is the performance issue, rendering performance can be affected by a combination of factors that include hardware, number of concurrent users accessing reports, the amount
of data in a report, design of the report, and output format. If you have parameters in your report which contains many values in the list, the bad performance as you mentioned is an known issue on 2008 R2 and already have the hotfix:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2276203
Any issue after applying the update, I recommend you that submit a feedback at https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/
If you don’t have, you can do some action to improve the performance when designing the report. Because how you create and update reports affects how fast the report renders.
Actually, the Report Server ExecutionLog2  view contains reports performance data. You could make use of below query to see where the report processing time is being spent:
After you determine whether the delay time is in data retrieval, report processing, or report rendering:
    use ReportServer
    SELECT TOP 10 ReportPath,parameters,
TimeDataRetrieval + TimeProcessing + TimeRendering as [total time],
    TimeDataRetrieval, TimeProcessing, TimeRendering,
    ByteCount, [RowCount],Source, AdditionalInfo
    FROM ExecutionLog2
    ORDER BY Timestart DESC
Use below methods to help troubleshoot issues according to the above query result :

  • Ssrs 2008 r2 writing mode rotate270 has changed

On an SSRS 2008 R2 report that is executed on  report server 2012, I have a report that uses writing mode Rotate270 to change the direction of the label of columns. This worked fine until a month or two ago. No code was changed.
Now when the report is executed the following occurs:
    1. When the report is accessed by the following browsers the writing mode is ignored. The following is the differences between browers:
    a. When the ssrs report is accessed by Firefox or Opera, the direction of the labels are displayed as horizontal.   b. When the ssrs report is accessed by Internet Explorer, the direction of the label is vertical.
The report servers that uses reporting services 2012, has a 64 bit Windows R2 Enpterprise Operating System.
I am assuming that there is some windows update that caused this problem to occur. Thus I am wondering if you can tell me what could of caused this problem to occur? I am also wondering what you suggest to fix the problem? Do I need some kind of a Microsoft
update, if so which one? Should I change the SSRS report, if show can you show me what code to change?

After testing the issue in my local environment, I can reproduce it. As per my understanding, the issue is caused by this property is not supported in Firefox or Opera browser with 64 bit Windows R2 Enterprise Operating System. For more details, please

  • SSRS 2008 r2 - the Report Manager won't load unless "/Reports" is added to the DNS entry in address bar

    Need some direction, please.
We are moving off  SSRS 2005 to a new server with SSRS 2008R2. The old installation (2005) a DNS entry was created "reports" with the ip address and port number simple. In the Configuration manager the Report Manager Virtual Directory
is "Reports". Website is Default web site. Typing "reports" into the address bar opens up report manager. When this is done the address shows as reports/reports/pages/folder etc.
The new installation is configured the same(?). DNS entry "reports2" with new ip address and port number. In the Configuration manager the Report manager URL virtual directory is "Reports" URLs: =
http://servername:port/Reports. The issue is when typing "Reports2" into the address bar the report manager won't open unless "reports" is added to the dns name i.e. http://reports2/reports
    is entered.
This thread took me to more like kind thread than my searches. Went into IIS in the default web site I added an htm file with a redirect. Then started it, it works. Maybe due to my inexperience but seems counter intuitive as I thought Reporting Services did
away with any reliance on IIS.

    Hi Urquhart,
According to your description, if you type "Reports2" in the browser, then you want to redirect to the report manager homepage in SSRS 2008 R2, right?
In Reporting Services 2008 R2, it uses HTTP.SYS for HTTP access and it’s independent of Internet Information Server(IIS). The role for HTTP.sys in Reporting Services is that, HTTP.sys receive the user's request, and then send it to report server. Report
Server handle the request(e.g. authenticate the users), and then use HTTP.sys the send HTTP responses again. In a word, HTTP.sys is just a driver, which allow us to communicate the clients(browser) with Report Server without Microsoft Internet Information
    Server(IIS).
So, since HTTP.SYS doesn’t provide URL redirection function, we are not able to redirect "Reports2" to report manager homepage by default. If we want to use redirect function, we should add a .html file in IIS to redirect the user to the report
    manager.

  • SSRS 2008 - ServerReport.SetParameters() suddenly extremely slow

    Hi,
We have been using SSRS 2008 R2 for quite a while now but 3 weeks ago we started to notice some performance problems when generating SSRS reports. We have a .NET client which gets the list of reports from the server and then the end user can select a report,
enter the parameter and then view the report in our client.
So 3 weeks ago users started to notice that when they clicked on a report (and in the background we load the parameter prompts etc.) it took almost a full minute. When normally this would only take a few seconds. I have narrowed it down to the method mentioned
in the title. When we call the method ServerReport.SetParameters(parameters) our client has to wait for that one minute.. This also does not go away when you run the report a second time. This is becoming a real problem as our users produce a lot of reports
during the day and every time that method is called the client has to wait 60 seconds. This was not the case 3 weeks ago, I have already checked if something was changed on the server etc. but everything looks okay. Went through the logs etc.
Could it be that our ReportServerTempDB is getting too big? When I checked the logs I saw that the Clean Batch() is running every 10mins so this looks ok. Will check with our Infrastructure Team later to see how big the ReportServerTempDB is and if it is
possible to purge some of the data.
I also read a about report caching but I am unsure if this helps at all and/or which form of caching to use. Our users run a certain amount of reports on a daily basis where only the date range changes (today they run it for 01.08.2014, tomorrow maybe for
02.08.2014 and so on). Would caching help in this case?
Any other things I might be overlooking or that you think could cause the problem?
    Thanks a lot!
    Fabian

    Hi Fabian,
According to your description, the reports performance become poor in the latest three weeks. And you think the issue is caused by the ServerReport.SetParameters Method. As per my understanding, there does not performance concern of SetParameters or other
method among Report Manager, Report Viewer or URL Access. Because every call to Reporting Services will use the same Programmatic interface to render a server report. We can try to directly render the report in report server to check whether it related to
    the method.
Besides, I think the problem is duo to the cache of the .NET compilation or the HTML render. We can try to clear the cache and restart the server to check the issue again.

  • "Software Usage Metrics initialize failed" error when open Report Manager, after moving ReportServer from SSRS 2008 to SSRS 2012 (Native Mode)

I've asked this question in SQL Server Upgrade forume, I'm asking here as well:
    Your help is highly appreciated!
After migrating ReportServer db from 2008 to 2012, when access Report Manager throughhttp://myserver:80/Reports, I got the error below:
ui!ReportManager_0-3!11d8!02/04/2013-15:19:12:: e ERROR: Software Usage Metrics initialize failed
    The process is below:
•I successfully installed SQL Server 2012 (64-bit) Enterprise as a Native Mode on a server who runs Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 (64-bit).
•I restored "ReportServer2008To2012" and "ReportServer2008To2012TempDB" in SSRS 2012 from the db files backed up in SQL 2008. In SSRS 2008, I have SSRS Model, ad-hoc reports based on model, and I also have canned reports built through BIDS
    report server project.
•I reconfigured both databases' Compatibility level to SQL Server 2012(110) from SQL Server 2008(100).
•I configured SSRS through Reporting Services Configuration Manager as below:
      > I chosen "Use built-in account:" as Service Account
    > In "Database" tab, I selected "Choose an existing report server database" and choose "ReportServer2008To2012" db, I used "Windows Authentication" (my login has the System Administrator priviledge). I got all 4 parts
success: Verifying database sku = Success; Generating rights scripts = Success; Applying connection rights = Success; Setting DSN = Success.
    > I went to "Scale-out Deployment" to check if the initializing succeed, I found nothing there.
Here are what I did from different approaches:
A •I went to "Encryption Keys" and restored the key I backed up from SSRS 2008, after retoring, I got two initialized instances: One is on my current server (SSRS 2012), the other one is from the old server (SSRS 2008).
I deleted the old one(SSRS 2008) through "Remove Server" action and kept the one on my current server(SSRS 2012).
After I restart SSRS service, and tried to connect Report Manager, I got "An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details."
I checked the log file, the error is actually "ERROR: Software Usage Metrics initialize failed"
B •I also tried to "Delete Encrypted Content" and did see the SSRS was initialized through checking it on "Scale-out Deployment", however when I tried to open Report Manager, I got the same error.
Anyone had the same issue? Any solution? Thanks in advance!
