Access UNIX-based Oracle from OS/390?

Hello. I'm having trouble finding information about the possibility of accessing an Oracle database (8.1.7) on AIX from an OS/390 mainframe. I have seen references to "Access Manager for CICS" but cannot locate it on the Oracle site. I have also looked at the Gateway information, but that seems focused on UNIX or AIX based Oracle looking at "files" or "databases" on other operating systems. Can someone clarify this for me?
thanks, Katie

I need help with the same question although I am coming at it from a different starting point.
I currently have a C++ application running in CICS & batch on OS/390 which is accessing an Oracle9i database also within the same OS/390.
I am considering moving the Oracle9i database from OS/390 to another OS (possibly Solaris). I understand that technically I can do this but I don't understand what software I need nor what the licencing situation is. I do not want to have Oracle9i database licenced for OS/390 but I obviously need have some sort of client software on OS/390.
Can someone tell me what is the client software product I need and how do I get it without needing to have a licence for the Oracle9i database for OS/390?
I have virtually no Oracle experience so excuse me if I am asking a silly question.
Thanks

  • Secure connection from Windows to Unix based Oracle

    Greetz!
    I hope this is the correct forum to post in for this. I am a .Net developer and I have need to authenticate to an Oracle DB on a UNIX server from a Windows server.
    I have a requirement for an excel spreadsheet that takes in a large amount of data and creates a pivot table and several worksheets a few times a day.
    It is saved to a SharePoint site where users can download it. We will be moving to SP 2010 in about 8 months but I can't wait for that (of course) and am not convinced that would help this issue.
    We are currently on 10g but in the process of 11g. The solution will likely run on 11g (place is nuts..nothing is certain)
    I cannot pass credentials using ODBC because it is clear text.
    The Oracle instances do not have Oracle Advanced Security turned on.
    Is it possible to pass a username/password from the windows server to the unix server securely (encrypted).
    Thank you!

    Depending on which version of UNIX you are migrating to, transportable tablespaces will require RMAN for conversion.
    select * from v$transportable_platform;The ENDIAN_FORMAT determines if conversion is needed. If one platform is BIG and the other is LITTLE, then conversion will be required.

  • Accessing 64-bit Oracle from 32-bit ODBC

    Hi
    I am installing a software using 32-bit ODBC for connection to Oracle.
    The server has been installed by our client and has the following specs:
    - AMD Opteron Processor 280
    - Windows server 2003 R2 Standard x64 Edition SP2
    - Oracle 10g Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bit
    - Both a 32-bit and a 64-bit client has been installed
    Using the 32-bit ODBC administrator I can add the "Oracle in OraClient10g_home1" driver, but I can't find the right database, only lots of other databases our client has on other servers.
    If I go to the 64-bit ODBC administrator I can find the right database and noting else, using the driver "Oracle in OraClient_home".
    How can I get the 32-bit ODBC client to connect to the 64-bit database?
    Regards
    Leidulf

    Hi
    I did that, I entered the following into the tnsnames.ora, as this was how it was entered in the 64-bit client:
    DKMVKK =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = krhsrvora02)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = DKMVKK)
    Now I find this in the 32-bit ODBC administrator and the "Test Connection" is successful. And fails if I enter the wrong password, so I know it is correct.
    But still I can't connect using the software that worked well on the previous server (32-bit), and using the same credentials and database name. I also have installed an independent SQL viewer that connects via ODBC, this does not work either, getting the ORA-12154.
    I have also tried to change the HOST to the IP address with no luck.
    The database and the client runs on the same machine.
    What can be the problem?
    Regards
    Lediulf

  • Accessing unix script from Apex

    Hi There,
    Is it possible to access unix script from apex?
    Or to run a batch file through apex?
    Please help!!
    Thanks in advance,
    Pushpesh Pallav

    The solution depends on the purpose of the script.
    "I want to run a database backup"
    learn RMAN, create an RMAN repository, and have Oracle backup itself
    "I want to backup a schema on demand"
    use dbms_datapump
    "I want to put/get a blob to/from a file on an internal machine"
    one method:
    Install and register Oracle Agent on internal machine
    use dbms_scheduler.put_file()/get_file()
    "I want to get a file on an external machine that is available via HTTP(s)"
    I've used ORDDoc( 'http://...' ) to get this file.
    "I want to run the script and parse the results. - no input parameters are needed"
    Enhance the script to return CSV like results
    Then, create an EXTERNAL TABLE with a preprocessor
    ".. and the script returns performance matrix of a server"
    I believe Oracle has already written (and incorporated) those scripts.
    "..and the script checks to see if a new file exists"
    DBMS_SCHEDULER.FILE_WATCHER()
    "I want to give it some parameters,run the script, and then parse the results"
    Wrap the script with SOAP/REST.
    Example wrapper stuff:

    Hi
    I have some pdf files in "\home2\docs" directory in Oracle database server 10g. (OS is Linux) I want to access those pdf files from my client system through Oracle Forms. How is it possible?
    Please Help!!!! It is very urgent !!!
    Expecting fast response!!!!!
    Bye

    hi
    Thank u for ur response.
    Initially i tried to access pdf file from database server. I didn't get any solution for that. So I copied all my pdf files to Application server which is in Linux environment at "/home2/docs" directory.
    I gave the following command for accessing the pdf files kept in Lnux Application Server from Oracle 10g forms in a button press trigger.
    web.show_document('http://192.168.1.53:7779/home2/docs/test.pdf');
    It says "page cannot be found"
    So I copied one of the pdf file named "test.pdf" to "/oracle/oas10g/IasHome/forms90/java" in Linux Application Server . Then the following command
    web.show_document('http://192.168.1.53:7779/forms90/java/test.pdf');
    has opened the the pdf file in browser.
    192.168.1.53 is my Linux Application Server IP. and 7779 is the port.
    Actually we have lacs of pdf files. So i cannot keep all the pdf files in "/oracle/oas10g/IasHome/forms90/java" directory in Linux Application Server. And also all the pdf files not in the same directory , "/home2/docs" some of the pdf files r in the subdirectories of "/home2/docs/" like /home2/docs/sub1, /home2/docs/sub2, /home2/docs/sub3 etc.
    Then how to configure my "/oracle/oas10g/IasHome/forms90/server/forms90.conf" file for retrieving pdf files from "/home2/docs/" and its subdirectories. Is Anything other than this, required for solving my problems.
    Now My PDF files r in LINUX APPLICATION SERVER not in database server.

    MS Access 2007 DB migration To oracle 10g

  • How Offiline Data loading is possible from MS Access DB to Oracle DM

    HI All,
    I am new to Oracle.
    I am trying to migrate few tables from MS Access DB to Oracle DB (10g)
    I have used the migration utility from the Sql Developer tool.
    I was successful in creating the schema and also transferring the data for tables.
    But if my data in Access DB is updated everyday then how am i suppose to link this to newly created oracle tables?
    Is there any way to do this?
    And if i want to load the Oracle tables offline using "Generate Offline Data Move Scripts" option in sql developer then how do i do it?
    I tried using the option "Generate Data Move Scripts" right click option on converted object then the utility created few files on my local machine.
    I am not able to make my way fwd.
    Please help me.
    regards,
    Sushil

    Hi Sushil,
    I will try to address each of your questions:
    Q: "if my data in Access DB is updated everyday then how am i suppose to link this to newly created oracle tables? Is there any way to do this?"
    A: Depending on your reasons for maintaining the use of the MS Access database, you have two options.
    1. lf you are continuing to use the MS Access database because the application front end is MS Access forms & reports then you could just create linked tables to the newly migrated Oracle tables. Doing so will mean that any data modified via the frond end forms & reports will be saved directly in the Oracle database.
    2. If you wish to continue saving data to the MS Access database, then transfer it to the Oracle database, then you can just use the "Migrate Data" option in Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench to carry out this task. You just need to ensure that you've an open connection to your migration repository, and have the converted model for the migrated database. You will then just transfer the data online, like you have already done.
    Q: "And if i want to load the Oracle tables offline using "Generate Offline Data Move Scripts" option in sql developer then how do i do it?"
    A: To migrate your MS Access data offline, you need to do the following:
    1. Run the Exporter tool for MS Access, and select the "Export for Oracle SQL Developer" option. On the second screen of the tool, browse to the location of your MDB file, provide a location for the output directory and ensure you select the "Export Table Data" option before you click the "Export" button. This option generates a .DAT file for each table containing data in your MDB file.
    2. In Oracle SQL Developer, once you have carried out your migration, select the Migration > Script Generation > Generate Data Move Scripts menu item and select the Converted Model to generate the scripts for. An "MSAccess" folder will be generated in the path specified in the "Generate Offline Data Move Files" dialog.
    3. Navigate to the "MSAccess" folder generated in step 2, and this folder should contain a "oracle_ctl.bat" file, which
    for your converted model.
    4. Edit the "oracle_ctl.bat" file and update the script to replace <Username>/<Password> with the actual username/password combination required to connect to the migrated schema e.g. for a migrated Northwind database, this combination would be northwind/northwind. Save the changes to the file.
    5. Copy the .DAT files generated in step 1 to the /MSAccess/Oracle folder. The .ctl files refer to the .DAT file in order to load the data into Oracle using SQL*Loader.
    6. Open each of the .ctl files and check the file name referenced on the 2nd line of the file e.g. infile '[Categories].null', where the file name is "Categories.null". The ".null" part must be updated to ".dat". This is a known issue and a fix for this will be available in a future release of the Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench. Save the changes to the .ctl files.
    7. Open up a Command Prompt & navigate to the /MSAccess folder, and run the "oracle_ctl.bat" file to load the data into the Oracle database tables. If you experience any issues during this process, check the output in the command prompt & try to resolve any reported issues. If you are unable to do so, please refer to the Migration Workbench forum - Database and Application Migrations If you cannot find a solution from the existing threads, please post a new thread, giving the full syntax of any reported error messages.
    I hope this helps.

    Hilary

  • Help needed to access Oracle from Applet.

    Please help. I have spent days reading info on the web and I simply cannot access to Oracle from an applet to work. Oracle is on a different IP than the Web Server. For my testing I am running the html directly from my local file system.
    Here are the steps I have taken:
    1. Create a key: "%JAVA_HOME%/bin/keytool" -genkey -alias MyAlias -keypass MyKPass -keystore C:\Keys.bin -storepass MySPass
    2. Sign my jar: "%JAVA_HOME%/bin/jarsigner" -keystore C:\Keys.bin -storepass MySPass -keypass MyKPass -signedjar myjar-signed.jar myjar.jar MyAlias
    3. Sign Oracle's Jar: "%JAVA_HOME%/bin/jarsigner" -keystore C:\Keys.bin -storepass MySPass -keypass MyKPass -signedjar ojdbc14-signed.jar ojdbc14.jar MyAlias
    4. Applet Tag (at this time I have the two jars in the same folder as the HTML and JS files):
        <applet id="MyApp"
      codebase=""
      archive="myjar-signed.jar,ojdbc14-signed.jar"
      code="com/company/applets/Test.class"
      mayscript
      width="50" height="50">
        </applet>5. Javascript:
      document.observe("dom:loaded", function() {
      alert("Applet: " + $('MyApp').getVersion());
      $('MyApp').getConnection(url, user, pswd);
      alert("Applet: " + $('MyApp').getVersion() + "Got Connection.");
      $('MyApp').testConnection();
      alert("Applet: " + $('MyApp').getVersion() + "Connection Tested.");
    });Execution:
    1. The applet loads, The browser asks if I want to trust it, I say yes.
    2. The '$('MyApp').getVersion()' works.
    3. The '$('MyApp').getConnection(url, user, pswd);' fails. Java Code:
      public void getConnection(String url, String user, String pswd)
          throws Exception {
        try {
          System.out.println("Driver...");
          DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
          System.out.println("Connection...");
          _conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url, user, pswd);
          ...The driver registers, but the getConnection fails with a security error.
    After much reading, I used policytool to update the policy file. It added:
    keystore "file:/C:/Keys.bin", "jks";
    grant signedBy "MyAlias" {
      permission java.security.AllPermission;
    };This did not make any difference. Both IE and FF get the same error.
    The JRE being used is 1.6.0_14.
    Any help solving this would be MUCH appreciated.
    Thanks.

    I have simplified the problem, and now it has nothing to do with Oracle. It is a certificate/signing problem.
    Here are the steps I took to set the test up:
    Certificate:
    "%JAVA_HOME%/bin/keytool" -genkey -storepass MyStorePswd -keyalg RSA -alias MyRsa -dname "CN=Company.com, OU=IT, O=Company Inc, L=Atlanta, ST=Georgia, C=US, DC=mailexpress, DC=com" -validity 999
    "%JAVA_HOME%/bin/keytool" -selfcert -storepass MyStorePswd -alias MyRsa -validity 999
    "%JAVA_HOME%/bin/keytool" -exportcert -storepass MyStorePswd -alias MyRsa -rfc -file MyRsa.cer
    "%JAVA_HOME%/bin/keytool" -importcert -keystore "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib\security\cacerts." -storepass changeit -alias MyRsa -file MyRsa.cer
    Jar Signing:
    "%JAVA_HOME%/bin/jarsigner" -storepass MyStorePswd -keypass MyStorePswd -signedjar Text-Project-signed.jar Text-Project.jar MyRsa
    "%JAVA_HOME%/bin/jarsigner" -verify Text-Project-signed.jar
    Result: jar verified.
    HTML:
        <applet id="MyApp"
                codebase="file:/c:/projects/Text-Project/js/Memory"
                archive="Text-Project.jar"           <== unsigned test  OR
                archive="Text-Project-signed.jar"    <== signed   test
                code="com/company/applets/MemTest.class"
                mayscript
                width="50" height="50">
        </applet>
    JavaScript:
    document.observe("dom:loaded", function() {
      alert("Applet: " + $('MyApp').checkSecurity());
    Function in the Applet:
      public String checkSecurity() {
        System.out.println("Security Check...");
        try {
          AccessController.checkPermission(new FilePermission("MemTest.js", "read"));

        } catch (Exception e) {
          e.printStackTrace();
          return e.getMessage();
        return "Security Checked OK";
      }Results (Internet Explorer):

    (as expected)
    2. Unsigned JAR, Policy = permission java.security.AllPermission:

    Result = java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission MemTest.js read)

    Something is wrong with the certificate or signing process. Any ideas ?
    Thanks.

  • How to Insert data in oracle from Ms access

    Gusy
    i have developed software in oracle & write now there is a requirement to get ms access data & insert in oracle table,so how can it possible through JDBC Driver.\
    thanks in advance.

    Is this a one time push? Or is the requirement really to have your software periodically connect to a "desktop" application database (access) to pull data from?
    If it is a one time push, you can create an odbc connection (in access) to your oracle database to push the data there.
    http://wiki.oracle.com/page/ODBC
    Or, you could create csv files from the access data and then use sqlldr or an Oracle external table to load the data.
    But, since this is a Oracle Java forum and you really need to connect to Access from Java you will need to get a jdbc-odbc bridge:
    http://java.sun.com/products/jdbc/faq.html#5 (notice the fancy Oracle icon on the Java site)
    >
    5. How can I use the JDBC API to access a desktop database like Microsoft Access over the network?
    Most desktop databases currently require a JDBC solution that uses ODBC underneath. This is because the vendors of these database products haven't implemented all-Java JDBC drivers.
    The best approach is to use a commercial JDBC driver that supports ODBC and the database you want to use. See the JDBC drivers page for a list of available JDBC drivers.
    The JDBC-ODBC bridge from Sun's Java Software does not provide network access to desktop databases by itself. The JDBC-ODBC bridge loads ODBC as a local DLL, and typical ODBC drivers for desktop databases like Access aren't networked. The JDBC-ODBC bridge can be used together with the RMI-JDBC bridge, however, to access a desktop database like Access over the net. This RMI-JDBC-ODBC solution is free.

    I think you'd need to contact Oracle support to get access to older versions of the driver.
    Since 8.0.5 isn't supported any longer, however, is it possible for you to update your Oracle client to one of the supported releases-- 8.1.7 or 9i?

    Say that you will use perl's DBI interface and DBD::Oracle, then
    you will still need to install Oracle on your linux box for the
    seek of compiling and installing DBD::Oracle on linux.
    Once you have DBI and DBD::Oracle installed, you may access any
    other oracle installations whethere local or remote.
    I see this as the simplest way, but I may well be wrong.
