Accessing custom pacman repo through SSH

Hi,
I have created a local custom repository with
repo-add
on a server accessible only through SSH.
Is there a way to configure the clients'
/etc/pacman.conf
to access the files through SSH? I think pacman uses curl as its backend, so it would be technically possible to do this.

Systemd access to /dev when logged in through ssh

I have user "X" logged in through SLIM and proper permissions to /dev devices are granted. When I log in as the same user "X" through SSH, I can't access /dev devices.
This prevents me from running emulators and sound applications through SSH, which is a PITA since the machine in question is a HTPC dedicated to running XBMC.
Any way to grant same permissions to SSH users as X sessions?

I've been doing some digging on this, apparently display managers make sure the logged in session gets a "seat" from systemd. As long as you have a logged in X session, SSH sessions will also inherit the permissions from that seat.

Editing and sharing custom metadata/keywords through Adobe Drive in Adobe Bridge

I am part of a four-person video production unit operating within a local governmental entity. We are currently using four licenses of Adobe Master Collection CS5, and are about to get access to dedicated SAN storage.
We would like each user to have the ability to assign specific keywords to any given video clip (or remove keywords from clips) within Adobe Bridge, and have the three other users see the same results. I've noticed that Bridge alone will allow for keywords to be added or removed, but this list is specific to each user. Importing one list into other users' profiles is a start, but would no longer work, once keywords are added or taken away.
The overview page for Adobe Drive 3 says that it, "allows users to edit and view custom metadata/properties through Adobe Drive in Adobe Bridge," but I haven't found any explanation in either the website, forums, or user's guides that delves any farther into this area. If we incorporate Adobe Drive/Bridge into our workflow, will we be able to share/sync keywords between users? Is there some other (affordable) solution that would let us do this?

Thanks for sharing your case.
The keywords you mentioned is XMP metadata, if all your digital assets are managed by ADEP CQ DAM service, you can use AD3 with built-in ADEP connector to communicate with the DAM server, then, I think it can meet your requirement, it means, the keywords can be set by one user through metadata panel in Bridge, and can be viewed by other users.
for custom properites, it's different from XMP metadata, it refers to the properties of one asset which is managed by a Content Management service. users have to use another UI to edit/view them in Br after AD3 is installed.
here are some requirements to use it.
1) CMIS 1.0 compiliant server should be used to manage all your digital assets
2) use the built-in CMIS with AD3 to connect to the server.
if other kind of servers are used, you should develope a custom connector through AD SDK to enable custom properties feature as well as some other handler required by AD SDK

I have a query regarding WebDynpro accessing custom-build applications deployed on web-logic server and J2EE servers.Following is the scenario.
There is central authentication mechanism deployed in J2EE server. GUI users (in EP) have to be authenticated through this application(EJB).
In EP, this remote call would happen through the WebDynpro. After successful authentication, calls will be sent to another Weblogic server.

Webdynpro and EP are almost same except coustomisation coming to picture in EP, why do you want webdynpro to EP to web logic, Just crate your UI in dynpro convert them to Iviews in EP through EP call wenlogic server/J2ee server i hope there will not be any hindarence to scalability or perfomance.
when it comes to remote calls after all your going to call weblogic through EP but dynpro UI will be as an Iview

1)While compiling the custom forms through Form builder the forms compile successfully & opens also but doesn't close.All other form than custom form close completely.How was this form created? Did you use the TEMPLATE.fmb file to create this custom form?

Resetting the password to access customer info pdfs

Our online shop is having problems with the password originally set up for them to access customer info pdfs. We didn't change this. Who should I contact?

Screen Sharing.app fails through ssh tunnel with "You cannot control your own screen"

I need to control a remote Mac mini running 10.7 through an ssh tunnel. I've set up ssh with -L for the appropriate ports, and bound my local ports 5900 and 5800 through this.
When I connect to 127.0.0.1 with Screen Sharing.app on my macbook pro which runs 10.8.4, it says "You cannot control your own screen" however, screen sharing is not enabled locally on my machine, I'm trying to access a remote machine.
I tried something else. I created an alias IP of 127.0.0.2 on lo0, and tried again, and got the same thing, so it's doing an ifconfig and looking through all the IPs to see if the IP address of what I'm trying to connect to is bound locally, which defeats the purpose of tunneling through SSH. I don't wish to setup a VPN.
How do I let the Screen Sharing.app know that I'm not trying to connect to my own machine and it should skip this check.
I've also tried with another app, Chicken of the VNC, and that almost works. It connects and shows a login screen desktop to the target machine, but I'm unable to click on any of the account icons displayed in order to login, and all key presses such as tab, space, and enter are ignored.
When at the location (on the same vlan as the target machine) I'm able to remote into it just fine with screen sharing.app, but Chicken of the VNC has the same issue of showing a login screen, but not allowing logins to it.

Your ssh command should look something like:
ssh -L 22590:localhost:5900 remove.mac.system.address
Then you connect using
Finder -> Go -> Connect to server -> vnc://localhost:22590
Have you been doing anything close to that?

SMB through SSH tunnel

I'm having trouble setting up samba access over an SSH tunnel. If I forward port 139 on my machine to port 139 on the server, like so,
ssh -L 139:localhost:139 user@server
and then connect from the finder with Go -> Connect to Server and enter "smb://localhost/username" it works great. Moreover, if I do "smbclient -L localhost -U username" I get (with names changed to protect the innocent):

That's great. However, I need to in fact be running a samba server on my local machine as well as accessing a remote one --- therefore, I can't forward from port 139 on my local machine because it conflicts with my local samba server (actually, I can, and it appears to be a crapshoot whether my local server or the remote server through SSH gets the connection. Weird. But that's a different story).
So, I try and forward from a different port, say 52187. So I create my tunnel:
ssh -L 52187:localhost:139 username@server
Now I try and connect through the Finder. I get error:
"The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "smb://localhost:52187/username" could not be read or written. (Error code -36)."
Hmm. Let's try and diagnose from the console. I type:
smbclient -L localhost -U username -p 52187
It connects to the remote server, but only partially. I get the following output:

Weird. Note that this is with my local Samba server not running. Now, if I try and run smbclient with the local server running, I get a different error:

Weirder --- so I look in the log files for the local Samba server (/var/log/samba/log.smbd). There are two new messages from the exact time when I tried to contact my remote server:

Note that 'username' is not a user on my local machine. I'm not sure what would happen if it were.
What looks like is happening to me is that the samba client is in fact contacting the server on the port that I give, but then trying to initiate some other communication (authentication?) on the default port, 139. That's why when I'm forwarding from port 139 it all works fine. That's also why I get a different error message and stuff in my local logs when the local server is running --- the samba client is contacting the remote server for part of the transaction and the local server for another part. When the local server isn't running, it just can't contact anyone and gets confused.
The question is, how can I make the samba client consistently use the port I tell it to use? Am I missing something?

PS -- why is it that I can have both a local samba server running on port 139 and an SSH tunnel that forwards from that port at the same time? Does it have to do with what interfaces their bound on? As in, the SSH server is only bound on the loopback interface, while the Samba server is only bound on my ethernet card? That's the only explanation I could think of.

well, I'm not doing a smb mount and have never tried to do an smb mount; only an afp mount. I'm very fortunate that I have Macs at work and home, and all authorized users to my computer are Mac users.
I'm running OS 10.4.9 and have been doing this (afp over ssh) throughout all iterations of 10.4.x and most if not all iterations of 10.2.x up through 10.2.8 on two older computers, a 2001 Quicksilver and a 2002 Quicksilver as the servers, and using them as the clients as well along with two Powerbook G4s as clients. Also, my kids (if you call ages 20-26 "kids") afp mount via ssh tunneling as well, from an iBookG4 and iMac G5s, also running 10.4.9.
I gotta ask a dumb question or two or three or four:
• When you ssh, obviously you have the ssh port (only) forwarded through your router and/or modem at home, right?
• Do you have your Mac's (the one you are trying to use as the server) firewall turned on or off? And if on, what ports/services do you have turned on in Sys Prefs Sharing? (and if off, what services are turned on?) Windows Sharing is on?
• If you turned on personal file sharing in your "server" Mac, do you have another Mac that you could try to ssh into, tunneling port XXXX:localhost:548 then from Finder, ⌘k to localhost:XXXX, just to see if that at least works?
• highly unlikely to make a difference, but when you ⌘k to smb://localhost:XXXX, does it help to leave off the "/username" that you had reported in preious posts as appending onto the servername?
One last-minute comment/suggestion: There is a shareware/donationware program called sharepoints that looks pretty cool; you can check that your mount points on your server are indeed smb shared or not (as a side note, if you are so inclined, you can create additional mount points other than just users' home directories, too). I am totally clueless as to how one, from the unix command line or maybe from the NetInfo manager, might do this, so if you would be treading new ground here yourself in this regard, this program might be of some value to you.

Remotely Factory Reset AP-1231G through SSH

Hello all,
Is there any possible way to factory reset an AIR-AP1231G-A-K9 that was once attached to a WLC via SSH? I dont have physical access to it and the old WLC has long been decommissioned. I have tried the clear command but since it is in CAPWAP mode that command has been disabled. I know I can press and hold the mode button and reset it that way but I need to know if its possible through SSH to be reset. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have two that are in need of being reset in order to connect to the new WLC.

Not able to change normal login password through ssh root login remotely

You cannot "ssh passwd username" remotely, for one thing. Remember, the passwd command is going to ask for input from the terminal.
Also, look into the pfexec man page because you might need to change roles in order to change the password on the remote system.

Can I access my other email through iCloud

Is there any way to access my other email accounts through iCloud?
Example: My work email is through cox mail. (it is [email protected] I never really used my mobileme email (that is now in iCloud).
For iCloud to be useful for me, I would want to access my work email through it when I am on the road. Is it possible to add other email accounts?
Of course, I can access my cox mail through their own website - but it sure would be useful to access my calendar, mail, etc all in one place (the cloud). Isnt that the point?
I have heard of people setting up - for example - a gmail account but have it actually LOOK like their work email to the receiver. If I cannot just add my other accounts to iCloud, is this a possibility?

thats too bad. Oh well. So far I dont see a big use for iCloud. I much prefer the older MobileMe.
I could park my iWeb websites of my children - with iCloud that disappeared. Kinda defeats the user-friendliness of iWeb. One click publishing through mobileme account was a great idea.
One day there will be one spot where I can park all my stuff. I guess iCloud is not that place. Hopefully this is just the first step and it will get fine tuned and expanded in the future.
