Accessing Multiple Project Files in Robohelp

In Robohelp 8, do I have the ability to open multiple projects rather than one?
Thanks

Or you can double click the XPJ file in Windows Explorer. The project will always open in a new instance of RoboHelp.

  • Can I link multiple project files together?

I'd like to link multiple project files together so that they will play one after another. Can you do that in Captivate?

    Hey Leslie,
Yes, you can create several projects in Captivate and publish them as Flash (SWF) format. There is an aggregator project in Captivate where in you can combine all these published projects (SWF) into a single output.
Do you have any other requirement as well?

  • Create multiple project files or one?

I am working on a feature length film which has 48 sequences with subclips and rough cuts created in Prelude. Now I want to start bringing this footage into Premiere for editing, but I am wondering is there benefits or drawbacks to creating a Premiere project for each sequence then merging them all together in one master project file after finished working on each sequence?
I'm trying to determine which way would be the easiest to keep things organized and not so overwhelming. Has anyone done this before?

I never worked on a long project...but for a short test of cs3 , using dailies as source material, I came up with a process that worked pretty good for me.. and it might help you a little bit...dont know.
    it's kinda complicated.
this example is one part of a scene...well, 2 scenes really, but I didn't have the dailies for all the material shot... so it's hard to explain... mostly I had all of the first part of the stuff you see here and then only part of the rooftop stuff...
The rooftop stuff I made b&w with a overlay to pretend it was a cheap video cop camera..and used static to make cuts cause I saw crew, other cameras, etc... and had to cut.
was basically 3 alexa on process trailer and 4 alexa on roof.
This is what I did for scenes ( basically for the beginning of working on the overall material and then whittling it down to usable stuff )
I dont use source monitor at all.. in out points.. I put everything in the primary timeline levels..and just cut out the slates and dumb stuff nobody would ever use...cut / delete .
Then I start scrubbing through and pick out what I think will tell the story and move it UP from the original levels. That gives me a quick easy way to see what was " used" as opposed to what the original stuff ( bulk ) is.
I don't rename the files or bins as I do that... I create a 'new' sequence and move all the raised stuff into THAT sequence ...and butt it together ...which is now becoming a rough cut...the new sequence ( not what you see here above which is the first bulk of what I got to work with ).  But I dont do that new sequence on a single vid layer cause I do my own fades and stuff on multiple layers and want that option... so I butt them together on several vid levels ( like 3 or whatever in this case )....
I want the option of overlaying stuff and doing my own cross dissolves at my own 'pace' if need be....not the auto stuff and then the playing with corrections and extra frames etc ...
As I scrub through the 1st roughcut I notice " Oh, I just cut from one person talking to another person talking, but the background was moving in one take, and not in the next "... which looks stupid.. so I have to go BACK to the original stuff and find a portion of a camera angle and take ...that gives me a moving background ....
This starts to get really retarded...cause now you're making cuts you don't really WANT to make, but HAVE to make....
Since I was using dailies and you're using prelude I guess there's a big difference. But I might use a part of one take and part of another take of the same scene and the same "coverage" if with multiple cameras ... so I don't think I would like splitting stuff up onto takes that are good or bad ...unless obviously the whole thing is bad from the get go... like someone fell down or their wig flew off their head or something...

  • How can I access my project files without iTunes on an iPad 2 (non-jB)

The other day while I was using the device, it just reset itself and decided I needed to activate it again. When I try to do this I get a message saying the "device is not part of the developer program..." and I have tried removing it's UDID from the provisioning portal at the dev website to no avail. All I really care about is retrieving my GB project files from the device, as I can most likely get over the fact that my other content might go missing. The device shows up on the left side-pane under devices in itunes, but when I click on the Apps tab, I cannot get the box that would normally be there allowing me to transfer files to and from the device for supported apps. I have searched tediously on this topic and frustratingly found no information that has helped. I also opened a case with apple and they gave me some BS suggested light reading (http://bit.ly/uHbxFs) that had nothing to do with the issue. Please Halp!

you must run the official iOS5 version, no developer version which likely is a beta . Use itunes 10.5 , connect your device, let it make the backups and then hit the "restore" button in itunes. This will download and install the one and only supported OS for your device.
Once you have this on it, you can install all apps, including garageband.

  • AE to Media Encoder slows when rendering multiple project files

So I'm trying to load in a bunch of compositions from various project files into Media encoder to render over night. I've noticed the first couple of projects render pretty quickly then it starts to bog down a lot. I mean very slowly chugging along through the renders. Is this a memory cache issue??? Any way to fix this? Is there a way I can clear the memory after a render finishes and before it moves on to the next?

See the known issue here about Adobe Media Encoder taking a very long time to open the first time on Mac OSX v10.10 (Yosemite):
After Effects with Mac OSX v10.10 (Yosemite)
Based on this, my suggestion is to open Adobe Media Encoder once, give it plenty of time to start because of this Mac OS bug, and then try again. My guess is that it'll work fine after that.

  • Robohelp update 8.01 and 8.02 - cannot access my project files.

I installed the updates for version 8.01 today; however during the install the system asked to unistall prior version and I said yes.  OMG!!!
Know that I have the updates for 8.01 and 8.02, when I try to open my files, I get an error message stating the below:
The projects are from a newer version of the program.  This project is no longer compatible with this version, please make sure you have
the newest version installed.   Someone please help, I need to access my files again.
    Thanks,
    Wendy

You did reinstall AND add the patches? If you have, then delete the CPD file and reopen you project.
Create a zipped copy of the project before you do that. If you have problems, you are no worse off. It should be OK.

  • Any way to prevent dupes in Premiere Project file?

Due to working with both PluralEyes as well as multiple editors on the same project, I deal with importing a lot of XML and PRPROJ files into existing project files that I've worked with.
This, on a large scale, becomes untenable because every time I import another editor's work or a synced sequence, I get duplicates of all my media in the project. I'm trying to figure out if there any way to have Premiere check to see if the media is already imported, and reference that media in the imported sequence? If not, I will just keep getting larger and larger project files with multiple references to the same media, because both me and my other editors are working with the same media, but for different sequences.
As far as I can tell, when you import an XML, or even a sequence from another Premiere project, it creates new master clips for every clip used in the imported sequence. It does not recognize that you may already have a master clip that you're using in another sequence that is referring to the same media.
So if you want to keep both sequences in your project, you need to keep both master clips. If you delete a master clip from your bin, it will not stay in the sequence(s) that refer to it, it will get cut out, leaving a big steaming crater where it once was. Even if the sequence is not currently open. This is one of the things I loved about FCP7. You could delete every single one of your master clips and your sequence would be totally unaffected. You could even recreate the master clips by dragging them from your sequence to the bin.
I think if there really is no way to manage these duplicates, this is a HUGE problem for professionals who are working in environments with multiple editors. This isn't just a "well, learn how to deal with a new editing system" - this is actually a deal-breaker; and actually the only one that I see REALLY preventing Premiere from being the go-to choice for larger post houses. This problem becomes so big so fast that it makes true collaborative editing downright impossible. In my office we might have three people on a project, all editing and revising segments and passing them back and forth. On FCP7 this was easy as pie - we'd just cut and paste between project files and use basic versioning best practices. In Premiere, our project files quickly become nightmares and work is often inadvertently deleted or lost.
    I would like to see:
    - Smart media handling when importing sequences and projects. Premiere should look at the filenames and file location and attempt to relink any duplicate media. If it stumbles, it should ask for help like FCP.
    - A media consolidation inspection feature. I'd love to see an option for inspecting your project for duplicate media references. When found, Premiere should automatically consolidate.
    - Streamlined sequence exporting. You should be able to export a single sequence. I know there's some version of this in Project Manager, but we all know it should be easier than this!
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

    *******Enhancement / FMR*********
Brief title for your desired feature:
Link Master Clips to media on drives, not to sequences.
How would you like the feature to work?
"The selection you are deleting contains clip references in one or more sequences. If you continue these clip references will all be deleted. Do you want to continue?"  In short, I never want to see this warning again. I *need* to be able to delete master clips from my project without having media deleted out of sequences.
Why is this feature important to you?
Editors need to stay organized from the beginning. Professional editors don’t edit birthday parties; we often have large quantities of different kinds of media, need to know where it is, need to access it quickly, and don’t need unnecessary things in the way.
Organization exists in one place: the project panel.  The less that’s in the project panel, the smaller the project file size is, the faster the project file opens, closes and saves, but most importantly: the easier it is to find what you need, fast.
The reasons for working in multiple project files are endless. When you import a seq from another project, you also get the clips used in it. Often times these clips are already present in the project, which is why you now include a “don’t allow duplicates” checkbox in your import dialogue box (which btw doesn’t work when we’re working with Merged Clips painstakingly built in other project files).
While you might fix that Merged Clips bug, I still don’t know why you won’t just let me clean stuff up myself. Why are you trying to save me from myself? I know where my media is and Premiere knows where my media is: on my drive.
A professional editing program should not try to save people from themselves. It’s why I left FCP for you. You have a great, powerful suite of programs (that I’d pay a lot more for than I do now btw)… but I need to stay organized, not be unnecessarily prevented from doing so.
Please listen to us and make this fix.

  • HT4591 I have a project that I made in Motion 5.0.1.  I have updated to Motion 5.0.4 since, but the project will no longer open.  Is there a way to revert to Motion Version 5.0.1 at least temporarily so that I can access the project and add a few polishes

It seems that the 5.0.1 project file has become corrupt.  It was generated on an older MacBook Pro Model (2008) and occasionally acted unpredictably.  We have since upgraded hardware and are working on a much more robust machine, but we need to access this project file to make some final tweaks for the client.
Is there a way I could revert to Motion 5.0.1 and access this file for the final tweaks?  After these, that project will be laid to rest and I will no longer need an older version of the program.
Thank you so much for your help guys!  We love Motion.  This is the only issue we've ever run into with the program.
    Best,
    Konstantin

I had a problem with a 5.0.3 project that would cause 5.0.4 to crash. Apple asked for a copy of the project and later told me it was because there were some empty text layers. Apple is aware of the issue and is working on a fix.
In my case I still had 5.0.3 on another Mac and could clean up the project. If empty text layers might be the problem, do you know someone with an earlier version who could open it and remove the empty layers? I'd be willing to give it a try if you'd want to send me the project.

  • Multiple Projects on Same Server

Today was the first time I ever published 2 separate projects
to the same server (thank goodness I used the DEV Server). They are
totally separate projects - nothing the same and did not use
anything from one project in the other. At the 4pm meeting to show
the new project we noticed glossary terms, TOC topics, and even
topic pages from my original project (2005) were showing up in this
new project (less than 10 topics)
My server guy does not know why or what happened. I have done
some research and cannot find the answer either (grange.org and
Adobe Knowledgebase). I remember hearing something about setting
    "default" project.
    Any ideas?
    Cindi

    Hi Cindi
Are you using RoboHelp Server and WebHelp or FlashHelp Pro
output? If so, I believe there is a setting you may be able to
change using the Configuration Manager that determines whether all
projects published to the RoboHelp Server are automatically merged
or not. It sounds as if you are wanting to publish multiple
projects to the RoboHelp Server, yet treat them as individual
    projects without merging.

  • Merge project files

I have multiple project files (whice I have spent considerable time editing with freeze frames and annations) and now I realize I want to create one DVD of these projects with scenes. Is there a way to merge existing multiple projects into one project and then create a DVD or is thare a way to create a DVD with Scenes where each project is one of the scene choices.  Please there must me a way.

This FAQ Entry will help you merge your separate Projects.
When working with "intermediate files," I like to use either the Lagarith Lossless CODEC (free download), or the UT Lossless CODEC. I know that Lagarith Lossless works in PrE, and would assume that UT would, as well. Both will handle HD footage.
    Good luck,

  • After Effects project file size max?

    Hey guys,
Anyone know if there's a critical mass with an after effects project file?  For example, I have a 6 minute film I'm working on with hundreds of precomps.  Is there a time where there's too much going on in the project file?  I'm versioning like crazy, but I was just wondering.

Not that I'm aware of. I think the largest one I've ever made was around 98mb. At that point, the file became way too cumbersome, and I ended up splitting up the project more efficiently into multiple project files. There may be a limit, but if not, then it would probably be any file size limits imposed by your OS.

  • Robohelp 9.0.2 Access Project Files from Network Drive or SharePoint

    Hello everyone!
I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for the following scenario:
Mutliple content authors traveling around the world need to access centrally place project files.
I know using a network drive is a bad practice, and I've been testing it with little luck today. Has anyone used SharePoint to house projects in the past?
What is the best way to share these projects on a network? It's becoming very necessary for us to do so, and I was wondering if anyone has had any success.
    Ideas anyone?
    Thanks!
    Jerry

    Hi Jerry
Assuming SharePoint can function as a Source Control system it should work. Note that Source Control systems perform a variety of tasks. Librarian, Traffic Cop, etc.
With any Source Control system the files are centrally located. They have to be, no? But in my experience, you configure each of them in a similar manner. You designate a "Working Folder" that is on your local C drive. As you check files out and work on them, they are copied to your working folder. When you check them in, they are copied back to the server and updated. So you are working locally but the content is centrally located. Assuming SharePoint works that way, it should work for you.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Upgrade to Robohelp 9: Your project file cpd is corrupt

    Hi
I have installed Robohelp 9, and is now trying to upgrade a version 6 project to version 9. When I press upgrade in Robohelp, I keep getting the error "Your project file ...cpd is corrupt and cannot be opened". I have tried to delete it and open the xpj-file again, but there is no difference. Then I found something about a file called rhvariable.apj. I copied this file from a project that I already have upgraded and which were fine. But this gave no solution either. I also read something about deleting the cpd-file and the xpj-file and then edit the hhp-file. The problem is that my corrupt projects - I have 3 at this point - have no hhp-file. So there is a difference.
Could anyone help me? I have search and search
    Best regards

In case this helps anyone I will share my experience...
I've been waiting ages for the purchase order to go through for my new license for the latest version of RoboHelp.  My Help project was in version 6.  I had on one PC a trial download of RH 8 and on my other PC a trial download of version 9.  (I work in IT hence the multiple PCs)
So, just a couple of days ago, I tried bringing in my v.6 project into v.9.  I got the cpd file corrupt error and I tried deleting it several times.  I even tried re-copying it in, etc.  Nothing worked.  I was annoyed....so just to try something I opened up my trial v.8 and loaded in my old project and it upgraded fine with no problems.  I took this upgraded project and brought it into v.9 and, lo and behold, it worked!  (Both being trial versions and just yesterday I got my v. 9 license key and registered with no issues)
I am up and running and everything looks great and I've generated and started playing around with all of the new features I am unfamiliar with...having been stuck with v.6 for so long!
    Hope this helps someone....
    thanks,
    liz
