Accessing NTFS Master File Table

I am trying to read the NTFS Master File Table. Does anybody know how to access the NTFS Master File Table using Java?
Thank you!

Thanks anyhow. I am using Java on Windows platform and have searched everywhere.Yes, you would be using Windows - NTFS is a Windows fs.
You should find the information to do what you want at www.ntfs,com. Although, I doubt that Java can access the data. Some searching (yes, I see you already searched everywhere) may turn up some prewritten Windows code.

    You could try some data recover software, it should be able to copy the data off for you (as long as there are no physical problems with the HD). Recuva is free, Rstudio is also very good. You will need to have enough space available on another drive to restore the data to.
    Best of luck with it! :)

    First off I want to apologize if I sound inexperienced, this is my first time posting on Spiceworks and I have only been in IT for a year as an intern.So here is my problem, I have an external hard-drive that I use as a secondary drive for storage. The other day I went to get something off it when I noticed that I could not access the drive through file explorer. It came up with an error saying "Data error (cycle redundancy check).".
    I proceeded to google the problem since I have not seen the error before and found many forums telling me to run a check disk on the drive with /f to fix the errors on the disk. I run the chkdsk and I get the following error"Corrupt master file table. Windows will attempt to recover master file table from disk. Windows cannot recover master file table. CHKDSK aborted".

  • Slightly OT: Master File Table Structure....

    Dear all,
    I'm trying to find out the exact layout of an MFT record.
    I understand the record structure:

    However, I would like to know what every single byte in the record does..... Any links would be much appreciated??

    OT ... Linux ... this is a Java Programming forum. So
    you better find more relevant forums on the net.
    See

    MFT (Master File Table) is part of NTFS, which is the file system found in the Windows NT family. If you are going to criticise my decision to post, please research your argument before hand!!
    It may not be clear to you, that in order to develop applications it is necessary to first understand the area in which you are developing for!! It is impossible to develop a Java application which relates to the MFT if you do not first undertand its structure byte-by-byte!!
    You will also note the subject heading "Slightly OT"..... this is because it is not purely a Java problem! It is a research problem, which leads to a Java problem.

  • How to access NTFS entries using Java

    I want to access and read the attributes of a file stored in the Master File Table of NTFS.
    How should I do it using Java. Is using native code and using JNI the only way or is there a package in Java that supports this?
    Thanks

    WebSphere Application Server has a bunch environmental variables such as log locations. These are held at the "server", "node", and "cell" level.
    To access them, you have to get the right context. Something like this, I believe...
    InitialContext initialContext = new InitialContext();
    initialContext.lookup("foo:bar/baz/blah"); //correct context hereGo to the IBM website for WAS and do a search on namespace bindings. That should give you some more information.
    Good luck.

    New user here.  Trying to import iPhoto 9.4.2 libraries into Aperture 3.4.3 as referenced files. When accessing File>Import>Library, it finds the iPhoto library just fine, but then imports it as Master files. No option that I can find to leave the photos in place on the file system.  All the literature says their should be an option to choose, but I never get that option.  What?

    All the literature says their should be an option to choose, but I never get that option.
    That has been true for the previous Aperture versions. Now Aperture simply treats the original image files exactly as they are in the imported library. Referenced images will stay referenced, managed will be imported as managed. But you can always relocate the imported managed images afterwards by using "File > Relocate".

    there are options aplenty for this.  First off, do you have the database connectivity toolset?  If so, You can do it from there.  Following the examples in labview. Or you can do a search for ADO or access database, and find plenty of VIs that can do this.

  • Help - Ext HDD Referenced Master Files Gets Connected to Wrong Drive

    I just bought Aperture and upgraded to 1.5 and am a new user. Prior to the external/open library, I would not have bought Aperture because I need to access my images on both Macs and PCs.
    I spent all day yesterday creating project structure, albums and importing images into Aperture. This morning when I launched Aperture, the referenced masters on external HD were somehow now connected to my Boot Camp WindowsXP partition. When this occurred, I did not have my external drive connected.
    Naturally, I connected the external drive and relaunched Aperture but all the images were referenced to my XP partition with directory path that belongs to my external HD (i.e., path is XP/Photo Lib/2006/..., instead of what it should be LACIE/photo Lib/2006/...) I was able to reconnect by selecting one image and reconnecting all function. Easy enough but troublesome.
    Has anyone else experienced something like this? Is this a bug on 1.5? Am I doing something wrong - I could not find any setting that would cause this behavior.
    I am using MBP so this is bit of a big deal for me....
    Thanks in advance.
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)   XP Pro

    My comment was too generalized - sorry.
    Actually, the version file I was referring to is a version that gets created when an external editor is used. As you know, Aperture can create either TIF or PDS file to be used by an external editor. Once it is saved in the external editor, the preview is updated and the version is stored in Aperture Library. Unless I save the file using "Save As" into a different location manually, the edited file is in Aperture Lib. I will have to export the file into the directory of choice.
    If Aperture saved the external edited file into where the master file is located, then Photoshop'd or any other editor modified files can be accessed directly without having to go through the extra steps

  • Sample Applescript: scraping values from numbers files into a master file

    Hi, I have programming experience in c and other languages, but am new to applescript and so am learning a lot from this forum.
    My goal is to make a timesheet system for my Dad (for a bday present) where every time he helps a client, he fills out a newly created numbers file - and after a week or so, he can run a script that scrapes certain values from each numbers file and places it into a master numbers file. Then saving and closing the file.
    Vince, it sounds like you've written a script that does this feature of looping through all numbers files in a folder and putting select values from each numbers file into a master numbers file (after clearing the previous values of the master file).
    Specifically, I'm looking for a sample script that opens up a numbers file, clears its table, then fills this table by scraping one value from a particular cell in every numbers file in a folder.
    If anyone has a similar script they would be willing to post or email to me, for me to use as a foundation and to learn from, I would be very very very grateful. My email is forman.jq at gmail dot com.

    I guess that this script may be a good starting point.

  • Access DB (& .ldb file) does not close after crystal reports

    Post Author: mgold
    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
    Access DB (& .ldb file) does not close after crystal reports
    Hi! We have a VB application using Crystal Reports 6 that has worked successfully on hundreds of systems for over 10 years. Now, on one network, the application and access database does not close. It seems to hang on the &#91;.Close&#93; command.
    When we open the application an peruse the screens without opening up a report (using crystal reports), the application and access db closes fine. But as soon as we run a report and then close the report and try to close the application, the access db does not close. Many of the screens open the db and grab data from the access db, but it's only after running crystal reports that we have this problem. (Please see more information below.)
    Setup: Application and data (access 97 db) reside on a server in the same folder, but application shortcut is kicked off on client PC. Kicking off the shortcut on the client PC means that the image/process runs on the client PC (not on the server). In this problem case, the application shortcut is on a Windows XP Pro Version 2002 SP2 PC with the app & data on a Windows 2003 server. Users are local Admins on their PCs with "Full Control"over the directory and files on the server where the data (access 97 db) resides. This type of setup is typical and has worked without any problems for clients.
    The application is written in Visual Basic, using Crystal Reports 6 (using DAO). We close the recordset, set it to zero and then it hangs on closing the db (.Close command).
    A few key pieces of information:
    - The application closes fine if the app & data (access 97 db) are on a local PC. This includes closing fine if the application is run directly on the Windows 2003 server where the data is stored.
    - It worked on this client's network until sometime in the last few weeks.
    - One thing that changed is that the company is using VMWare on its servers. Not sure if they started using VMWare at the same time as it started failing. This may be unrelated. Possibly other things changed, but can't get any more information ... yet.
    - It works fine running the application from a Windows Vista PC with a user who is a domain admin.
    - The access db and application hang for about 10-20 minutes and then eventually closes. It appears that somehow
    Crystal Reports is keeping the db open, but I'm not sure why.The application doesn't quit and the database doesn't close even if I try to end the task with the Task Manager.
    - The Crystl32.ocx version being used is 8.0.0.4 (if that matters).
    - I copied 6 month old program files and database files to a test folder on the Windows 2003 server. It fails using these files that worked fine 6 months ago.
    Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated! If you know of another good place to post this, please let me know.
    Thanks!
    - Mark

    Crystal doesn't support tables in HTML interpretation.
    You can probably work your way around this by doing Replace() calls on the relevant tags.

  • Why don't my iphoto event names match up to my iphoto master file names?

    Yosemite 10.10
    iPhoto 9.6
    MacBook Pro 2009
    I recently downloaded Yosemite, which has slowed my laptop down significantly. This has prompted me to transfer all large files - photos, movies and music off my laptop and onto an external hard drive (in addition to my time machine backup hard drive).
    I was instructed (at the Apple Store) to open Finder then Pictures > iPhoto Library. Then to right click on the iPhoto Library folder and select 'show package contents', this reveals a large list of folders but I understand that the Masters folder is the one to care about with respect to back ups. When I open up Masters I can see 8 folders labelled 2007 - 2014. In each of these folders are other folders housing all the jpeg files.
    THE PROBLEM:
    For some reason in the 2007-2009 folders the Master file names match up to the Event names in iPhoto. This is great and makes sense! However, after 2009 everything gets really messed up in the Masters folder - despite my iPhoto Library being meticulously organised into Events that are all labelled. For example, when I open up the 2014 folder the path looks like this 2014 > 10 > 06 > 20141006-214510 > which then houses the jpeg images. It looks to me like these folders represent upload events as opposed to the Events that I organised them into in the front end of iPhoto. WHY!?!
    THE QUESTIONS:
    Why is this happening? And can I fix it so that it doesn't happen when I next import photos into iPhoto?
    Should I just stop using iPhoto?
    What happens if I change the names of the Master folders in the back end of iPhoto to reflect the Event names in the front end? Would it be better to just organise them on my hard drive?
    Thank you

    1. It's not a problem as you never ever access your photos in this way.
    2. If you want to back up your original photos you do this via the Export function: File -> Export
    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
    has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
    3. None of this saves space on your HD. To do that you need to move your Library from the HD to the external:
    Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    a. Quit iPhoto
    b. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    c. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    d. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
    4. That particular Apple Genius isn't.
    As to the specific questions:
    Why is this happening? And can I fix it so that it doesn't happen when I next import photos into iPhoto?
    It's happening as that is how iPhoto works and there is nothing ti fix. Exporting makes the issue redundant.
    Should I just stop using iPhoto?
    Why?
    What happens if I change the names of the Master folders in the back end of iPhoto to reflect the Event names in the front end?
    You'll corrupt the Library. And it's unnecessary.
    Would it be better to just organise them on my hard drive?
    No.

  • Button enable/disable in Master-Detail table

    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.3.0 and I have a page fragment (.jsff) which includes a Master-Detail table and the Master table has 3 buttons that get enabled/disabled based on the specific string within a column say, if the column has value, 'DRAFT', the buttons should be enabled. In all other cases, the buttons should be disabled.
    The above mentioned scenario works in cases where the table has more than one row in the table; but in two cases the buttons don't get enabled even though the column has 'DRAFT' as its value:
         1. when the table first loads with the data populated in the table; clicking on the first row doesn't trigger the buttons, clicking on any other row triggers the buttons
         2. when there is only one row in the table
    To resolve this, I tried looking at the logs for any specific information regarding the buttons getting enabled or disabled. I couldn't find info on setting up a breakpoint for the commandbutton and the disabled property which would enable me to determine whether it is being triggered as soon as the table gets populated or not.
    How can I get the buttons to work per my requirements? Also, can I set breakpoints for the button and/or evaluate disabled property's EL expression?
    Thanks in advance.

    Also, I changed the displayRow property for the table from "selected" to "first" but no luck either.

  • ORA-12705: Cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified

    Hi,
    I am using Oracle 10g Express, ojdbc14.jar , apache tomcat 5 server on Linux (Fedora 6).
    In CustDisp.JSP I have following code:
    <%
    try {
    Class.forName ("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver").newInstance();
    out.println("JDBC driver loaded.<br>");
    catch (ClassNotFoundException e) {
    %>
    error :<br>
    <%=e.toString() %>
    <%
    String sql = "SELECT custid, fname, lname FROM customers";
    try {
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:XE","myid", "mypassword");
    out.println("Connection made.<br><br>");
    Statement s = con.createStatement();
    ResultSet rs = s.executeQuery(sql);
    %>
    When Itry to access http://localhost:8080/jsps/CustDisp.jsp,I get following error:
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1 ORA-12705: Cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified.
    When I display enviorenment parameters in this JSP, I get follwing:
    JDBC driver loaded.
    Oracle Home = /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server

    Locale = en_US
    nls data directory : /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/nls/data
    I have checked permissions for nls data folder, they are :
    Owner: Oracle
    Folder Access: Create and delete files
    Group: Dba
    Folder Access: Access files
    Others
    Folder Access: Access files
    Execute: Allow executing file as program.
    I have written a java program and used same drivers,customers table and connection i.e
    Class.forName ("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver").newInstance();
    String sql = "SELECT custid, fname, lname FROM customers";
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:XE","myid", "mypassword");
    it works fine and displays customers.
    Only when I try to access my CustDisp.JSP, I get
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1 ORA-12705: Cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified. Error.
    Can some one please help me sorting out this problem?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Relevant code for CustDisp.JSP is given below:
    <%@ page session="false" %>
    <%@ page import="java.io.*" %>
    <%@ page import="java.util.*" %>
    <%@ page import="java.sql.*" %>
    <%@ page import="oracle.jdbc.*" %>

    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:XE","myid", "mypassword");
    out.println("Connection made.<br><br>");
    Statement s = con.createStatement();
    ResultSet rs = s.executeQuery(sql);
    %>
    Permissions for nls data folder
    /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/nls/data/
    are :

    Group: tomcat
    Folder Access: Access files

    In CustDisp.JSP I have following code which accesses ojdbc14.jar
    // Check access to the nls data files.
    cfile = "";
    try{
    File myfile = new File("/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/nls/data/ojdbc14.jar");
    if (myfile.exists() == true){
    cfile="ojdbc14.jar exists in the data directory. Its length is "+ myfile.length()+" It can be read =" myfile.canRead() " , can be written = " + myfile.canWrite();
    }else{
    cfile="ojdbc14.jar does not exist.";
    catch (Exception er){
    %>
    error in reading file:<br>
    <%=er.toString() %>
    <%
    This code gives following output:
    File ojdbc14.jar exists in the data directory. Its length is 1536979 It can be read =true , can be written = false
    Every things seems to be OK but when I try to access http://localhost:8080/jsps/CustDisp.jsp, Iget:
    Sql Error:
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1 ORA-12705: Cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified
    Best regards.

  • Sharing master files with Lightroom 4

    Several years ago I used Aperture and ended up switching to LR4, but miss a few of the features of Aperture.     I am trying to figure out a way of using Aperture to access some of my master files without having to duplicate my master files from LR4.    It is my understanding that if I import files into Aperture that the images go into a specific Aperture Library.    What I really liked about LR was that my master files could sit where ever I wanted them and the application only accessed the files rather than stowed the masters into a unique application library.

    You can import images into Aperture as referenced originals, and reference them in their original location, without moving them into the aperture library. Only you must not move them, rename them, edit them in any way after importing them into Aperture, for that will break the connection between the version in Aperture and the referenced original master.
    See: Aperture 3 User Manual: Working with Referenced Images

  • Error on upload file (User has no access to upload files) [jdev 11.1.1.3]

    Hello to all,
    I wrote this simple servlet:
    import weblogic.management.servlet.MultipartRequest;
    public class SaveImage extends HttpServlet {
    public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws IOException, ServletException{
    String rtempfile = File.createTempFile("temp","1").getParent();
    MultipartRequest mpr = new MultipartRequest(request,rtempfile);
    Enumeration files= mpr.getFileNames();
    while (files.hasMoreElements()){
    String fileName = (String)files.nextElement();
    File file = mpr.getFile(fileName);
    When I try to upload the image I receive this error:
    java.lang.RuntimeException: User has no access to upload files

    at edu.uniud.ai.servlet.SaveImage.doPost(SaveImage.java:112)
    Any idea where I make the mistake?
    Cristian

    The column types are correct. I double checked, but also I used the Business Components from Tables wizard to generate the EOs.
    I think the problem might be because JDev is set to use UTF8
    All of our tables are defined like:
    create table junk (col1 varchar2(10 BYTE));
    Notice the BYTE in the Varchar2. In all tables, ADF seems to throw the above error on ALL updates.
    Any ideas?
