Accidentally "moved project to trash".... now it won't reinstate?

After about 5 hours of working on it, I had finished making a slideshow in iMovie '09... I was going to go show somebody but wanted to quickly delete other projects that I had finished. I clicked on "Move to Trash" for those 2, but apparently I clicked one too many times and accidentally deleted my slideshow project.
Not really a big deal, right, since all you have to do is move the file out of the trash to make it work again? WRONG. It's not opening. I went to the trash and pulled out the "Temporary Item" folder iMovie automatically puts it in; now, when I click on the icon, iMovie opens to a new event ("My First Project") and won't acknowledge my slideshow. I tried doing the same thing for the other projects I meant to delete, and the same thing occurs. The file is still identified as an iMovie Project.... but... yeah. It's not working. Has anyone else had this problem and/or could help me fix it?????

I read another post about moving the file into the Movies>iMovie>iMovie Projects folder. Did that and it worked.

  • I accidentally moved Excel to Trash, after 'put back' it still doesn't open?

Let me clear, my Excel was working perfectly before I did this.
I had put the excel shortcut on the desktop, and I moved it to trash because I didn't need the icon on the desktop. I tried to open Exel on the dock, but it didn't open and said that you have to remove it from trash in order to open it. So, after removal from trash (using "put back" option), I clicked on the icon on the desktop now. It didn't open. Even with the dock icon, it displayed this message:
    The error message displayed is:
"Microsoft Excel cannot be opened because of a problem.
Check with the developer to make sure Microsoft Excel works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.

    Community, please help and advise.
I am using Microsoft Office 2011.

When I try to open Iphoto is comes up saying I need to prepare this version of iphoto with an upgrader.  I have installed it many times but it still goes back to the original window telling me I need to upgrade
But did you run the iPhoto Library Upgrader after you installed it?  The installer will install the iPhoto Library Upgrader in the folder Utilities in the Applications folder. Launch the upgrader and select your iPhoto library. After it finishes, try to run iPhoto again.  (See:  iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader)
Be sure to make a backup copy of your iPhoto library, before you try to open and to upgrade it. That is safer, because in some rare cases the upgrade can corrupt the library.

  • Moved iTunes to EHD, now it won't play.  I see it there, but...

I have moved my iTunes library 3 different ways to my external hard drive. Changed where it looks for the library and consolidated it. Do I just have to pick every song I want to hear? I thought it would play like it was still on my computer. Arrgh.

    Welcome to the forums!
It should work exactly as before if you followed this workflow:
Our iTunes guru Terence Devlin advises the following:
    1. Quit iTunes
    2. Drag the iTunes folder from your internal hd - located in ~/Music folder - to your external hd. DO NOT delete the original one from your internal hd... yet!
    3. When the transfer is complete, press and hold the Option(alt) key and fire up iTunes.
    4. A "Choose iTunes Library" window will come up. Click on the "Choose Library" button.
    5. Navigate to where the iTunes folder is located in the external hd.
    6. Within the iTunes folder, select the iTunes Library file and click Choose...
That's it. iTunes will now display all your playlists, songs, movies, podcasts etc. At this point, should you wish, you can delete the iTunes folder from the internal hd to free up space.

  • Moved AirPort Extreme and now it won't connect to the internet

I have moved my base station on previous occassions with no problems--plug and play if you will.
I just moved it to a new location and while the computers in the house recognize the wireless network with no problems, the base station no longer successfully connects to the internet.
I have plugged my MacBook Pro directly to my cable modem and confirmed that the internet still works perfectly well to the house. Plugging that same cable into the base station does not bring the internet up.
I've used the AirPort Utility to act like I'm starting from scratch.
I've chosen Manual configuration and replicated all the data from the MacBook's succesful hookup with no success.
I have manually reset the base station and tried the above again, no success.
Any other ideas? It seems too coincidental to me that there could be an actual hardware issue (everything was perfect right before I moved it (I know, I know--that begs the question, why'd you move it? I should say everything was good, except for one room in the house received a weak signal, so I wanted it to be more centrally located)) that arose just as I moved it. My guess is I just need a little tweak to a setting or something but I can't say I understand what all this DHCP stuff is about.
    Thanks for your help!

Most cable modems require that you power them off whenever you switch the Ethernet connection from one device to another. The cable modem will refuse to communicate with the new device if you do not do this.
Did you power off/on the cable modem when you switched the connection from the MacBook Pro to the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS)?
Some cable modems have a reset switch for this task.
Some cable modems have an internal battery which must be removed to do this reset.
Sometimes the cable modem must be left turned off for several hours or even overnight to reset equipment back at the ISP's office.

  • Accidentally dragged Excel to Trash and now it won't open.

I dragged Excel from Office 2008 to the Trash file.  I then dragged it out and now it won't open.  I have tried reloading the software but am stymied there as well by a message that the version I now have is newer than the version on my disc.  Help.

Margaret make sure you backup your system using Time Machine and/or a bootable clone. After doing so then uninstall MS Office. You will find a uninstall  routine in the MS Office folder located in Applications. After uninstalling MS Office then re-install using the original DVD.
BTW, going forward there is a forum specifically for Office for Mac hosted by Microsoft, click on Office for Mac Product Forums. I would recommend bookmarking the site.

I have deleted the video clips used to make an iMovie project as I thought the bits usedt were saved as part of the iMovie project. Initially the project still played post deletion. However it is no longer working as it says it can't find the video clips. Is this rescuable?
I have a very upset daughter as project took her 2 days and was her holiday memories....
    Any help gratefully received

There's no harm in looking inside the Trash folder.
When a file or folder is deleted, it is moved into the Trash folder to give you a chance to recover it if it was deleted by mistake. Of course that means Trash folder could grow large as time goes and more files are deleted.
You can recover your movies if they are still in the trash.
You should also empty the trash if you think you don't need the files in it to free up disk space.

i have not set up time machine either but i do back up to a site called backupblaze...

    Step 1
    Remove "MacKeeper" as follows.
"MacKeeper" has only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button in the dialog that appears. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. Reboot.
Failure to remove MacKeeper will result from neglecting any one of these points:
Quit MacKeeper before dragging it to the Trash.
Don't empty the Trash after dragging the application to it. Let MacKeeper delete itself.
Don't try to drag the MacKeeper icon in the Dock to the Trash.
Here are some general suggestions. If you want your computer to be usable, don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” "boosters," “extenders,” “cleaners,” "doctors," "tune-ups," “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." With very few exceptions, this stuff is useless, or worse than useless.
The more actively promoted the product, the more likely it is to be garbage. The most extreme example is the “MacKeeper” scam.
The only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for — such as creating, communicating, and playing — and does not modify the way other software works. Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it.
    Step 2
Restore from the last backup that predates the unwanted changes.

  • I accidentally moved iPhoto off from my tool bar.  Now i get the message that iPhoto can't open because it may be damage or incomplete.

I accidentally moved iPhoto off from my tool bar.  Now i get the message that iPhoto can't open because it may be damage or incomplete.  Can someone help?

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

I accidentally changed a setting on my ipod touch and now it won't change back. I have had my ipod for more than two years and i dont know what to do. If i go to the apple store, would they fix it, or would i need to get a new one? If it could be fixed, how much would it cost?

If it is still under warranty you can call the 800 number to apple and enter the serial number and it will tell you if it is under warranty or not if not its like $30 basically for them to help or something like that it said today when i called...
Or take it to a genius bar if you have one near?
Or further explain what setting you are needing fixed back and im sure someone here can help you for free!

  • I accidentally updated iPhoto on my (now) external hard drive and now it won't let me access any of my photos. What can I do?

I accidentally updated iPhoto on my (now) external hard drive and now it won't let me access any of my photos. What can I do?

So, you have two versions of iphoto? One from the old machine and one from the new?
If so, forget about opening with the older version of iPhoto.
    For the newer version:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
