I originally posted because I thought either I was doing something stupid, or that there was some little known setting or control that might sort things out.
When I called support, they tried 'little known setting or control' route, but it turned out that the ipad was definitely faulty and they have offered a replacement.
If I can help others having the same issue, I would say call support first before returning as it is possible to reset it if it is a software problem, rather than a fault with the hardware.

I have upgraded my MAC OS to 10.6.8.
Final Cut Pro 5.0 still runs great, but Soundtrack Pro 1.01 opens, but operates at a glacial pace. It does not functionally operate.

there may be other suggestions to make it work better. Usually an OS X
upgrade requires one to look at the hardware resources available to it.
The OS X works best with more memory: new higher capacity chips.
This may be possible, and they should be high quality from reputable
vender who has tested them on Apple in OS X, such as OWC or Crucial.

sometimes after a update the language of the keyboard changes. with this some letters may be changed (for example y and z)
I think in "settings - general" you can change the keyboard. -

After installing the latest itunes/quicktime update I can no longer acces the itunes store nad my iphone does not complete syncing. What can I do to fix this? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled windows updates. I have checked the firewall settings. what else?
The problem is with version 10.4.1. I had to reload 10.3 to get it to work. The recommendation from a previous poster worked for me. Here was their list of steps:
Go to Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall
2. Uninstall the following Apple programs in the following order:
a. iTunes
b. QuickTime
c. Apple Software Update
d. Apple Mobile Devices Support
e. Bonjour
f. Apple Appllcation Support
3. Reboot PC
4. Find, Download and Install iTunes 10.3 (you can find it at FileHippo.com)
If you start iTunes now you will get an error message saying that the current iTunes library was created by a newer version of iTunes. To correct this:
5. Go to your Music>iTunes folder and delete the "iTunes Library.itl" database file
6. Within this iTunes folder find and open the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and locate the most recently dated "iTunes Library (date).itl" database file.
7. Copy and Paste this file back into the iTunes folder
8. Rename this "iTunes Library (date).itl" file by removing the date. It should say "iTunes Library.itl"
9. Reboot PC -

I would first try unplugging All the USB devices plugged into your computer, and then plug back in just the iPhone and see if that is recognized. Also, do you have the latest version of iTunes for Windows installed on your PC, as you need to?
