Account set incorrectly when clicking Reply

I am on a few group message lists. Previously, Thunderbird would correctly identify the address the list came to and would use that account as the sender when replying. However, now they all default to one of my three email accounts regardless of the account the email was sent to.
That email account is not the default account nor is it first in the list alphabetically. This just started recently after upgrading to version 31.4.0.
I've confirmed that I don't have the email address in question listed under Account Settings > <Account> > Reply-to Address on any account and have confirmed the address that is the default.

Okay great, I'll keep that in mind...
He doesnt use Mail to manage his emails.... if he needs access on this computer he uses safari to access his Gmail.
The issue that is really confusing me is that it doesn't happen with every email I send, and it sometimes happens with forms I fill out on a website using safari. Even when i type my email in the address field for a form, it still gets sent back to the gmail account.
I have checked that his gmail isnt still signed in on safari and made sure everything to do with his account has been removed in Mail too.
He suggested today that I delete safari's cookies, Not sure if that will have any effect on this issue though...
Thankyou for your suggestions!

  • 'From' mail accounts messed up when I reply

This is strange. I have 3 email accounts. When I reply to an email and I choose "From" account, the accounts have garbage lines next to the account and there are a dozen of them.. for example -
Acccount name <lines of garbage sentences here etc etc>
So if I reply the complete mail account above is seen by the recipient with lines of useless text next to my name. I trashed prefs and the container file but no use.
    Any ideas?

Maybe delete and reset the SMTP server settings in Mail, Preferences, Accounts.

  • Un-wanted clipboard item auto pastes into e-mail when click 'reply'

    Hello,
If I have some text (anything I just copied and paste, in any app) in Clipboard, and hit reply to an e-mail, the clipped text automatically gets paste in the new e-mail. The original e-mail content is completely lost. Just get a blank message with whatever I just copied to clipboard.
I have to close the mail, then hit reply again and the proper message appears. Happens every time. In Outlook for Mac, plus Mac Mail. Same issue.
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • N70 HELP! no Setting option when click Options in ...

Just got a new N70 today. it has the lastest firmware v 3.0546.2.3 18-11-05 RM-84.
When i click options in Contacts, it doesn't have Setting option, which should allow me to change the way it displays names. I love the phone, but really hate it displaying Last Name first.

    Hi jiawei725
It sounds as though you might be looking at the SIM Directory. When you select your phone book, does it say Contacts at the top of the display, or SIM Directory?
If it says Contacts, you should find the Settings option under Options, which allows you to select Last name first or First name first. There is no Settings option under SIM Directory.
Usually you are asked whether you want to transfer all your SIM numbers into your contacts, when you first put a SIM into the phone and start up. If you select yes, then it will copy them all for you.
If it says Contacts at the top of the display, could you reply with a list of the options which are available when you select Options?

  • HT1694 My hotmail access disappeared from my iPad. When I go to settings and click 'mail, contacts, calendars' the page freezes. It doesn't allow me to the account setting. Anyone have suggestions?

My hotmail access disappeared from my iPad. When I go to settings and click 'mail, contacts, calendars' the page freezes. It doesn't allow me to the account setting. Anyone have suggestions?

Your Settings app is crashing. Sometimes, the only way to fix this is by restoring the iOS software but hopefully it will not come to that.
    1. Quit the app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    2. Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    3. You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your app preferences and device settings again.

Why does it say my password is incorrect when prompted to enter it a second time when setting up a hotmail account??

Make sure you enter your Apple Store account with the correct CaSe on both username and password on the AppleTV.     Make sure your AppleTV is in fact connected to the internet.

  • I just got my Ipad2 and have my email accounts set up.  When I go to the folder icon at the top of the page and click on Sent Items they disappear to somewhere.  How do you look at your sent items?

I just got my Ipad2 and have my email accounts set up.  I have sent messages but when I go to the folder icon at the top right of the page and tap on SENT emails it makes the inbox email on the screen disappear.  How do you check your sent emails?  Thanks for your help.

You can send over WiFi, but it sounds as if you need to setup your Gmail account, or did you do this already?

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, when I reply to an email from the Global Inbox it incorrectly selects the reply to address.

Ok, since upgrading to Mountain Lion, when I reply to an email from the Global Inbox it incorrectly selects just my main business email account, even if the email was sent to a completely different persoanl address. This use to work without issue in Lion. I have at least a half dozen accounts that all come into the "Global Inbox" and I never worried about what account I was replying from as it always matched the account the email was originally sent to.
Now in Mountain Lion, this is broken and no matter what email I select it defaults to my main account and I have to remember to manually select the proper reply address from the drop down menu. So far the only way to avoid this is the keep all the separate account Inboxes showing and then selecting the account that I want to view. Then when I repy it is to the correct address, but having to do this makes the "Global Inbox" view completely worthless! If I have to select teh correct Inbox to get the proper reply address every time then what is the point of having a Global View?
Why did you break this Apple?

    Hello,
When you compose a message right click on the attachement and choose "View as Icon".
I know there was a Terminal command to set all attachements as icons by default but never tried it :
    - You can also use the Terminal (in your Applications folder > Utilities) quit Mail, and type in the Terminal :
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -boolean yes
    - To restore the original settings type :
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -boolean no
    (source)
    Hope this will help.

  • In Thunderbird, I cannot send email. I am asked to enter an email address in Mail and Newsgroup Account settings but when I click on this option, nothing opens.

I can connect to Thunderbird and receive email. However, I cannot send emails. When I press send (either from replying to an email or entering an email address manually) I get the following error message:
    Sending of message failed.
No sender specified. Please fill in your email address in the Mail & Newsgroup Account settings.
When I click on the menu option within the email message Tools/Mail & Newsgroup, the message minimises and the programme returns me to my inbox. There is no Mail & Newsgroup setting on the mail programme.

Sorry, I don't use Thunderbird and this is the Firefox support forum.

  • Mail.app randomly chooses incorrect mail alias when i reply to mails

    Hi
Hope this makes sense. I have a few additional .mac mail aliases set up one in particular i use a lot for subscriptions to job sites and any other subscriptions. Problem i have is if i create a new mail and choose the alias from the pull down list and send it everything is fine, this is also true if someone sends a mail to that alias as well. Problems i'm continually having is that when i reply to a replied mail or an incoming one that's been sent to the alias occasionally but quite a lot i guess, the mail from address changes to my default main account and not the account the mail was sent to.
This is so frustrating as my real account has been sent out to certain conpanies that i should'nt have because when i click reply it will disregard the mail alias it was sent to and just choose my default.
it doesn't happen always but a lot. Anyone else seen this issue or have any suggestions? Just to clarify, my aliases work fine as do the option to choose and alias from the pull down list it's just when replying to a mail sent to that alias.
    Thanks for reading this far.

    Hi Numbatfouram,
I know how this works, let see if I can explain it!!...
When you hit the "new" button to compose an outgoing email, whichever account in your Inbox is highlighted is the one that the outgoing mail address defaults to. So make sure your Inbox toggle is down, which should show all your accounts. So when you are sorting thru your mail and want to reply to one in "XXXX" account you will be "in" that account.
    Whew, did that make sense?

  • MAIL - click REPLY, Mail uses different email account to send reply

    MBP Early 2011
    4 GB Memory 2.3 i5
    10.7.5
    Hi.
When I click reply in MAIL the from field gets filled with one of my other account emails. I want the from email address to be the same as the original address the other person used. I get the drop down window to decide which account to use. But MAIL always picks the same less used account to fill the field. I have looked and can't find the way to fix this.
The "send new message from" box has the proper email/account highlighted. Mail still uses one of my other accounts/emails -- mind you it is always the same account it uses.

One option you can do is to rename the plist file, which keeps track of your mail options. It's possible it's corrupt and not recognizing your change. The downside is you may have to enter your mail account information and options again.
If you want to try it, close the mail application. Go to "your user name"/library/preferences and find com.apple.mail.plist . Hold down the alt key, click on it, and rename it, perhaps to com.apple.mail.oldplist. Restart mail, which will create a new plist file. Go into Preferences and on the composing tab set it to what you want.  If that now works, you can erase the file you renamed, or just leave it there if you want.

  • How can I use iCloud to receive emails from my GMail account and when I reply, the reply email shows the email in which it was sent to, not the @iCloud address?

I have my GMail account forwarding my emails to my @iCloud.com account which I like, but when I reply, it shows my address as @iCloud.com instead of the email address that was originally addressed to. Anyway to have iCloud reply to emails using the email address in the original email?

You can't use iCloud's outgoing server to send with anything other than the iCloud address as the 'From' address. On your Mac you can set Mail to use the GMail outgoing server with your iCloud account (but then you can just access your GMail there anyway, so there's little point). On the iCloud website you can't do this; there is no way of using your Gmail address.

  • Clicking "reply" on web mail emails does not autofill the sender's name, nor does autofill work when I start typing an addressee's name.

I use godaddy web mail for email address "[email protected]" In the past, when I would click "Reply" to reply to an email, a window would open and the recipient's email address would autofill in the "To:" box. Now it does not. I checked on Internet Explorer, and it works there, but again, not on Firefox. Also in the past, when I would initiate a new email, as I started to type the addressee's email address in the "To:" box, it would autofill from my address book into that box. Now it does not.

I believe the Apple Help information is incorrect. This has never worked this way for as long as I've used it, and I don't believe it ever was intended to work that way. I'd say it's a case where the writers of the Help documentation meant one thing and phrased it incorrectly, and it slipped through the proofreading process all these years.

  • When I try to open editor I get an error message that I am not connected to the internet (which I am) or my computer clock is set incorrectly (which it is not).

When I try to open editor I get an error message that I am not connected to the internet (which I am) or my computer clock is set incorrectly (which it is not).

This is normally to do with activation. You need to contact Adobe directly using the link below. Use the dropdown menu for boxes (1) & (2) to scroll down the list and choose:
    1. Adobe Photoshop Elements
    2. Serial number issues or activating my product
    3. Click on the blue button: Still need help? Contact us – then click the button marked “chat now”
It’s usually possible to start a live chat, if an Adobe agent is free, and often to get the problem fixed right away. Ensure you have your serial number.

  • HT204150 Getting error message ("The set of folders cannot be opened") when clicking on "iCloud' folder in Outlook 2007. Lost contacts and calendar in outlook 2007 while installing icloud.

Vista + Outlook 2007 + Icloud : Lost all contacts and calendar in outlook when installing/Synchronizing iCloud. Both still available on iphone and iCloud.
How to get them back in Outlook? Understand iCloud erased them and transferred them in an other outlook account. In Outlook 2007, I can see a folder called "iCloud" but get an error message ("The set of folders cannot be opened...") when clicking on it. I suspect all is there, but no access possible. I assume some Outlook settings are uncorrect, but wonder which settings...?

Well. Working just fine now, since uninstalling and re-installing icloud and syncing.
