ACE Module: Recover a real server probe-failed status

How does the ACE module recover a real server that has entered a probe-failed status state? We are doing some testing, purposely dropping a servers interface. ACE recognizes the server as being down and show it in a probe-failed state. When we bring the system's interface back up, will ACE see this and automatically bring the state back into Operational status, or does someone have to do something on the ACE module?

ACE continues to probe servers that are down or probe_failed. As soon as a server starts responding again its state will switch to alive again.
Nothing to be done.
Gilles.

We are using input file component to upload an excel file and read it. Sometimes we are getting error - " A Connection to the server has failed. (status=unknown) " when we click on browse and add the file. We are getting this error when we just add the file. We are not doing any operation while adding the file. After the file is added, we have a submit button to do post operations on file. But we are getting this error immediately after we add the file. JDeveloper version 11.1.1.5.0.
    Any inputs will help us.

    Hi,
there must be a stack trace in the log files that gives you more information about this. Chances are the browser closes the socket connection, which you can verify by using another browser and avoiding e.g. VPN connect for testing. Another test to perform is to try 11.1.1.7 and see if this works for the use case in case you sit on a known and already fixed problem

  • Internet Explorer:A Connection to the server has failed (status=12152)

I am getting "A Connection to the server has failed (status=12152)" error in my adf application when using Internet Explorer. The application is deployed on a hosted server with SSL.
This seems to happen randomly. After clicking on "OK" and the action is correctly performed again. I don't have this issue in Firefox.
There are no error messages in the server logs.
Can you please let me know how to fix this issue.

  • A connection to the server has failed. (status=403) error

    Hi,
I have created an application with ADF security. When a user is redirected to the login.jspx page, if he clicks on any tab on the menubar(each of which are different jspx pages), it throws a pop up with the following error message-
"A connection to the server has failed. (status=403)"
Can someone please tell me where the problem lies.
    Regards
    Apoorva

    Hi Apoorva,
When there is no welcome page defined in the application's web.xml file you can get a 403 error.
Also note that when an user has not been authenticated yet, should not have access to any secured pages, any navigation component on the welcome page that points to a secured page. So if that's the case, any component that points to secured pages should be hidden.
For further information you can take a look at the document available at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14571_01/web.1111/b31974/adding_security.htm#BABDEICH
    Hope this helps.

  • ACE module client and real servers on same subnet

I am working on a ACE load balancing implementation, which has following requirement? Can someone let me know if this can be implemented and how?
    Configuration
    test context
    real server vlan 233
    real server subnet - 167.6.233.x
    VIP vlan - 539
    VIP subnet - 167.6.238.128/25
    production context
    real server vlan 232
    real server subnet - 167.6.232.x
    VIP vlan - 538
    VIP subnet - 167.6.238.0/25
Load balancing is coinfigured in routed mode with ACE as gateway for test and prod real sever subnets (233 and 232 subnets).
Test and production servers are mixed in these subnets. So we need to configure source NAT to access the test servers in the production subnet (232) and vis versa.
Here are the scenarios and questions
    1. clients need to access the real servers in prod subnet (232) through VIP configured in test context (vlan 539) - this is done by SNAT at vlan 539 and working.
    2. real servers in test subnet (233) needs to access real servers in same subnet (233) through VIP configured in test context (vlan 539) - this is done by SNAT at vlan 233 and working
    3. real servers in prod subnet (232) need to access the real servers in test subnet (233) through VIP configured in test context (vlan 539) - this appears to be working fine without any additional configuration
    4. real servers in test subnet (233) needs to access another real servers in prod subnet (232) through VIP configured in test context (539)  - this is not working
    5. real servers in test subnet (233) needs to access another real server which is not on one of the subnet (167.6.56.x) behind ace - this is not working.
Can we implement the scenarios 4 and 5?

    Hi Suresh,
I see it's a bit complex and we do not have the config at hand.
However for the scenario 4 if you apply the policy already applied on vlan 539 on the interface vlan233 then the ACE should catch the packets and apply the policy (i.e. forward the packets to the serverfarm you want)

  • OVM Server in failed status after a power outage

    Hi,
We recently experienced a power outage and the OVM environment completly reboot.
The OVM manager come back as well as the ovm server.
The issue is i can't anymore control the OVM servers from the manager as the both servers are in a failed status with the following message:
Job failed commit (internal) due to If the IP address of this server has changed, please delete the server: oracle55, and re-discover.
    Tue Nov 06 16:32:38 CET 2012
com.oracle.ovm.mgr.api.exception.IllegalOperationException: If the IP address of this server has changed, please delete the server: oracle55, and re-discover.
Interesting enough, I can manually restart the VMs (xm create...). Thus I'm not really in favor of deleting and rediscovering the servers.
Obviously the ip configuration didn't change (no DNS).
Any idea how to fix this?
    Thanks for your help.
    Yann

    Hello!!
Maybe it could be ovs-agent service from the server not communicating correctly with VM Manager??
You should login to server and see what command "service ovs-agent status" returns!!
If everything is running maybe a "service ovs-agent restart" could resolve something...
Also check that there aren't locked processes...under "/var/run/ovs-agent/" check that there is NOT any ".lock" file.
    Greets!! ;)

  • Design ? about SNMP operation in ACE module ... Traps sent to different Mgmt Stations

    Good Day everyone,
I searched the site, and I could not find the answer I was looking for, so If anyone happens to know or point me to a link I would greatly appreciate it.
    Topic:
Can ACE module sent different Traps (oid) to different management station? Split decision processing to send specific traffic to specific stations, based on the alert it has detected.
    Scenario:
Our network equipments have a demarc point on what devices are managed via SNMP (Traps, syslog, EMS, etc...); Routers, Switches, ACE modules, and so forth.
However, we are not responsible for the App Servers assigned to various broadcast domains.
Customer would like to receive Notification from the ACE module when a Real Server is taken out of rotation , when specific probes have failed.
My team manages the ACE module, so any alerts from the ACE will be sent to the management station configured in our network.
Unfortunately I do not have a Test Lab to test my theory, so any help would be greatly appreciated before I submit my Production configs.
    Design Requirements:
Customer would like the following traps generated and sent to their management station:
    1) Real Server host name
    2) TCP port
    3) Real Server IP address
    4) If capable, percentage threshold for each real server, based on the prediction configured for each Server Farm
    5) Can a NetIQ agent be download on the ACE module to communicate with the NetIQ management station?
As always thank you for any help you can provide, and if you happen to be around Huntsville Alabama/USA.. you got a cold beer waiting for you!!!!
    Cheers,
    -raman

    Gilles,
Thank you for your prompt answer.
When you have time please look over the following question and let me know if it is possible to implement, if the Proxy server is not an option?
Can a Custom TCL script be executed to sent an notification via SMPT if a health probe fails?
The SMTP message will contain the server info (IP address, Host name, TCP port).
The script procedure will execute certain actions based on the returned result.
    Thanks,

    P.S
Sorry about not being up to speed on TCL. I am reading up on the TCL capability, and trying to provide some options to my customer.

  • ACE : PROBE-FAILED and Syslog messages

    Hi,
When a real server is in PROBE-FAILED status, I observe a syslog message at each trial of the proble. This fills our syslog server. Is there a mean to configure the ACE in such a way that a syslog message would be generated only when a transition occurs in the probe status ?
    Thank you for any hints,
    Yves

    Hello,
You can utilize "logging trap " command and
    "logging message level " command
in order to achive what you are seeking.
The "logging trap " command limits the logging messages sent to a syslog server based on severity.
If it is set to "5 - notification", all messages that have security level of 5 or lower number are sent to the syslog server.
You can disable the display of a specific syslog
message or change the severity level of a specific system log message using
    "logging message level " command.
Not sure what kind of probe you are using but If it is ICMP probe and
the reason of probe failure is arp, it generates a message for every try
as below with severity level of 3, by default.
%ACE-3-251009: ICMP health probe failed for server 192.168.0.1, connectivity error: ARP not resolved for destination ip address
%ACE-3-251009: ICMP health probe failed for server 192.168.0.1, connectivity error: ARP not resolved for destination ip address
%ACE-3-251009: ICMP health probe failed for server 192.168.0.1, connectivity error: ARP not resolved for destination ip address
%ACE-3-251009: ICMP health probe failed for server 192.168.0.1, connectivity error: ARP not resolved for destination ip address
%ACE-3-251009: ICMP health probe failed for server 192.168.0.1, connectivity error: ARP not resolved for destination ip address
%ACE-5-441002: Serverfarm (SF) is now back in service in policy_map (fs) -->
class_map (#class_default_slb). Number of failovers = 0, number of times back in service = 0
%ACE-4-442007: VIP in class: 'VIP' changed state from OUTOFSERVICE to INSERVICE
%ACE-5-441002: Serverfarm (SF) is now back in service in policy_map (fs) -->
class_map (#class_default_slb). Number of failovers = 0, number of times back in service = 0
%ACE-4-442004: Health probe ICMP detected rserver r1 (interface vlan31) changed state to UP
%ACE-4-442001: Health probe ICMP detected r1 (interface vlan31) in serverfarm SF changed state to UP
If your "logging trap " is set to "5 - notification" and you do not want
the message "%ACE-3-251009:xxx" to be sent to syslog server,
you can change its security level like below.
    switch/Admin(config)# logging message 251009 level 6
switch/Admin(config)# do show logging message 251009
    Message logging:
                    message 251009: current-level 6  default-level 3 (enabled)
You can check the message id that is filling the syslog server
and change its security level to higher number than "logging trap ".

    Kimihito.

  • ACE 4710 Probes on other servers than the real server

    Hi,
I wanted to know if there is a means to configure a probe that is independent of the real servers.
The aim is to configure a probe a real server but also probe another intermediate server which is not in the server farm.
The objective is to declare the real server down if its probe fails but also the probe to an intermediate server fails as well as a or condition.
From the document, there is no mention of it.
But is there a means to do it.
    Thanks.

    Hi Ashley,
i see it is not mentioned anywhere in document but i think ou should be able to bind two probes with real server of which one probe is actually probing another server.
I would configure one probe let's say TCP based and bind it with serverfarm. Then i would configure another probe TCP based and define IP address in that probe (the other server IP which we need to probe) and bind this probe with same serverfarm. Serverfarm will not have this rserver added. And then i would configure "fail-on-all" and test if that works for you.
i know you can set probe on redirect server/serverfarm which actually probes another real server so logically should work for normal host rserver as well. But i have never tested it myself.

    Kanwal

    Pleae help..Thanks in advance

    Hello!
Well yes it would work. BUT...you have to change your config a bit. First you need to apply your accesslist to both interfaces, or the ACE will reject it, because it is acting as a firewall by default. And second you have to apply the policymap to both interfaces as well or you put the policymap globally on the ACE.

  • ACE http redirect on probe fail & others

    Hi everyone,
I have multiple http based application running on 2 servers and they all be referenced behind the publised VIP from the load balancer.
The probes are already there, applications are accessed but one criteria from the business is not to fail the whole server for one application. There is some independance between the apps that if one fails, the other would need to still load balanced.
I would like, if the application fails on both server, to maybe be able to redirect to another URL any request for a particular App/URL.
    Any suggestions ?

    Hi,
To not declare a real server down if one of its applications fail, you should configure your probes in your serverfarm, and (if not already done) create a serverfarm per application.
If you want to be able to redirect a request send to a failed serverfarm, you can configure a backup serverfarm in you L7 policy map like this:
    serverfarm name1 backup name2
The second serverfarm should then be of the type:
    serverfarm redirect name2
    webhost-redirection relocation_string [301 | 302]
where the relocation_string is the URL that should be used, 301 is permanently moved and 302 is temporarily.
For the relocation_string, you can use following special characters:
%h Inserts the hostname from the request Host header
%p Inserts the URL path string from the request
Mor info can be found in this doc:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/interfaces_modules/services_modules/ace/v3.00_A2/configuration/slb/guide/slbgd.html
    Hope this helps.

    Hi ,
This error means, that the ace is not receiving a 200 ok response from the server, this happens when server is not responding it or it is receiving that do not have a host header having value hcmfincrp1.test.com , which you have definied, or the page has got modified. Please check if your http server is working fine.

  • Probe fail on Standby ACE in One-armed mode

    Hi there
    I'm Kilsoo.
I made One-armed mode using ACE.
Real servers are in away Vlan from ACE.
So, I configured the PBR with ACE alias ip address for the next-hop on the real server's gateway interface.
And, the probe from active ACE works well.
But, the probe from standby ACE was fail.
At this point, my first question
Is it normal situation that the probe fail from standby ACE????
So, I made the route-map for PBR like below for temporary solution.
    route-map deny PBR 5
    match ip address Probe_ACL
    route-map permit PBR 10
    match ip address L4_ACL
      set ip next-hop <Alias IP address>
    ip access-list extended Probe_ACL
      pemit ip any <Standby ACE's IP address>
    ip access-list extended L4_ACL
    permit tcp <Real server's IP address> eq 80 any
    Second question...
Do you have any other good solutions???
    Thanks

    Hi Cesar
    Thanks for your reply.
But I think I was confuse when I wrote the message.
I used both ace's vlan ip address for next-hop ip address like your advice.
Do you know the standby ace can't check probe without route-map in one-armed mode like below diagram???

  • ACE Module - HTTP Probe failure

    Hi,
I have configured the http probe with expect status 200 202, but the probe fails despite availability of the port on rserver.
I tried head/get method to see the return code, and it came back with HTTP1.1/302. How can I configure an http probe to understand HTTP 302 code as success return.
    Thanks.

I changed the expect status value as below
    probe http TEST-HTTP
    interval 30
    passdetect interval 10
    request method head
    expect status 302 302
The probe is still failing with the log message
Apr 20 2009 12:04:35 : %ACE-3-251010: Health probe failed for server 192.168.1.10 on port 80, received invalid status code
On 'show probe detail' it shows the last status code as 400 which means Bad Request

The http page is showing perfectly on the web browser. Also, using the http head/get tool, I can see that 302 is returned.
    What could be the problem.
    Regards.
