Acer 1916W - out of box - very PINK cast.

I love it when things don't work right...
Has anybody had any experince with this sort of issue.
Just hooked it up to a brand new mac mini, and the whites in the monitor has a distinctly pink tinge.
I calibrated through the display preferences - then tried the few controls the monitor has - to no avail.
Really a bit frustrated.
If I send this monitor back - is there a brand with a widscreen in the $200 range someone really likes?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Hello,
Glad to hear it worked for you
The weak spot is Apple's video adapter. It just doesn't hold firm to the computer.
There are thumb-screws on the adapter (integrated into it so it's easy to miss them). Rotate those screws, and tighten the adapter's connection with the computer.
See if that helps. It made some improvement on mine once I looked close enough to realize that they were there.
Then, use the thumb-screws on the monitor's adapter cable to tighten that connector to the adapter on the Mac Mini.
If that still doesn't hold firm enough, consider getting a wood block to place under the adapter (between the adapter and the table) that will hold the adapter up where it needs to be. I did this on my system for a while. You could even tape it to the adapter for a more solid and reliable hold.
The weakness is in Apple's design. Given the weight of a cable and the pressure exerted by plugging a long cable into the adapter, they should have made the connection more solid.
If I remember correctly, the tighteners on the adapter from Apple only apply a pressure fit instead of actually screwing into the computer like other adapters do.
So, about all you can really do is get a computer with a better connector, or re-inforce it with a block or something if it doesn't hold the weight on it's own.
Let us know if you have other questions.
I hope this helps.

  • Pink cast from custom display profile on MacBook Pro

I am wondering if there are any known issues with making monitor profiles for the new intel mac laptops?
I have created a display profile for my new MacBook Pro.
The profile gives me a pronounced pink magenta cast when i open my images in Photoshop Cs2 & Cs3.
I am satisfied that my colour settings in Cs2 & Cs3 are correct.
I have a good knowledge of Color Management & how to implement it into my workflow.
I cross checked some sample images on My old desktop G4 mac & also on my Windows pc both using Crt monitors.
The image's were fine on both machines and merely highlighted how wrong the display profile was on the Laptop.
I took the monitor profile out of the loop in Photoshop by doing a View>Proof Setup>Monitor RGB & checked "preserve colour numbers".
This allowed me to check the black point & gamma & they seemed fine.
But when I brought the display profile back I had the cast again.
I have checked Profilemaker 5.0.8 & my Eye-One pro by using them to update the profile & calibration on my Apple G4 desktop mac & also on my old Dell pc.
In both cases the Monitor's connected are Crt as opposed to Lcd.
The resulting Profiles were fine & as expected not different from the previous profiles made using the same eye-one & Profilemaker 5.0.7
I have also very recently created an output profile for my epson printer which also seemed perfect.
That seems to suggest that the Profiling software & hardware are working perfectly.
That narrows things down to the MacBook Pro.
Incidentally if I set the default Apple supplied "Color Lcd" as the system display profile the images display perfectly with no cast.
I also created a new user account on my MacBook Pro in case there was conflict with some of the other software on my system.
Again in this separate account the default Color Lcd profile resulted in a very close match between how the sample images looked on the laptop screen & both Crt displays.
I have tried various ways of creating the profile for the Laptop in Profilemaker 5.0.8 but apart from some differences in Luminosity I still end up with the pink cast creating profile.
Any body got any ideas or similar experiences.
I cheked with Gretmacbeth & they said as far as they are concerned it's probably a mac issue. They claim that it is usually a video driver that apple will quietly update without any declaration

I don't know the answer to your question, however I tried using my MonacoOptix device on my 17" MBP, and I get a severe green cast! I was thinking it was probably some incompatibility because my device and software are a few years old now, but wonder now what device/software might make a good profile on the new MBP's???

  • Creating automated email reminders to users every 2 weeks via Workflow 2010 Out of Box approach only

    Hi,
I have been asked to automate the email reminders to users (every two weeks) from the SharePoint2010 solution.
I am trying to achieve this via workflow ,but am unable to get the results.
    Req :
Twice a month the users should get an automated email reminder for a specific task.
    1. On 14th (or last working day in mid month -1) of the month. ( a field "mid month end" captures the date as 15th of the month)
    2. On last working day - 1 of the month. ( a field "month end" captures the date as last day of the month)
Please let me know how i can achieve this via Out of box functionality. I donot have exp with workflows so a detailed steps guidlines will be very helpfull.
    Regards,
    Guru

Although you can start a workflow and then pause it for a number of days, I'd feel uncomfortable with that. If the farm crashes, who guarantees that the paused workflows will pick up where they were left off?
SharePoint does no offer to run a workflow on all items in a list/library -- which I feel is a big draw back.
The good news is that there is a free 3rd party tool that can run a workflow on all (or specific) items in a list or library.  It's called the
HarePoint Workflow Scheduler and I love it.
You can create a view that shows the items that you want to run the workflow on.
Or, if you know how to write CAML, you can feed the CAML Query right into the HarePoint Workflow Scheduler task.
At my company we have several sites in production that use the HarePoint Workflow Scheduler with a view.
So, first, create a SharePoint Designer workflow and define it to run manually.
Then use the HarePoint workflow scheduler to define a schedule.
You can define a schedule for the HarePoint tool, like every day, month, week, etc., by just clicking a few boxes.
Since this functionality does not come out of the box with SharePoint 2010, this free tool is a real gem.
    cheers, teylyn

  • Share photos by email not working. Brings up grayed out check box? Want to share photos thru Entourage.

Share photos by email not working in Photos Version 1.0 (209.52.0) on a Macbook Pro 17" Yosemite 10.10.3.  Brings up grayed out check box? Want to share photos thru  MS Entourage for Mac 2008 Ver. 12.3.6  Thanks!

@Naiks, having suffered through unsuccessful synching attempts for Calendar and Contacts myself, l would suggest you try the following:
UNINSTALL iCloud control panel from your PC. Seems silly, but do it.
Go into Outlook, and look at the very top menu. Click FILE, then ACCOUNT SETTINGS, then click the popup box.
You will see a list of all your email accounts. Make sure that ONE of them has a checkmark against it. If not, select the account your want as your default, and click "set as default.
Exit out of Outlook and reboot your machine.
Now reinstall iCloud, check CALENDAR and CONTACTS, and do as instructed when prompted.
Reboot for good luck and now launch OUTLOOK. All that remains is to locate your iCloud Contacts and Calendar files, and make them your default.
IMPORTANT: Don't panic if you can't find your contacts -- they're there. Click CONTACTS and you'll see you have several available contact files. Locate the one label "iCloud" in grey type. Right-click on it, select PROPERTIES, then click the Outlook Address Book tab. Check the box that says something like "Make this my default Outlook Address Book." Keep clicking "apply" and "okay" until you've exited out of the dialog box maze.
You may have to do something similar with your Calendar files. I dd not, but if you need to, do it.
Everything should now sync pretty seamlessly.
I didn't have the exact same problem as you, but my dilemma was close enough. Good luck!

    Hi everyone,
I am looking for out-of-box portlets.
Other than the sampleportal project that is included with weblogic portal 7.0,
which includes some out-of-box portlets (such as email, dictionary, bookmarks,

  • How can I restore out of box configuration on Cisco device?

    Hello,
The new Cisco devices (routers and switches) are coming with some default (out of box) configuration, but not without configuration, not with blank configuration.
I realized that there is some command that can restore thе default configuration. But I can't find it.
What is this command? Anyone does it know?
    Thanks in advance!
    Best Regards,
    Tsvety

Mike's suggestion was correct. I would only add that one needs to erase vlan.dat if you have a switch that was used elsewhere. Cisco procedure linked here (for switches) and here (for routers).
Even a brand new factory-fresh box will have SOME configuration bits on it. A skeleton configuration - the default VLAN 1, empty interface definitions, etc. will always be there. The only way to remove everything would be to erase flash altogether forcing one to boot in rommon (not very useful).

  • New 2011 Imac out of box, updated software now wont boot up? Ive had this machine for 24 hours!

Brand new out of box Imac 27" Booted up ok. Downloaded/updated software and prompted restart and now no screen? Makes the boot up noise but screen remains black? Any ideas or others with similar problem? Very dissapointed in product considering Im replacing my older Imac of 3.5yrs (out of warranty) with faulty hard drive.

Unplug it. Wait 2 minutes (don't rush it). Plug it back in. Power it up. Have patience during the first startup.
If the computer hasn't booted to the desktop (or the login screen if you have auto login disabled) within 5 minutes, considering that it's brand-new-out-of-the-box, call Apple and schedule a repair appointment at your nearest Apple Store.
I know it's annoying that you might have a lemon, but it does happen - don't give up on Mac because you got the one bad Apple.

  • Installing clean copy of Windows 7 without out-of-box state software?

I have the Toshiba Satellite A505-S6025 model and was wanting to do a clean install of Windows 7 on it. Without using the system recovery option and having it formated too out-of-box state. I was just wondering if it would effect the computer in any way? Because I know their are lots of system programs that come a long with it for key features. What do you think?

Perhaps I can add some usefull information here.  Most, if not all, computer manufacturers no longer provide recovery disks.  Some provide these at a small cost.  They do provide intruction how to make these disks.  There is a great amount of free information available on the internet how to do this.  The hard drive on new machines usually has 2 partitions, 1 is the recovery partition (dive), the other is the system partition (generally drive "C").  These partitions also contain the product bloatwhere specific to there products.  Most users find these utilities very useful.  If you format the drive and install a fresh operating system (lets say Windows 7) you generally will only have 1 partition (drive "C") without the product utilities.  The machine will work just fine.  Keep in mind, you will have to download and install new drivers and operating system updates and perhaps will need to make some system changes, such as screen resolution. I DO NOT SUGGEST THIS FOR MOST USERS.  Most users are starting to understand the need to backup their DATA, very few backup the system.  Anyone that buys a new machine should first make the system recovery disks, then do all the system and driver updates and back up once again. I suggest purchasing a USB hard drive and a product such as CMS Bounceback.  Backup the entire system, perhaps weekly or monthly depending on your useage.  In the event of a hard drive failure, you can swop the drive and be back in business in less than 1 hour.  You can also backup from the spare hard drive.

  • A505-S6986 - IE crashing out of box

Brand new just out of box...So far I am underwhelmed with this machine (upgrading from a very, very, very old Compaq DT machine that was rebuilt years ago). I am finding this machine slower than expected for boot up, and find that IE crashes constantly.
I have not yet removed Norton, but know I need to get the "utility tool" to remove it and will put on Avast. What other things should I remove, add or change to make this machine perform at the top of it's game? I plan to spend the next three days getting this setup so I can retire the Dino to Jurasik Park.
What about partitioning and isolating the operating system, programs, etc?  I am a bit of novice, so please keep that in mind with suggestions of what should be done.
    Thanks

If it's still under warranty, send it back. That would be my first option. I wouldn't be surprised if they put in the wrong OS in the recovery partition. It's typical copy and paste from their typical best selling system is what you have. You can always call their 800 number and see if they will support you even if it's not under warranty.
Toshiba is making a lot of junk lately. I've owned 3 Toshibas prior to acquiring my latest POS last year.

  • Poor IP Connectivity - Reinstalling Out of Box Config

Hi All, I started having problems yesterday with Airport and not being able to connect to the internet on my 10 day old MBP. Prior to this I had solid connections all over the house. Not sure what happened but I have seen a flood of posts on this with poor IP connectivity. My ISP is solid as I have an existing wireless network and the PC's are fine! Upgraded to 10.4.7 and same thing. I get 3 to 5 bars, fluctuates, sometimes I get on the internet, sometimes I do not. Very frustrating indeed. Reception and connectivity really went South last 36 hours or so
So I decided to reinstall the DVD restore discs so I can get it back exactly as it was out of box. I hope this won't cause any problems. I am somewhat leary now of installing any updates! Should I be? All I know is that right out of the box and for the last 10 days I had no trouble at all so hopefully I can get back to that point again.
If anyone has any feedback or comments on similar experiences, I would very much appreciate it. Many thanks
    dave

    Hi,
Wanted to update everyone on my experiences today regarding this issue. I first called Apple Customer Care first thing this morning and described the problem and they assigned a case number.
Then I took the unit to our local Apple Store, made an with the "genius" and after about 10 minutes in the back, he verified that there was a hardware problem of some kind with the Airport Card. They annotated this on the case number notes.
Then I called Apple Customer Support when I got home and, to be honest, I was expecting a big hassle but they took care of me and will send me an RMA label to ship the MBP back and then I will get a new unit! I just hope that the new one will not have the same problems and that it is a week 24 or higher build!
Just wanted to share with everyone that if you have a problem with your Mac, the process does work if you give it a chance. My original machine was ordered on June 6th with a delivery of June 12th, so today is the 16th day I have had it. No restocking fee! I hope this info is helpful. Thanks for reading!

  • Case YELLOWING and pink cast at startup - Bring it in?

I have a 23" ACD Clear enclosure. I purchased this unit used off craigslist and have used it for the past 1.5 years. It has AppleCare on it, but will expire in November 2006.
I use it daily, so I've been hesitant to bring it in for service, but now that the AppleCare is closer to expiring, I wonder if I should bring it in and get it checked out, or if my issues even warrant any sort of problem.
First, the clear plastic on the back case and leg has yellowed and appears almost gold in color. I think the previous owner had it set up in front of a window that had a lot of sun exposure. I don't know if AppleCare would cover something cosmetic like this.
Secondly, I have an obvious pink cast around the edges of my screen at startup (during the gray screen with Apple logo), but it's not really noticeable once the mac is up and running as I generally run a darker desktop pattern. I also get a lot of ghosted images during normal usage: when I have a white web page on screen on a darker background and then move the window to a new position or close it, I see a faint image of the web page. It eventually fades away and disappears.
Is it worth contacting Apple about my "problems"? Just wondering if anyone has had a similar issue and what Apple did about it. TIA.

    Call them again and verify.

  • Re: Out-of-box recovery

    Hi,
I uninstalled Realtek Ethernet controller driver and then accidentally installed the Realtek all-in-one Windows driver but it wouldn't do the same thing as the other one.
I then tried to uninstall it but it wouldn't let me so I tried to do the out-of-box recovery. It says to hold 0 (zero) down and press the power button so that's what I did and it just froze on the page with the red 'TOSHIBA' on even though the manual said it should come up with a warning page.
I am not an expert at computers and am very stuck on what to do because I have to use the Ethernet cable whenever I want to connect to the internet.
If someone can help then I would be very grateful. :)

    Hello
If you check Users Manuals document on page 80 you will notice that there is no word about pressing zero at start up.
HDD recovery installation works as described on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm or using recovery USB stick if you have created one.
For more questions you are welcome.

Those files are not currently supported in Premiere Pro.  I have not seen any mention of that specific support being added, however, the next version about to hit does add support for CinemaDNG from at least two other sources, and should finally add the Source Settings.

just took my iPod classic 160GB out of box, turned it on and accidentially hit a button changing the language from english to something else (chinese or japanese).  All I see now is symbols.  How do I turn it back to english without knowing what any of these symbols mean.  I started clicking buttons and click wheel and can't seem to get to any section with various language options.  Please some help me get it back to english.

There are two options. The first is to learn whatever language you have it set to, the second is to find someone else with an iPod Classic and read the English menu and follow it in your iPod. I also believe you may be able to set language perfunces from within iTunes while the iPod is docked, providing they are in English.
