Acrobat 8 Pro, change form background

Hi there,
We are currently making a lot of interactive forms in Acrobat.
We design the form in InDesign, and then export as PDF and generate a form on that.
But sometimes there is a small change in the InDesign file, and we have to create the entire form + all the actions and JavaScripts.
Is there a way to keep the form layer and just change the PDF background of the file?
I hope I am making any sense,
cheers,
Mark

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro - distributed form - unreadable reponses

Have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro - created a distributed form for emailing - emailed it to parents and most files come back readable - have 4 file that are not readable - they will print okay but they are not readable by the "responses" files - tried to save  them a a new pdf file but new saved files also came back unreadable by responses file. The readable files are of a size 257K whereas the non-readable file sizes are much smaller - any ideas as to what is happening to these?

The files may have been filed out on a Mac using Preview not Reader. Preview is known to cause problem wrt form fields.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro & CS4 Forms

I created an error report form using Acrobat 9 Pro and enabled "Extended Forms Fill-In Save in Adobe Reader," so users using the free Adobe 8 Reader can use it.  I just discovered that three users in our graphics dept will also need to use the form, they are using CS4 on Mac's.
Here's the problem: When the Mac people fill out and save the form and I open it using either Reader 8 or 9 Pro the text in the fill in fields are masked in blue highlight thus hiding the text.
For example: I have two fields one named "Customer" and another named "Date".
A Mac user opens the form, fills in the two fields and saves it.  I open the .pdf and see two blue highlighted fields where text should be.  If I click on the "Customer" field the text in that field will appear, now if I click on "Date" the text in the "Customer" field will be hidden by the blue highlight and the text in the "Date" field will display. If a Mac user reopens the .pdf they have NO issue viewing the text in the fill in fields, doesn't matter if it was filled out using PC or MAC or Both.
Here's where it get even more weird.... If a PC user using Reader 8 or 9 Pro fills in part of the .pdf and a Mac user using CS4 fills in the rest, as stated above all the fill in fields are masked by a blue highlight when opened on a PC and if the form is printed out (black & white) ONLY the text entered by the Mac user is printed, the fields fill out by the PC user are blank.
Is there some setting I'm missing?  Or a work around?
    Help!
    Chris

The Mac users need to use Adobe Reader to fill in the forms instead of the Mac Preview application that comes' with the Mac.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro Ext Forms

I am using Acrobat 9 Pro Extended (Adobe Live Cycle Designer) to Create a Feedback Form for use in a Web Site. When completed I saved this Form as Static PDF. I then sent the PDF Form as an email attachment to a friend for testing, with instructions to fill in the Form and then press the Email Submit Button to send it back to me as a completed Form.
When I opened the email, the message had _data.xml added to the original filename. When I opened this message, I was surprised to see, not the Form as I had designed it with the Field Inputs, but instead it was like a html text version of his Input, with all the Text Field Numbers and Button Numbers shown.
Is this Normal Behaviour and if it is, what do I have to do in the Design area, to make it come back as the Form I designed.
    Please reply to:
    [email address removed by host]

When you use an email submit button in LiveCycle Designer, it is set up to attach the XML form data to an email message. In order to submit the entire PDF, you have to use a standard button, set the "Control Type" to "Submit" (via the Object palette), and then on the Submit tab, select "PDF" for the "Submit As" type.
In order for it to work with Reader, the form needs to be Reader-enabled. To do this, open the form in Acrobat and select: Advanced > Extend Features in Adobe Reader

  • Acrobat  9 Pro Extended Forms Issue

Hello, I'm having an issue with two simple forms that I have created in Acrobat 9 Pro Extended. I am using Windows XP SP2. The forms have a submit button that is supposed to send to a specified e-mail address. Everything tests fine until the link is posted on our Intranet. Once the user clicks Submit after filling out the form, they are presented with a box with two buttons: Send Link and Send Copy. Does anyone know how to stop this box from popping up? What is happening is they do not read the box and click Send Link, which only sends a blank form back to us and they lose what they have filled out. Any help would be much appreciated, and thank you in advance.

I finally got our webmaster to put the link to the form online so that I could test the form. It is not sending to the address specified. I have setup the Submit button as follows: in the window under Enter a URL for this link: the URL was input as MailTo: [email protected] (there is a space between MailTo: and the e-mail address). After submitting Outlook 2k3 sends back an undeliverable message. Is the space in the URL causing the issue or is it something I need to run by our security people due to the way the form is being submitted?
    Many thanks,
    Mike

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro - Fillable Form

Attempted to create fillable form from Excel document.  Received message as follows:
    Adobe Live Designer
Designer was unable to locate critical application files.  Please shut down Designer and run the installation (found under Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel).  Choose to 'Repair' the installation in order to restore the missing files.
After clicking OK, I received the following message:
    Unable to load local library.
I closed everything.  Reopened Adobe Acrobate 8 Pro.  Run the installation recommended and tried my project again.  Received the same messages indicated above plus a new one:
Adobe Live Cycle Designer has encountered a problem and needs to close.
So I have no been able to create a fillable pdf.  Anyone have a solution?

while in excel spread sheet go to file save as and click on PDF, it will convert your form to the adobe version. Then you will have to program all the fields you want to be typed in.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro - Pale Yellow Background?

I have seen similar threads to this before but never with a satisfactory explanation/resolution so I'm going to try again! When printing .pdf documents opened using Acrobat 9 Pro to a Lexmark laser colour printer, I get certain areas of text/image printing with a pale yellow background - this seems particularly to apply to parts of the documents which were originally .jpeg images or template text, or in extreme cases for a scanned image which has been converted to .pdf the whole of the document background can be pale yellow! This seems to be a transparency issue related to the settings in Acrobat 9 Pro, because if I open the same documents using Acrobat Reader 8 and print to the same printer using the same print settings then the problem disappears and the backgrounds are white (transparent?) as normal. This is a maddening problem!! All it seems to need is the right settings clicking in Acrobat 9 Pro to set the transparency to the right level, but I can't find what they are - can anybody help?

    Hi All - Breaking news.
I Tried an experiment. The pictures and logo in question were all "Jpg's" I saved my logo as a "gif" and it does not now have the yellow background problem in either word or when I convert to a PDF.
    Can someone please advise me..
When I am making logo's or images and or photographs for print and the web, what is the best format to save them in. (please bear in mind that I am an enthusiastic amature.
Thanks to every one who has contributed. I am eternally greatful, thank you all so much for your support.

  • Adobe Acrobat 11 pro includes form central?

Hi, I am buying adobe acrobat 11pro, and I think it includes form central templates, if I wanna create conditional based form which I think PDF doesnt support, and I dont want to embed the form into website, so what are my options.
    1. I want to create conditional form if I can do that in PDF is really good, like live cycle designer can do.
    2. If I buy adobe acrobat 11 pro then I'll have access to form central ?
    3. If I create a form in form central then is it possible I can see all the response in my inbox rather then seeing them online?

1-Acrobat XI and FormsCentral cannot create PDF forms with conditional logic. FormsCentral web forms do support conditional logic.
2-You have access to the free version. If you want additional capabilities you would need to purchase FormsCentral Basic or Plus subscription
3-FormsCentral supports sending email notifications that include a summary of the data in the email body text.

just started using the Adobe Cloud. Signed up for monthly Adobe Acrobat XI pro. Just reloaded to new computer and it is asking for product password. Looked through all of my emails and can't find it. Have tried to email Adobe but to no avail. Also, I have a travelling laptop and Samsung 4 phone. Can I have access to a least ther travelling computer since I am only using the program on one device at a time.

Thank you so much for your reply. If I open Acrobat XI from my Start Menu, It comes up with the program possiblities. The first time I try to use it, it goes to a screen with Acrobat XI trial; I click on License this software, and it as me to sign in. Then it comes up with a request for Serial Number.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro: Order Form, need SUM=blank? and not $0.00 (HELP!!!)

I know this might be an easy question for people with javascript knowledge.... but I can't get this working... please help!
I need Order Form total field (sum) to default to blank (instead of $0.00).
*example: Under >calculate I am using "simplified field notation" and (Qty1)*7.95 -- sum appears in "total 1"
The unit price is $7.95 - The value of Qty1 = total 1 (calculations are working fine)
Currently all total boxes read as $0.00 --- I need SUM to be blank until a customer selects a quantity
How can I make the SUM default to blank? and NOT $0.00 - Is it a validation script??? If so, please help with code!!!
    Help is appreciated - Thanks!
PS - SUM fields can't be set as non-printing, because Shipping Dept./Accounting Dept. needs ability to print and view totals (if amount is selected - otherwise it could be blank).
*** SUM fields need to be blank for customers who print form and manually enter data & totals...
I am using a Mac, and Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro

I appreciate the reply... (it's been many hours without one)
I tried the validation script, and as you indicated, the only way the total field (with the validation script) appears blank is AFTER the Reset button is clicked. (However I have not checked this in a reader)
I can't see how I can make it work in that manner. Customer inputs Billing & Delivery Addresses at top, then proceeds to select products. If the reset button has to be pressed, all the data (ie. addresses) are removed.
If there was a way to apply the reset function automatically at the opening of the pdf doc. then it would achieve the result I need. I wonder if there isn't a way with a check box at the top that customer clicks which would apply the reset function.
If you (or anyone) has any further tips or help I would appreciate it. This is the last item the client has requested for change.
PS. In case anyone can think of a print script to use... The sum value, when =0 (no qty) needs to print blank sum fields (not $0.00) BUT if there is a sum value, the amount must print (for Ship/Acct Depts)
*** I just thought of something... The only time where the sum value needs to be blank is when customer prints and inputs data by hand.... so, would there be a way to add a print button that can also clear the sum values at the same time with the "reset" function and the validation script???

  • Acrobat 9 Pro fillable form used in website

I created a form in 9 Pro, and I attempted to enable it to be viewed in Reader, but I got a message saying "this form cannot be enabled for Acrobat Reader."  I'm not sure why.  When I insert the form into my website, the link (in IE and Firefox) starts to open, but hen an error message appears saying that the file is corrupted and cannot be opened.  What do I need to do to this form to make it accessable through my website so that people can open it, complete it, and submit it back to me via email?

When I've had this happen, I've started over by creating a new base document and copying the fields and any code over to the new PDF. In cases I'm familiar with, it usually turns out to be a problem with fonts, such as them not being embedded. In any case, you probably won't be able to correct the situation without creating a new form.
If you do create a new base document, you can try doing a "Document > Replace Pages", which keeps the form fields in place and just replaces the underlying page contents.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro: changed text in preflight

I just got an email from a client that there were some errors in the final printed piece. My InDesign file is fine. For some reason the printer wanted this catalog file as a PDFx1a. Usually for a PDF I export from InDesign and then preflight in Acrobat. I figured out that Acrobat preflight CHANGED at least two instances of text and I cannot figure out WHY. It changed "significant" to "signifi cart" -- added a space and made the "n" an "r." Also added a space to the word "align ment" -- which would almost be ironically funny if I wasn't so mad at this program right now.
Anyone seen anything like this before?!

I just did about 100 tests to try and recreate this. I did figure out the "n" in significant didn't change to an "r" -- it just got pushed up against the "t." It's all a spacing issue.
Here's what I have been able to figure out. The text in question is Helvetica Neue (TI) 8 pt on 10.5 pt. It has a paragraph style applied to it, but the font of 65 Medium was an override from the style. The problem occurs when this text is on the same page as a native .psd file with one layer and transparency. It seems that when the preflight does the step of "flatten transparency" the spacing in my text changes. I can't get this to happen by starting from scratch though. The other big problem is the client took the INDD file and worked on the copy separately on a PC in INDD CS3. I then got the file back and did layout on a Mac in INDD CS4. I can't help but think this is the problem, but why preflight would screw up spacing is beyond me.

  • Acrobat 9.0 Changing Form Field Properties

When working with Form Fields in Acrobbat 9.0, how can I quickly and easily change a Text Field to a Check Box field without having to delete and then add in the new field?  I thought right-clicking would do the trick, but it doesn't give me the option to change from a Text field to a Check Box field or vice versa.

Cannot be done. Its like asking how to change a chicken into a duck, they are both fowl but...

  • Acrobat 9 Pro - Change Image Compression/Quality w/ Javascript?

    Hello,
I've got a folder-level script that will merge PDFs by using "insertPages" to add a list of PDFs to a new document. The file size is too large, and I've noticed that if I go into the PDF Optimizer manually and change the Image Settings so the compression quality is "low" for both Color images adn Grayscale images, it brings the file size down to where I need it to be.
My question is, can I do this in my script somehow? I don't see anything in the Javascript Reference or Acrobat SDK about updating images within document. I'd really like to automate this optimization within my script.
Has anyone ever done this before?
    Many thanks in advance!

    Thanks again for your reply!
Well the output folder could change... and really, it would be most ideal to not even save the single PDFs (although it looks like I might have to). All I need to accomplish is to take a folder of PDFs and merge them into one PDF (but it must be optimized and cropped). I don't need the new, saved versions of the single PDFs. I feel like my "automation" solution to this will end up being more tedious than manually clicking "combine" and merging PDFs that way, and applying the crop settings afterward. Maybe I am making this more difficult than it needs to be? Here is what I'm doing:
    1. I have a folder level script that executes when Acrobat loads whichs adds two menu items. The first opens up the Batch Sequences menu so the user doesn't have to find them.
    2. From here, the user will need to run a batch sequence that will optimize and crop each PDF and save them to an output folder.
    3. Now the user will need to run another batch sequence (and choose the output folder from step 2 as the input folder now) that will collect all the file paths of the optimized PDFs.
    4. Now the user can use my other menu item from step 1 that will execute a folder level script and merge the PDFs by inserting them into a new document.
    5. I can prompt the user here to save the new document somewhere.
It seems like there should be an easier way to do this. Is it not possible to merge the PDFs in a batch sequence and then use the output folder to save the one new PDF (rather than each of the input PDFs)?
