Acrobat 8 Security

I am setting security through acrobat 8 pro and initial view to hide menu bar, toolbar and windows control. When I save the file and reopen, it first opens without the menu and toolbar and then they reappear in a few seconds without hitting any keys. Has anyone seen this or have a resolution? Thank you

How are you hiding the menus? It is also easy to get them back with the F8 and F9 keys. I am not sure what this has to do with security.

  • Acrobat 9: security does not work in serial emails

If I create PDF´s as a serial email out of MSWord2003 (XP) or MSWord 2007 (Vista) by the PDFMaker, and set any security options, the security options are ignored in the generated and sended PDF, which means the reciever has none of the set security restrictions and can do everything with this PDF. If I create a "standard" PDF with the same document or convert to PDF and send by email (without serial email) everythings works correctly. What can I do to create serial emails with secure PDF´s?

    Hi Gabriel,
Please try repairing Acrobat from the 'Help' menu and check.
Also check if Acrobat has been updated to the latest patch i.e. v9.5.5

  • Acrobat 9 Security issue

I'm setting up Password Security for editing and printing my PDF which works fine -- But each time I set my compatibility to "Acrobat 6.0 and later" in the Password Security- Settings window, and as soon as I save and reopen the PDF it defaults to "PDF version: 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x)"

You were instruted to turn off you virus software. There's no way Adobe can know what software you have or what you did. Turn it back on.
As an alternative, cookies can be stopped via the browser and/or browser plugins. Google that.
10.x products have cumulative updates and there are far fewer of them.

  • Acrobat X Security Settings Not Working

I made a PDF portfolio with Acrobat X and set password security to not allow any changes. The document title says it is SECURED, but pages can still be extracted. What is going on? What did I miss?

I also tried changing the compatibility from Acrobat 7 and later to Acrobat X and later. Still no go.
Setting security to "any changes except page extraction" is ineffective. The security dialog says that page extraction is not allowed, but I can definitely extract pages. Setting security to "no changes" is also ineffective.
Here is the dialog from "any changes except page extraction"

  • Adobe Acrobat 7 Security Bulletin

    http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb06-20.html
Critical vulnerabilities have been identified in Adobe Reader and Acrobat 7.0 through 7.0.8 that could although Adobe is not aware of any specific code exploits at this time allow an attacker who successfully exploits these vulnerabilities to take control of the affected system.
Adobe Reader 7.0 through 7.0.8 and Adobe Acrobat Standard and Professional 7.0 through 7.0.8 on the Windows platform when using Internet Explorer. Users of other browsers are not affected.
More information available at the above link.

If there are form fields, then whoever added them probably used the forms menu, not the Acrobat form fields. Thus the PDF was converted to Designer and you are out of luck. The FORMS button found in various places in Acrobat 7 and latter takes you to Designer, not the Acrobat form tools. The latter are located in the tools menu.

  • Acrobat Form Security

I've created a pdf form with fillable areas for our sales team. They want to fill it out and then send a non-editable form to their clients. Are there any security options that allow for the fillable areas to be filled by only when putting in a password?
    Thank you.

One thing that the latest versions of Reader allow is using the EchoSign functionality to apply an e-signature and save a copy. It will flatten the form fields and signature, which converts them to regular page objects that can't be further edited with Reader, but someone with Acrobat could.
A more secure method is to apply a digital signature that is set up to lock the file when the signature field is signed. The file won't be further editable in either Reader or Acrobat. When a signature field is signed, the user has the option of locking the document to further changes (if it's the last unsigned signature field in the document) or the signature field can be preconfigured so that the document is always locked when signed. In order to apply a digital signature with Reader, the document must be Reader-enabled with Acrobat before it is distributed. This is the method I'd use.

  • How do I migrate my Acrobat X security policies to Acrobat XI? (I'm on a mac)

I currently have both Acrobat X and XI installed on my Mac OS 10.7.5. All of my security policies, Actions, and other preferences are on X, and I don't know how to move them over to XI. I have a lot of security policies I can't afford to discard. Is there a way to migrate the policies, and hopefully also the Actions/Scripts I made in X? If so, how would I do that?

Look in the following location for the file "security-policy.acrodata":
    /Users/[USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat/10.0/Security/
    Copy it to the location:
    /Users/[USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat/11.0/Security/

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 Security Settings

    Hi,
I'm new to this and will try to be to the point. I am currently running a form created in LiveCycle for the staff at my job. They are accessing the form through Reader 7, but when they click the "Email Submit Button" it is telling them the security settings do not allow the propertyy or method.
I went and checked the security settings and I have no security selected. I am not sure what I am doing wrong, or if this is just Reader not allowing the option at all.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
    -Ken

    Thanks Geo!
I tried "Enable Usage Rights" in Adobe Reader, but that didn't work either. Where can I find the "Extended Reader Forms Rights" option at?
I was thinking I might need LiveCycle ES, but I'm still holding out that I won't. Thanks again for the assist!

  • Acrobat XI - Security Envelope password

When creating a security envelope, there is a choice to NOT require password.
If there is no password, how can the security envelope be secure?
If a password is applied to the security envelope, I assume that the person who receives it must know the password to open the security envelope, correct?

No password doesn't sound very secure. The thing about security envelopes is that they don't add more or better security than you could use otherwise. They are just a way of adding TEMPORARY security that belongs to the envelope, and which is stripped off once the recipient has taken them out of the envelope.
So let's look at the two kinds of security:
    * Password. Not terribly strong security. Of course, you don't send a password protected file and a password in the same email, that's like putting a note on your front door saying "key under the mat". The idea is that you would have already exchanged passwords by a previous SECURE method.
    * Certificate. Potentially more secure. Requires the RECIPIENT to have made a nice certificate which they can share with the WORLD without issues. You (or anyone) can use the certificate to encrypt the document. Only the certificate owner can get at the document (provided they protect their original private certificate properly).
There is no magic bullet for a one-off email that will make it more secure.
That said, any kind of encrypted file, even one without a password, is likely to be slightly resistant to automatic processes and casual prying eyes. Not really security, just caution (like the difference between putting a message in an unsealed envelope versus on the back of a postcard).

  • Acrobat 9 security & copies

I have put password protection on a parent file (in my computer). I have made copies of the file to CD. The problem is that the file is protected as it should be in my computer but the CD copies will not accept password protection. I put in the password protection on the CD but when I try to save and close the CD file I am not allowed to. A message indicates the problem is a read only file or that the file is in use.
Further more I would think that I could put the pass word protection on the parent file (on my computer) and I would be able to make copies by authorizing it to do so. Otherwise I would have to put password protection on every CD copy I make. It just makes more sense to protect the parent file, give it permission to make copies and after the copies are made then the password protection would go back into efect for the parent file. Otherwise if a large number of copies were made there would be no password protection for each copy until each one was assigned the password. My situation is I do not want my file altered, copied or printed from.
I am a novice and any help would be appreciated.
    Thank You

Thank you! From the start, I have put password protection on the PDF. The problem is I cannot print (send to my CD drive)after I put the password protection on. I thought that I would be asked for my password so I could print the file but that does not happen.
    Maybe I have other problems.
I do very much appreciate your time and I know there is something simple I am overlooking.
    Thank You

  • Adobe Acrobat - Digital Signatures Security

    Hi,
The business I am working for is making a push for online fill in forms for simplicity and less paperwork. At the moment they are using word docs with fill in sections that are terrible to deal with and still require you to print them out to sign it.
I have developed a PDF fill in form using Adobe LiveCycle that uses digital signatures. My only worry is how the digital signatures are created. It seems it is fairly easy to create a digital signature for someone else and use it without it being authenticated.
I have done some reading around and it seems to suggest that you are able to intergrate windows user accounts with adobe security somehow, but I am unable to find how to do this. I also don't have access to any of the windows security certificates so I will need to pass on information to the external IT company that manages it for them to do.
So, more specific question: How do I intergrate Adobe Acrobat signatures/security with windows user accounts so that only a specific list of users are able to sign forms.
Or if there is a better way of doing this let me know.
    Thanks

    Hi,
You don't need to do anything. If the user has loaded their digital ID into the Windows Certificate Store (or the Mac Keychain) then Acrobat (and when I say Acrobat I mean both Acrobat & Reader) will pick up the digital ID and make it available at signing time in the Sign Document dialog, "Sign as" drop-down menu.

  • How to export security settings from Acrobat Pro

I'm transferring my Acrobat Pro to a new computer.  Is there a way to export the security settings (passwords) that I have stored and then import them into Acrobat Pro on my new computer?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
The paths you are looking for are:
    Win XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\<user name¹>\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\<ver²>\Security
    Vista \ Win7
    C:\Users\<user name¹>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\<ver²>\Security
¹The user name is the same as the login name
²ver is the major version (e.g. 8.0, 9.0)
Note, if you don't see the folders in the Windows Explorer try the following:
    Start Windows Explorer
Select the Tools > Folder Options menu item
    Select the View tab
Select the Show hidden files and folders radio button
Click the OK button on the Folder Option dialog
    Good hunting,
    Steve
