Acrobat 9.1.1 and javascript bug

Does the latest version of Acrobat, 9.1.1, correct the problem with the javascript bug that was discovered
a few weeks ago and the recommendation to turn off javascript?
Thanks!

I think that I found the answer in the following link:  https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/cve/2009-1492
CVE-2009-1492 refers back to CPSID_49013 which is the latest Adobe update for Acrobat and Reader.

  • PHPSESSID and javascript -- bug or feature?

    I was playing around with Firefox recently and noticed some strange behavior. Logged into a certain webpage, I typed javascript:alert(document.cookie) and got the usual dialog box containing my cookie. Almost. It was missing the PHPSESSID entry. I checked to see that this cookie was indeed being sent, it just didn't show up in the list. My question is this: can this behavior be changed? My assumption is that this is a feature to make cross-site scripting difficult, but can this feature be turned off?

    I have just tested this on a different webpage, and PHPSESSID shows up there. This seems to contradict my hypothesis of XSS prevention.

  • Javascript bug and random frames: alternative solution?

    Hello all,
    I'm working on a SCORM 1.2 compatible eLearning project on Captivate 6.1.0.319 (subscription edition), and I've just come across the bug described very precisely here:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vq9K9lvq-5I
    and here:
    http://www.cpguru.com/warning-adobe-captivate-6-and-javascript-bug/
    Basically, any javascript used in the project would break the SCORM compatibility, either sending wrong completion information to the system, or in my case, also shutting down the eLearning module and also closing the window. This problem occurs only in IE, as other browsers seem to work fine.
    My target group of users is a corporate environment, in which IE is the #1 platform; it's unrealistic to ask for a browser update, so I have to find a solution to be able to publish the project correctly. The same blogger who uncovered the problem wrote that it's possible to receive a patch from Adobe which consists of an updated version of the file Mainmovie.swc to swap in one of the program's directories (more info here:http://www.cpguru.com/fix-for-the-adobe-captivate-6-javascript-bug/ ).
    The problem is that the supposed fix (which you have to request via email and it's not directly downloadable), is said to be available only for Captivate 6.0.xx and not for the 6.1 Subscription edition.
    As my project contains a lot of drag and drop interaction, I cannot afford to downgrade to 6.0 to try to use the patch, and I was wondering if somebody has had the same problem and can help out.
    In detail, I only use javascript in one slide to simulate a random display of rollover images (a button calculates the current position of the playhead and jumps to a random point of the slide, chosen from an array of predefined frame numbers; at every 'stop' there is a different rollover image and a button that makes the playhead jump again to display another 'random' image).
    I was wondering if there is any way to reproduce this behavior not using javascript, so that if there is no fix (I'm obviously in a very tight deadline...), I can get around the problem by avoiding javascript altogether.
    Thank you very much for your help!

    I don't have a solution for you, but I want to compliment you for a great post. I wish others would follow your lead, and include the information about their system, the problem, the steps already taken, etc.
    Have you tried creating a new project, with a new HDV sequence, and editing a short timeline as a test to see if it's a problem with that one timeline or not?

    You can open 6.1 files in Cp version 6.01.  So that IS an option, though albeit probably not a very palatable one if you've just upgraded everyone around you to 6.1.
    If your main reason for developing in 6.1 was the drag and drop interactions, you may not have been aware that there have been AS3 widgets available to do drag and drop in Captivate since version 4.  Those widgets are also now compatible with all Cp versions up to and including 6.01 and 6.1.

  • Acrobat Web Capture cannot convert javascript links...?

    In Matrix (Multiple Listing Service) Acrobat Adobe 10 Standard won't convert javascript links in newly created PDFs Documents from Matrix.   The Error message is : Acrobat Web Capture cannot convert javascript links and the link often does not work correctly when opened in the web browser...
    Is there any javascript download or work around program that can fix this problem?
    Thanks

    Probably not. Pretty hard for Acrobat to handle all of the web JavaScript and possible function calls that could appear on a web page and be located in another directory.
    If this is important to you, you can use the bug report/feature request page at adobe.com..

  • Acrobat X Scanning Cancelled Problem / WORKAROUND / BUG REPORT

    As you have read in other threads, Acrobat X on Windows has a serious scanning problem with HP and possibly other scanners.
    Whereas in Acrobat 9 scanning worked reasonably well, Acrobat X seems to be unable to cope with scanning documents from the flat bed of a multifunction scanner.
    So, if you are scanning from the feeder, scanning works, but if you are scanning from the flatbed, you will get a brief pause and the phrase SCANNING CANCELLED.
    This is, of course, not acceptable.
    The problem is that Acrobat X does not play nicely with the scanner drivers.  Previously, Acrobat 9 would "auto-detect" the source of a document, using the feeder if loaded, and "falling back" to the flatbed otherwise.  However, Acrobat X does not fall back.  If there is nothing loaded in the document feeder, the scan will be cancelled by Acrobat X.
    The workaround - and I would NOT call this a "solution" - is to use only the "Custom Scan" command from Acrobat X.  When the window pops up, choose the "Options" button and select "Native Mode" and "Show Scanner's Native Interface" from the two menus.  (Acrobat X does seem to remember these settings at least within a session, so if you're scanning multiple documents you only need to do this once.)  Then scan.
    You will see a new window pop up - the scanner's "native interface."  On my computer, this window shows up BEHIND the Acrobat X screen (annoyingly) so you have to watch for it and click forward.  Be sure to select "flat bed" from the "document source" menu.  On my computer, this setting is NOT remembered between scans, so you have to do this for EVERY SCAN.  Then, the document will scan, and you can do what you want with it in Acrobat X.
    Needless to say, this is a long, painful, slow process, especially if you're scanning lots of flatbed items, as I do.  Hence it's a "workaround" and NOT a "solution".
    The SOLUTION will be for Adobe to FIX this.  ADOBE:  THIS IS A BUG REPORT.  PLEASE LOG THIS IN AND FIX IT.  Acrobat 9 with CS5 worked perfectly, as did Acrobat 8 before it.  Moving to CS5.5 with Acrobat X broke this.  Sloppy.  Please fix!  Thank you!
    Glen Barney

    I used your workaround (thank you!) but it was very annoying. Although I set up the options for a single multi-page document, Adobe gave me separate files and I had to consolidate them. I also had to fill out the options (color, flatbed vs feeder) for each page. This function was working for me at some point, so I don't know what happened to make my HP Multifunction and Adobe part ways. I hope Adobe comes up with a successful patch for this problem.

  • Acrobat Standard 9.4.5 Known Bugs

    The Acrobat Standard 9.4.5 update broke highlighting the first occurrence of  search text on each page and the ability to select multiple pages from  the thumbnail Page viewer while holding Ctrl down.  Both of these commonly  utilized features work fine on Acrobat 10.  I submitted a bug report online for the former issue.  When are these going to be fixed?  How is it that they work fine on Acrobat 10?  If you are not going to perform basic testing of very common features like searching for text, then please make it possible to uninstall updates to the previous level.

    Hello Michael,
    Thank you for your email.  The file I am trying to convert to PDF and create a form with is a MS Office Word 2003 file.  It isn't any specific file; the issue happens every time.  I type my text in the Word doc and then proceed to open Adobe Acrobat Standard and use the wizard to create a form from an existing file.  I tried to repairing the software but it does not help.  Any other suggestions?  Is this version of software defective?  I really need this feature.  I look forward to your reply.  Thanks.

  • No files opened in Acrobat X when opened via JavaScript (as ActiveXObject)

    Hi together
    In a web application (ASP.Net) we developed, the customers may open, edit and save pdf files. The files are stored on a network drive which is connected over a vpn tunnel. To edit the selected files, Acrobat is opened by a JavaScript from within our application. Then the needed documents are opened in Acrobat. This web application is in use by various clients since about 6 years and worked without problems with Acrobat 5 - Acrobat 9 (all Pro versions). However, in Acrobat X Pro no documents are opened (Acrobat itself is opened but just as an empty window).
    The JavaScript to open Acrobat and the files looks somehow like that:
    objAcro = new ActiveXObject("AcroExch.App");
    objAcro.Show();
    objDoc = new ActiveXObject("AcroExch.AVDoc");
    objDoc.Open("X:\Temp\File.pdf");
    Thank you very much for your help.
    Kind regards
    Thomas

    Hi Sabian
    Thanks for your hints. You pointed me to the right direction. I managed to open and edit the pdf files now, but it's not really very handy for everyday use. With the following settings, the documents are opened:
    - Enhanced security is switched on (files are not opened if switched off)
    - Protected view may not be set to off
    - I entered the url and the \\server\share where the documents are stored to the trusted sites
    So far, so good. But for every single file which is opened in Acrobat, I have to click the "activate all functions" button to be able to edit the files. This is not realistic in production because users edit more than 100 documets a day...
    Do you know if there is a possibility to confirm "activate all functions" once for all documents opened from trusted sites?
    Thank you for your efforts.

  • Issue with Acrobat 10.1.2 and Windows 7 64-bit Preview Handler

    Hi. I work in an enterprise environment that is currently migrating to  64-bit Windows 7. The only version of Acrobat we have approved for Windows 7 is 10.1.2. We're seeing an issue with this version that causes the preview handler to not work. The preview panel in Explorer is just white and will eventually give the error "Preview handler surrogate host has stopped working."  I've tried to fix listed on http://www.pretentiousname.com/adobe_pdf_x64_fix/index.html but that registry key is already correct. Our current work around for these users to just install Reader X1 and make it the default PDF handler, but I would like to find a better solution. Is there a known issue with Acrobat 10.1.2 and 64-bit operating systems? Or is there a way to change just the default preview handler?

    Most of the info on the web page you link to is 2-4 years old. I doubt it applies. Your workaround is actually the best solution: It's always preferred to use the latest PDF viewer. Reader and Acrobat can exist on the same machine.
    Also, why 10.1.2? There have been 6 releases since then with documented security enhancements (meaning there are also published vulnerabilities which are patched), bug fixesm, and feature enhancments.
    I'll ping some folks about the error you are getting. . .

  • Safari not rendering CSS and javascript correctly

    There seems to be a bug in Safari when dealing with CSS display property and javascript.
    I've created a form that hides certain fields when the right circumstances are met, those fields become visible. However, when they become visible, through the use of javascript, they don't display in the flow of the document. For example:
    [field 1]
    [field 2]
    [field 3]
    Assume that [field 2] is hidden on initial page load. And when [field 1] is clicked, then [field 2] should appear and it should appear after [field 1]. Safari, however, displays [field 2] above [field 1] and strips it of any styles. I spent 2 hours trying to figure out what I was doing wrong, but it turns out I wasn't doing anything wrong. It's Safari that can't render this correctly because when I test it in Firefox it works fine. Just as I expected it to. I hope this gets fixed in the next update.
    If anyone has any explanation or solutions or reasons for this peculiar anomaly please tell me.

    If you have not done so already, make sure you also tell Apple by using the Bug Reporting item in the Safari menu.

  • Error using java and javascript

    I have a jsp page that links to a bean and is working fine (getting data from the database).
    On a html form I have a button with a picture that fires off javascript when clicked:
    <BUTTON TYPE=reset onclick=showinfo('<%=index%>')>
    <IMG SRC="http://localhost:8080/Portal/Images/q2.bmp" ALT="Info">
    </BUTTON>
    The javascript function just opens a new window and displays the text sent in:
    <Script Language=JavaScript>
    function showinfo(arrayindex)
    InfoWin=window.open("","InfoWin","width=345,height=220");
    InfoWin.document.write(arrayindex);
    return false;
    </Script>
    Well in the above example index is a number (pulled from the database using a java bean and javascript converts it into a string then the function displays it correctly. If I replace <%=index%> with regular text it works fine as well(because java isn't used to pull data)! The problem occurs when I retrieve text data from the database and send it to the function. The web page gives errors about a nonterminating string. But I can move the code to somewhere else on the form(as long as I don't send it to java script) and it will print the text to the screen. I can also view the source of the web page and the html shows the text from the data base as if I hard coded the text into the javascript!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    This must be a bug between java and javascript!
    -can pass numbers(from a database) between the two
    -can't pass text (from a database)between the two
    Any info would help!

    Found the problem myself!
    I am using an odbc connection to msaccess and the spaces in the text was messing things up!
    After taking out the spaces it worked again.

  • Major JavaScript bug - form variables not submitted

    I'm building a page where data is submitted to Paypal via a form and using Javascript to build Select statements on the fly. These appear as expected, but when the form is submitted none of the variables are POSTed through. The same page works perfectly in IE so there must be a major bug in Firefox's impementation of Javascript - this is a total show-stopper for the page I need to implement.
    Go to the URL below and then check availability for type of room ANY. On the booking confirmation page if you leave the first select alone and hit the Pay Now button you will arrive at a debug page that dumps all the POST variables in a new window. Now go back and change the room type in the first select statement just above Pay Now - this updates the second select. Maybe even click it again to go back to the original setting. Now click Pay Now - nothing comes through from the select statement and some associated hidden vars.
    Try it in IE and it works just like it should.

    There seems to be an issue with FF and InnerHTML when a form is in a table. By moving the form tag around I was able to place it within the table definition so that it works in FF.

  • How is the length of a string calculated in Java?  and JavaScript?

    Hi all,
    Do any of you know how the length of a string is being calculated in Java and JavaScript? For example, a regular char is just counted as 1 char, but sometimes other chars such as CR, LF, and CR LF are counted as two. I know there are differences in the way Java and JavaScript calculate the length of a string, but I can't find any sort of "rules" on those anywhere online.
    Thanks,
    Yim

    What's Unicode 4 got to do with it? 1 characteris 1
    character is 1 character.
    strings now contain (and Java chars also) is
    UTF-16 code units rather than Unicode characters
    or
    code points. Unicode characters outside the BMPare
    encoded in Java as two or more code units. So it would seem that in some cases, a single
    "character" on the screen, will require two charsto
    represent it.So... you're saying that String.length() doesn't
    account for that? That sux. I don't know. I'm just making infrerences (==WAGs) based on what DrClap said.
    I assume it would return the number of chars in the array, rather than the number of symbols (glyphs?) this translates into. But I might have it bass ackwards.

  • Error (150:30) for Acrobat Pro 9.3 and PS 3 & 4 CS

    I just had a very nice call with a support person at the 800 number, but I thought that I would still post my problem in the hopes that it might still help move towards a solution.
    I lost use of Acrobat Pro 9.5.1 back in early June when I updated my MAC OS to Lion (OS X 10.7.4). After I upgraded to Lion, Acrobat Pro 9.5.1 stopped working and started giving me a notice saying, "Suite Product Activation Needed".
    I unistalled the program and then reinstalled Acrobat Pro 9.3.0 from the orginal Adobe CS 5 Design Standard disk. At that point I found that the reinstall still did not work and had created an additional set of problems. I stopped working on this because I was leaving my main office for the summer and figured that I would survive short term with Adobe Reader. I also figured a patch would present itself given enough time.
    Now that I am back, I've found the time to revisit this. I am wondering if I somehow missed an opportunity to fix this because Lion upgraded to Mountain Lion and I upgraded the Mac OS before finding a fix for Acrobat.
    I spent most of yesterday working on this and this is what I found:
    1) I cannot not upgrade Acrobat Pro at all. It is stuck on version 9.3.0. This is important because I saw 9.5.2 was released and, if it has a patch, I cannot use it because I can't get back to 9.5.1.
    2) I have been all over the boards looking for a solution. I did find the Support Document #51260 (which phone support directed me to as well). This document, "Error 'Licensing has stopped working'|MAC OS", outlines fixes up through Lion, but has not been updated to Mountion Lion.
    3) From document #51260, I went ahead and downloaded LicenseRecoveryLauncher to have it. The problem, however, is this is a PowerPC app and Mounton Lion no longer supports PowerPC apps.
    4) Because of document #51260, I tried opening my older Photoshop programs from CS 4 and CS 3. I get the same (150:30) notice with Photoshop CS4 ver 11.0.2 and just a notice saying that Licensing has topped working with Photoshop CS3 version 10.0.1.
    5) Since I'm writing this, I find that I am getting the same Licensing notice for Illustartor CS 3 & 4 and In Design CS 3 & $.
    6) The one program that I can use is Photoshop CS 5 Version 12.0.4
    As I said earlier, I am wondering if I didn't miss a window of some sort to fix this by not seeing the fix for Lion as described in Document #51260. I am also wondering if the problems are related to the fact the Mac no longer supports PowerPC apps.
    Regardless, the problem of not being able to run Acrobat Pro 9 still exists for me and the current fix document does not solve the issue for Mountain Lion. Is there an updated fix that does?
    I am running:
    Mac Pro (Early 2008)
    Processor  2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
    Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB
    Software  Mac OS X 10.8.1 (12B19))
    PS - I tried downloading Acrobat 9.5.1 and when I click on the installer I get a warning message saying "AcroProUpd951_all" is an application froman unkown source and am I sure that I want to open it. I did open it, but it does not run a program. It takes me to Mac HD/users/My User Name/Documents/Acrobat User Data and then there is nothing to select. I can't even slect the Acrobat Pro Icon in the apps folder. My web browser is Firefow 15.0

    The problem is; when I past copied text from some pdf books (not all of them) it past symbols only! wherever I past it! and even if I coped that text from another pdf reader (adobe pdf reader, internet browsers, ...etc.).
    This problem started to happen since yesterday when I installed adobe acrobat reader XI pro to try it before I buy it, and before that when I was using the free adobe pdf reader I was totally able to copy any text from any pdf and past it anywhere with nothing wrong.
    What can I do?
    thank you a lot.
