Acrobat 9.4 now almost unusable

I posted a question about a week ago, 31 views but sadly no suggestions.
I've had Acrobat Pro running now for a couple of months, but over the last couple of weeks it is taking longer and longer for every action, it loads files normally but the response time for every click is more than ten seconds. It really has become practically unusable, even as a simple PDF reader.
I have tried contacting Adobe support, but every time I try and 'send' the email I end up with an 'I'm sorry an error has occurred' etc. I've had to give up trying.
My question is twofold, anybody got any ideas about the slowing down and anybody got any ideas about how I can contact Adobe?
The strange thing is that it used to work perfectly, I've uninstalled and reinstalled it, and checked on FAQs, but have found no answers, just hoping somebody out there can help.

  • My iMac is now almost unusable! Thanks Lion!!

Upgraded to 10.7.2 Lion and now my system is so slow it's rendered itself almost unusable. On top of that my internet drops out at every gust of wind, resulting in my having to restart it every 15 minutes!! We are a retail comany ramping up big time now for Xmas printing and I can't work with this any more. On top of that, my machine has spent 4 days in the apple store being rebuilt from scratch, thanks to Lion upgrade!!
Thanks, Apple - to whom do I complain please?!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software -- potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions -- they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are four lines of text in monospaced type, which are UNIX shell commands. They’re harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of running these commands, search this site for other discussions in which they’ve been used without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap in your browser, but each one is really just a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
To begin, launch the Terminal application; e.g., by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search. A text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Copy or drag -- do not type -- the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk ' !/com\.apple/ { print $6 $7 } '
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|com\.vix|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
    Step 4
    ls -1A {,/}Library/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Sta}* 2> /dev/null
Important: If you synchronize with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, change it to something like “[email protected]” before posting.
Remember, steps 1-4 are all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer -- no typing, except your password.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Updated 9.0 Beta (20111212185108) a few days ago. Now having "Not Responding" message almost everytime I use Firefox. Long delays until it responds. Almost unusable now.

Downloaded update to Firefox 9.0 Beta (20111212185108) on 12-16-11. Update status was successful. Now Firefox delays with "Not Responding" message almost every time I click on something. Browser is almost unusable.

You are welcome. I'm glad you got it back up.
    (1) You say you did the symbolic link. I will assume this is set correctly; it's very important that it is.
    (2) I don't know what you mean by "Been feeding the [email protected] for several weeks now, 700 emails each day at least." After the initial training period, SpamAssassin doesn't learn from mail it has already processed correctly. At this point, you only need to teach SpamAssassin when it is wrong. [email protected] should only be getting spam that is being passed as clean. Likewise, [email protected] should only be getting legitimate mail that is being flagged as junk. You are redirecting mail to both [email protected] and [email protected] ... right? SpamAssassin needs both.
    (3) Next, as I said before, you need to implement those "Frontline spam defense for Mac OS X Server." Once you have that done and issue "postfix reload" you can look at your SMTP log in Server Admin and watch as Postfix blocks one piece of junk mail after another. It's kind of cool.
    (4) Add some SARE rules:
Visit http://www.rulesemporium.com/rules.htm and download the following rules:
    70sareadult.cf
    70saregenlsubj0.cf
    70sareheader0.cf
    70sarehtml0.cf
    70sareobfu0.cf
    70sareoem.cf
    70sarespoof.cf
    70sarestocks.cf
    70sareunsub.cf
    72sare_redirectpost
Visit http://www.rulesemporium.com/other-rules.htm and download the following rules:
    backhair.cf
    bogus-virus-warnings.cf
    chickenpox.cf
    weeds.cf
    Copy these rules to /etc/mail/spamassassin/
Then stop and restart mail services.
There are other things you can do, and you'll find differing opinions about such things. In general, I think implementing the "Frontline spam defense for Mac OS X Server" and adding the SARE rules will help a lot. Good luck!

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

  • Update to 10.10.3 Failed Now MacPro is Almost Unusable

The update to 10.10.3 failed -- got stuck at 99% so I powered down and after many attempts I got back to the desktop.  I am now still on 10.10.2 but my MacPro has slowed to a crawl.  I was advised that Yosemite needs more memory (I have 2GB) so I ordered 8GB more and it's on its way.  However I need to use my computer but it's almost unusable -- programs open so slow then automatically shut down.  I really don't think the memory will fix this as I've been running Yosemite for a while and just in the last few days has it been brought to it's knees.
Is there anything else that I can check to see why it is so so so slow?
    Thanks

    - Try resetting the iPod. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next, restore from backup.

There is no serial number and you don't need one. What you need for a subscription is to SIGN IN within Acrobat, so it knows the subscriptions you own.

  • I was told Adobe Acrobat 8 was now being given way for free?

I was told Adobe Acrobat 8 was now being given way for free?
Can you confirm whether or not this is true and if so what are the terms of the license and where can we gain access?
If this is true can a business use it?
Any information on this would be great!!
    Thank you!

This is wrong. Someone is lying, and others are repeating this (in innocence). This is very ungelpful and damaging for businesses who may face a software audit. Adobe would have no reason to do this. The same wrong claims are made for Acrobat 7.

  • IOS 8.02 rendered my iPad 3 almost unusable

Updated my iPad3 to iOS 8.02 last week and now it's slow, unresponsive, and now practically unusable. I've read that many others are having this issue. Any word on a fix for this?
    Examples of the numerous problems:
wifi dropped, even when I'm on campus, inside a building with a good connection
pages only half load, even on an excellent wifi and 4G connection.
    apps very slow to load
five finger app close doesn't work all the time.
    unresponsive to taps at times
    typing very slow
I've powered down and things are OK for awhile, then malfunction again.  I was planning on buying a new iPad mini, but after this, I'm leaning towards a non-Apple tablet.  I need my iPad for work, but I've had to downgrade to my PC this week.  Everything worked just fine until I made the mistake of installing the update.

Well, there are basically two or three ways to do this. One can be an involved user and try to do one thing or another and work on solutions themselves (just as we do here on this forum). Or they can pay a service company (someone other than Apple) to solve problems for them. Or they can have Apple solve the problem for them, and keep current on a warranty and upgrade as needed for new devices and keep warranties in effect.
I choose the third option and a bit of the first option ... as to how I deal with these things.
As far as Apple being responsible ... if it's something that is strictly related to Apple's upgrade, then yes they should be responsible ... and they do act responsibly in that they take all the Customer Support issues and see if there is a bug and that it needs to be fixed. If so, from the Customer Support issues that they have logged, Apple WILL fix it. That's guaranteed.
But, there are other instances where these problems that crop up are related to something corrupted or squirrely in a particul model or with particular users or something that really has no bug fix at all. In other words, a bug fix is not required because it's not a bug. It's something else. That something else could be a hardware failure or it could be corrupted files or some other unknown thing that is not a bug. You'll have to either step through the process yourself or have someone else step through it for you.
This is just the way it is with computers and electronic devices like these iOS devices ... and it has been that way for 30 years that I've been familiar with them (all of these kinds of devices ... that is, not just iOS devices).

  • 2010 Macbook Pro is running SUPER slow.  Almost unusable.

My 2010 Macbook Pro is running so slow that it's almost unusable due to the buffering of data and the color wheel spinning incessantly.  I close applications, restart and nothing helps.  I have not downloaded any clean up software.  I teach and am dependent on my computer for EVERYTHING I do.
    HELP PLEASE!!

Back up your Mac if you have not already done so. To learn how to use Time Machine read Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support
Determine if the same problems exist in "Safe Mode". Read below.
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.
If you are still experiencing problems more information will be required. If you don't know where to start, EtreCheck can help with that. Read below.
Apple Support Communities contributor etresoft wrote a very useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem. Read about it here. It contains a link to download EtreCheck. Do not download it from anywhere else (such as may be found by following the results of an Internet search).
Click Open - etresoft contributes to this forum frequently and can be considered a trustworthy developer.
It will take a moment to run as it collects its data.
Copy and paste its output in a reply.
Do not be concerned about anything that says "Problem" or “failed” or anything else that may appear in red.
EtreCheck was designed to remove any personal information (such as your computer's name and serial numbers) but if you see anything that looks like an email address or any other personal information that should not be divulged to others, please delete or obscure that information when you post the reply.
When you are finished with EtreCheck, quit the program. It occupies very little space, and you can keep it or drag it to the Trash as you wish.

  • Adobe Acrobat - "No valid serial number found. Acrobat will quit now" message

I moved some things around on my computer from the C drive to the D drive to make space, including Adobe Acrobat professional 6.0. Now, when I go to open it, I get the message "No valid serial number found. Acrobat will quit now". I have tried moving everything back to where it was, but that does not work. I do not have the CD to reinstall it, but I do have the serial number. Where do I go to enter the serial number? After the message pops up, Acrobat closes altogether and will not let me do anything.

I have exactly the same problem as Oxbay - but, I do have the CD & the serial number. When reinstalling the program, it just loads, never gives me the opportunity to save to a specific drive (which caused the problem in the first place), enter the serial number, or ask which type of installation (full or custom). I use the program erratically so no intention of upgrading to 8.0 Professional, but do need the program. You can't get into the "Help" section for a detect or repair issue. Any other suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you!
