Acrobat 9.5.2 preflight
Installed 9.5.2 and preflight is now disabled from print production toolbar and missing from print production menu. ???
This is certainly odd.
If you go to the Advanced menu, is it still there? When you say it's disabled, do you mean it's grayed out?

Acrobat 9 Pro Extended Preflight Profiles missing
When I navigate to the Preflight window via Advanced>Preflight, I don't see any profiles. I think there is supposed to be a list of default items, but mine is empty. Is there a setting whereby I can view profiles? I sent my doc to my coworker and she can see the profiles, but I can't.
Help would be appreciated,
JeffI located the profiles in the program folders. I imported one of them and it repopulated the list with all of them.

Acrobat Professional Windows 9.1.3 Crashing in Preflight Droplet
Hi,
I created a preflight droplet using Acrobat Professional 9.1.3 in Windows XP SP2 and when I run the droplet I'm getting the message "DDEHandler unhandeled exception caught!". This message appears in every scenario I tried:
- Acrobat running before the file is dropped in the droplet icon
- Acrobat not running before the file is dropped in the droplet icon
- Acrobat running before I started the droplet in the command-line
- Acrobat not running before I started the droplet in the command-line
Eve scenario was tried with a pre-built profile and a custom profile. Nothing works!!!!
If I run the same preflight profile normally in Acrobat (not as droplet), the preflight runs ok, with no error.
Any clue?
It's a trial Acrobat Pro. I'm planning to buy a license if the preflight works...
I just downloaded Acrobat Pro for Mac and I found a very similar crash (of course, with a different error message but with the same conditions) and there's a thread opened in Acrobat Mac forum since February with no solution from Adobe. I'll look for a competitive solution, it seems Adobe isn't interested in provide a decent solution.
The Acrobat's preflight tool is made by a german company, Callas Software, and this company sells similar preflight products (with additional functions and higher prices). Callas' products work very fine in Mac and in PC.
If you need a scriptable preflight, please forget Adobe Pro 9....

Lorenzohttp://forums.adobe.com/message/2907499#2907499 – as you say the same error occurs in OS X. Here is the corresponding mac-thread with a bit more information (applying both to Windows and OS X). Note that despite the error Acrobat DOES perform the preflight, but has to be restarted after.
It is an issue with Acrobat 9, and the possible (not very good) workarounds can be summarised as:
Use Acrobat 8 instead
Check the box for making a summary PDF
Do not generate detailed reports
If you are scripting etc. you might also find a way that automates restarting Acrobat after each preflight (yay...) or that closes the summary PDF created after each preflight (if that options is used).
And yeah, I do hope Adobe fixes it as Acrobat does have a whole lot of powerful preflight/fixup tools built in and it's a shame the droplets are broken. -

Regrettably, I have not been able to reproduce this problem on my MacOS 10.9.5 with any of my sample PDF files.
Some additional questions:
(1) Does this happen with any and all PDF files you attempt to apply this Preflight profile to?
(2) Are you simply checking or fixing using the profile?
(3) Does Acrobat crash when using other, similar profiles? If so, which do crash and which don't?
(4) Are you using the English version of Acrobat or some other language version?
(5) Do you have any plug-ins installed?
Let me know the answers to these questions and we will try to proceed from there.

Preflight Droplet/Acrobat Startup Automation Problems
Hello,
We're experiencing some problems regarding preflight droplets not being executed for some instances when the Acrobat XI application
(Acrobat Pro XI and Windows XP) is not yet opened before the preflight droplet is executed (Acrobat is started/opened due to the preflight droplet call but it doesn't execute the preflight droplet anymore).
If Acrobat is not yet opened and we executed the droplet, Acrobat opens and loads but the preflight action is not executed (we waited for a long time thinking Acrobat is still warming up but nothing really happens), we tried executing preflight droplet again (with the opened faulty Acrobat) and still does nothing. We needed to close Acrobat and reopen manually before we execute the preflight droplet for it to work again. Note that we are executing the preflight droplet using the commandline using our program (java) and not using drag and drop. Seems Acrobat is still initializing so it wasn't able to queue the preflight process... Note though that this does not happen all the time.
Can anyone from Adobe check if this is a known issue?
Currently, the only resolution is to manually open Acrobat and open the preflight window and let it initialize and close the preflight window again and leave acrobat open before executing executing the droplet (which is a bit troublesome if we want to automate opening Acrobat when server is restarted or just turned on)
Please advise if there is a fix for this? Or is there a way to initialize the preflight preferences on startup of Acrobat via commandline line or any other option.

Acrobat preflight droplet 8.1.2 & leopard 10.5
there seems to be an issue creative preflight droplets with the newest 8.1.2 update for acrobat. after creating the droplet, the application fails to launch. just bounces once and stops. i have attempted to rebuild the prebindings and tries different settings. the error in the console log is as follows:

i dont know if this is a dynamic library issue - cfm library issue - etc, but as far as i know it worked within version 8.0.
anyone else having issues or workarounds? adobe any help on this?When creating (or editing) droplets in Acrobat 8.1.2 Preflight on Mac there seems indeed to be an issue - the droplets do not run. Nevertheless, using/running a droplet that was created in 8.0, 8.1 or 8.1.1 still works.

Targeting Acrobat from a script begun in InDesign
My goal:
Export a pdf, have the pdf open in Acrobat and run a preflight setting.
I can get the pdf to open but InDesign is still the active application. What is the code to target Acrobat.
I've tried:

because I found #target "InDesign" would target the latest InDesign version.
Bonus points: Help with selecting the preflight setting would be helpful too.

Preflight droplet process returns too early – before it's done
I'm calling an Acrobat preflight DROPLET from program that I'm writing, and I need to know when the files are ready, that is when the preflight fixups are done.
I need to know this in order to go on with some other file system stuff in my program, that needs to be done after the preflight fixups.
I guess the droplet just tells Acrobat what to do, and then exits. The Droplet process stays up for a while but exits before the work is done.
There is an question from 2009 asking the exact same thing, but no answer. Preflight droplet returns too early
Since it's in a locked section of the forum I venture to ask the same question now, six years later.
Checking the modified dates of all files does not seem to work since a preflight obviously does not alter files that are not in need of being altered.
I'm on windows, and I don't know whether this is a platform dependent problem.
What should I do?

Preflight droplet returns too early
I want to convert a color PDF into grayscale. So I created a new preflight profile where nothing happens except color fixup:
Advanced > Print Production > Preflight
PDF Fixups > Convert to Grayscale
I saved the profile and created a Droplet named grey.exe.
When I call grey.exe smallSize_1MB.pdf everything is fine. But when I have to convert a PDF having big filesize like grey.exe bigSize_160MB.pdf the Droplet .exe process returns before the preflight is done.
Problems: A script (e.g. a batch file) continues without waiting for the Droplet to finish. So the script cannot make use the Droplet's result, e.g. a preflight report or the converted PDF file.
Why does the Droplet's .exe process return too early? Everybody can test this with the help of the attached Droplet and the following batch scripts:
smallSize.bat (use something small, e.g. 1 MB or smaller):
copy /Y smallSize.pdf tmp.pdf
grey.exe tmp.pdf
echo "return"
pause
bigSize.bat (use something really big, e.g. 160 MB or bigger):
copy /Y bigSize.pdf tmp.pdf

I like to esign recieved acrobat forms but that file is rejected at the end of upload.
(The forms returns to my mail in-box after completed by the resonder, ordinary Acrobat Forms )
How can I 'transform' that file into an ordinary pdf that will not be rejected.
This couestion leads into a more general question about what files you can esign.
I have been testing a bit with portfolios with and without secured files.
The reason for this testing is to stamp a secure time on the file.
The uploads are mostly rejected.

regardsI'd have to check for sure, but one issue with forms is that you can change the data after signing, which is probably not the behavior you would like to see.
You can flatten the form fields in a PDF which brings the data into the main document layer and makes it uneditable.
Ordinary PDF forms (acroforms) are pretty easy to flatten.
In Acrobat Pro, choose Advanced>Preflight and go to the Fixup category. Choose Flatten Form Fields and Annotations.
You can also flatten form fields by using the PDF Optimizer.
If you only have Acrobat Standard, you can print to the Adobe PDF Printer driver to flatten the document or use a script to flatten the form.

Acrobat 11 keeps crashing **HELP**
The problem happens 9 out of 10 times, when I go to drawing markups and pick out a tool to use and attempt to draw on an existing pdf, the draw object does not show up and the program stops responding and never recovers. Only way to continue is to exit out and close program (losing all my work)
I have a nearly new PC with windows 8.1. my only troubleshooting so far was to uninstall acrobat thinking it was corrupt software and reinstall and the exact problem still exists.

Launch Acrobat>Tools>Print Production>Preflight>PDF Analysis>Select the suitable option and then click on the Analyze and Fix option tab at the bottom of that dialog box.

Creating PDF/X-1a:2001 with Acrobat Pro 9
My printer demands that files be submitted in PDF/X
-1a:2001 and suggests that postscript files be created first than run through Distiller. My document was not created with InDesign or another Adobe product but I can output a .ps file. Should that be PostScript level 1, 2 or 3 or does it matter? Is Distiller Part of Acrobat Pro 9? Will Acrobat embed fonts and convert images to CMYK? And of course, can PDF/X-1a:2001 be selected as the output format?

TomI should have taken a look at Scribus before responding—Scribus does not interact with Acrobat like other programs I use do. My experience primarily involves other Adobe products like InDesign and Illustrator and Microsoft products like the Office suite, Visio and CorelDraw.
I downloaded and tested Scribus today and found that my fonts were being converted to outlines in Scribus instead of being preserved as embedded fonts. As you suggested, the resulting pdf page became an image instead of a combination of image and text and there does not seem to be a way to override this behavior (at least for the fonts I tested). The answer may be painfully obvious to Scribus pros out there, but I am stumped unless the font's license prevents embedding. For the "rely on system fonts" setting, you would almost always leave it checked. When creating a pdf, hover your cursor over the option and a description will pop up that may be helpful.
It seems like there is some confusion regarding spot and process colors. All of my needs except for certain runs of business cards would best be served with process colors instead of spot colors. Scribus has a wiki page on spot colors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spot_color) and About.com has a page that may also be helpful (http://desktoppub.about.com/od/colorprinting/a/spotprocesswhen.htm). RGB is a color model for electronic devices, not for printers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rgb)—what you see on your screen may or may not be close to what you would see on paper. Another color consideration would be the type of paper you will be using. There could be significant differences in color appearance when printed on coated versus matte stock, etc.
I do not have a printer here now to test how my example document pdf actually looks when printed on paper. The on-screen quality did not appear to be top quality, though I have a lot to learn about the available Scribus settings. I did change the default resolutions from screen to printer quality.
Once you have your colors worked out and just to add another pdf option into the mix: you could use Scribus' export to an eps file. After the file is created, you could right click and choose "Convert to AdobePDF". With the pdf open in Acrobat go to Advanced > Preflight > Standards > PDF/X-1a:2001 (check Apply Corrections) and save. -
Search function not working correctly
I have a problem searching in a specific document. For some reason, the search function only seems to sift through certain fonts, or types of text. The main text is not included in the search, but rather only (for example) the Table of Contents and some "examples" (in a special font) in the text. Everything else is omitted.
When I copy/paste the main text, it's pasted as a strange code in this fashion, despite the fact that it's quite readable in it's original form:
äíÉí=áåíÉ=Ü~ê=Ñí
This is probably the reason why Search can't find terms in the main text, as searchable text looks quite right when copy/pasted. But how can I solve the problem?

DavidDid you check under the file Properties to see if the fonts are embedded? If they are not, you can reembed the fonts if you have Acrobat Pro using the Preflight tools.
