Acrobat 9 on Windows 7 - cannot open
At work we have a number of users running Windows 7 Pro x86 and Acrobat 9 Standard. Within the past two weeks I've had 3 users running this setup complain to me that they've been periodically seeing an issue where they cannot open a PDF file. After examining the situation I find that there are multiple instances of Acrobat hung up in the background. Once I kill all of these instances via Task Manager, I can open Acrobat just fine.
I'm wondering if the most recent Acrobat update (9.3.2) could possibly be causing this issue?
Hey jeroenb16613921,
Please specify exactly when you get this white popup screen. While opening a PDF or launching Acrobat by double-clicking on the Acrobat icon.
If it comes when opening a PDF, then where is this PDF actually stored?
Let me know more on the same so that I can analyze the issue.
Regards,
Anubha

Still unable to download itunes to my pc. Tried with IE, Mozilla and Google Chrome. Keep getting an error message :"Windows cannot open itunes.exe the file is corrupt contact support."previous itunes files were wipped out by "disk cleaner." Any help??
Please!
Thanks! If anyone is reading this still looking for what caused the issue and how to fix it here is what I discovered.
The antivirus program our company uses, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, was causing some of the PDF files not to open. After troubleshooting the different modules and settings the culprit was..
Scan SSL in Privacy Control Settings. Turning it OFF solved the problem and all the PDF files that previously would not open now open just fine. This issue has been sent to Bitdefender for them to review. If you use a different antivirus program and are having this issue try locating the Scan SSL setting and see if turning it off solves the problem. -

Installing CS5.5, got an error window that says "windows cannot open this file"
I download the CS5.5 files. Clicked on the larger file to open it and received an error window stating that "windows cannot open this file". Any suggestions?
@caroline,
are both files in the same directory?
are you clicking the exe, not the 7z?
if yes to both, right click the exe and click 'run as administrator'.
if that fails, run the cleaner (Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6) and then click the exe. -
iTunes movies won't play. (Previously others worked fine.) When I open the movies i get the window "Cannot Open". Internet connection is fine, payment went thru fine. Please advise...thx!
Thankyou for the two replies.
I have some good news but I still am concerned about why this happened?
Using iTunes, I deleted then re-synced the video files that wouldn't play and now all of them play again.
As I don't know why this problem occured, I am concerned about it happening again...it is NOT fun to have to delete and reload all of these vids, but, at least I know that there is some kind of "workaround"!
If anyone has an idea of WHY this happened and, perhaps how to prevent it in the future, I would appreciate that input despite the fact that all my vids now play again.

I have a Windows XP computer and accidentally formatted the C:\ Drive. I then decided to buy the Windows Vista CD installation and popped it into the CD Drive, there was a problem with the Drive so I had to move it onto a USB Drive instead(on another computer).
When I booted my PC(C: Drive formatted) all went well until I typed in the product key and clicked next. It shows a dialog box:
Install Windows
Windows cannot open the required file E:\Sources\Install.wim. The file may be
corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and
restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070570
I am in urgent need of help immediately. Please help me!
P.S. and thanks for advance for any help. Sorry for anyone with the same problem.
PC info: HP dc5750 Small Form FactorIt sounds like there's a problem with that file. You will need to re-copy the files to USB or even re-download the operating system from Microsoft.

Acrobat Reader 9 cannot open pdf attachement to email
My os is xp. After installing Reader 9, I cannot open pdf attahement to incoming email. The error message is "the file does not have a program associated with it", even though I have already associated pdf with Reader 9 in Folder Option. If I save the pdf attachement to a different folder I am able to open it.
Maybe I need to rever to Reader 8. If someone cannot solve the error message, maybe can tell me where I can get Reader 8 as it is not in the Adobe free download.I have no problem opening PDF attachments that arrive in my Outlook 2003 Inbox; they open fine with Adobe Reader 9. It may be an issue with your email client.
But if you think that Adobe Reader 8 will fix it, you can download it from http://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/8.x/8.1.3/enu/AdbeRdr813_en_US.exe - make sure that you uninstall Reader 9 first (and Acrobat.com & Adobe AIR). -
Downloaded iTunes but Windows cannot open file
I am on my shiny new Toshiba notebook and I cannot open the iTunes program I just downloaded. When I try to open and run it I get a Windows message that it needs to know what program created it. How do I open a .pf file? I never had this problem on my other computer with iTunes. It doesn't show up in the run/remove program window when I try to uninstall it? I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.
Hi, if the downloaded kuler file is a .ASE file InDesign
should recognize it. Can you give some steps to repro (e.g., first
I find a theme I like in the kuler desktop, then I go to kuler and
download it... etc.) and your OS/browser info? That really helps

Safari for windows cannot open PDF files
I'm posting this topic because it was archived in 2009 without a solution.
When clicking a pdf link in Safari for windows (4.0.3) it opens a new window but does not show the pdf. The window remains blank with "canceled opening page" in the status bar.
For me this hangup was caused by the environment variables TEMP and TMP being set to an inaccessible location.
Basically, to open a pdf file Safari needs to safe it to a temporary location. Then Adobe reader can open it from that location. The location is set in the environment variables TEMP and TMP. For me they were set to "D:\Temp", however D was a CD drive hence the file could not be saved let alone opened.
Solution: Go to Control Panel>System>Advanced tab>Environment Variables then check/change the user variables TEMP and TMP to something you are sure is accessible like "C:\Temp".
If this solution works for you please write up a response. Good luck. There needs to be a way in Safari (or in Acrobat or Windows) to say "if you download a PDF file from Safari, launch Acrobat and open that file."
I'm not on a Windows machine to check at the moment, but in the Mac version you can set in the Safari preferences an option to 'Open safe files after downloading'. I wouldn't be surprised if this were missing from the Windows version though due to the additional security implications this could have on Windows. There is no ability to configure different files types to be opened by specific applications from within Safari, unlike Firefox for example.
You can however open files simply by double clicking the icon in the Downloads window that Safari pops up when a download occurs.
... how I tell Apple there needs to be an option to allow Safari to push streamed or downloaded file types to their correct creator application?
On a Mac, Safari menu -> Report Bugs to Apple...
On a Windows PC, Safari Help Menu -> Report Bugs to Apple... (I think) -
Acrobat reader XI cannot open pdfs from IE9
My pc has IE9, windows 7. After I installed Acrobat reader XI, I can no longer open pdfs from a secure website. Can anyone help?
"Internal Error Occurred" appears when .pdf is opened from Outlook 2010 email
I am absolutely pulling out my hair over this one!!
PC/Win 7 64bit/Adobe XI/Office 2010
I have tried Uninstalling and re-installing
I have tried using an adobe software removal tool
I have tried modifying the security settings in reader
I've tried running repair on MS Office
If you open the .pdf from an email directly, it opens Reader with the error "Internal Error Occurred"
If you drag and drop the .pdf onto the desktop, and then open it, it opens.
If you open Adobe Reader FIRST, then open the .pdf from the email, it opens fine.
ONLY when you open a .pdf from an email with Adobe Reader closed (so Outlook is asking AR to open first, and then present the .pdf) is it behaving this way.
Hypothesis: Outlook 2010 does not like to open Adobe Reader.
SO....tell me all of you brilliant geniuses? How do I solve this puzzle and become an end user's hero? -

After Effects error: The file you are attempting to open was created with After Effects version 10.5 (Macintosh 64) and cannot be opened with this version. See www.adobe.com/aftereffects on upgrading your software
Why does Premiere Pro open and NOT AE??

Windows Cannot Open File...?
I have downloaded the AIR and other software for the Kuler
Website, and I have Indesign CS3 (not Illustrator though), and
every time I try to open up a downloaded Kuler swatch (whether
right away or in "load swatches") it says Windows will not
recognize the file because it does not know where it came from. I
tried to going online to remedy the problem, but that is no help
either.
Suggestions? Do I need to purchase some other kind of
software to use Kuler fully?Hi, if the downloaded kuler file is a .ASE file InDesign
should recognize it. Can you give some steps to repro (e.g., first
I find a theme I like in the kuler desktop, then I go to kuler and
download it... etc.) and your OS/browser info? That really helps

Re: Installing CS5, got an error window that says "windows cannot open this file"
ahhh okay. maybe a 4th try at downloading will do the trick.
Thanks!
Edit. When I go to download it. It says it 4.5 GB
Edit 2. Im using CS5 not 5.5I'm installing the CS5.5 Design Standard.
The files are: MAC WINDOWS

File 1 of 1 (2.9 GB)
File 1 of 2 (2.5 GB)
File 2 of 2 (1.2 MB) -
how do i fix this?
The first thing that needs clarification is: are you opening the PSD in Illy or are you placing it? Opening is not recommended. Placing is okay (if it's a layered PSD, someone else will need to address that).
The second you already know: CS3 (at least) does not do well in any 64-bit OS, Vista or otherwise.
The third is: what is the size of the file you're trying to open/place. I've been unable to place any file 200MB or more (forcing me to do in PS what I'd rather do in Illy) although that may have had something to do with physical dimensions of the file I was trying to place. -
Cannot open multiple PDFs in Acrobat Reader X
Ever since upgrading to Acrobat X, I cannot open multiple PDFs. With all previous versions over recent years, up to version 9, I could select multiple PDF files in Windows Explorer, hit Enter, and it loaded them all. Then I could Ctrl+F6 to switch between the documents. Quick and Easy.
Now, if I try this with just 2 PDF files, it loads one and then locks up, almost stalling the PC, with each session of Acrobat taking about 40-45% of processor power. I have to crash out of it.
Help!
[P.S. As an aside, I don't like this floating toolbar that only appears if you happen to move the mouse over the bottom part of the screen. I suppose it's a "neat idea" from one of the programmers trying to be clever. Well guys, it is not user friendly. As a former Software QA and Product Manager, one of my design adages was "DON'T MAKE ME GUESS". Please think again.]In my case: v10.1.1 would not open more than one pdf at a time on a user workstation (although mine did) so I tried disabling protected mode and made sure the large image display setting was correct.
To no avail. Reinstalled version base version 10, checked the same settings...no joy
Also tried repairing the install and re-updated from the base v10...still no love
Solution for me: Opened reader X, under Help-->Online Support, there is an option to generate a system report which availed the following:
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
Version: 7.15.10.9685
Check: Not Supported
And of coarse the most recent driver was already present. Had to go back to v9.4
All good now. Hope this saves someone a few hours! -
Cannot open files on the network server.
Folks:
I have a user running Acrobat X Pro. The program works fine in all respects except one: When he tries to open a PDF that is on the server, he gets an error message:
"There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found."
He has NO problem opening the same file from within Acrobat. He cannot open it from an Explorer window or directory listing.
In a related problem, if he tries to open a file or folder using the mapped drive letter, he gets an error message:
"Windows can't find 'G:\'. Check the spelling and try again."
So this all points to a problem related to Acrobat not recognizing the computer's drive mapping --- but this problem does not exist on any other workstation on the network (all Win8 virtual machines using Acrobat Pro X). But I cannot figure out what the problem is.
Any help? Please?!?
Thanks!
MicahI am having precisely the same issue.
I am running Adobe Acrobat XI Standard on Windows 8 Professional. All updates have been applied to both.
(I have 4 other computers with identical configurations where this problem does not occur.)
In the problem machine (and a 2nd computer with the same issue) I can easily open the file using a UNC path, e.g. \\server\h\filename.pdf in Adobe Acrobat.
Using the drive mapping, net use h: \\server\h, I cannot access the file H:\filename.pdf.
I can't open H: from within Adobe Acrobat either, not just the PDF.
I can open any other file on that drive with any other program.
I can open \\server\h\filename.pdf and the H: drive from Foxit Reader installed on the same computer.
The specific problem is that Adobe Acrobat XI can't open or see a mapped drive by drive letter.
Any ideas?
