Acrobat crashes during VB Script when workstation is locked

Very strange problem, maybe only related to my particular configuration but was hoping someone had some ideas. I've been working this issue for months and haven't been able to figure it out. I have an outlook macro that processes emails, downloads PDFs and prints, etc. On some computers acrobat will crash if the workstation is locked, but only when processing back to back PDFs.
I've narrowed the code down to what I'm including here. I can now duplicate the problem using this simple VB Script outside of Outlook.
I can launch this script, do a ctrl-alt-del and when the second PDF attempts to pull up, acrobat will throw up a fatal exception. This does not happen if the screen is unlocked. Eventually the problem seems to go away, but I can duplicate it again if I delete the profile on the workstation, log back in and launch the script.
I can usually mitigate the problem if I use timeouts, like 5 or 8 second delays between documents, but not always. I'd rather sovle the problem than try and guess timeouts that won't work the same on all workstations.
I have tried MANY combinations of Adobe SDK coding to fix this, nothing but the timeouts work so far.
I have to use IE to download the document, and I need it to run in a loop because the code will process many emails in an automated environment, often times one after the other.
Adobe is configured to open PDFs outside of IE, I uncheck the Edit/Preferences/Internet - open in IE window, so that I can then use the advod and pddoc methods to process the document.
Any help at all on this is appreciated! This is a very simple example below, but this exact code will cause acrobat to crash. I use the 4000 sleep where I normally have a loop to check for opendocs.
Configuration: Windows XP SP3, Adobe Acrobat Pro 9
=====================
Set WshShell - Wscript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
do until count > 1
count = count + 1
Set AcroApp = CreateObject("AcroExch.App")
set ie = createobject("InternetExplorer.Application")
hlink = "c:\temp\test.pdf"
ie.navigate hlink
wscript.sleep 4000
acroapp.closealldocs
acroapp.hide
loop

Ok so acrobat isn't designed to run like this in a loop. If I keep the documents open, I need to be able to test the suspected current document that just downloaded to determine if it matches with the parameters I've already obtained (document number, case information, etc). The title of the document is random, so that won't work. The document may not be OCR scanned so I can't rely on findtext, is there some other way to determine that the document that I am processing is the one that just downloaded? This is assuming I have multiple documents open already because the scritp is running in a loop, against say 15 to 20 documents before it stops and closes the documents and releases the script objects.

  • ITunes Match crashes during 3rd step when uploading songs to the iCloud

    Hello There,
    I have just one issue with iTunes Match which causes me to be slightly skeptical, although it is such an amazing way to listen to music ect.
    I have about 15000 songs and most of them were added on the iCloud, however only around 200 still needed to be added manually on the iCloud. The issue appears right after the second step where the songs starts uploading. All of a sudden iTunes just crashes and asks me to close the program.
    Just to add I am using a dell desktop PC with windows 7, and everything is up to date including latest updates of the iTunes.
    What can I do to sort this issue out, so the rest of my music can be added to the iCloud without having iTunes to crash during uploads?

    hi,
    See this link.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4914
    I have read elsewhere that some people have used match with XP successfully but they were having more and more problems with each upgrade of iTunes.
    Have you tried removing the tracks that are still waiting to be matched or uploaded. There may a track that is causing the problem. Once you have removed outstanding track update imatch. If this works, gradually add the tracks back a few at a time.

  • Word 2007 crashes during autosave and when saving as .DOC

    Hi,
    I have a problem with Microsoft Word 2007. It crashes every time during autosave. It also crashes when I try to save a file as .DOC (even an empty new file). When I save it as any other file type it's fine.
    I have already tried repairing the office installation, reinstalling the whole suite (and then installing SP3 and all latest patches again), auto fix it from
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822005/en-us and
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541/en-us, changing the autosave file location, using different windows account. None of these helped. I wouldn't like to work with autosave switched off.
    I am using Windows 7 Professional SP1 and Office 2007 Professional 12.0.6683.5002 with SP3 on HP EliteBook 8470w.

  • Crash during sync, now all my apps are gone.

    My laptop and iphone crashed during a sync. Laptop would lock up as soon as the phone was plugged in, and the phone started random reboots and freezes.
    I reinstalled WinXP and itunes on the laptop, but still could not sync. The phone would come up "sync in progress", but then nothing happened. Left it sit overnight, and sync still would never complete.
    Restored the phone to factory settings, and now everything seems fine. Only problem is that all of my downloaded apps are gone. I can see the history where I purchased them in the itunes store but they are not in itunes. If I try to reload them it wants me to pay for them again. Is there any way to recover previously purchased apps?

    You can re-download purchased apps for free. Click on buy, click yes to I want to purchase, another popup will appear, you have already purchased, do you want to re-download, click yes.

  • Acrobat crashes when using the Instance Manager

    I am using Designer 7.0/Acrobat 7.0.1 on Win XP SP 2 (and tested on two other machines with the same config), and also Mac OS X 10.3.9 with Acrobat 7.0.1.
    The crash occurs when my script tries to hide a subform, but only when the script is called from a Drop-Down List. I have mocked up a brand new PDF and the problem is still there:
    http://members.optusnet.com.au/machelp/crash.pdf
    If you click the Show/Hide Subform buttons it works fine. If you choose an item from the List Box it shows the subform correctly, and then choose one of the 'Other Mag' items and it hides the subform correctly. Do the same process with the Drop-Down List and it is guaranteed to crash when you choose an 'Other Mag' item (which should hide the subform). The Mac has no problem with crashing at all!
    The crash message (that appears after the 'Send feedback to Microsoft' message is 'The instruction at "0x2d864aa2" referenced memory at "0x00000008". The memory could not be "read". Click on "OK" to terminate the program.' This exact error happens on all PC's that I tested on, in Acrobat Pro or Reader.
    Can someone please help me identify if this is a bug in Acrobat or is there something I'm not doing right?
    Many thanks in advance, Mike.
    PS. Also Designer crashes
    i a lot
    when laying out forms. Does this happen to anyone else?

    I would send this to Adobe Support.

  • IE8 crashes during print to Adobe PDF (Acrobat 9 Pro)

    IE8 and MS Paint both crash during print to Adobe PDF.  Neither an update to latest version of Acrobat 9 Pro (9.5.3) nor running repair installation will fix this issue.  Operating system is Windows 7 SP1.
    Installed third party PDF Printer so that these two apps can print to pdf.
    Any ideas?

    The reinstall is typically the last ditch effort to do. The first step is Help>Repair and Help>Updates. As far as Office 2013, the PDF Maker of AA X is not compatible and you can only print. In your list of errors it showed a problem with AcroTray.exe. As a first step, go to the print and select print-to-file. The file will be a PS file (maybe with a PRN extension). Once the printer if finished, open the file in Distiller to complete the process. If that is successful, then the problem is with AcroTray. Check your running tasks to be sure AcroTray is indeed running. If not, that is likely the problem. If it is, then restart it (it is located in the Acrobat folder). AcroTray provides the interface between the PS creation and Distiller to automate the process of creating the PDF.

  • Acrobat crashes when closing a document.

    I have developed a simple Acrobat Addin, which adds a menu item and a toolbar button. The active document will be closed when this menu item or toolbar button is clicked.The document is closed using the function "AVDocClose".
    Acrobat crashes when AVDocClose is invoked from toolbar button and works fine when invoked from menu item. This happens only when "Show each document in its own window" is checked and in the version 8.0 Professional. Works fine in 7.0. The crash has occured in Acrobat.dll.
    Is this crash a known Acrobat issue in 8.0?
    OS : Windows XP
    Thanks,
    Partha

    The only  plug-ins installed are the default ones that came installed with Acrobat.  All of these are developed by Adobe, so i'm assuming your are not referring to these as "3rd party".  All custom plug-ins have been uninstalled with the exception of the Stamper sample to test this theory.  Quite literally this can be reproduced by adding  the following code to the "ToolActivate" method in StamperUI.cpp.  This is the method that is wired into both the MenuItem and Button click events by default in this sample.  When this code is executed by a MenuItem event, no issue at all.  When this code is executed by a button click event, an exception is thrown from Acrobat.exe.  Note that the exception is not thrown from the ToolActivate method, it is thrown at some point after this method completes.
    AVDoc avDoc = AVAppGetActiveDoc();
    if (avDoc != NULL)
    AVDocClose(avDoc, true);
    As you can see, no objects are being acquired in this code.  If AVDocClose is not executed, no issues at all.  Although that goes against what i am attempting to do (as a result of a Button click, i need to be able to close the AVDoc).
    Any thoughts as to root cause of this issue?
    Karl, i really appriciate your assistance!  Thanks.

  • Acrobat crashes when extracting pages

    Version Adobe Acrobat X 10.1.12
    When extracting and emailing pages from a pdf multiple times, Acrobat crashes.  Here is the process:
    1. Open pdf
    2. Tools -> Pages -> Extract
    3. Select any number of pages -> delete after extracting -> Yes at prompt
    4. In the extracted page(s) pdf, Share -> Send Files -> Attach to Email -> Attach
    5. Default email app opens -> Send email
    6. Close extracted page(s) pdf without saving.
    7. Go back to original pdf
    8. Try to repeat steps 1-6.
    The Acrobat crashes every time at step 4 on the 2nd extraction and email.  As soon as the share button is pressed (or using File -> Attach to Email), Acrobat crashes with the below error code.
    I have tried multiple different pdfs from different sources (i.e. downloaded from the web, scanned from a printer, generated from a word doc, etc.) as well updating Acrobat, uninstalling and re-installing (using the cleaner tool in between) and repairing install.  The issue happens on multiple machines, all running Win 7 Pro, and there are no add ins installed.

    In Acrobat, I wrote a script to turn fields gray if a checkbox was checked. How can I get it to reset to white (or clear) when the reset form button is clicked?

    Thank you so much for your reply . . . but . . . I should have shared my original script with you -- it was a little more complicated than I led you to believer. I was triggering a group of text fields to become disabled as well as gray. Below is the original script so that when the checkbox is checked, it causes several "Co" fields to be disabled and gray.
    // Mouse Up script for check box
    // If checked, certain fields should be disabled
    var f_prefix = "Co";
    // Get a reference to all of the "Co" fields
    var f = getField(f_prefix);
    // Reset the Co fields
    resetForm([f_prefix]);
    if (event.target.value === "Off") {
        // Enable the Co fields
        f.readonly = false;
        f.fillColor = color.transparent;
    } else {
        // Disable the Co fields
        f.readonly = true;
        f.fillColor = color.gray;
    To recap -- my goal is to get those gray fields to revert to transparent if the form is reset. I'm willing to create my own custom "Reset Form" button but I'm not sure I understand how that would look. Wouldn't it be quite lengthy? I think I'm having a brain freeze -- can't figure it out!

    Hey,
    You might try reducing the size of the PDF file and then convert to .png.
    Also, please check for updates for Acrobat 8 and try repairing.
    Let me know if this helps.
