Acrobat form field that allows Reader user to browse and insert a picture into a predefined area

Is there a way to do insert a form field into an AcroForm that allow Reader users to browse and insert a picture into that form field?
I know that LiveCycle can do this, but I need to do this using an AcroForm. Or maybe there's a third-party plug-in that can be used in an AcroForm to do this?

The new version of Reader, which was announced today (see AcrobatUsers.com), will now allow you to use the field.buttonImportIcon method: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.737.html

Here's the minimum code that can be used in the Mouse Up event of a button that's configured with a layout that's something other than "Label only":

Since this isn't backwards compatible with Reader, you'll probably want to add additional code to test what version is being used and alert the user if it's pre-11. You should also check the return value to see if anything went wrong. The hard part is getting everyone to upgrade, but this and a number of other features should make it worth it.

Good day,
I am creating editable marketing flyers for a client. I'm opening my PDF (originally created in Illustrator) in Acrobat and adding editable form feilds for the end user to add their contact information to each piece. The enduser also wants to add a photo with their contact info. Is there a way to create this as part of the form? Ultimately, I'm wanting them to be able to insert a picture into a specified area and not have to resize the photo. Is this possible in Acrobat professional?
Any information would be greatly appreciated! I'm working in CS3 and Acrobat 8, on a mac.

This post has been invaluable for me! Thanks for everyone input. I have used the event.target.buttonImportIcon(); javascript to create PDF's the user can import, and it works great. However I now have on last challenge and I am hoping someone on this forum can help out with. Is there anyway (with a little javascript on the button) to have the image the user uploads flip upside down? I have a document that needs to be folded in half, and it would be perfect if I could have the user upload the image to both buttons, but have one button flip the image upside down. I know I could have the user do that image flipping and re-saving on their own, but I am trying to simplify things. Any ideas here would be helpful.

Allow reader users to save pdf form with data

I want to create a form that an adobe reader user can open and save a copy as a pdf with the data in the form. I know that requires reader extensions - what i can't seem to figure out is if I already have this included and how to do it. I have LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2 - which is the download I end up at when searching LC with reader extensions.
Does anyone have instructions on how to do this or know whether that functionality is available in the version I'm running?

You can add the Reader Extesnion right to save the form with data locally in two different ways.
1. In Acrobat Pro open the form and under the Advanced/Extend Features in Adobe Reader will walk you through a wizard. Once the wixard is finished, save the file and use that one. This technique is limited to 500 users by licence.
2. LiveCycle Reader Extensions Server has a User Interface that allwos you to pick the rights you want. There are no luser imitations to this option.
If you do not have either, option 1 is a lot simpler. You can download a trial copy of Acrobat Pro and try it.

Form field tool tips & Read Out Loud

I know that having tool tips for form fields in a PDF is a requirement for accessibility. When I use View > Read This Page in Acrobat, the reader does not read the tool tips for the form fields, even though I've turned on Read form fields in Preferences > Reading. I have a both check boxes and text fields on the form.
What do I need to do to have the Read This Page feature read the form field tool tips?
And, if the Read This Page features does actually read the form field tool tips, wouldn't it be rather redundant that it reads the tool tip and then it also reads the text label printed on the form?
Are certain types of form fields considered 'not accessible?'

Sorry, to the best of my knowledge the Acrobat Read Out Loud feature cannot be coaxed into reading form field tips. But you have other options like the PAC 1.3 preview feature and the Callas pdfGoHTML plug in - that let you see the form fields and tips in the context that an assistive technology user would hear them. Or you could use the excellent free screen reader NVDA. Or pay for JAWS.

Yes, form field tips can be repetitive. Accessibility rules can be dogmatic. If a form field is labeled and tagged properly and it would be annoyingly repetitive to include a tip, and if you are not constrained by a must-pass-the-dogmatic-accessibility-checker rule, feel free to use your good judgment regarding when it makes sense to leave out the tip.

My understanding is that XFA-based PDF forms are problematic from an accessibility standpoint. Standard PDF forms should always be made accessible.

Allow Reader users "Document Assembley" permission

I want to be allow Reader users "Document Assembley" permission in a PDF saved as Reader Extended - PDF / Enable additional features. When I do that the properties of the file change the Document Assembley option from allowed to Not Allowed automatically. Can anyone advise how I can do what I want to do with this sort of distributed file?

"Document assembly" (DA) refers to the ability to add/remove/rotate pages in a PDF file, or change the bookmarks tree. None of these is ever possible in Reader, so the DA flag is always disabled.
The process of Reader-extending a file involves a signing process which in turn means that some editing features which are normally possible in Acrobat have to be disabled, and DA is one of them.

Creating PDF interactive image fields for Adobe Reader users

I Need to create image fields to PDF flyers that Adobe Reader users can click on to import JPG/EPS image files and print out. I've seen this done on a PC using Adobe LiveCycle Designer 7. My system is Mac OS 10.3.9 using the Adobe Creative Suite 2 Premium. Since LiveCycle is a PC program only, I find I'm limited to creating live text fields only. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It's our internal applicant tracking systems (resume database). It works fine in IE and all previous verisons of FF but in FF 7 a bubble icon pops up stating that "Please fill out this field".
The field is not required but states "Require all of these words" if you to run a search based on those parameters.

I can see why that would be frustrating! Have you tried selecting Stayed Signed In underneath the Adobe ID and Password boxes when you try to log in?
What did you use to create the PDF form? If you used FormsCentral, form data is saved to your online FormsCentral account. If you have Acrobat, you can export form data as described here: Adobe Acrobat X Pro * Manage form data files

It is still there at the left most part part of the address bar, but you have to press and hold the trackpad to use it.

I'm working on JSP that allows the user in this case to add a new restaurant to the database. I have 2 database tables, one being RestaurantTable and containing the columns:
Id (Restaurant Id) type: int (primary key)
Name (Restaurant Name) type: varchar
Address (Restaurant Address) type: varchar
PhoneNumber (Restaurant Phone Number) type: varchar
Category (Type of Restaurant) type: varchar
and the other being Rank and containing the columns:
Value (Restaurant rank number) type: float
Id (Restaurant Id same as in the RestaurantTable) type: varchar
Since all of my restaurants which are already in the database have ideas, if a user were to add a restaurant I want my JSP to give it the next Id that follows. For that I have created a SQL sequence which is rest_id_seq.
There error I'm getting is : Invalid column type
I understand that the value for Id must be an integer because that is what I defined it as when I created my table, but I don't understand anyother way to do it then to put the sequence in as it's value.
I'm really confused as to what to do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If I may impose on your generosity one more time, if I understand you correctly if I create a document on Word or WordPerfect, print it and scan it to create a pdf, the search function will not work. But, if I create the pdf document in Word the search function will work. Unfortunately, I am not sure how I create a pdf document in Word other than by printing it and scanning it. Could you please explain.
