Acrobat Pro 8.0- barcode-javascript-Licensing - reader

   HI,
I am trying to understand licensing with the use of a 2D barcode, javascript, and the free reader. Basically, I would like to take pre-generated PDFs (no existing forms fields) and in Acrobat pro 8.0 add a barcode to it, launch it from a webpage passing in specific account data to generate the barcode value and then have users print and manually fill out the form. They would then scan in the form, the barcode would be read to associate the form to a patient chart and an 'image' of the form would be uploaded and filed into are system.
The user would NOT be filling in electronic form data; they would be manually writing in the information. The only thing that would be dynamic on it would be the barcode which would get populated from internal javaScript that parsed information from the webLink call.
From what I can find on the web is that I have to pay for some kind of form licensing (using liveCycle extension?) if I want to distribute these forms to be read by the free reader. If I am going to distribute these forms to more then 500 individual users (from Acrobat 8.0 Licens agreement 14.13.3)
This all seems to be true based on the fact that I am using a dynamic barcode (free reader currently grey’s out the barcode unless I “enable user rights in adobe reader’ which then sounds like I am bound to the licensing agreement above)
Installing and using liveCycle extensions server/app seems like overkill for what I am trying to do. Am I missing something or am I on the right path? I have been calling our sales rep for adobe and trying to talk to others there as well and no one seems to know the answer.
Thank you,
- Josh

re: George Johnson
Thank you for the response. This process that we are looking to do is necessary. We have 400+ OLD PDF forms that currently are printed by our print shop and then manually filled out and scanned into our system. The current process requires a clinician to log into our scanning system, identify a patient chart, and then identify the type of report they are scanning in. This process is time consuming with possibility of errors (wrong chart selected, wrong form, etc.). Plus, we have to stock up to 400 forms at each location.
We don’t have the funds to convert 400+ complex forms into electronic submissions where the form fields are discrete and file accordingly. So, what we have come up with to save costs of a new system and reduce potential errors is to add a barcode to each existing form.
Basically, each form will get a barcode and a javascript function in the onload event to process and parse passed in link parameters.
So when a clinician clicks on a form link in our EMR system the form will load passing in the patient acct. number and form name into the link parameters (all on our local intranet) so it will get embedded into the barcode on the form. They will then print the form fill out the data (or have the patient fill it out) and then drop it in the scanner. Our scanning system will automatically see the barcode and file the form under the correct patient and form folder based on the barcode info. (A scanned image of the form will save to the patient profile).
Ultimately we would like to convert all of these forms to electronic signature/submission but we do not have the funds or the time to do this.

  • Why barcode works in Adobe Acrobat Pro but become "grey" in Adboe Reader ?

I have created a form with barcode using Adobe Acrobat Pro with ONE field only and it works prefect.
However, the barcode area become grey if I using Adobe "Reader" to fill-in data!  I have tried to increase the size of the barcode area but still don't work.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,

    Hi everyone,
Any solution to this issue? Is there any cheap Adobe or third party component that enable us to design pdf forms with either livecycle designer or acrobat and provide dynamic barcode functionality for the end users having adobe reader?

  • Acrobat Pro Trial wiped out my licensed version of Acrobat Standard

I recently wanted to convert a PDF back to Microsoft Word because I could not find my original Word file. I thought Acrobat Standard would do it, but apparently not. Online research told me that I could download an Acrobat Pro Trial license, which can convert PDFs back to Word. It worked great but when my trial license expired, I discovered it's REALLY expensive to buy the Pro License - even to upgrade from Standard.
NOW I just want to go back to Acrobat Standard, but the Pro Trial uninstalled my licensed version of Standard and it's gone! My licensed version came preinstalled on my new laptop from Sony as an Adobe bundle. I have no physical disks or my license number.
What a mess! How can I go back to what I had prior to my Trial?

You will need to contact Sony, if they didn't include disk and serial number with the computer, and if you didn't keep a suitable backup. What would Sony expect you to do if the hard drive failed and had to be replaced, for example?

  • Purchased acrobat pro but keeps defaulting to adobe reader

Purchased Acrobat Pro but keeps defaulting to Adobe Reader

First things first, let's get Acrobat running. When you get the "trial expired" notice, it's because Acrobat doesn't know you have a subscription. To tell it, you have to sign in to tell it you have a license.

  • Reinstallation Acrobat Pro x, no legit software license

I bought a CS6 Design and Web Premium (windows 8.1), and somehow the Acrobat Pro X stops working out of nothing. The first time a deinstalled Acrobat Pro and reinstalled it, then again after a few weeks Acrobat Pro X stops working again. So After a few ##$%$@! words I deinstalled Acrobat pro again (without deactivating it) and tried to install the product again. The program didn't complete its installation progress because Adobe thinks it's not a legit software license.
    Please tell me how :
    - I can install Acrobat Pro X again with my software key
    - I can prevent Acrobat Pro X for stop working after a few weeks.

Hi Rave, thanks for your reply.
How do I go about posting the crash dump here?
And to answer your questions; I just installed Reader 11 and its working fine. As for Acrobat 11, I must've used a trial last year before we got CS6 because it is asking me to license it, so I cant test that unfortunately.

  • Acrobat Pro 9.5 conflict with Adober Reader 9?

I am using Acrobat Pro 9.5 on my Mac running OS X 10.6.8. I am having problems with an online learning site I need for a client. It wants me to install Adobe Reader 9. Will it create a conflict to have both programs on my computer?

    I already have 9.5.4.
I have over 500Gigs Free space on my HD
I print to B&W, and Color and just back to the Adobe Driver (to create another PDF as a test-and still crashes if I attempt more than about 200 PDFs). I have tried it with 6 Different Printers, even at Economy printing. I always keep all my drivers (like software updates) to the latest and greatest. in fact, I checked to make sure they were all when I got the 1st crash.
If I select more than about 200, the entire program crashes, it doesn't even attempt to start printing.

  • Problem with Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended version 9.3.4 reading Inventor 2009

I would like to be able to generate 3D PDF files from Autodesk Inventor CAD models (e.g. .iam files) using Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended.  I am constrained to use Inventor 2009.  When I originally installed Acrobat Pro Extended, I was able to make this work after installing the IMPORT3D update at:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4073
Recently (9/5/2010), I updated Acrobat Pro Extended to version 9.3.4.  I believe that following that update, I lost the ability to read in Inventor 2009 files.  Acrobat Pro Extended now gives the error messages:
"Exception has been raised" followed by:
"Acrobat could not open 'file' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).  To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then print the document to Adobe PDF."
This is exactly what happened when I first installed Acrobat Pro extended and before I installed the IMPORT3D update mentioned above.  I tried re-installing that update but now the installer gives the error message:
"No qualifying products found to apply this update."
Note that Inventor 2009 does allow one to "Save Copy As" to PDF format, but this just creates a 2D PDF snapshot of the current model view -- same for print to pdf.
I suppose one thing to try is removing Acrobat Pro Extended and then re-installing without the 9.3.4 update, but with the IMPORT3D update -- but if that is necessary, then I won't be able to take advantage of any further updates (e.g. security updates) to Acrobat, which seems like a bad situation.
Has anyone else had this problem? Or is it just me?

I may have figured out what was causing my problem with conversion of Inventor 2009 to 3D PDF.  After playing around with a number of inventor files, I discovered that the conversion worked fine when there were no references to external files.  For example a .ipt file (part file) seemed to convert fine.  I believe the problem was that on the form one obtains with Edit->Preferences->Convert to PDF->Autodesk Inventor->Edit Settings->Import->Assembly, the check box for "use root file directory" was NOT checked.  Oddly, this is the default and I'm pretty sure I tried setting the conversion options to the default.  In any case, I now seem to be able to perform the conversion of Inventor 2009 to 3D PDF so this problem is solved I guess.

  • How to re-install Acrobat Pro 9.0 without it being read as a trial version

Please respond to me at: <private info removed by admin>

    Hi marybernal,
With CS5, Acrobat 9 is installed with a separate serial number and installation media, so you'll want to make sure that you have your Acrobat 9 serial number: see Find your serial number quickly
If you had Acrobat Pro, you can download the installer from this page: Download Acrobat products | 9, 8
Before reinstalling Acrobat 9, you'll need to uninstall the Acrobat DC trial that you've just installed. Please see this document for uninstall instructions: Acrobat DC uninstalled Acrobat XI | How to get Acrobat XI back.
    Best,

  • Why my form works flawlessly in Acrobat Pro but is broken in the Reader?

    Hi,
after a couple hours of trial and error, I finally made a nice form with Acrobat Professional 8.1.2.
I have a small workshop that makes signalisation signs. With that form, my client will have a nice tool to order them.
Here is my form (sorry, it's in french):
    http://homepage.mac.com/danyb/Sites/PDF/Dab_Feuille_de_commande.pdf
In Acrobat professionnal, everything works, so the subtotal(somme partielle) is calculated from the 3 kinds of signs I make and the 2 taxes are applied.
But in the Reader (8.1.2), the subtotal is always 0.
    Any suggestions on what's wrong?
    Thanks
    Dany, Qc

I just went through your form and changed the calculations from the short cut notation fields to the "Custom calculation script" (the script generated by the short cut fields will appear) and noticed the lines did not end with a return. Adding a return to the script in the custom field cleared up the problem.
I have seen a similar problem with JavsScript code being inserted programatically into form fields or other locations within a PDF form.
You might want to contact Acrobat about this problem.

  • Acrobat Pro 9 & 10 crash when changing read order

I have a calendar I have been making in Indesign for years with no changes other than the entries.  After I export to PDF, I use the read order tools to arrange the read order for a blind client and calendars cant be read normally without giving it the order.  As of several months ago, when I go to rearrange the readorder, it will crash.  It doesnt do it to every change to the order I make, just certain ones, and those certain ones change on me each month.  Im clueless why this is and because of it, I havent been able to properly make a PDF for this blind client without the calendar reading completely out of order.  What could be causing this????

Your issue may not be related to a difference between v8 and 9.
I have not had this problem on my computers, but a coworker had this issue. For many documents that others were able to open and scroll through without issue, his computer was freezing and unfreezing.  IT determined his graphics capabilities were not able to keep up with the requirements of working with larger documents and gave his computer a RAM upgrade and a new graphics card. Particularly during scrolling, higher demands are made on the computer to graphically render and re-render page content. Documents giving him problems before became a non-issue.
A new graphics card is obviously a $$$ solution, but you might want to check to see if your RAM meets the minimum requirements and check to see if there are any program updates (Help > Check for Updates).
I have had an issue of pdfs freezing, but not specifically in the table of contents areas. If your document has pages with images that have an unusually high number of layers, it may affect the ability to work effectively in the document.

  • How to license Acrobat Pro as a single product in Creative Cloud for teams.

We're just starting with Creative Cloud for teams and I have a question about purchasing it.
We seem to have the option to either add all the products or to license for a single product.
Since a lot of our users are only using Acrobat Pro we'd like to license only that, but when we add a single product license in our team Acrobat Pro is not in the list of applications.
    Any idea why?

    Hi,
No way to remove it yourself, you must contact the customer service and normally they will remove it without any problem .

  • Mac OS X 10.7.5 Adobe license agreement issue for Acrobat Pro

Acrobat Pro keeps popping up the License agreement whenever I try to use it. Even viewing pdf documents that already exist doesn't work. I've tried all the usual fixes including the Deactivate a different program. This didn't work either. I got Acrobat Pro as part of the CS6 suite offered to academic staff via a university agreement. Can you help?

Deactivate. Use the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool then re-install.

  • Saving with Reader Enabled Acrobat Pro OSX

Hi, I have a form that I populate using a 3rd party tool.  When this form is opened in Adobe Reader I got the message "this form has changed and is no longer redaer enabled".  I solved this by purchasing Acrobat X Standard and using it to re-save the form as  "save as" -> "reader extended PDF" -> "Enable forms fill in...".   Then when I open it again in ADobe reader I am able to fill in fields, save send to someone else who does the same etc.
However, my co-worker who needs to do this uses a Mac.  So I had him buy Acrobat.  He was only able to find "Adobe X Pro" so that is what he bought.  The behavior of this program is very different.
When he opens one of these forms that has been populated by my 3rd party tool, he goes to save it as "reader enabled" the options on the "save as" menu are very different.  Only the bottom on is available (says something like "extended features". Anyway, when he chooses the only option available he gets a message that says "this form is already reader enabled".  !!!!!  This is a problem because if we open that same form with Adobe reader it says "This form is no longer reader enabled"
We have spent $800+ buying two versions of Acrobat and still do not have a solution, feeling more then a little frustrated.
How can we force Acrobat Pro X osx to resave as "reader enabled"
    Help!!!

Your "3rd party tool" probably corrupts the file in some way, or at least changes it and thereby removes the additional reader rights enabled by Acrobat.
In Acrobat X Pro (Windows or Mac, doesn't matter) you enable those rights by going to File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features.
