Acrobat Pro 8, Form Field Sizes - HELP!

Sometime within the past week, Acrobat has gone NUTS.
I used to be able to create text fields of just about any size. I had not updated recently or done anything to alter my installation.
Now, when I go add a form field, namely a text field, it automatically creates one much larger than I want. If I try to re-size it, I can only make it bigger. If I attempt to decrease the size of it, it disappears! I'm not talking font, I'm talking FIELD.
Since I noticed this, I downloaded the latest update, rebooted about 12 times and then had Adobe repair the installation, thinking it was some other issue. No dice.
I cannot stand this! I like using form fields as opposed to text boxes and want it to just work the way it used to work. I use this feature DAILY and right now I'm about at my wits-end.
ANY ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thank you!

I figured out my issue. For those who wanted to say it, please feel free. I AM AN IDIOT! I had somehow clicked SNAP TO GRID under the view menu. It is just odd because in all of the years I've used Acrobat, I've NEVER had that happen!

  • How to make Acrobat Pro 7 form fields same size

    I can manually enter form fields in my version of Acrobat Pro 7 but I have to hand draw them.  is there a good way to make them all the same height?  I know that if I copy the form field that I draw, it will link itself to whatever form field I copied it from.
    TIA

    The best way is to copy & paste the fields, and then rename them so that
    they are no longer "linked".
    If you have many such fields to rename, you might want to consider this
    tool, developed by me:

  • I can't read the text in my Acrobat pro fill forms fields

    I used to be able to render text with my acrobat pro, now the function is missing.  I can't read what people put in the fields I create in my forms if they don't fill it out with acrobat when they email them back.  This didn't used to be the case. One month ago I could render the text.  I had help from a tech at Adobe about a year ago on this and he changed my acrobat somehow so now I can't update it because it's been "modified".  How can I make my text visible?   Thanks!

  • Acrobat Pro Calculating form fields lose functionality after enabling document for Reader

    I have a problem that continues to come up increasingly. I thought I had found a work-around on some forums, but it is still causing trouble. Im hoping you can answer the question.
    I am creating a form that requires simple calculations (sum and add). I can get these calculations to work just fine. However, as soon as I enable the document for Adobe Reader, the form seems to get amnesia. It loses the ability to calculate. When I go into the fields again to look at them, they still show that they are supposed to calculate, but arent working. I have to clear the calculations and completely reset them all in order to get them to function again, but as soon as I save this enabled doc, it loses its functionality all over again.
    Frustrating.
    I did find a work-around on a forum, but have only gotten it to work once. It had something to do with closing and saving the document, then reopening it before entering the calculations.
    Is there a clear-cut solution to this problem? The forums were rife with people experiencing the same frustrations.
    Thanks ahead of time for your assistance.

    Nathan,
    It's fairly straighforward to set up a custom validation script for this, but it might not be immediately obvious how to do it. I'll use your form as an example. In it, you have a number of rows with a Quantity field where the user enters how many items are needed, a Price field that has as its default value the price for the item, and a Total field which is a calculated field and should be the product of the Quantity and Price fields. The only variable in the calculation is the value of the Quantity field, so this will be easy.
    The Validate event of a field gets triggered when the field value is committed. This happens when the user enters a value and presses Enter, Tab, clicks outside of the field, etc. What the script should do is take the value the user entered, multiply it by the value that's in the Price field, and set the value of the Total field. The script could look something like:
    (function () {
        // Get the value of this field, as a number
        var qty = +event.value;
        // Get the value of the Price field, as a number
        var price = +getField("PRICE.0").value;
        // Calculate the total
        var total = qty * price;
        // Set the value of the Total field if not zero,
        // otherwise, blank it out
        getField("TTL.0").value = total ? total : "";
    What you really should do, however, is set up a document-level JavaScript (Advanced > Document Processing > Document JavaScripts...) that contains a function you can call from the QTY field of each row. The function will determine which row should be affected based on the field name that triggers it. Something like:
    function calcTotal() {
        // Get the row number from the field name
        // of the field that called this function
        var row = event.target.name.split(".").pop();
        // Get the value of the field that called this function, as a number
        var qty = +event.value;
        // Get the value of the Price field, as a number
        var price = +getField("PRICE." + row).value;
        // Calculate the total
        var total = qty * price;
        // Set the value of the Total field if not zero,
        // otherwise, blank it out
        getField("TTL." + row).value = total ? total : "";
    Than all you have to place as the custom Validate script of each of your QTY fields is the following:
    calcTotal();
    Also, make sure that you remove any calculations that you've set up on the Calculate tab of each TOTAL field. Now that the total fields do not rely on automatic calculations, it does not matter that the document is missing its field calculation order array, though this bug REALLY needs to be fixed. You should consider reporting it to Adobe. I will report it too.
    Note that this code assumes the QTY and PRICE fields are numeric fields, meaning they will either be blank or contain a valid number. You've ensured this by setting up each with a Format category of Number.

  • Need help with Java Script to perform a calculation in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 form

    I have a form (test) that I am creating in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.
    I need help creating custom Java Script so I can get the desired answer.
    1) There are several questions in each group that require a numerical answer between 0-4
    2) There is a total field set up to sum the answers from all above questions
    3) The final "score" takes the answer from Step 2 above and divides by the total possible answer
    Any help on what Java Script I need to complete this would be greatly appreciated!
    I've attached a "spreadsheet" that shows it in more detail as well as what formulas I used in Excel to get the desired end result.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Can I export or convert an existing FormsCentral form into an adobe acrobat pro fillable form?

    What is the best method for exporting or converting an existing FormsCentral form into an adobe acrobat pro fillable form?

  • Individual, Creative cloud, single app, Adobe Acrobat Pro X1, Forms and Responses allowed

    Dear forum,
    Firstly many apologies if this is a stupid question or if it has been answered before, but I'm very new to using FormsCentral only in the past few days.
    I purchased an Individual Creative cloud, single app plan at £17.58 per month for only Adobe Acrobat Pro X1, I am able it seems allowed to create forms etc, however are there any responses per form limit for my subscription? when looking at the features for the Adobe Acrobat Pro X1 product it only says FormsCentral is included and does not suggest any limitations. However, I've seen other comments which suggest needing to upgrade, but I have not seen any messages asking me to. I would prefer to know the limitations now rather than doing an important project form and then suddenly see messages appear once 50, or so responses have arrived  ?
    Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.
    kind regards
    kevin

    Hi,
    You get a free subscription with FormsCentral with Acrobat Pro XI. You will only be able to create one form and collect 50 responses. To get more functionality, you'll need to upgrade to basic or plus plan. Please check out Pricing options - Free, Basic, and Plus options | Adobe FormsCentral.
    Thanks,

  • Acrobat Pro Multiple form question

    I am creating a form in Acrobat Pro to be distributed and tracked throught the response tracker. The form that I am doing would have 6 sets of the same form fields for different entries into the tracker. Does anyone know how I can do this so each entry is recorded separately in the tracking fields?

    One distributed PDF will have only one entry in Tracker. If you want to manage data from Subforms in a PDF form you need to use LiveCycle designer and bind xml or any other database to your form and then you can easily manage the data you want.

  • LiveCycle Designer 8/ Acrobat Pro 8-form data

    Not skilled in using the LiveCycle Designer included in Acrobat Pro 8, I have been struggling for a couple of weeks, trying to format a sample form and export data to a .csv file to read in Excel or notepad, once saved in .pdf and completed. I have the basics, but can't accomplish the more advanced. So far, I have used LiveCycle Deisgner to create a one page table form, with a header, 20 columns and 16 rows. The header cells are all text boxes labeling the columns below them. The rows have mostly text input cells/boxes, a few drop- down list boxes.
    I can complete, in .pdf, a couple of sample lines with made-up names, other data as a test. It will save, the using manage form data>merge data files into a spreadsheet, I can create a .csv and view it in Excel.
    Here's where the difficulty begins. I need the .csv to display every cell/box, even if blank, and in the correct row. The form data will be used by a genetics program's import module to import data and needs to be either a .txt or .csv tab, comma or other symbol (for example, @) delimited file, where blanks are represented by one extra delimiter (as a spacer) for each blank. The .csv data display is anything but that. The header runs across the first .csv row with names like :"form1[0].ID1[0]" while the only other row showing is all of the sample data from the .pdf's 2 completed sample data lines, all in one row, with some blank cells/boxes shown, and some not shown.
    Since eventually, once the form is "up and running," it can collect 50+ rows, I was hoping not to have to manually edit the .csv to get it into the acceptable format for the other program's import module.
    I am at a loss about how to set up the form in LiveCycle Designer so that the header row doesn't export to the .csv (I am unable to find the data binding controls for these text/header boxes to set them to "none."), the blank cells/boxes all register, rather than only some, and the row 1 data goes on the .csv's row 1 and the row 2 data to the .csv's row 2, etc., rather than an endlessly long single row.
    I've already searched forum's, plus the help files for LiveCycle Designer and Acrobat, with no success.
    Any ideas, solutions or places where I can check further would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Stephen

    Hi,
    With LC Designer you can develop a form which has data connections to databases and/or web services.
    The issues to consider are: what version of Acrobat will the user have; and if the user only has the Reader then how are you Reader Extending the form.
    User has the fulll version of Acrobat:
    user can open form;
    fill it in;
    print it;
    data connections to databases and web services will work;
    user can save the form.
    User has the Reader (form not Reader Enabled)
    user can open form;
    fill it in;
    print it;
    data connections to databases and web services will NOT work;
    user CANNOT save the form.
    User has the Reader (form Reader Enabled using the full version of Acrobat before deployment. See licence restrictions)
    user can open form;
    fill it in;
    print it;
    data connections to databases and web services will NOT work;
    user can save the form.
    User has the Reader (form Reader Enabled using the full LC Enterprise Suite)
    user can open form;
    fill it in;
    print it;
    data connections to databases and web services will work;
    user can save the form.
    Hope that helps,
    Niall

  • PDF form field calculation help needed

    I need to make some simple calculations on a pdf form and need some help.
    I have a form field for number of guests.
    A field for a set cost for various tickets (there are 3 levels of ticket prices) (I might not need this field).
    A subtotal of the guests attending and ticket price.
    A grand total of the subtotals.
    I can't figure out how to either put in a fixed cost in a form field or input a calculation so that the number of tickets is muliplied by a fixed number and gives me a subtotal.
    Thanks.

    Ok. I finally got the calculations to work. But..... when I save and open in Reader, they don't work. Go back to Pro, they don't work there now either. They also don't show up under the Set Field Order Calculations. To reset them, i have to erase the calculations, save, redo the calculations. Preview the form and everything works — calculations happen and i get a total.
    Adobe Reader usage rights are enabled.
    Why is this so hard?
    I found this thread http://forums.adobe.com/message/1152890#1152890 about it. Is this bug still going on since 2009?
    Ok. Apparently you have to enable reader rights after the form is done. It seems to work now. What a pain.

  • Acrobat 6 filled form fields show up empty in Acrobat X

    I've been using Acrobat 6 to create fillable forms some time back and now I'm having some issues trying to correct some fields they are showing up empty in Acrobat X. Is there a way to still view or edit my saved Acrobat 6 filled forms in Acrobat X?
    Any help would be appreciated

    Hi,

  • Indesign + Acrobat Pro ("invisible forms")

    Hi,
    My client has printed forms.
    He used to use the typewriter to fill the fields of form.
    I'm trying to use InDesign with Acrobat Pro to produce a PDF with the exact dimensions of printed form and fields in order to eliminate the typewriter use.
    So, my problem is: Since I will print on a ready form, my PDF should have only fields and not labels. It should be an invisible document. The fields should be putted on specific coordinates.
    But Acrobat Pro only can produce forms from Indesign files with labels and fields.
    Does anyone have some thoughts about how should I proceed?

    Produce a PDF from the InDesign document
    Create a empty PDF in Acrobat
    Add the PDF produced in step 1 as non-printable background
    Add the form fields

After clicking "OK" serveral time the messages goes away and form will save in Reader with data just fine. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to fix or troubleshoot this issue?
    Designer indicates no warnings or error messages.

    This was posted in March and still there is no update! Can Adobe please address this issue?

  • Acrobat Pro 9 forms tracker not keeping distributed form details

    Help needed with an issue we are experiencing with acrobat not retaining the distributed forms details (or review documents that have been distributed).  We are not able to retain the details of the distributed forms once we exit the application and close off for the day we loss the details anyone experienced this?

    Can you distribute a form and check if the file "AdhocWorkflow" is present at C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\9.0\Forms (if on Vista/Win 7) or C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\9.0\Forms (if on win XP)? • Create Accessible Forms in Acrobat Pro XI/Forms Central

    Hello FormCentral Development Team -
    I read a previous thread that FormsCentral does not create Accessible Forms (Section 508 or WCAG 2.0) and must be made accessible in Acrobat Pro XI by a series of steps in the software. However, when I tried to follow the instructions of 1)Adding Tags; 2) Setting langugage; 3) Document Structure, etc., all of these options are grayed out. I've inserted a scree shot on a test form created in FormCentral and opened in Acrobat Pro XI for remediate. What am I doing wrong?

    Use this FAQ on how to edit a FormsCentral PDF and then follow the steps to make the form accessible:  http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-3661
