Acrobat Reader X Ignores 'Copies' Setting

I recently upgraded a user from Acrobat Reader 8 or 9...  I honestly don't know which...  to Acrobat Reader X...
Now when they select a number of copies to print, they just get one copy.  Is this a known issue?  Is there a fix for this?
She's printing to a Brother HL5250-DN, which worked fine with the old version of Acrobat.

I have the same issue, and my Protected Mode is off.  In fact, it won't start in Protected Mode on my system (Win XP SP3).
I also cannot overwrite an existing file.  Reader just locks up and becomes non-responsive.  I have to kill it via Task Manager.

  • Acrobat/Reader cannot cope with internal Webserver connectivity problems, leading to comments being hidden/deleted. Any thoughts?

Adobe Acrobat/Reader do not cope with interruptions to access to the internal WebServer hosting the PDF/XML review files.
    Steps to reproduce the issue:
Connection is lost to the WebServer hosting the PDF review files.
After connection to the WebServer is regained, access to the PDF review files is blocked by Adobe Acrobat/Reader.
Sometimes this can be resolved by deleting the entire contents of the folder:
              C:\Users\<user-name>\AppData\LocalLow\Adobe\Acrobat\11.0\Synchronizer
    NOTES:
We have experienced this behaviour especially when connecting to the WebServer via VPN. I reckon the connectivity issues could be initially our problem, that Acrobat/Reader simply do not handle.
Clearing the contents of the Synchronizer folder does not always work.
Team members have also seen situations where significant numbers of review comments or status values have been not been displayed, but exist in the XML review files. In some cases comments/status values have been automatically deleted without warning from the Adobe review XML files.
PDF reviews are sent out via email as links to the PDF review file hosted on an internal WebServer.
Writers and reviewers in the team either have either:
Acrobat XI Pro 11.0.08 with Reader 11.0.08
Acrobat XI Pro 9.5.5 with Reader 11.0.08
I have personally experienced the above behaviour with Acrobat XI Pro 11.0.08 and Reader 11.0.08.
Could this experience be connected the Synchronizer (http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/known-issues-acrobat-xi-reader.html )?
For example, where a reviewer uses a different version of Acrobat/Reader?
Could anyone please provide a list of compatible versions of Acrobat/Reader?
    Expected results:
Adobe Acrobat/Reader should really handle connection issues with a warning and later check for recovered connections.
However, what appears to be happening is that Acrobat/Reader writes some sort of blocking code to the Synchronizer folder that prevents future checks of the PDF review files on the review WebServer.
As far as I understand, the connection issues are not caused by Adobe software, however the problems we are experiencing relate to how Adobe Acrobat/Reader handle this loss of connection.
    Plea for Help!
I have checked and the experience of missing comments and persistent "connectivity issues" seems to be a reported but sadly outstanding issue...
This has been an ongoing headache for some time, so solutions would be great, but any thoughts or suggestions are welcome...?
For example, has anyone using SharePoint to host PDF reviews experienced anything similar?
    Many thanks!

Adobe Acrobat 11.0.09 with Microsoft SharePoint Repository Trial Update
We've completed week one of a three week trial (see above) that will go on until Friday 24th October.
We currently have just four PDF files out for review that make use of the SharePoint repository.
    To-date:
Each review file has had multiple concurrent reviewers posting comments over several days from both over the office LAN and also via VPN when working remotely.
Dynamic stamps seem to be working as hoped and are all visible.
We have not experienced any connection-type issues and the we have not had reason to clear out the Synchronizer folder as described above.
    Counter balance:
I have experienced the situation with a remote VPN connection, where Adobe Acrobat could not connect to our internal WebServer repository. At the same time, I was able to connect to PDF review files hosted in SharePoint.
    Summary:
The experience so far does suggest that problems are caused by the an inconsistent connection to the WebServer repository (especially over VPN) combined with Adobe Acrobat/Reader's inability to cope with the resulting situation.
At the moment I must say that while it is early days, I am hopeful that the combination of SharePoint as the repository and the update to Adobe Acrobat/Reader 11.0.09 will continue to prove to be reliable.
I'll provide an update to this post on Friday 24th October...
    Here's hoping!

  • I want Acrobat Reader, NOT Preview

Since I recently formated my PB and reinstalled OS10.3.9, downloaded pdfs are opening in Preview, not Acrobat Reader. I've set Reader's "Internet" preferences to open pdfs, but Preview still insists on opening downloaded pdfs. I really, really, really want Acrobat Reader, NOT Preview. What do I do?

When you download a pdf file to your desktop, hightlight it and go 'file>get info'. click on 'open with' and change from application 'preview' to application 'Acrobat Reader',then click on the button underneath 'use this application to open all documents like this'. Any problems, post back.

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader XI no longer copies the selection to where I want to insert it in an MSWord document, but only to the top of the page!  How fix this?

I have no idea what this means; can you elaborate?

  • Setting Acrobat/Reader page scaling to "Fit to printable area" as a default.

I know there is a way in LC Designer Form Properties>PDF Print Options to set the page scaling to "none," but is there a way to set the Acrobat/Reader option to "fit to printable area" as a default, perhaps through a script of some sort? This will aid in making sure everything on my form is printed each time. Otherwise, I'm certain some users will overlook this option and will print the doc even if it clips certain areas.
The only other option I have is to make sure the form design content fits within the "typical" print margins (i.e. 1/2" all around) and then set the form prosperities to none. There's no guarantee this option will always work as page clipping could still occur due to various printer conditions (ie. allowable print areas).
    Thanks in advance.

In the past, I have overriden the Print dialog with my own dialog..
I've called the print function with param5 = true

  • After Upgrading Acrobat Reader XI to Acrobat XI Pro the previewer in Outlook and Windows Explorer doesn't work.  I have to set the default program for .pdf's to Acrobat Reader inorder for the previewer to work.

    Can anyone recommend a solution?

If I set the default program for viewing PDF as Acrobat XI Pro the a PDF file will open with Acrobat XI Pro, but in Outlook I will get a white screen and the information bubble "This file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for it" and in Windows Explorer I get a white screen in the preview pane.

  • Where is Acrobat Reader 7.0 (Linux) default printer setting saved?

    I have a GNU/Linux based system with Firefox/Acrobat Reader v7.0 plugin installed.
I need to set a specific printer for the Reader plugin to use prior to starting the browser.
In AcrobatReader version 5.x, I modified the file 'AcroRead' which contained the line "*lprCommand:/usr/bin/lpr" and added a '-P Queuename'.
Is there an equivelent to this in the Reader7.0 environment?
    TIA,
    Tom

    Unfortunately, that doesn't cover requirements.
This is an environment where I need to configure the printer for the user every time prior to starting the browser. The users are on a thin client; when the client reboots (nightly) any saved configuration is wiped out.
I need to set the 'user defaults' for each user, on each workstation, every time the software (Firefox, Acrobat Reader, etc) is launched.
The defaults are not stored on the client system -- they are saved on a network accessible server. Using a shell script, a base configuration downloaded from the network server, and based on various criteria, (location, username, client ID, ... ), various defaults get set every time the workstation boots.

  • Acrobat Reader - Use Fixed Resolution for Snapshot tool images setting

    Hello,
We're currently running Acrobat Reader 9.x on our production Windows Vista SP2 Enterprise image and we're running Acrobat Reader X on our development Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit image.  I'm curious if there's a registry setting that sets the "Use fixed Resolution for Snapshop tool images" from 72dpi to 300 dpi.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Rob

The per user settings are held in the following registry location:
    HKCU\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.0\Selection
There is a hexadecimal value named iSnapshotResolution which contains the resolution for the Snapshot Tool. Also a parameter called bUseFixedSnapshotResolution which needs to be set to 1 to switch the feature on or 0 to disable the feature.
This is a per user setting but I believe Reader checks the per machine location
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader 10.0\Selection
Presumably you can put the same values into the HKLM section (it doesn't exist by default) so you will need to create the Selection key.
    Hope this makes sense.

  • Cannot set File Association in Vista to Acrobat Reader 9.0

After installing Acrobat Reader 9.0 on Vista Ultimate SP1, I am no longer able to associate the pdf extension with Reader. When attempting to change the pdf file association, Reader is not offered as an option. When clicking the Browse button and pointing to the Reader 9.0 file, it still is not offered as an option. Reader works fine when loading files from within the application.
Do I need to edit the Registry? Which key and what value?

    Have a look at
    http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/236/1/Unable-to-open-PDF-attachments-from-Windows-Ma il.html
It looks like you have to remove any existing associations before
trying to apply the correct ones.

  • Setting Acrobat Reader as default

when I open a PDF file it opens in Preview. How do I change it so that by default the Acrobat Reader opens the PDf files. I went to the Acrobat Reader website but their instructions didn't work for me. Thank you for responding.

You need to have at least Adobe Reader 6 to do this. (It was Acrobat Reader; it's been Adobe reader for several versions now.) If you have an older version, go to adobe's site and download a more recent one. The current version is 7.05.
EDIT Oh, wait. I answered this thinking you meant you wanted to see web pages in your browser without downloading them. If you mean your downloaded pages open in Preview and you want to change it, click once on the icon of a closed PDF, press command + i for the get info window, change the application to Reader, then Change All.

  • Collation problem in Acrobat Reader X

I have a collation problem with Acrobat Reader X and HP LaserJet M2727 nf (using HP Universal Printing PCL 6 driver)
When printing multiple copies of a PDF, the result is always in the order 1,2,3 1,2,3 etc. (for a 3 page document for example)
This is the case even when I uncheck the default collate option.
How can I disable the collation option in this version?

Acrobat 9.0 Standard. Setting PDF file password from Excel VBA
Hi: I am trying to find a call to set the password of a PDF file that I am creating from Excel Workbook using a VBA call.
I basically have this Excel VBA code that works fine and creates a file.
                pBook.PrintOut Copies:=1, preview:=False, ActivePrinter:="Adobe PDF", _
                               PrintToFile:=True, collate:=True, PrToFileName:=PSFileName
' Convert the postscript file to .pdf
                Dim myPDF As PdfDistiller
                Set myPDF = New PdfDistiller
                myPDF.FileToPDF PSFileName, "", ""
BUT, I need to set the password on this PDF file and do not see an option to do so.
Can you provide a solution for this situation? Appreciate your response in advance.
    Thanks.

There is no way to set password programmatically using any other dll or any other kit?
I am creating a bunch of PDF files for users programmatically but then they have to go in and set password themselves? This is very inconvenient for users.

  • Is possible to save a form using Acrobat Reader? How to?

    Hi all,
I designed a static pdf form using Livecycle. I want to send it to the form recipients, and I need they return me the pdf form filled. I can do this without problems on Adobe Acrobat Pro, but my mates that are using Adobe Reader can't save the filled form. Adobe Reader offers them to save a blank copy of the form or print it filled. But this isn't what I need. I need to have x copies of the form (of the pdf file) filled by my x recipients. Is there any option in Livecycle to allow saving the filled form on Acrobat Reader?
    Thanks in advance,
    Enrique Llorens
P.D. Apologies for my awful english...

    Hi Enrique,
In order for users with Reader to be able to save your form, it has to be 'Reader Enabled' before you send it out.
    You have three choices:
Reader enable the form with LC Reader Extensions ES2, which is a server based component of the enterprise suite. This is intended for processing large volumes of forms/data and is an additional cost per form.
Reader enable the form using Acrobat Standard v9 (or Acrobat Pro v7 to v8). This has license restrictions to less than 500 users per form.
Instead of users with Reader sending the form back as a PDF. You could set up a 'Submit as XML' button. This does not require the users with Reader to Save the form.
I have a summary of features (functions that are available/restricted) depending on whether the form is enabled and how it was enabled on our blog: http://assurehsc.ie/blog/index.php/2010/05/using-livecycle-forms-in-acrobat-and-reader/
When you open the sample at the end of the post, if you hover over the question marks, you will see screenshots of the enabling process.
    Hope that helps,
    Niall

  • Disable online services/features in Acrobat Reader DC?

With the new update being released from Reader to Acrobat Reader DC, I have concerns with the use of cloud storage and storing sensitive data.
I have looked around and the only information I have found for disabling these new features are in reference to groups who use the Acrobat Customization Wizard DC, which means they would be running an Enterprise version.
I have installed and tested the new Acrobat Reader DC on both Windows and OS X, there are no obvious options for disabling the services that I am referring to.
    Services I am referencing:
    Adobe cloud storage service
    Sending and tracking documents
Syncing across multiple devices (by use of cloud storage)
Is there a way to disable the use of these services on an individual (non Enterprise) install of Acrobat Reader DC?
    Thanks in advanced!

You can use the Adobe Customization Wizard DC on both Reader DC (Classic or Perpetual) versions.
    Adobe Customization Wizard
You can also use the Windows Registry to turn these services OFF.
