Acrobat XI crash with Referenced pages

unfortunately the latest version of Acrobat XI (and also previous Acrobat X version) could crash when opening a PDF file which have reference pages. For example a PDF/X-5g complaint PDF. The following conditions must be true:
Acrobat and Adobe Reader X and XI (tested up to 11.0.9) crash with nested Form XObjects if the innermost Form XObject contains a /Ref entry to reference an external page.
The crash does not happen if the /Ref is used in the outermost Form XObject.
The PDF contain more then 1 page.
Is there a way, to avoid the Acrobat Crash (except avoid nested FormXObjects?)
The sample PDF could be found here. In order to display the sample document it is important to properly configure Acrobat as follows:
Edit, Preferences, General..., Page Display, Show reference XObject targets: set to Always (the setting Only PDF-X/5 compliant ones doesn’t work due to a bug in Acrobat X/XI).
Edit, Preferences, General..., Page Display, Location of referenced files: enter the name of the directory where the target files live.
Edit, Preferences, General..., Security (Enhanced), Privileged Locations, Add Folder Path: add the name of the directory where the container documents live. This must be done regardless of the Enable Enhanced Security setting.
Please let me know, when you have any further questions or need further details.
Thanks in advance!
Rainer

  • Adobe Acrobat InDesign Crashes with intel iMac

I have been having numerous InDesign crashes with no apparent pattern (sometimes it happens when I use key commands and other times it just shuts down). Any ideas/help? Thank you.

    Hi!
Not sure which version of InDesign you are using; and some applications
had issues when they were not quite ready for use in both Intel and PPC
Macintosh computers. An older version may cause a problem in a new Mac.
There may be several things not quite right; but there are several things
that you failed to mention (best stated in forum linked below) and those
could be: model, processor, RAM installed, OS X version (10.5.x, etc.)
[Something as basic as using Disk Utility (see folder in apps) and choose
it to run "repair disk permissions" may help; but it may be more involved.]
The question you have may be better and more accurately addressed in
    this Intel® iMac forum: http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=189
Hopefully someone there more acquainted with these issues specific to
your hardware and the software you are attempting to use, has detailed ideas.
    Best regards!

  • 10.6.8 user receives Acrobat X crash when deleting pages in large PDF

I have a user that consistently has Acrobat X Pro crash on his whenever he is deleting pages from a PDF that has a large amount of pages.
He says the crashing is regular with PDFs that consist of 10+ pages.  He shift+clicks to select multiple pages and upon hitting the Delete key, the program will freeze and eventually crash.
He sent me over a crash log of the most recent event, if that is of any help.  I've pasted the crashlog header and the crashed thread:

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 crashes with IE 7

    Hello,
I have exhausted all the help resources I can find regarding issues like this. My client has a full version of Adobe Acrobat 8 (and also we have installed adobe reader 9.0 for testing purposes). Her office website has a button where she can create a printable directory to a .pdf. When she clicks this button (which would usually open Adobe with the requested data in it) Internet Explorer crashes. We have loaded Firefox and it works fine there.
In the debug report here is what I see:
    Error Signature:
    AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 7.0.6000.16791 ModName: hpswp_selection_ie7.dll
    ModVer: 2.15.7.0 Offset: 000284d4
The modname is hpswp? Why would IE7 try to open this document with HP software? I've verified that the default program for .pdfs is Adobe Acrobat 8. Where do you think this is coming from?
    -Rush

The messages I've seen had to do with "slow operation" not "crashing" but you mention a domain login... so this may help
Set the DEFAULT printer to a local, not network, printer... even if you have to define a "dummy" printer
There is evidently a bug in Acrobat when a network printer is the default... so may be worth a try to see if it fixes your problem

  • Acrobat reader crashes with C++ runtime

When i downloaded Acrobat Reader 9 i am getting a C++ runtime error. The problem happens because we are redirecting the Application Data on all of our machines. If i temporally map application data to c:\whatever it does not bomb out with the C++ runtime error. I can not stop the redirection because in our environment we use citrix and we want the users experience on the citrix servers and there desktops the same. Has anyone else seen this and is there a fix.
    Thanks,
    Ryan Burney

This has been going on for ages. From my understanding v9.0.0 has an issue running on a domain with redirected folders, in particular the appdata folder. For some reason, if this folder has a UNC path not a drive letter then version 9 (Reader and full version) crash on launch. There have been a number of posts around the web about this since v9 came out. I'm surprised that Adobe havent sorted this out, cant be that hard a fix and I would assume that Adobe corp HQ run a windows domain with folder redirection in place
We're still running 8.1.3, and waiting patiently for 9.0.1

    Hello,
I just installed Solaris 8 on a sun4u machine. After that I installed the recommended patches cluster. When trying to start Acrobat Reader 4.05 the CDE session crashes. After deinstalling the patch 108652-40 Acrobat Reader is working well again. Any hints where this behaviour comes from or what to do?
    TIA

  • QT 7.1 crashes with referenced h.264 movie on Intel Mac

I am currently attempting to create a referenced QT movie so that I can remotely update content in a retail display. I am using high def footage, h.264 compressed (.mov file) with a Mac Mini Intel hooked up to a 65inch plasma screen display. The footage plays perfectly (on a loop) for around 2 hours at a time, and then QT (7.0.1) crashes (unexpectedly quits). Yesterday I witnessed the crash, the screen flickered green back and forth with my moving footage, then turned green, then QT Player crashed.
My referenced files vary from 10MB to 300MB in size, they play perfectly and smoothly as a referenced movie, except for the whole crashing problem after a couple of hours... Any suggestions? The Mac Mini specs are: 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo, 512 MB DDR2 SDRAM osx 10.4.6
Currently I am playing a loop of all my movies as 1 long file (2.5GB in size) with no problems, but I need to update remotely, hence the referenced movie requirements. The movie needs to be looping 24/7.

Still trying to solve this problem. Does anyone know of any "good" playlist options for HD content (.mov, h.264, 1366x768pixels, 25fps) I have tried VLC player, which is the best so far, however they are having major problems with the intel macmini support, resulting in a green triangle splitting my video. Aside from that it plays perfectly, which nothing else seems to be able to achieve.
I have also tried iTunes playing videos in fullscreen, however it has some issues with the larger files (300mb) It seems to only work seamlessly in fullscreen mode with files smaller than 30MB or so. Applescript/automater enters and exits fullscreen mode between every single video=not good.
Any suggestions much appreciated, otherwise those PC vendors are going to get my business and not Apple! I would really prefer to use Apple, Quicktime, MacMini for presenting my High Def content.

  • Acrobat Pro Crash with Flash Import

Every time I try to import a Flash file with the Flash tool in Acrobat Pro v9.2.0 it crashes out. i thought it might have been a file size issue but it happens regardless of the size of the file I am trying to import.
I'm running 10.6.1 on a MacBook Pro which is a year old.

BSOD's are never good. They point to a problem much bigger and deeper than any software issues.
When XP came out eleven years ago, people were astonished at how much processor it took to handle the GUI vs Windows 98. Processors an RAM have upgraded a lot since then. It was worse with VIsta, even on newer systems. Seven was a step in the right direction, but I'd guess that your old computer (your words, not mine) isn't up to the task of running Windows 7.

  • When I extract pages from a PDF and go to "Save As", Acrobat completely crashes and disappears. Why?

I work for a remote desktop hosting company, and am having an issue with Adobe Acrobat that we have installed on one of our customer's terminal servers.
The OS running on the customer's TS is Windows 2008 R2 Standard. The customer is running Windows 8.1 on their local PC.
Basically, the customer will open up a PDF within Adobe Acrobat, extract a couple of pages, and go to "Save As" within the new window. At this point, the software will crash and close immediately.
Going through the same process on another Windows 8.1 PC, logged on as the same user onto the TS, the problem does not happen.
It seems that this problem only happens on the customer's PC. We have tried logging on as other users on to the TS from this PC and get the same crashing and closing problem.
Is there an obvious answer to this that I seem to be missing?
    Many thanks in advance!

  • Why does OCR crash with Acrobat XI on a brand new Mac. It happens almost every time on a long document.

Brand new Macbook Pro, running OS X Mavericks. Latest trial version of Acrobat Pro. I need to make lengthy (say 1,000 pages) document searchable. OCR crashes after a couple of hundred pages every time. I get an error like this:
    abort() called
terminating with uncaught exception of type IDRS::CIDRSException

I've had a similar problem.  I was going to start a new thread but I think I'll just include my problem here.
I am OCRing (if you'll allow me to turn OCR into a verb) a large number of documents.  Every once in awhile Acrobat crashes.  It gives the message that I've pasted in below.  There was some discussion about this in a previous thread, but that concerned Acrobat 9, and an Adobe representative responded to the thread, saying that the problem would be fixed with 9.1.  There was talk there of the problem being one of resolution of image, but that possibility seemed to have been ruled out.  This problem usually occurs with larger files (greater than, say, 25 GB), and rarely with smaller ones.  (I should mention that I'm OCRing Japanese language documents, but this really shouldn't make a difference.)
Other threads about this: Acrobat 9 crashes on OCR and OCR CrashingCan anyone help me with a problem I am having with the current OCR engine crashing, I have a lot of difficul….
If Acrobat simply skipped the problem pages it wouldn't be such a problem, as I'd simply have, say, three or four non-OCR pages in a 500-page document, but that's not the case.  Instead it crashes and I then have to go back and actually watch the OCR process, waiting to see which page is the problem so that I can manually skip it.  This turns a process that ideally is one my computer does while I cook dinner or do other work into a time-consuming endeavor.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  If I need to post an example of the problem page here I can do so.

  • Acrobat Now Crashes When Appending with Scanner

I have Acrobat 9.3.3 installed and everything worked great until all of a sudden it now crashes almost every time I try to append to a document with scanning in additinal pages.  As well as it'll crash from time to time when I do a "Save As".  The crashes seemed to start after I installed a Wacom Bamboo tablet.  But I'm not sure how that can effect it.
My system is Win 7 64bit, scanner is a Canon DR-2580C using the same driver as always.
I've reinsalled Acrobat completly and my scanner driver but the crashing is still there.  It seems to be fine when I scan in the first batch of docs to a new file, but then I can't append to a doc with more without crashing.
After installing the Wacom tablet, Acrobat poped up with a wizzard for doing Accessibility options (which I don't want) so I went back into preferences and unchecked everything under accessibility.  And still crashing.
Below is what my event viewer shows for the last Acrobat crash:
    Event 1000, Application Error
Faulting application name: Acrobat.exe, version: 9.3.3.177, time stamp: 0x4c1d77c5
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7600.16559, time stamp: 0x4ba9b29c

    Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ntdll.dll
    Report Id: e57fccef-9686-11df-91e8-00261896d28c
Not sure what the deal is.  I'll try removing the wacom tablet but it's something I need to have now.
    Thanks!

Problem Solved!  I removed the Accessibility.api plugin from Acrobat and now my scanner and Acrobat is back to working normal with no crashes.  AND with my Wacom tablet installed and running.  So something about the accessibility screen reader part and the Wacom tablet don't like each other.
I disabled the accessibility option plugin as this other member posted:
"If you are trying to disable a plug-in the preferred method is to crate a new subdirectory under the Acrobat application, like "optional" or "disabled" and move the api plug-in file you want to disable to that folder. This keeps the name and extension standard and easily allows one to renable the API. But this process has to be done to each user's system and does not allow selectively turning it on or off. "
