Actions and extensions

Hi all
So here's my issue.
I have a project on illustrator, with multiple documents (or a single multipage doc) with a design and a different QRCode placed at the same place on all pages.
So I guessI need to create an action that will duplicate a page, and put a QRCode at the specific place, the list of links being provided by an external document (Excell, word, whatever).
So far, I have found an extension that will allow me to create those QRCodes.
But I didnt find how I could integrate the action of calling up the extension while recording the action script, and how to link it to the external document.
So if someone could tell me how, or what workflow I could use to achieve this goal it would be great.
Furthermore, I guess i will need to use the variables for the list of urls, and I dont know exactly how to use those yet. If someone could explain, or link to a good page where this would be explained I would appreciate.

Error updating Dreamweaver and Extension Manager CS6 (Creative Cloud)

I'm having troubles updating Dreamweaver and Extension Manager CS6 (Creative Cloud) on Macbook Pro with OS version 10.8.2. I get this error codes for both updates U44M1P7.
The log files are generated.

In this log file I can see you are getting Error : U44M1P7 while updating the software
This Error comes where language packs for software are not installed properly on the machine.
I would suggest to update Adobe Application manager from
Windows : http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4773
MAC: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4774
then try to install the update if still you are not able to update software and getting same error then uninstall all the Adobe software selecting remove prefernces.
After uninstalling the software run the Adobe Cleaner tool(http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html) and remove the leftovers.

Slow scrolling with all add-ons and extensions disabled, but OK is safe mode

I have a page for work, with a lot of links, that scrolls very slowly, with a choppy action. It is the same with all add-ons and extensions disabled. But when restarted in safe mode, the scrolling is OK.
What else does the safe mode block? Or what could be the problem.

In Firefox 4 and later Safe mode disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.

Try to disable hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

Actions in Extensions of ByDesign BOs possible?

Is it possible to create Actions in Extensions of ByDesign BOs?
If I try to activate an BO Extension with defined Actions, i get the following Error Message:
"Generating aborted because of errors in the extended business object"
Without any Actions in the BO Extension i don't get this Message.

For extension of ByDesign BOs the extension framework is used. This extension framework was developed to support extensions of ByDesign BOs and their related UIs, forms etc.. The framework does not allow yet in FP2.6 to include additional actions, queries, nodes or associations as extensions to existing ByDesign BOs. In FP2.6 only elements can be included for some special nodes within the BO and even certain datatypes must be used since not all datatypes are supported by the framework.
To have additional extension possibilities already within ByDesign BOs is definitely a requirement of many extension scenarios. So it might be that further extension possibilities will be offered in the future. This is definitely on the road map.
FP2.6, however, offers already some additional possibilities to create larger extension scenarios. With the help of a newly created BO and a related UI embedded component it is possible to extend a standard ByDesign UI if certain conditions are fufilled. With such a technique it is for example possible to offer a new action button on the UI or to show additional data of the newly created BO in the context of the ByDesign UI.
We are currently working on a how-to document for such additional extension options and will offer this document in the WIKI when it is finalized.

Edit Actions and Advanced Actions in some kind of text editor

Is there any way to edit Actions and Advanced Actions in some kind of text editor?
The built-in GUI is fine for little tweaks, but trying to use it for anything real is a almost impossible.
Can Creative Suite open a Captivate project and give access to the Actionscript in the project?
Is there a text file someplace that can be extracted, editted, and put back in?

I'm facing the problem that I have very extensive Advanced Actions in Captivate in which I want to change a variable x into a variable y. Doing it manually would take about a day or so.
It would be great if there was some kind of workaround.

Does any know a FM or class, which is released and I can use to get the file name and extension?
Normally I used the FM SPLIT_FILE.
But this FM does only exports CHAR3.
So I get a problem with new office-files (XLSX, DOCX)...

Automation plugin as action and via File/Automate

Hi,
I have an Automation plugin that is scriptable (it has a number of exposed scriptable parameters and can be recorded and run from Actions palette). The plugin displayes the UI when it is called interactively (from File/Automate).
I am however having troubles distinguishing when it is called from an Action palette as a playback of recorded action and when it actually was called interactively from File/Automate (testing it in Photoshop CS6). On plugin invocation I check passed action descriptor and if not empty, read parameters from it and don't show the UI. On the call end, I write script parameters back to a descriptor to be able to use them in recorded action. With this in mind, after PS start first time selecting File/Automate works as expected - no descriptor/parameters passed into the plugin. But after a first call, Photoshop seems to keep the descriptor/parameters written at the end of the plugin and passes it on subsequent user invoked File/Automate. The same happens if plugin is getting called from a recorded action playback (and its expected). Basically after a first invocaction, the plugin will always receive action descriptor whether it called from an action playback or invoked by user.
I need to distinguish these two cases and basically present UI/start from scratch when user invokes it and use the passed action parameters when action plays it. I have not found anything in SDK to point me to the solution so I'd appreciate the help.
In filter plugins I can at least get selector start when invoked from UI and use that to free/ignore the action descriptor data.

I don't think you should care. The option you do care about is this one:
PIDialogPlayOptions playInfo
That is part of PIActionParameters *actionParameters
That is part of your PSActionsPlugInMessage that comes into your automation plugin entrypoint.
This parameter has three options:
a) always display the dialog,
b) only display the dialog if you don't like the parameters you are given,
c) never display a dialog (either return an error or proceed with best options but don't stop with a dialog)
From the file menu, user selected, you should get option a (always). From the actions panel you should get option a or b. From scripting you can get all three options.
There is also a property in PIProperties.h called propPlayInProgress but the above information should be what you need to do the correct thing with dialogs.

How can I move my preferences and extensions to a new computer? Have I done it successfully?

My old computer crashed. I've set up the new computer. I copied all the profile files/folders to the profile on the new computer in both the local and roaming folders.
Does this copy over my preferences and extensions? The help pages say they don't tell how to copy those since they can be the cause of problems. However, they weren't problems. So I want them copied. The extensions folder on the old computer was empty (I don't recall if It'd had any installed or just bookmarked some.) I remember making some specific preferences changes in that "advanced" file (that worked fine afterward.)
So with what I did, did I successfully copy everything over? If not - where are the extensions and preferences so that I can copy them over?
Bonus big question - is there a way to merge my old browsing history with the history on the new computer that I used for 10 days? Right now I set those 10 days as a separate profile, so I can save and go check it if I really need to.

Take the good profile and copy it to the new computer. Also copy all
of your add-ons. On the new computer, start Firefox. Once it is running,
shut it down. Then transfer the information from the old profile to the new.
Thess add-ons can save all add-ons into a single folder for transfer.

If you are using Apple's Mail app 6.5 is the latest version irrespective of what a previous poster says. It does sound though that you are using a gmail account online via a web browser. Please confirm and fill in missing information.

The button on the top that you use to lock and unlock or put to sleep is the power button. The button lower center of the screen is the home button...can be used to also wake from sleep and switch to the base home screen.

(I have the original file somewhere else, and am working with an intermediate copy).
But since I have several hundred photos, how do I create an action (and really – a droplet) that will save the resulting file to the desired name? Typically placing photo ‘PRODUCT_001’ into photo ‘B’, alters photo ‘STANDARD_BKGRND’, so I can’t save the result back to ‘PRODUCT_001’. Said differently, in a droplet, each time it's run saves the result back to the same filename 'STANDARD_BKGRND'.
The end result – I want to apply that droplet to all the PRODUCT_***.TIF files in a given folder, and end up with the same file names as before.

PS - I have no scripting experience in PS, but have written code in other applications/scenarios.

Its great that your products are cutouts layers, Its easy to put cutouts on backgrounds and even add layer style to the product layer to enhance the composite. Still cutouts have size and resolution as do your background images.
When you make composites. A document that is place in or pasted into the current document will be resample to match the current documents DPI resolution to preserve the size of the document being place or pasted in size.
Additionally if your using place if the document being placed in does not fit within the current document's canvas size. Photoshop may scale the image to fit within the canvas. It depends on your user id Photoshop Preference setting.
That means you need you handle the sizes involved.
I would think that you would want the final composite to be the size of the background image.
You need to know its size and dpi resolution. You must use image size on your product image and make the image have the same dpi resolution and a size smaller then the background image. Perhas they have the same dip resolution as the background and are smaller in size. If that the cast their size are good no image resize is required,
Then you need to use canvas size to make the document have the same size and resolution as the background image.
You may want to center the product layer over the canvas however Canvas size will add canvas evenly around the produt layer's layer bounds when you leave the anchor point in the center.
When you then place in the background image it will not be resampled for it has the same dpi resolution as the current document and it will not be scaled for it is an exact canvas size fit. All that remains to be done is move the current placed layer below the product layer
The document name is the product image file name opened by you or by Photoshop automate batch process.

Said differently, in a droplet, each time it's run saves the result back to the same filename 'STANDARD_BKGRND'.
The end result – I want to apply that droplet to all the PRODUCT_***.TIF files in a given folder, and end up with the same file names as before.

Actions don't have access to the document name (where the file name is). Scripts do, however.
If your products are sequentially numbered, you're in luck. You can overide the "Save as command" and make sure that your naming uses a sequence which you can set to the same starting number as your product. Here is an example of how to configure File -> Automate -> Batch (assume the set and action are your hand built one)
Instead of "Document name" you'd type "PRODUCT_" per your example and choose a 3 digit Serial number.
The "Starting Serial #" is where you can change if your products are numbered say, 101 and up.

All the instructions on synching start with "find your device in the device window". But what if you have no device window?

Missing "message" from above: The iPad "DGMTR" is synced with another iTunes library on DGMTR's MacBook Pro. Do you want to erase this iPad and sync with this iTunes library? An iPad can be synched with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iTunes library.
I thought the libraries were the same.

How to fix privacy and extensions tab that are blank (using Safari 5.1.7)

I have looked at the help provided in this forum for fixing the privacy and extension tabs that happen to now be blank. However, being new to a mac, I was not able to follow those instructions. If anyone can give me some help/guidance, I would really appreciate it. Also, what exactly does the privacy tab do? If it has been blank for a while and I have been to websites and used my credit card information was it secure? Thanks so much in advance for any/all help. TAD

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

How can I save ONLY the bookmarks and extensions

I am about to do a clean reinstall of Firefox. I want to save ONLY the Bookmarks and Extensions and NOTHING ELSE from the Firefox Profile. How can I do this please?
