ActionScript 3 logging and log Class

Hello All, I am a bit of novice in ActionScript 3. I am attempting to create an application in Flash were clients can exchange and send messages to each other. I have heard logAppend  logTarget, logWindow etc can achieve this in Flex Builder. Can this code work in Flash? If the answer is yes, can you provide me some examples of the code please or give me a link so i can read and learn more about the code?
If the answer is no then, what do i do?
Thank You

i don't think so.  i don't see any references, for example, to logAppend anywhere on adobe.com.
use the netgroup class to create a peer-to-peer chat app.

Bug: 2780176 - Logging and logging out multiple times in LCDS can cause duplicate session detected errors.
QA: Yes
Doc: No
Checkintests: Pass
Details: When a logout was followed by an immediate login, sometimes the server would throw duplicate session detected errors. This was because when logout happened, a fire-and-forget disconnect message was sent to the server that established a new session, and if the subsequent login happened before disconnect ACK returned from the server, that would establish another session and hence the error. The fix is to insert a slight delay between disconnect and ResultEvent dispatching. This way, disconnect has a chance to return before a login is performed.

You've got an  incompatible Logitech driver and java was incompletely uninstalled.
You may have a problem with the Wacom driver.
I don't know if fixing those things will help.
There also a few window server errors, but I don't know if they are causal.
If you can note the time of the hangs, that might help narrow it down in the logs.

I installed the OAS 9.0.4(10g) and tried to use Application Sever Control to search the log files or log repository. The secure.log message is explained at the bottom of Spurious Permission errors in OS X 10.4.
For your ipfw logs, check that /etc/periodic/weekly/500.weekly contains the line
for i in ftp.log lookupd.log lpr.log mail.log netinfo.log hwmond.log ipfw.log ppp.log secure.log; do
(although I don't know why it wouldn't) and then check this is actually being run by looking at /var/log/weekly.out. Try
tail -10 /var/log/weekly.out
Let us know what you see.
I haven't seen that kernel message before

• Extended format of access.log and log rotation

I am using WebLogic Server 6.1sp1. I want to use extended format of web
server access log. I also want to use log rotation based on date. But it
seems not to work together. After my investigation I can say:
- access.log in common format can be rotated based on date an on size,
- access.log in extended format (either in its default form or
completely redefined) cannot be rotated neither based on date nor size.
In the second case at first time WebLogic tries to rotate logfile
IOException is thrown with a message like "java.io.IOException: Failed
to rename log file on attempt to rotate logs". Than it throws
IOException with a message "Exception flushing HTTP log file. (Bad file
descriptor)." when it tries to flush content of logfile to the disk.
After that WebLogic server stops to write to access.log.
Is it possible to rotate access.log in extended format?
Thanks,

- Some linebreaks have been added to the logs above to make the whole post more readable!
Before I made the (almost?) successfull promotion to OD Master I did:
- Make sure reverse DNS is working
- Made the server's Network Preferences DNS server point to 127.0.0.1
- Set the hostname via "sudo scutil --set HostName"
- /etc/hostconfig contains "HOSTNAME=-AUTOMATIC-"
- The server is running DNS, AFP, Web, MySQL & Mail
- How serious are the errors I can see in the logs?
- How an I fix them?

the message "kadmin.local: unable to get default realm" indicates that your
/Library/Preferences/edu.mit.Kerberos file is missing or incorrect.
Using workgroup manager look at the KerberosClient record (you may need to go into the preferences and set the "show all records" checkbox), look in the XMLPlist attribute for an xml representation of the edu.mit.Kerberos file.
as root on the OD Master, run klist -k to view keytabs (there should be 3 mostly identical entries for each service)
also as root on the OD Master, run kadmin.local -q "listprincs" to view the principals in the kdc.

• Question regarding use of Log and LogFactory in Servlets

Hi,
I saw the following code in an application and I would like to know where the log information would be stored. It appears that the log information is not displayed on the screen and was not able to find out where the log files are. The application was created using NetBeans and was using Tomcat. Thanks in advance.
import org.apache.common.logging.*;
public class Test extends HttpServlet
private static final Log log = LogFactory.getLog(Test.class);
String theHost;
String theSource;
public void init (ServletConfig config) throws ServletException
super.init(config);
log.info(debug Enabled: +log.isDebugEnabled());
ServletContext context =config.getServletContext();
this.thisHost=/Test/+config.getServletName();
etc. etc.
log.info(thisHost:+this.thisHost);
log.debug(Source: +theSource());
etc, etc.
}

It depends on what logging system you have set up.
Commons.logging is an abstraction layer above logging components. It allows your code to use a variety of logging systems. However those logging systems have to be set up and configured by you. This can be via system properties, properties files, XML config files (depends on the logging system and how you use it).
So you need to figure out which logging system is being used and then configue that system to write the logs

Recently noticed a ballooning [ServerName].out file in the logs directory. In weblogic management console I do have it configured to redirect stdout and stderr to weblogic logging (.log file). Both the .log and .out file contain the same stdout/stderr information. I would like to eliminate the .out file if possible (since WL only rotates the .log), but cannot find where it is configured. The managed servers are NOT windows services (no -log option).
Did not find any logging parameters in JAVA_OPTIONS or paramters in the startManagedSvc.cmd file.
Is this something needing to be corrected at the application level? (log4j)

• Utilize Apache Commons Logging and Log4J

Hello Forum,
I have some questions regarding the usage of Apache Commons Logging in combination
with Log4J. As wer're doing cross platform development for JBoss and NetWeaver I
can't rely on SAP Logging facilities.
The information I used to set up the logging are written down in the Article:
"Integrating 3rd Party Logging Frameworks into SAP NetWeaver".
I created the package "util" within my testing project and placed the .java classes
"SapLogAppender.java" and "SapLogJclImpl.java" into it.
After that I created a log4j.xml configuration file with the following content:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<!DOCTYPE log4j:configuration SYSTEM "log4j.dtd">
<log4j:configuration xmlns:log4j='http://jakarta.apache.org/log4j/'>
      <appender name="STDOUT" class="org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender">
        <layout class="org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout">
          <param name="ConversionPattern" value="%-5p %C (Line %L) - %m%n"/>
        </layout>
      </appender>
      <appender name="FILE_LOG" class="org.apache.log4j.FileAppender">
        <param name="File" value="${user.dir}/log/myTestLogFile.log"/>
        <param name="append" value="false"/>
        <param name="ImmediateFlush" value="true"/>
        <layout class="org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout">
          <param name="ConversionPattern" value="%d %-5p %C (Line %L) - %m%n"/>
        </layout>
      </appender>
      <appender name="SAP_LOG" class="de.collogia.util.SapLogAppender">
        <param name="categoryName" value="sapmon"/>
      </appender>
      <category name="de.collogia" additivity="false">
        <priority value="debug" />
        <appender-ref ref="FILE_LOG"/>
        <appender-ref ref="SAP_LOG"/>
      </category>
      <root>
        <priority value="error" />
        <appender-ref ref="STDOUT"/>
      </root>
</log4j:configuration>
After that I created the file "commons-logging.properties" with the following content:
org.apache.commons.logging.Log=de.collogia.util.SapLogJclImpl
I put the configuration files in the root of the classes folder, created the .jar in the
EJB-Project, created the .ear in the EAR-Project and deployed the application.
The application contains just a simple session bean with a remotable method that
shall do some logging using the following statements:
LOG.trace("Testing log trace level");
LOG.debug("Testing log debug level");
LOG.info("Testing log info level");
The only logging output I'm able to find is located in file:
C:\NWAS_JAVAEE5\JP1\JC00\j2ee\cluster\server0\log\applications.0.log
and it logs the info level logging message.
If I understood the afore mentioned paper right the debug and trace level logging
mesages shall go to file:
C:\NWAS_JAVAEE5\JP1\JC00\j2ee\cluster\server0\log\defaultTrace.0.trc
Unfortunately there isn't logged anything. I looked through the log facility
in SAPMMC but there isn't anything to.
The most inconvenient behaviour of the NetWeaver is that since the my stateless
session beans class contains the logging code I'm only able to deploy once.
A second deplyoment fails with a large Exception I will append below. The problem
is definitely related to logging - after removing the line:
/** The <code>Log</code> object for this class. */
        private static final Log LOG = LogFactory.getLog(TravelAgentBean.class);
from the stateless session bean I'm able to deploy as often I like to.
The line re-enabled, deployed the ear, invoking the remotable method once and every
subsequent deplyoment fails with:
[EXCEPTION]
#1#com.sap.engine.services.orpersistence.container.deploy.ActionException: Clusterwide exception: java.io.IOException: Cannot delete file: C:

Well, yes - and no. The output you see is from the SAP Logging framework. But behind it still uses log4j / commons logging. And that's not surprising at all. That is exactly what the article describes - a bridge (routing) to SAP Logging, right? This is useful when you are porting existing apps (potentially using several logging frameworks) to the SAP NetWeaver Application Server and adapt them to use the SAP Logging framework thus achieving a unified logging experience. However, if you want to simply use log4j, I'd suggest that you just follow the steps described in Logging Questions isn't really

OK, it was not actually meant to serve as a solution, but more as an explanation for the error you experienced. But you're right, maybe I had to elaborate a bit. You already spotted the culprit:
LogFactory.getLog(TravelAgentBean.class)
With this line of code you hand the TravelAgentBean class to the Commons Logging library which then keeps (eternally) that reference and hence the classloader of your application. This prevents from deleting the jars on the next deployment since the resources are locked by the classloader.
Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any real solution right now. I just have the strong feeling that if you pack the logging frameworks together within your app (as opposed to as a separate library), this error should not occur at all.

• Diff bteween trace,log and audit log

Diff bteween trace,log and audit log....?
Harsha

Hi,
Audit Log :The adapter engine uses the messaging system to log the messages at every stage, This log is called the Audit Log.
The audit log can be viewed from the runtime work bench(RWB) to look into the details of the life cycle of the message. During our journey we will also have a look at the messages that are logged at different stages.
Audit logs are mainly used to trace our messages. In case of any failures, we can easily trace where message stands. we can give the entries for the logs in UDFs, custom modules etc..
Audit logs are generally gives us the sequence of the steps from where the message is picked up with file name and path and how the message is sent to the I.E pipeline..it also shows the status of the message like DLNG,DLVD like that...generally we look into the audit logs if there are any errors in message processing...
It gives the complete log of your message.
Go to RWB --> Component Monitoring --> Adapter Engine --> Communication channel Monitoring --> Select the Communicatin channel --> click on use filter --> then click on the Message Id.
Trace Log:
Log file:
A log file contains generally intelligible information for system administrators. The information is sorted by categories and is used for system monitoring. Problem sources or critical information about the status of the system are logged in this file. If error messages occur, you can determine the software component that has caused the error using the location. If the log message does not provide enough details to eliminate the problem, you can find more detailed information about the error in the trace file.
The log file is located in the file system under
"/usr/sap/SID/instance/j2ee/cluster/server[N]/log/applications.[n].log" for every N server node.
Access the file with the log viewer service of the J2EE visual administrator or with the standalone log viewer.
Trace file:
A trace file contains detailed information for developers. This information can be very cryptic and extensive. It is sorted by location, which means by software packages in the Java environment, for example, "com.sap.aii.af". The trace file is used to analyze runtime errors. By setting a specific trace level for specific locations, you can analyze the behavior of individual code segments on class and method level. The file should be analyzed by SAP developers or experienced administrators.
The trace file is located in the file system under
"/usr/sap/SID/instance/j2ee/cluster/server[N]/log/defaultTrace.[x].trc" for each N server node.
Access the file with the log viewer service of the J2EE visual administrator or with the standalone log viewer.

• Weird Log and Transfer warning

So I'm teaching a class and the students have their AVCHD camcorders connected and we're ingesting using Log and Transfer. All the clips appear in the window and it's working fine. But every few minutes, all the students get a warning dialogue that says:
".fn contains unsupported material or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media."
All they have to do is dismiss the warning and keep working. But then it will come up again in a few minutes.
Anyone know what this means?
Thanks very much.

I'd try and copy the Hard disk contents to the computer before log and transfer.  There may be some material on the camera hard disk that's not part of what log and transfer is looking for and when log and transfer sees those elements, it gives you that warning.  Do you want to open the camera's hard disk on the mac describe the folder structure.  It's possible you need to navigate to the appropriate folder and mount that in the log and transfer window, not the entire camera hard drive.

• Annotation and logging

Hello,
Since Java 1.4, we can use java.util.logging to help debugging code. It's very easy (and very usefull) to add some line like:
log.fine("The value is "+value);
The only drawback is performance: even if logging is disable, the expression ["The value is "+value] will
be evaluated by the JVM, which is a problem. So the best things to do is:
if (log.isLoggable(Level.FINE)) log.fine("The value is "+value);
So that when logging is disable, there is almost no impact on performance.
Now the problem is a practical one: adding the "if ..." is painfull, and make the code less readable for a human being.
Now that Java 1.5 is out, I'm wondering if we cannot use annotations to turn arround this problem:
Let's say we have a annotation type called "@Conditionnal()", which takes one argument (the condition):
* Annotation type to indicate that a method shoud be called only if a condition is true
public @interface Conditionnal {
String condition();
In java.util.logging, the Logguer class will have his severe(), info(), fine(), finer() and finest() methods
defined like that:
@Conditionnal("if (isLoggable(Level.FINE))")
public void fine(String msg)
Now, the end user (the developper) can put in its programs:
log.fine("The value is "+value);
And when a method is "@Conditionnal", javac will add the condition before calling the method, so it will compile exactly like :
if (isLoggable(Level.FINE)) log.fine(...);
Of course, we need to change javac to take into account this new annotation @Conditionnal (like javac 1.5 takes into accound @Override annotation).
I know that the @Conditionnal sounds like a macro, but I think it is an elegant way of dealing the logging problem.
What do you think about it? Should I open a JCP?
Regards,
Arnaud

Hi,
Well, the problem with your examples is that there are no String in them, and String are the main problem.
So I agree with you that in your example, there will be no difference in execution time.
It's my turn to give you an example:
import java.util.logging.*;
public class Test1
         static Logger log = Logger.getLogger(Test1.class.getName());
         Test1()
              long t1 = System.currentTimeMillis();
              for (int i=0; i<1000*1000*10; i++)
                   square(i);
              long t2 = System.currentTimeMillis();
              log.severe("Duration = "+(t2-t1));
         long square(long n)
              log.finest("The value of n is "+n);
              return n*n;
         public static void main(String arg[])
              new Test1();
}When I run this little test, I have (on my machine) Duration=5899
Why? Because the GC is doing a lot of work with the strings ["The value of n is "+n].
If you add -Xverbosegc, you will see a lot of:
[GC 612K->100K(1984K), 0.0001039 secs]
[GC 612K->100K(1984K), 0.0001140 secs]
Because all thoses strings are evaluated, even if they are not displayed.
If I just change my example in:
import java.util.logging.*;
public class Test1
         static Logger log = Logger.getLogger(Test1.class.getName());
         Test1()
              long t1 = System.currentTimeMillis();
              for (int i=0; i<1000*1000*10; i++)
                   square(i);
              long t2 = System.currentTimeMillis();
              log.severe("Duration = "+(t2-t1));
         long square(long n)
              if (log.isLoggable(Level.FINEST)) log.finest("The value of n is "+n);
              return n*n;
         public static void main(String arg[])
              new Test1();
}I have have on my machine: Duration = 260.
It's now 20 time faster...
Of course, if I configure logging to have ALL message (even the finest), the performance
will be very bad, but the point is that when I disable logging, I do have good performance
only if I add "if (log.isLoggable(Level.FINEST))" tests everywhere in my code.
I've made on comparaison with assertion, because before Java 1.4, people had to use
their own system of assertion, which used to have an impact on performance
(like the method "myAssert" in the following example)
import java.util.logging.*;
public class Test2
         static Logger log = Logger.getLogger(Test2.class.getName());
         Test2()
              long t1 = System.currentTimeMillis();
              for (int i=0; i<1000*1000*10; i++)
                   square(i);
              long t2 = System.currentTimeMillis();
              log.severe("Duration = "+(t2-t1));
         void myAssert(boolean test, String message)
              if (test==false)
                   throw new RuntimeException(message);
         long square(long n)
              assert(n*n>=0) : "The value of n*n should be positive. n="+n+" n*n="+(n*n);
              myAssert(n*n>=0, "The value of n*n should be positive. n="+n+" n*n="+(n*n));
              return n*n;
         public static void main(String arg[])
              new Test2();
}With the key work "assert", the string ["The value of n should be positive. n="+n+" n*n="+(n*n)] is only
evaluated if the condition n*n>=0 is true (which means never).
With the call to the method "myAssert", the same string is always evaluated, which has a deep impact
on performance (the same as in the logging example).
I wish that logging system in Java would be clever like assertion system, and that's why I suggest a
@Condionnal annotation.
Regards,
Arnaud

• OC4J and Logging

Hi,
I'm trying to figure out how to send all my logging information from a deployed application to OC4J's application.xml? I've read the documentation on logging and it was not very helpful.
Any help would be appreciated. We would probably implement Java's logging framework but have yet to figure out how to connect our custom deployed application logging to OC4J's logging.
Thank you.
-John

Hi ,
I was finally able to see my custom log through Application Server Control.Hope this helps someone in the future.
First I tried adding an entry like
<log>
<odl path="../log/Application1-Project11-WS/" max-file-size="1000" max-directory-size="10000" />
</log> to the applications orion-application.xml. (http://otndnld.oracle.co.jp/document/products/as10g/101300/B25221_03/web.1013/b14432/logadmin.htm)
This created a log.xml (xml version of application.log) in ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/instance_name/application-deployments/log/instance_name_default_group_1/Application1-Project11-WS folder. This could be viewed through AS Control Logs->OC4J-><instance name>-><Application name> -> Diagnostic message logs ->log.xml.
Now since I wanted my custom log to appear in the same location, I removed my changes in orion-application.xml and changed my path in j2ee-logging.xml to the same path where log.xml was earlier created.
I set the path as follows:
<log_handler name="integration-handler" class="oracle.core.ojdl.logging.ODLHandlerFactory">
<property name="path" value="%ORACLE_HOME%/j2ee/%OPMN_PROC_TYPE%/application-deployments/log/%OPMN_PROC_TYPE%_%OPMN_PROC_SET%_%OPMN_PROC_INDEX%/Application1-Project11-WS/"/>
<property name="maxFileSize" value="10485760"/>
<property name="maxLogSize" value="104857600"/>
<property name="encoding" value="UTF-8"/>
<property name="supplementalAttributes" value="J2EE_APP.name,J2EE_MODULE.name,WEBSERVICE.name,WEBSERVICE_PORT.name"/>
</log_handler>
<loggers>
<logger name="oracle.integration" level="ERROR:1" useParentHandlers="false">
<handler name="integration-handler"/>
</logger>
</loggers>
where Application1-Project11-WS is the application name.
and my java class calls :
Logger theLogger = Logger.getLogger("oracle.integration");
theLogger.severe(text);
thanks
