Active-Active replication

Hi , I'm implementing Active -active replication between two oracle databases, please find below my replicat setup,
REPLICAT REP_A
USERID ggadmin, PASSWORD ggadmin
DISCARDFILE E:\ggs\dirrpt\conf_dsc.rpt, append
ASSUMETARGETDEFS
DDL INCLUDE ALL
DDLERROR DEFAULT IGNORE RETRYOP
--HANDLECOLLISIONS
APPLYNOOPUPDATES
GETAPPLOPS
IGNOREREPLICATES
ALLOWDUPTARGETMAP
MAP MY_USER.EMPLOYEE, TARGET MY_USER.EMPLOYEE, &
REPERROR (22000, DISCARD), &
SQLEXEC ( ID checkemployee, ON UPDATE, &
QUERY "select count(*) empduplicate from MY_USER.EMPLOYEE where employee_id = :p1 and &
employee_timestamp > :p2 ", &
PARAMS (p1 = employee_id, p2 = employee_timestamp), BEFOREFILTER, ERROR REPORT, &
TRACE ALL),&
FILTER (checkemployee.empduplicate = 0 , ON UPDATE, RAISEERROR 22000 );
This same replicat prm configured on both source and target environments , the processes are running fine, but while try to update the same row at a time in source and target , i'm getting the below error message in both side and replicat process goes ABEND status, please help me to resolve this issue and guide me how to avoid conflict with help of timestamp?>
2011-06-27 18:11:40 GGS ERROR 218 Oracle GoldenGate Delivery for Oracle, REP_C.prm: Error mapping from MY_USER.EMPLOYEE to MY_USER.EMPLOYEE.
2011-06-27 18:11:40 GGS ERROR 190 Oracle GoldenGate Delivery for Oracle,
REP_A.prm: PROCESS ABENDING.

You'll have to look at the full report file.
You've pasted the replicat file for "REP_A", but the error message says REP_C.prm.
From a support perspective, the great thing about report files is that they contain the exact param (*.prm) file used when the process was started. So even if someone changes the prm file after the fact, the report file always contains the "real" params used to start the process.
Also, just to take this one step at a time, try to not run in active/active mode. First, try to replicate in one direction, and just manually create the row in the target that you want to cause the conflict. (It's possible that you don't have the active-active configuration correct... Do you have a trace table to exclude cycles? You should explicitly use the "traceTable" param so this is clear. Or do you want to use "excludeUser" to avoid cycles?)
Thanks,
-Michael

  • Active Directory Replication 2008 R2

    Hi
We are getting an error as "The following server could not be reached (topology incomplete)"
    Domain Controllers: 2008 R2
How can we resolve this issue.
    Aravind

The error message mentions that the server is not reachable.
You might want to start with checking the basics:
Check that the faulty DC has its A, CNAME and SRV records properly registered in your DNS system (You can
NSlookup for checking: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/29184.nslookup-for-beginners.aspx). If this is not the case then you follow the IP settings recommendation I mentioned here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/18513.active-directory-replication-issues-basic-troubleshooting-steps-single-ad-domain-in-a-single-ad-forest.aspx).
Once the IP settings are corrected then you can ipconfig /registerdns
    command
Check that required ports for AD replication are opened between your DCs and are not filtered: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd772723%28v=ws.10%29.aspx
If none helped then you can temporary disable security software you use on DCs and check again
The last resort could be to demote the DC and promote it again.

  • Migration SBS2003 to SBS2008 Active Directory Replication

I am migrating from SBS2003 server to SBS2008.  I fired up the 2008 server on the network with the 2003 server and started the migration.  I got about 25% progress on the “Expanding and Installing Files” window when I got an error message of “Active Directory Replication is taking longer than expected.  You can choose whether to continue waiting.  If you choose not to wait the migration may fail.  Unless you are sure that replication is working correctly, it is recommended that you continue to wait”.  After waiting three times of 20 minutes each I don’t think it is working.  What are my options?  What can I check for?

    Hi,
As it is a SBS-related issue, you may wish to post to the SBS newsgroup. This will provide access to others who read the public newsgroups regularly who will either share their knowledge.

  • Active Directory Replication failed

    Hi all,
I'm deploying lync server 2010 in virtual server.
My Domain controller is a physical server.
Windows update restart is done when almost 90% of deployment is completed.
During enabling users in Lync Server control panel
I have got an issue after server restart, is active directory replication failed.
    Regards,
    Arun.

The problem is more related with Domain Controller.
Please check the event log on Domain Controller.

  • Active/passive replication

    Hi,
I cannnee find a sufficiently detailed breakdown of the exact features within each license version of 10g. Can someone tell me if the standard edition of 10g provides the ability to setup up an active/passive replication between two completely separate machines? From what I can see this is only available in the enterprise edition through the data guard feature. It would be annoying that such a basic replication feature is not available outside of the high price version.
    Thanks,

  • FWSM Active/Active Failover ICMP replication

I have an issue with WS-SVC-FWM-1 module - in the active/active failover it doesn't make ICMP connection state replication with asr-groups configured on the respective interfaces. Although other connections are working just fine (asymmetric routing is verified with 'show ip cef' on the MSFC) it seems that only newer ASAs are doing ICMP replication in failover, but I couldn't find any documentation describing replication behavior for the FWSM. Can anyone
clearly describe FWSM's behavior for this?

What FWSM version are you running?

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 - Active Directory Replication over DynDNS

    Hello,
I have one server that Windows Server 2008 R2 - Active Directory / DNS
Now some users shifted to new office with the server
Some users still in the original place that now don't have ADDS/DNS
i want to install one replication server in the original place to retrieve AD/DNS form new office via DynDNS
    is that possible of not?
    Best regards,

Badr, I don't think you want AD replication occurring over the internet - even if that was possible the server would need access to all the SRV records, a records, And all the ports required for communication - See here for an exhaustive list
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/584.active-directory-replication-over-firewalls.aspx - I don't think I have to tell you how bad opening all these ports to the internet would be.
You may want to look at Setting up a vpn or DirectAccess from the original site to the new site. This will give you more security and generally won't cost to much.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/network/dd420463.aspx
Another thing that may work for you would be if you setup remote desktop services in the new location and had the original location remote into via a gateway server -
http://blogs.technet.com/b/windowsserver/archive/2012/05/09/windows-server-2012-remote-desktop-services-rds.aspx as a starting point. With RDS your users would be able to access the new location from anywhere, although there would be upfront costs associated,
licensing and server being part of them - I don't recommend turning your domain controller into an RDS server. These are just some ideas to help you with your issue

  • How can we achive active/active cluster setup with Oracle

    Hi Experts,
How can we achieve active/active database setup with oracle WITHOUT USING RAC.. As far as I know it's impossible (unless I'm wrong)..
We are using Oracle 11.2.0.1 64bit on Windows 2008 server. We deployed Oracle FailSafe but that's more of an active/passive solution based on a windows cluster.
The other solution we were thinking about is to use DataGuard and replication.. two servers.. the oracle instance running on one server generating logs, and the other server receive the logs and apply them to the physical standby db.. Still, this is not a real active/active setup.
So, is it possible to run 2 servers in an active/active cluster and have the oracle database in an active/active setup or have the instance running on multiple nodes (at the same time)?
    Thanks

Let me give you a brief explanation of what the situation is and you can be the judge..
My client have four databases with the smallest one being 20GB and the biggest around the 35gb (SGA 750mb to 1.4gb (Tiny by DB standards) and probably on a normal day, you can run all four of them on a decent desktop).. The DBs are used to keep track of people information. Through out the year, the databases are almost sitting idle, and by idle I mean, the odd update here and there, the odd report..etc. No hard real processing of any sort. Two days of the year (end of year) we have all the operators consolidating records and what's not and they will be pounding away entering data and updating the tables - with hourly reports that goes to 3rd parties. The client expects a 99.99 up time and availability during those 2 days.
Now, tell me, How can I justify using RAC and spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in licensing and what ever extra costs introduced by the complexity of the environment for the above scenario knowing that I don't have any real use for RAC for 363 days of the year; and we MIGHT need it for 2 days of the year? This is the dilemma we're facing.
    Thanks

  • Clustering of Oracle AS 10.1.3.0 nodes in active-active topology

    Hi,
The following requirements for clustering in our environment exist:
    * Active-active topology
    * External hardware load-balancer
    * Fail-over
    * Application session-state replication
We use multiple Oracle AS 10.1.3.0 nodes. Applications are deployed on 2 or more OC4J instances on those nodes.
I've read the Oracle docs on clustering and I have some questions regarding the clustering configuration to use:
    1. When an external hardware load-balancer is used, is configuring an Oracle AS cluster needed then? The docs talk about clusters, but in some cases I'm not sure whether an Oracle AS cluster or a hardware cluster is meant.
    2. It seems not entirely clear what type of application clustering to use in combination with an Oracle AS cluster: either multicast or peer-to-peer? If I'm correct the Oracle docs suggest to use dynamic peer-to-peer application clustering if an Oracle AS cluster is used and multicast for standalone OC4J. Is that correct?
    Thanks,
    Ronald

    1. Well, the idea is to have all clients route their HTTP requests to the physical load-balancer. The load-balancer will route/forward the requests to one of the Oracle AS nodes based on the load on those machines. If application state is synchronized between the application(s) on the OC4J instances, it would not be necessary to configure an Oracle AS cluster? Or are there advantages for having such a cluster? One of the pros I can think of would be that groups are automatically created so deployment/management of the application(s) becomes easier. Are there any other? Or is this configuration w/o Oracle AS cluster not a good idea?
    2. Clear.
    3. JMS, thanks for the tip.
    4. Yes we use Oracle RAC. Does that impose constraints on the Oracle AS clustering and/or application clustering?

  • Oracle VM 3.1 active active configuration

    Hi
I am implementing Oracle VM 3.1 (4 physical servers) in two data centers, we would like to make it active/active, two servers running in a site and other two servers in another site, we would like a single server pool for the 4 servers so VM Guests can be started in both sites.
I can see a problem with the storage (which ideally should be active/active), I think the only options I have is using storage based mirroring to mirror the LUN used by the Guests from one site to another or use a clustered NFS arrays. All 4 servers accessing the one storage arrays located in a site.
    Any other options?
Thanks a lot for the help

May I ask what you're trying to accomplish?
What connectivity do you have between the two datacenters?
I don't know what type of replication or etc you're trying to use to mirror the data across data centers/ storage devices....but I don't know if it would work with the repos or not. I imagine it would depend on what tyoe of lag in data you'll have at the peak of your usage. I assume you want to do this for HA?

  • FWSM move from Active/Standby to Active/active

    Hi there,
we have some FWSM installed in 6500 with many contexts in them.  They are at the moment configured as Active/Standby and in production.  But we have noticed that whenever a backup is run which goes through some of the contexts, the FWSM start counting errors which was already determined to be an oversubscription issue.  So, while we wait for the new ASA 5585X to arrive and finally replace them, we want to mitigate the issue by configuring the FWSM as Active/Active and move the contexts for backup traffic to the other box (keeping the production contexts in the other one).
My question is, can this be done without impacting the production traffic?  Or as soon as we enable the active/active by the configuration of the groups and assignments of the contexts, the traffic will be impacted and we will produce an outage to the network?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Regards,
    Paula

    So no answers?
Just one to update why had problem here: we need to to pull changes from Physical StandBy, because of performance reasons we cannot afford to reload every table with full refresh, we only want to get changes. At first I thought that it will be easy just create materialized view log and do basic replication, but in Physical StandBy we cant do it

  • Dataguard Active/Active Vs Golden gate in 11i environment

is there any difference between setting up 11gR2 RAC + Dataguard in Active/Active mode Vs 11gR2 + DG + Golden Gate in 11i environment? Besides, are there any pros and cons in setting up one over another?
    environment: RH5.x, 11gR2, 2-node RAC, 11.5.10.2

Data Guard with Physical Standby & Real-Time Query (Active Data Guard) is for Disaster Protection in the first place. Additionally, you can use the Standby for Reporting (Read-Only)
Golden Gate or Streams is for Replication in the first place. You could do much more than just read-only reports. You don't need to replicate everything. You could do Multimaster-Replication. Additionally, you get some protection against damage of the source database(s).
The question is: Do you want Disaster Protection or Replication as the most important Business Requirement.
    Kind regards

  • Triggers in active-active configurations

    Hi,
I am new to Goldengate and are looking for best practices regarding database triggers when replicating with Goldengate in an active-active configuration.
Will best practices be to not replicate tables which are filled by triggers or is it some magic parameters?
Scenario: To databases, both with active users. Tab1 in both databases has a trigger updating tab2. Will best practices be to just replicate tab1 with Goldengate?
    Thank You for Your help!

    HI,
I think this will help you....
    SUPPRESSTRIGGERS |
    NOSUPPRESSTRIGGERS
Valid for Replicat for Oracle. Prevents triggers from firing on target objects that are configured for replication with Oracle GoldenGate. You can use this parameter for Oracle 10.2.0.5 and later patches, and for Oracle 11.2.0.2 and later, instead of manually disabling the triggers. To use this option, the Replicat user must be an Oracle Streams administrator, which can be granted by invoking dbms_goldengate_auth.grant_admin_privilege.

  • SAP cluster active/active Windows and cluster active/pasive Database

    Dear Experts,
I need to know if SAP is restricted to work in an active / active  cluster Windows R2 and database cluster with passive / active. Maybe Oracle database.
Maybe they can give me some information on how to do it or tell me if this combination is NOT possible. Maybe Oracle as database.
Please any information you can give me I thank.

    Hi Kumar,
Please gothru the Installation guides under http://service.sap/com/instguides for required SAP DVD's and PAM for compatible DB's.
In Node A --> You start with ASCS + SCS installation as below
1.) Central Services Instance for ABAP (ASCS) -- Consists of Msg. service & Enqueue Service (Shared Disk)
2.) Central Services Instance (SCS) -- Consists of Msg. service & Enqueue Service (Should be installed after installation of 1.) (Same Shared Disk)
3.) First Microsoft Cluster Service (MSCS) -- This step creates the SAP cluster group on the first MSCS node and adds the ASCS and SCS instance(s) to the SAP cluster group
    4.) Database Instance
    Node B
5.) Additional Microsoft Cluster Service (MSCS)
6.) Enqueue Replication Server BOTH NODES, First in NODE A followed by NODE B
7.) Central Instance NODE A-- If you install the central instance on one of the NODE A, make sure that you use a local drive, not a shared drive.
8.) Dialog Instance NODE B-- Same procedure as in NODE A.
When NODE A fails, the ASCS and SCS failsover to NODE B and Dialog instance on NODE B act as CI.
