ActiveSync Client Calendar

Hi,
I am writing an activesync client calendar for a university project. I need help in decoding the timezone information.
An example of encoded timezone is given below
<A:Timezone>AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAoAAAAFAAIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMAAAAFAAEAAAAAAAAAxP///w==<A:Timezone>
Thanks,

  • Forcing mobile ActiveSync clients to re-initiate Autodiscover process

Is there a way on the Exchange server to force all connected mobile ActiveSync clients to reinitiate the autodiscovery process?
We would like to change the "External URL" in the Exchange Client Access Server configuration for ActiveSync and have that pushed out to all the existing mobile clients so that they receive mail using the new URL.
We understand that if new phones are added, they will get the new URL via autodiscover, but is there a way for all the existing phones to get updated without removing and re-adding the account.
Thanks a lot for your help.

No. As long as the existing URL they are using is valid, they will continue to use it unless they create a new profile.

  • Activesync client Certificate authentication with third party CA

Hi, I have to configure ActiveSync certificate based authentication, and use a third party CA.
What informations and fields must I configure on the cert template, to use it for activesync  ?
For now I've a template with the CN (FirstName LastName) for the Subject Name  and a Subject Alternative name with UserPrincipalName (user@domain). Is it enough ?
Do I must publish the user's certificate  in AD ?
    Thanks

Just one additional thing to consider, as I have seen it go wrong in the past.
Make sure that whatever certificate solution you decide upon will be suitable for your internal clients (Outlook) as well as autodiscover, external name, etc.
I have seen where people put in mail.domain.com in the SAN field, and everything works great for external clients. However, internal clients who connect to
mbx01.domain.com (the internal server name) get errors, as this server name is not on the certificate.
To make this work, you generally have two options:
Put the internal name of the server on the certificate as well - requires a certificate that allows multiple names (may be referred to as a
UC certificate or 'SAN Options' or something like that, depending on vendor)
Setup split-DNS, so your internal clients also use mail.domain.com
    internally
I realize that this doesn't answer your original question, but I have seen this being done wrong many times, and this will hopefully save some headache.

  • Cannot sync with email client calendar, only iCloud

I have my iPhone and my email (shawmail) calendar synced up no problem through an account that is under microsoft exchange. I have that same email address tied to an iCloud account that allows any calendar events added on my phone to be reflected in my iCal application on my computer (apart from those saved under the calendar associated with the exchange account, web email client).
The problem is the lack of communication between my Web email calendar and my iCal application on my computer. I can accept event requests on my phone that will show up on the web email calendar but they will not show up on my iCal on my iMac.
I have gone into iCal, enabled calendar syncing on the email under the exchange format and once that's done I have a second account that shows up in the accounts pane of iCal. It however will not connect to the "exchange" account.
I believe the problem lies in the server settings tab of the account, I've entered in the correct information into the Account Information tab but I'm unsure what is required in the internal server, server path, port, use SSL, external server, server path, port, use SSL.
I've contacted my email provider and they have no one on their technical team that can provide anything helpful to those required fields. Only that their server is: wm.shaw.ca  which I already knew from the information in my phone to setup email.
Any suggestions? Thank you for your time,
    Cheers.

    m8,
It do happened sometime, don't know the reason. When I upgrade or change my phone to a new one, I always do one way synch(not both ways, & outlook dominant) , from outlook to phone & it never fails. Since it's a new phone not much data inside, just reset your phone to factory default try this method.
    Good luck!

  • Exchange ActiveSync moves calendar items back by 1 hour

I just noticed this problem this week, after the Daylight-Savings Time change this weekend. But, I cannot confirm if it was also happening before then or not.
When a user is sent a meeting invite and they accept the invite on their iPhone, the time is initially correct. Then the phone syncs with the Exchange server and a few seconds later the meeting gets moved back an hour.
So, if I send an invite for a 3PM meeting, it will initially get put at 3PM and then a few seconds later it will get moved to 4PM.
When accepting the meeting in Outlook on the desktop it works fine, and even shows up at the correct time on the iPhone.
I have tried with Time Zone Support both on and off and in different time zones. No luck.
Please, does anyone have any ideas?

Same thing also happens with our corporate busines where about 6 of our senior managers / CEOs are affected with their calander apointments changing if they accept them from their IPhone.
I have contacted Apple Support and discussed this with one of their 2nd level engineers. I raised his attention to this forum thread to detail that others from within NZ are also experiencing this common fault.
I also advised him that since NZ passed the law to change the daylight savings date, that other competitor companies have released patches to rectify this fault, that he would raised this with his team for review.
So I'm hoping that a patch or update is included to verify this fault. Lets see what happens...

  • ActiveSync mail/contacts/calendars removed after Active Directory account is locked out?

    Hey guys,
Wondering if anybody has seen an issue like this.  This is a new Exchange 2010 deployment (8+ CAS servers) and the devices are all iPhones/iPads running the latest version of iOS (7.1.2).  The CAS servers are behind a load-balancer.
Basically when a users' Active Directory account is Locked in AD (either manually or by entering the wrong password) their ActiveSync Contacts, Calendars and all Mail folders (except the Inbox strangely!) will be removed from the iOS device within a few hours.  So an account might get locked out at say 6pm, if left locked out by the next morning the ActiveSync account will still be setup on the device as normal, but everything is gone except the mail in the Inbox.  If a user has an iPad and iPhone both will be blanked.
The behaviour is similar to what is documented here - iOS: How to mitigate a full sync or reload of Exchange account data - however the Exchange servers are not issuing HTTP500 errors as we have captured logging during the window where the device blanks itself.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Hello,
which event ids are shown in the event viewer from the DCs? Or maybe locally also some errors are locked that give some more details.
If this happens it sounds personally for me that Java is the problem. Have you already opened a call at

  • Lion iCal client can't read SLS wiki calendar?

Anyone else running Snow Leopard Server (10.6.8) having issues with the new Lion iCal client (v5.0) not seeing a wiki/group calendar? I've got the server path on the Lion client on a new MacBook Air exactly the same as that of the Snow Leopard client (v4.0.4) on my Mac Pro: /principals/__uids__/wiki-groupname
The Mac Pro is working fine with this setup, only difference is the client OS/client iCal version.
iCal server logs don't even show a hit from the Lion client when I refresh the client calendar, while it does show a hit from the Snow Leopard client when I refresh it.

    While the behavior you describe
(...every so often the Lion iCal client will forget the group wiki path and it seems to revert to the default ("/principals/__uids__/many hex characters"). I then have to go back in and restore the group wiki path...)
is not ideal, I can't even get it to remember it once. Restart iCal server, restart iCal client, restart MacBook Pro with client...it keeps reverting back to the hex address.
    You mention something about
...this was a preferences problem with Lion iCal in the client...
    and
...I cleaned all the individual calendar files out of the Library folder...
Can you be more specific? I tried digging through the library files, looking for ones associated with the URL of the SLS Wiki Calendar, but that did not seem to help.
    Thanks!

  • Outlook multi-day (not 'all day') meeting requests showing up as 1 day off on iphone attached Activesync Exchange 2010 accounts

    Exchange 2010 SP2 Server
iPhone iOS 5.01 (4/4s) using ActiveSync
    Outlook 2007 clients
When multi-day (not 'all day') meeting requests or appointments are being sent to email accounts which have an iPhone attached to the Exchange account via ActiveSync, the iPhone accepts the meeting request but then moves the event one day later than what it was originally scheduled and posts it to Outlook - also 1 day later than it is supposed to be.
For example:  A meeting request comes into my that is schedule for 9AM-4PM M-W but when I accept it on my iphone it gets posted to my calendar as an ALL DAY event but T-Thu
We upgraded to Exchange SP2 because some of the threads were alluding that SP2 would fix it - it didn't.  I know the fix is to rip out the event to separate calendar events but this will not work for reqeusts coming from outside.  And this is too tedious.  If anything, it is a serious bug.
    Anybody seen this before?
    Thanks,
    Monty.

I am experiencing a similar problem with a client of mine who is using Microsoft's Cloud-based Exchange server, Office 365.  I suspect the Office 365 server is an Exchange 2010 server, similar to your environment.  Check out my tests below which I think define when the day shifting happens.
I see that you applied SP2 to your Exchange 2010 environment, but have you also applied Update Rollup 1?  See this article:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2563324.  It would be interesting to know whether that rollup resolves your problem.
I have done some pretty extensive testing and have posted in the Office 365 Support Forum (http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/146/p/53396/192332.aspx#192332)  Here is a summary of my testing.
I am having the exact same problem described by Jim Edmonds and jkwmail (http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/176/p/19921/93304.aspx#93304) with one of my clients who is not very happy about this or our inability to resolve the problem.  Here is what I am experiencing:
When an appointment in Office 365 spans multiple days, the appointment gets converted to an All Day Event and moved forward one day on an iPhone ActiveSync client.
I have completed the following troubleshooting:
1 - Using my GMail Account and my work email account on MS Exchange 2007 SP 2 Server I created separate single day appointments in the morning from each account spanning two hours and invited my client who is using MS Outlook 2010 and Office 365.
Result:  The appointments show the correct date and time on my Outlook, MS Exchange 2007 SP 2 OWA, and iPhone as well as my client's Outlook, Office 365 webmail, and iPhone.
2 - Using my GMail Account and my work email account on MS Exchange 2007 SP 2 Server I created separate single day appointments in the afternoon from each account spanning two hours and invited my client who is using MS Outlook 2010 and Office 365.
Result:  The appointments show the correct date and time on my Outlook, MS Exchange 2007 SP 2 OWA, and iPhone as well as my client's Outlook, Office 365 webmail, and iPhone.
3 - Using my GMail Account and my work email account on MS Exchange 2007 SP 2 Server I created separate multi-day appointments from Friday at 5 PM to Monday at 8 AM from each account and invited my client who is using MS Outlook 2010 and Office 365.
Result:  The appointments show the correct date and time on my Outlook, MS Exchange 2007 SP 2 OWA, and iPhone as well as my client's Outlook and Office 365 webmail.  However, on my client's iPhone, the time on the appointments had changed to an all day event and the start date was shifted one day forward, Saturday, and the end date was Monday unless the appointment end time was after the appointment start time in which case it created an All Day Event on Tuesday as well.  For Example:  If the appointment was from 8 AM Friday Morning to 8 AM Monday Morning, the iPhone would show an All Day Event on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.  If the appointment was from 8 AM Friday Morning to 8:30 AM Monday Morning, the iPhone would show an All Day Event on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.  If the appointment was from 8 AM Friday Morning to 7:30 AM Monday Morning, the iPhone would show an All Day Event on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.  This was also true for appointments starting on Friday at 5 PM and ending on Monday at 5 PM, starting on Friday at 5 PM and ending on Monday at 5:30 PM, and starting on Friday at 5 PM and ending on Monday at 4:30 PM as in the above AM examples.
*** Again I would like to note that on my iPhone which is connected to my company's MS Exchange 2007 SP 2 server, the multi-day appointment shows up correctly with correct start and end times and is not converted to an All Day Event. ***
It would seem this is a problem with ActiveSync on Office 365 and iOS devices.  What is particularly frustrating is that this exact problem is identified in KB 2563324 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2563324) Issue 1.6 - "An appointment is longer than 24 hours is changed to a multi-day All Day Event" which states:  "To resolve this issue, install Update Rollup 1 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 2 (SP2)."  Since this is a cloud based service, we do not have the ability to either see what the current version of the Exchange service we are connected to is or update the service with this patch level.
4 - I performed the above three tests with my client creating the events in MS Outlook 2010 and inviting my work account on the MS Exchange 2007 SP 2 Server and got the exact same results.
5 - My client's iPhone is running iOS 4.3 and my iPhone is running iOS 5.1.0.  In order to test this without going through the update process on my client's iPhone, I set up his Office 365 account on my iPhone and performed the tests in numbers 1-4 from above, viewing the results on my iPhone, and got the exact same results.
6 - Today, I tried this with a different Office 365 account, performed the multi-day test in number 3 from above and got the exact same results.
7 - Today I also upgraded my iPhone to iOS 5.1.1, performed the multi-day test in number 3 from above and got the exact same results.
8 - I have confirmed that all time zones are set correctly.  I have checked the iPhone, OWA, Office 365 Webmail, etc.
I believe the problem in my case is with the Office 365 environment and not the iOS device.  However, trying to get support from these large companies seems to be very difficult?
Does anyone from Apple know if this is an iOS bug or a problem with Exchange 2010/Office 365?
    Thanks...
    Jp

  • ActiveSync support!

I am relatively new as a Blackberry (BB) user, and must say that I am a convert.  I can easily say that my productivity has increased tremendously, and others in my company have noticed as well.  That being said, the only show stopper as far as others in my company are concerned is the lack of ActiveSync support.  From the looks of the forum threads, it appears that this is a hot topic filled with all sorts of work-arounds and kludges.
I work for a small company that has an exchange server but has no desire (nor ability) to add BES support (even the free version).  We don't have an IT department, and rely upon an outside consultant to manage the Exchange for us whenever something goes wrong, which is very seldom.  I can sync my inbox via OWA, but not my sent mail, so when I’m away from the office I can’t refer to my sent mail at all.  If someone adds an appointment to my calendar at work, I don’t know about it until I get back to the office and sync my BB to the Desktop Manager running on my PC with a cable.
So what is a user like me supposed to do?  If you look at the forums on various BB sites such as Crackberry.com, there are a myriad of suggestions including getting third party software such as AstraSync and BBerrySync which cost approximately $50/year (because they use a server to provide the syncing) – and many have reported issues, etc. with these products.  Or I can subscribe to an external BES provider and pay a monthly fee to them and pay AT&T another $15/month extra for BES service – no thanks.  Or I can download several Google products and sync away to my heart’s content – but then you have Outlook syncing to Gmail and then the BB syncing to Gmail which is once again putting a third party (albeit a free third party) in the middle, but it sure seems like a lot of extra steps.  Plus, that only addresses the contacts and calendar and not the sent mail issue or tasks.
Why go through all of this when ActiveSync can solve the problem?  Before I became a BB convert, I had a WinMo device and really didn’t think that BB wouldn’t have this capability since other manufacturers had ActiveSync and BB had OWA access to mail via BIS.  Not all of us can work for larger companies that have deployed BES.  Some have made the comment that support of ActiveSync would be against BB’s philosophy and potentially reduce BES sales.  I really don’t understand that, since BB is now moving to a more consumer oriented focus in order to expand their base, there is a significant chunk of the marketplace that would benefit from having ActiveSync capabilities.  I would say that those companies that have bought into the BES philosophy (remote wipe, security, provisioning, control, etc.) would still use BES.  But those companies, such as the one I work for, that do not have the need for the same level of security would benefit from having their employees have more access to their Outlook Exchange data (mail, calendar, & contacts) without having to be burdened with the cost and support of BES.  Just using my company as an example, I am the only person in the company that has this issue since all of the other users are WinMo, Nokia, or iPhone users. [Side note here – the arch enemy iPhone can do this but not cut & paste, but really, isn’t ActiveSync more important.]  Like it or not, there are more users of Exchange without BES than with BES, and RIM would not be making a philosophical concessions by having an ActiveSync client available to those users that wanted it, or are willing to pay for the application.
Well, that’s my two cents worth….. Thanks for listening ……  And I am open to any and all comments and suggestions.

    Hi
Well I'm currently testing the new (beta) version of NotifySync which now does include HTML ;-)
I use NotifySync for my main company mailbox and BIS messages for my other (personal) accounts. The beauty of NotifySync is the true folder mirroring that you get against your company ActiveSync server. I dont mind my personal accounts in another program icon. I can keep them separate.
Also I assign the left hand convenience button (normally used for Voice Command) to NotifySync and move the NotifySync icon to the top left hand corner which means it will always appear in the short desktop mode.
You are right about year 1 pricing but year 2 is half of what you stated. Year 2 plus pricing is to cover support and maintenance releases.
    Hope this helps
    Best Wishes

  • ActiveSync issue

    Hi,
I'm having an issue with activesync on the z10. We dont use Microsoft Exchange for Activesync, instead we use a mail server called "IMail Server", which also supports activesync. All of the iphone users are able to connect with no issues at all, and those with older blackberries running the activesync client "notifysync" are fine too.
When I try connecting it seems to go through and prompts me what i would like to sync, so I choose everything, but it only seems to sync the contacts. The e-mail and calendar never sync up. after about 20 or so minutes, I'll get a message in the blackberry hub regarding my work activsync account. The message says, "not connected - account invalid" and "your account is no longer synchronized with your device. check that your account settings are correct. if they are correct, contact your email service provider. "
can you please let me know how to fix this issue, if it all possible. I just dont understand why IPhones and the older blackberries will work, but not the new z10.  I can't seem to find a tech support number for blackberry (RIM), which is unfortunate....
    Thanks.
    -Reeko

Ah...OK...already the Advanced screens...OK...again, it may be that you've found an incompatible email server configuration for one reason or another. It'll take real deep diagnosis and perhaps packet tracing to figure out why...your various admins may be able to do that on their end to see what they are receiving from the Z10 that they don't like.
    reeko wrote:
Oh I didnt know that, I find it strange that they wouldn't talk to end users.
It's the way it's always been. They use a distributed support model, one that puts the carriers and authorized resellers (and, in some regions, service centers) in charge of first level support to their specific user base (with escalation channels up to BlackBerry available if needed). On one level, it makes sense...put support closest to the customer as possible (no end users are customers of BlackBerry -- contractually, they are customers of the carriers). There are plenty of threads on this site debating the merits (and, in some opinions, de-merits!) of the support model...but that's all just academic IMHO. Everyone is bound (contractually) to the support model as it exists.
    reeko wrote:
Who do you think would be my formal support channel to go through?
Either the place you obtained your Z10 from or perhaps your carrier (Telus, according to your profile here). Maybe even both. Whoever is willing to a) listen to your case and b) escalate it up to BlackBerry so that it can receive formal attention.
    reeko wrote:
Are there any other tips you can offer me? I'm not sure what else to try.
Nothing beyond what I've already provided...packet tracing by your network guru's might be the best option. Also be sure to have created a brand new account on the email side and try with that...just to be sure it's not some holdover from perhaps a more legacy email account. (Honestly, I'm just guessing...)
    Good luck!

  • Pocket PC Calendar Sync v.9.04.22

I have downloaded and installed both the latest ActiveSync and Calendar Sync and cannot get the Calendar Sync portion working with my PPC (Ipaq 5555). It worked before upgrading to 9.04.22. The installs look like they go without a hitch, but when I sync the settings for calendar still point to the Outlook settings instead of bringing up the Oracle Calendar settings like it used to. Also, after installing Calendar Synch I lose the option of deleting partnerships in ActiveSync. I am thinking that I might be able to manually add a registry key in the Windows CE section to get it working, but don't know what to add/remove. I am installing as an admin on the system (XPsp2), BTW.
    Thanks for any advice.
    Tim

You should try SyncML; works with my Dell AXIM X 50.
    SyncML requires:
    1. A SyncML client. For Palm / Pocket PC, you can use the Synthesis SyncML client from http://www.synthesis.ch. Som
e mobile phones come with native SyncML clients.
    2. Data to be synced. In that case, this is Contacts, Tasks, Meetings from the Calendar Server.
    3. An HTTP connection: this can be via the craddle, via bluetooth, via GPRS, ...
SyncML is not a Wireless protocol. It's a Sync protocol over IP.

  • IPhones lost contacts and e-mail when activesync server was down

We have about 20 iPhone 3GS syncing to our Exchange 2003 Server running on Windows Small Business Server 2003.
    All iPhones have software 3.1
All iPhones were setup to use ActiveSync using iPhone Configuration Utility
Our Exchange server went down on a maintenance restart. When it was restarted we had some unknown failure to the ActiveSync functionality between IIS and Exchange. iPhones trying to sync got an HTTP 500 Error response, which I could see from the console log of the iPhone. The error message was:
Thu Oct 15 14:43:09 unknown dataaccessd[22] <Warning>: EAS|connection died with error Error Domain=ASHTTPConnectionErrorDomain Code=500 "Operation could not be completed. (ASHTTPConnectionErrorDomain error 500.)" 0x174480
Thu Oct 15 14:43:09 unknown dataaccessd[22] <Warning>: EAS|ASFolderSyncTask failed: Error Domain=ASHTTPConnectionErrorDomain Code=500 "Operation could not be completed. (ASHTTPConnectionErrorDomain error 500.)"
We rebuilt the Internet settings on the small business server and got the ActiveSync functionality working again. But this was after 24 hours.
All iPhones lost all e-mail during the 24 hours of ActiveSync downtime.
Approximately 60% of the iPhones lost all contacts during the downtime.
All iPhones kept their calendars during the downtime.
Other ActiveSync clients running Windows Mobile 6.1 or Symbian on Nokia N82 did not delete their contacts or e-mails during the downtime.
Is there any setting that governs this, may I say unexpected, behaviour? Makes it impossible to depend on iPhone e-mail - who knows when the Exchange Server will go down...
Does anyone know why 40% of the iPhones kept their contacts while the other 60% deleted them? They have all been purchased together and set up in the exact same manner.
I have tried to contact Apple support, but the automated voice just said that the network operator handles iPhone problems. The operator did not have a clue about Exchange servers and iPhones...
    Thank you in advance!
    Tobias

Usually once items are removed from the server, they are gone for good. Sorry to hear about the loss of contacts. We would like to check though to see if they can be retrieved. So we can get more information from you, I have copied your post to our private support board. Please refer all correspondences to there from here on out. • How to configure ASA to allow activesync connections ?

To allow Activesync connections (between smartphones and an internal Exchange server) thru an ASA, I think about 3 or 4 potential solutions :
    1) do a NAT on the Exchange server and allow  activesync TCP connections from any IP to the Exchange server : I tested that and this works, but it is not the most secure solution we can imagine;
    2) use a Clienless VPN SSL  ASA configuration : I tried it, but got problems certaintly related to the fact that the Activesync client, installed on my Android/Samsung smartphone, does not seem to be able vto pass properly thru the ASA Portal to reach the Exchange server;
    3) use an Anyconnect VPN ASA configuration : I tried it , but did not manage to install or use any of the Samsung Anyconnect client available on Android Market; by the way, I saw, in the Anyconnect VPN Client Admin Guide 2.4, that an ActiveSync MSI is available from CISCO (
    anyconnect-wince-ARMv4I-activesync-AnyConnectRelease_Number-k9.msi), but I don't see any details about how it is supposed to be used except that it is for Windows environment only, so, not for an Android phone, but I have Windows Mobile smartphones to integrate too, so, maybe it can help me in this case ;
    4) if Clientless nor Anyconnect solutions can't work, it might be better to use the ASA Cut-Through proxy function to get a more secure solution than the first one listed above; but I was not successful either with this cut-through proxy function
Any ideas or examples about how to allow activesync connections thru ASA would be welcomed
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
Generally ASA with CSC will support HTTP,FTP,SMTP,POP3 Scaning and Filtering.
From version ASA IOS 8.4.2 and CSC  6.6.1125.0, it will support HTTPS filtering also.
But here one limitation is that Https filtering will not support earlier versions of internet explorer 9, i.e if you want HTTPS filtering you must use Internet explorer 9 or after versions( As you know that Windows XP machines won't support internet explorer 9). But with firefox HTTPS filtering will support from versions 4.
For your reference use below 8.4.2 release guide
