ActiveX Calls in LabVIEW Generate Error -2146960888 With Microsoft Excel

This happend under WinXP or Win2000 and Labview 6.1 or Labview 7.
I think it is related with the update of the operating system.

I recommend running your VI in highlight execution mode and seeing what property node/method/reference issues the error. Whatever it is, replace the object with a new one--not a copy but from scratch.
BTW the error code is from Excel.

Which version of LabVIEW are you using? This example was developed and verified for Visual c++ 6.0 and LabVIEW 7.1. If you are using a different version of LabVIEW, it is likely that the ActiveX methods have changed. Below are the ActiveX methods for LabVIEW 2012:

Also, what exactly is it that you are trying to do? In most cases, your application would probably be best served if it interfaced with your LabVIEW VI as a DLL.

Error in "Export to Microsoft Excel" from Portal

Hi,
I have a BW report on Portal 7.0 with columns with time in format like hh:mm:ss.
When I exported it to Excel and open this file I get inside Excel window an information window "Problems while loading" and explanation "Value of cell". After I send OK sheet of data is opening. The hours fraction of time in all cells is changed to hh+1.
In log of this action ...\Temporary Internrt Files\Content.MSO\EB0B32EE.log are lines like:
HTML Error of Cell Value:06:10:00
where 06 ought to be 05.

I had the same problems (html inside excel) it was caused by wrong excel / bex versions because they were not compatible.
In my mind your error is caused by the same problem.

Labview generated error & logs a file. No log file found

I get this error on the director. I check "LabVIEW_Failure_Log.txt" & the data is old (10-31-2004)& only 1 occurrance. THeis error happens about 5 times a day.

The file that you are referring to was created in older versions of LabVIEW. If the version of LabVIEW that you are using is 7 or later, then the error log file will be present at
"C:\Documents and Settings\[your username]\My Documents\LabVIEW Data\lvfailurelog"
You can search for the error information in this file on our website, but if you can't find any information please let me know and I will investigate the error.

My Labview Report generator is not working with 2013 excel version

Hi All,
My report generator tool kit which was developpend using labview 2011 was workign with excel 2010...after that i installed 2013 excel and the code is not working..
Do i need to enable some setting to work with excel 2013.
Basically this generator tool will copy the charts from excel and paste in power point...Please let me know.

Ah, I understand now - I had assumed you were using the NI Toolkit.
If you're not using the report generation toolkit, did you write your own VIs for communicating with Office or are you using a different toolkit? If you're using ActiveX to communicate with Office it may be that the ActiveX API has changed for Office 2013 - you will probably need to modify your program for the new calls.
Since it wasn't as obvious as I thought with the report generation toolkit, it would help if you posted some code to try and understand what might be happening. Are you getting any errors in your application when you try to use Office 2013?

Generate error list with object detail

Dear All,
I have two way (multimaster ) Replication but due to some reason it generated many errors during replicate data so to resolve errors, I want to generate error list (Report) with object details instead viewing them one by one. please guide

What do you mean with generate error list (Report) with object details ?
You can get all the errors from DEFERROR view.
There are columns DEFERRED_TRAN_ID and CALLNO.
You can join this columns with DEFCALL (DEFERRED_TRAN_ID and CALLNO).
Joining this two views will provide information about the objects and transaction type involved in the call.
DEFCALL.PACKAGENAME contains the reference to the table_name.
DEFCALL.PROCNAME contains information about the transaction type.
Example:

IPMUnknown.h generate error

I want to create Indesign using SDK.
I do not Know how use SDK to create indesign document.
I read solutions.pdf and start using visual studio 2008 (vc++) to create indesign application.
To create Application refernce(instance) i am try below code

Error message when saving an modified XL Reporter in Microsoft Excel

I have encountered an error message when I tried to save an modified XL report in Excel.
The error message is:
An error occurred while trying to save the report definition! Object variable or with Block variable not set.
The user now is using 200B PL 42 with Microsoft Excel 2003.

Labview.exe error is generating

It is giving me labview.exe has generated error message, when I am trying to generate, data log file with time stamp, to find last run of my program. I have attached the vi here.

I'm assuming that the VI you posted is running as a subVI in your main and that you are getting the path somewhere else. If that's the case, then you should know that the path to a folder is different when you build a executable. For example, if you use something like Current VI's Path, in the development environment, it might be something like c:\folder\example.vi. In an executable, the path would be c:\folder\application.exe\example.vi. You need to do an extra strip path in an executable. You can use the Application property called Application.Type to determine whether or not you are working with an exe or development system to decide whether or not to do an extra strip path. There have been numerous postings on this exact same topic and if you need example code, you can search the forum.

Opening Excel2000 Labview.exe generated errors

I am trying to generate an Excel speadsheet to report test results with LabVIEW 6 and Excel 2000 on a Windows 2000 machine. The LV 6 Excel library distributed by NI has an "excel open.vi" which causes LabVIEW to crash. The error message is "Labview.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. Error log is being created." Is this because of WIN2K or Excel 2K? What do I need to do to use Excel?

I have the same configuration as you do in my computer with everything working fine, except for one thing, I have the update of LabVIEW 6.0.2, so I will recommend you three things in order to fix this issue:
1. Get the update for LabVIEW (www.ni.com >> Software Downloads >> Drivers and Updates >> Current Software Versions >> LabVIEW >> Select the update for your system, please follow all the instructions for installation. Reboot the computer after installation and try the example again.
2. Try the examples that I'm sending to you as attachment and also try the example for writing data to Excel which is located in the Help >> Examples... >> Communications >> ActiveX >> Write Table to Excel
3. Try reinstalling Excel or re-assigning the automation refn
um.

I get error 998 when calling a LabVIEW buildt DLL from MSVC++

I created a DLL in LV 6.0.2. This DLL contains 39 VIs and controls. 13 of the VIs are exported, the others are subVIs, which one of them is a dynamic VI.
I do not have all connectors used by defining the VI prototype in the build file for the application builder.
Using this DLL I get four effects:
From LV 6.0.2 FDS all works fine until I quit LV immediatly after the application VI stoppes. Then LV wants to save some of the VIs of the DLL.
If I do the same but close the VI before I quit LV one want save anything.
After Building an exe from the application VI and running the exe all works fine. The VI will only stop and if I close or quit noone wants to save something.
Then I built an application with M
SVC++ 6.0 using this DLL. There will be no errors or warnings during the build. If I start the application i get an error message dialog with the number 998 stating "system error loading LV Runtime engine. My application needs a Version 6.0 or compatible Runtime-engine". The path to teh Runtime-engine is given in the dialog and the lvrt.dll there has version 6.0.2.
Does someone run on such a problem?

I. LabVIEW wanting to save VIs
The DLL created is just a group of VIs, not actually compiled DLL code. When the subVIs are called, they might be cached from the disk copy, not the one in the DLL. LabVIEW then loads the separate copy of that subVI. It will then ask if you want to save changes because there were value changes when it was run (this makes since) or it is in LabVIEW 6.0 version and has not been mass compiled for LabVIEW 6.0.2. When it is compiled to an exe, the search path for the subVIs goes through the executable and not the LabVIEW development environment. Also, saving VIs is not an option in an executable so the save dialog does not pop up.
II. MSVC++ error
This is actually a Microsoft issue. It has something to do with static and
dynamic linking of the MFC DLL. Our R&D engineers have verified this with projects created with no LabVIEW code at all (that is why we believe it to be solely a Microsoft issue). There are three options at this time:
1. Link with the DLL form of MFC.
2. Do not link with the .lib from the LV DLL, instead use LoadLibrary and GetProcAddress to dynamically load the DLL and call the function.
3. Use the VC delayload feature to make the LV DLL not get loaded until the first call is made into it. See VC help on "delayload" for information on setting this up.

How to display error messages and output from Matlab (which Matlab would typically send to its command window but no longer does when called by Labview) into Labview or allow it to be dumped into Matlab Command Window?

Using Labview 6i and Matlab 6.1. I want to be able to see Matlab warnings and error messages either in the Matlab Command Window or in Labview itself. Currently Matlab is called by Labview (which is working). However I would like to debug and/or modify my Matlab script file to better understand how the two programs are interfacing. It is difficult since no data or messages can be displayed currently to the Matlab command window. I would like to change that if it is possible - Labview is suppressing that from happening. If not possible to send these
messages to Matlab Command Window can I make it at least possible to see Matlab's actual warnings and/or error messages in Labview?

I don't think you can debug your Matlab script from labVIEW. The following webpage talks about this:

My suggestion would be to write a script in Matlab and thoroughly test it before calling the script from a Matlab script node in LabVIEW.

Why does labview generate Dr. Watson error "C0000005 access violation"

I am running Labview 5.1.1 in Windows 2000 Professional on a machine with the following configuration

I have all of a sudden begun to experience labview crashes. The crash occurs systematically after tens of minutes; not just a few minutes, but not more than an hour or so. I am running a vi but not actively interacting with the machine (no other applications running, not even moving the mouse around). The problem happens even when running a vi that I have run successfully for extended periods of time (overnight) only 3 months ago. I have tried it with two different vis, one that I have recently made a lot of modifications to and another that has not been touched for months (since before the crashes began), and it happens with both vis. They do much different things (communicate with different GPIB or PCI boards, write to different kinds of files in different locations, etc.), so the problem seems to be vi-independent.
When the crash occurs, I see a dialog appear with the error
labview.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log has been created.
The Dr. Watson error log is generated and the error is
Application exception occurred:

I always get the same Dr. Watson error information -- i.e., it is very reproducible. I don't really know how to interpret the rest of the Dr. Watson log, but I include the report on the first thread, which is the one with the "FAULT" in it, at the end of this email.
Looking around on the web, it may be that a temporary virus infection could have created the problem. In the period since the machines was last successfully used, I have seen two files be infected by the W32.Welchia.B.Worm virus, the files were svchost.exe and WksPatch[1].exe. These files have been quarantined and no other infected files have been found since this error began to appear.
Any ideas? I've seen on the web that reinstalling Windows 2000 and/or upgrading to Labview 7.0 might solve the problem, but it would be nice to get some confirmation before taking the time/spending the money.

Problems calling LabVIEW VI through ActiveX inside another LabVIEW VI

Hi everybody,
basically I would like to create an ActiveX to be inserted in a LabVIEW VI which at its turn would call another LabVIEW VI.
I have choosen Visual Basic to create this ActiveX, being the main section code:

Dim vi As LabVIEW.VirtualInstrument
Dim names(0 To 1) As String, values(0 To 1) As Variant

So, when this ActiveX executes this code sequence it locks when creating the "LabVIEW. Application" object. I have tested this ActiveX from another client application (Internet Explorer) and it works perfectly, so the problem is located in the creation of ActiveX from LabVIEW. Do I need to do anything special in my code or simple it cannot be done what I want to do?

Exactly, but really the code of above it's only an example that I want to do. I'm trying something more sophisticated.
I want to create an ActiveX control that could work as stand alone executation with the ability of directly get some indicator values from its LabVIEW VI container and depending of those values, set the control values of others LABVIEW VIs. I really know that within LabVIEW itself I can get/set those indicators/controls, but with this method I think that the diagram block of the LabVIEW VI container can be more simple.
