Activity Allocation - Split of costs between variable and fixed costs

Hi,
The business is very keen on contribution analysis. Therefore all costs (cost elements) are broken up as fixed and variable.
I have a utility cost center (boiler) which incurs both fixed and variable costs. The cost center produces STEAM (created as an activity type). The steam consumption at the process order level cannot be entered. Therefore the production cost centers contain only MHR (machine hour) as their activity. Morover because the business wants to look at costs by production process each production cost center provides a different MHR activity type.
When I compute the activity rate at the boiler cost center for steam, the system correctly breaks up the rate as fixed  and variable. Now, when I try to do an activity allocation (KSCB) from boiler to the production cost centers, the entire costs are being treated as fixed.

Hi,
check SAPNET note 541858, this describes the system behaviour regarding fix/variable cost when KSCB is executed.
Best regards, Christian

  • Switch between variable and fixed axis

    In my application I want a checkbox labeled: use fixed axis.
    When it's checked the chart's axis both get a maximum. But when you
    uncheck the checkbox the axis should get variabel again (which
    means, get rid of the maximum property).
    This is what I tried, but it doesn't work. You start with
    variable axis, and when you check the box the axis indeed will get
    fixed. But unchecking the checkbox will not get the axis variable
    again.

    hax.maximum = 1200;

    vax = new LinearAxis;
    hax = new LinearAxis;

    Hi Delodic,
    To change back to a variable axis you need to set the maximum
    to NaN(not a number). this will tell the axis renderer to calculate
    the maximum itself. The update code is as follows:
    public function fixAx():void
    if (fix.selected) {
    vax.maximum = 1000;
    hax.maximum = 1200;
    } else {
    vax.maximum = NaN;
    hax.maximum = NaN;
    Hope this helps

    Hi Suraj
    Thanks for reply,
    Actually I have 5 activity types and all maintained equvelance number 1 for cost center/activitiy types.
    I am writing again my question.
    I have Chart of account having Variable and Fixed GLs separately. Some cost will be posted directly on production cost center via Variable and Fixed cost elements. Cost on common cost center will be allocated through Distribution and Assessment on Production cost centers. Client requirement is
    Prices for all 5 activities Variable & Fixed Separately. No proper solution was found and i planned cost activity dependent and result is OK in KSPI but allocated cost impact is zero. I have created a splitting structure and find that splitting is only possible for fixed price calculation.
    How i can calculate Variable and Fixed prices for all activities.
    Suraj hopefully you understand my problem. let me ur cell number i'll call u or e mail address i'll mail you screen shots.

  • Differance between Variable Portions & Fixed PercentagesCO-PA Assessment

    Hi,
    What is the differance between Variable POrtion & Fixed Percentage in Receiver weighting factors of COPA Assessment cyecle.
    For example - i have 1 sender and 3 receivers in the segment.
    In case of Fixed percentage -
    Sender A =1,00,000
    Receiver B = 50%
    Receiver B = 30%
    Receiver B = 20%
    For example - i have 1 sender and 3 receivers in the segment.
    In case of Variable portions -
    Sender A =1,00,000
    Receiver B = 50%
    Receiver B = 30%
    Receiver B = 20%
    Is that correct? Please correct me..
    Thanks
    Edited by: Dogdays on Jan 2, 2012 9:17 AM

    Hello
    Your first example for fixed percentage is correct. However for variable portion the percentage is automatically derived by the system based on the actual postings in the value fields/ key figure entered.
    Quote from SAP help
    "        Example
             Sender A distributes $100,000 to three receivers. The tracing
             factors are the actual costs.
         Receiver     I        Cost Element    I     Amount
         B             I       430000         I      $2000
         C             I       430000         I      $1000
         D             I       430000         I      $2000
             Total                          $5000
             The SAP system calculates the following values:
             Receiver B: 100,000/5000 X 2000 = $40,000
             Receiver C: 100,000/5000 X 1000 = $20,000
             Receiver D: 100,000/5000 X 2000 = $40,000
             The following receiver tracing factors are also possible in periodic
             reposting, assessment, and distribution:"
    The amounts referred to above i.e. $2000, $1000 and $2000 are actual costs posted to the receivers.

    I know this basic difference between the 2 types.. I would like to know if there is anything more to it?
    Because I've a CRLF file where SEGNUM is 0 for all the segments. I am of the assumption that SEGNUM should indicate the segment number in a file..

  • Variable Cost And Fix Cost Planning

    What are the settings and are they in Product Costing sub module to be able to clearly see the difference in movement of fixed and variable costs for the activity types in the cost of a product. (Product Cost with quatitiy structure CK11N)
    At present, in our settings, even though we have broken the rates as fixed and variable for the actitiy types in cost center planning, there is absolutely no impact in product cost for this. All costs move like variable costs.
    Best Regards.

    Check in Cost component structure for cost component for the attributes.
    For Activity cost type attribute you must select the control parameter as fixed and variable costs radio button.

    VARIABLE g_monthly_sal NUMBER

    OR does that mean whenever we want to specify data type for a bind varible we should use VARIABLE and
    when we do not want to specify type we use DEFINE?

    Both are SQL*plus commands. In a real programming environment you will not use such constructs (except a few rare scripting cases).
    The difference is how the construct is later used. DEFINE is more like a copy&paste string. Whereever the name of this substitution variable is found it will be pasted into the sql*plus session.
    VARIABLE creates a real variable. You can change the value and if follwos the usual principles of variables (including binding).
    Example can be found the docs:
    from the docs
    Where and How to Use Substitution Variables
    You can use substitution variables anywhere in SQL and SQL*Plus commands, except as the first word entered. When SQL*Plus encounters an undefined substitution variable in a command, SQL*Plus prompts you for the value.
    You can enter any string at the prompt, even one containing blanks and punctuation. If the SQL command containing the reference should have quote marks around the variable and you do not include them there, the user must include the quotes when prompted.
    SQL*Plus reads your response from the keyboard, even if you have redirected terminal input or output to a file. If a terminal is not available (if, for example, you run the script in batch mode), SQL*Plus uses the redirected file.
    After you enter a value at the prompt, SQL*Plus lists the line containing the substitution variable twice: once before substituting the value you enter and once after substitution. You can suppress this listing by setting the SET command variable VERIFY to OFF.
    Using Bind Variables
    Bind variables are variables you create in SQL*Plus and then reference in PL/SQL or SQL. If you create a bind variable in SQL*Plus, you can use the variable as you would a declared variable in your PL/SQL subprogram and then access the variable from SQL*Plus. You can use bind variables for such things as storing return codes or debugging your PL/SQL subprograms.
    Because bind variables are recognized by SQL*Plus, you can display their values in SQL*Plus or reference them in PL/SQL subprograms that you run in SQL*Plus.
    Creating Bind Variables
    You create bind variables in SQL*Plus with the VARIABLE command. For example
    VARIABLE ret_val NUMBER
    This command creates a bind variable named ret_val with a datatype of NUMBER. See the VARIABLE command for more information. (To list all bind variables created in a session, type VARIABLE without any arguments.)
    Referencing Bind Variables
    You reference bind variables in PL/SQL by typing a colon (:) followed immediately by the name of the variable. For example
    :ret_val := 1;
    To change this bind variable in SQL*Plus, you must enter a PL/SQL block. For example:
    BEGIN
    :ret_val:=4;
    END;
    /

  • Relation between Preliminary and Standard Cost Estomate

    Hi,
    I would like to know how preliminary cost estimate using product cost collector and standard cost estimate are related to each other.
    I am not quite clear how both are used for a given plant in repetitive mfg scenario?
    Regards,

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply,
    My question do not need so many details for its answer.
    I would just like to know if standard cost estimate will still be required even if we are using repetitive manufacturing or it gets handled through product cost collector.
    I would like to know if there is any overlap between the two from process point of view.

  • Split the material cost into labor and overhead costs

    Hello Experts,
    We get Finished Goods from another plant and that plant is not on SAP. So we load these materials as Finished Goods and enter the price in the costing tab and we do run cost estimates. In the cost estimate we see this price as material cost. How can we split this material cost into material + labor + over head costs? Is there anywhere we can enter the percentages that would split the total price into material and labor and overhead prices? I appreciate your time and response.
    Thanks In Advance

    HI Venkat,
    You can only split material cost using origin groups and not into material, labour & OH as you may know the cost components are grouping of cost elements (with an option to use origin groups).
    If this is too important for you to maintain that cost component split, then I see the only way is to consider maintaining quantity structure in SAP for the finished product, so that cost roll up happens with cost components.
    Hope this helps.

  • Difference in Price per unit and Standard cost between COPA and PCA

    Hi

    Hi
    By PPU - Do you mean PUP i.e. Per Unit Price of Material Ledger??
    If yes, then you are not comparing apple to apple.. Std cost is bound to be diff than actual cost

  • Cost Center and Cost Element Hierarchy and Actual Cost Center

    In Bex - Right now I am displaying Cost Center and Cost Element hierarchy with 12 months of data. I want to display the actual Cost center number next to cost element hierarchy - Can I display in Bex?
    Tried to with Structure creating formula variable for Cost Center using replacement path - didn't work. Can you please suggest me how i can achieve this?
    The format should be
    CostCenter H1   CostElement H1   CostCenter   Jan  Feb ...
    Thanks in advance and appreciate for any help...

    Let me explain it clearly and hope it is clear now...
    Designed the report as like this - Cost Center Hierarchy by Cost Element Hierarchy for 12 months of data. But Business agian search in R/3 for actual cost center numbers based on above two hierarchy nodes.
    I am trying to achieve this Bex instead of going back to R/3 - so that they can understand how the dollar amount is summed up on which major cost centers.
    If I remove the hierarchy on Cost Center - it will display all the cost centers. They want to see the Cost center numbers based on CC and CE hierarchy node so that you are displaying only those cost centers. That's the reason I am trying to design the  report with CC Hier, CE hier, Cost Center number and 12 months of data.
    In my data model - have only one Cost Center, if i can create another ZCOSTCENTER same as 0COSTCENTER - May be I can achieve this. still looking for options with out changing the design.

  • How to add "Cost Plan Version" and "Planned Cost" into CNE5 report?

    Hi,
    I would like to display Cost Plan Version(VERSN) and Planned Cost in the CNE5 report.
    How to retrieve Planned Cost that based on the Cost Plan Version ?
    Appreciate helps. Thanks.
    Regards,
    See Mun

    Plan versions:   A plan version is created in accounting and stores different cost plans for a project, such as an "optimistic" and a "pessimistic" plan.
    Now coming to plan version 0 is verson where actaul cost is updated in your organisation.
    Plan version 1 is used for the planning...
    How to see the  same in CJE5 is suggested by Virendra..
    However there is no filed name planned cost  in report but the name of the filed is Proj.cost sched.000
    with which you can achieve your result.
    path is run txn CJE5>give your Project no.> F8> in new screen> F5-->in new Window scroll down in the  right side for the Proj.cost sched.000 filed > with select take the same to left side>Enter--> values will displyed for this field in your report.
    similarly you can use the other fields as well... take help of F4, to know the meaning of fileds.

  • Product Cost by Period and Product Cost by Order

    Hi,
    For one client can we go for a group of materials(FERT) with Product Cost by Period and for some other group of materials materials (FERT) Product Cost by Order.
    My question is can both the concepts be used simultaniously for one client?
    Any difficultieis if you follow both the concepts simultaniously.
    I Would greatly appreciate your replies.
    Thanks!!!
    -Kumar

    Hi
    You can very well use both the scenarios at same time.. Absolutely no issues with it...
    Ensure that your Prod order types are separate for both the scenarios....
    Prod Order type for Cost by order will have FUL as settlement type and the order type for Cost by period will have PER....
    So, your user in shop floor needs to have that discipline of selecting the correct order type..
    If your identification is based on some field like Material group, you can also put a custom ABAP check which wil give an error message incase wrong order type is chosen
    For eg: Mat group ABC is allowed for cost by order... Order type for cost by order is Say, ZPP1... Your ABAP code can check if Mat group  is ABC and order type is not ZPP1, then issue an error message
    To put this check, use BADI WORKORDER_UPDATE
