Ad-hoc Query Designer: Create Exception

Hi there,
somehow, my Ad-hoc Query designer is going crazy or something. I don't know whether it is a technical error.... hope you can help me.
When I create an exception, if I don't set the standard operator AND all characteristics to "All" the exception is displayed only for the results.
When I set all these operators to "All", then the results are also marked in the respective colours. However, I only want to mark everything but the results, but if I choose for this option, only the overall result is displayed.
Can you help me?
Thanks,
Sabine

Hi Sabine,
I think I did not fully get what your requirement is, please elaborate on what you want to be displayed. Something general
1. in tab "exception values" you can specify the key figures on which the exceptions are to be applied and assign value ranges to different colors / levels
2. in tab "validity area of exception" you can specify
a) to apply the exception on all or totals only (choicebox), this setting is valid for all characteristics not mentioned in the field below
b) to apply the exception on everything, totals, everything but totals, fixed value, hierarchy level corresponding to a certain characteristic
Best regards,
Björn

  • Ad hoc Query Designer

    Hi,
In which scenarios we use Ad hoc Query Desinger..can you give me an example....I know there are few restrictions when compared to Query designer.....

    hi,
    Ad-Hoc Query designer
Creating a query with the Ad-Hoc query designer is much on the same lines as creating a query with the Bex Query Deisgner. You need to choose the chars and key figures and place them in rows, columns, free chars or filter areas. You can set the InfoObject properties and also create exceptions and conditions.
The Adhoc Query Designer is a web item and can be made available in web reports
See this link for more info and some important restrictions when using the Ad-Hoc Query Designer:

  • How to disable Wizard in Ad-hoc Query Designer

    Hi everybody,
I am using the Bex Ad-hoc Query Designer in a web application. The users should be able to define their own queries, but just for one info provider. I selected the info provider in the properties of the ad-hoc query designer in the web template.
Now the users are able to create queries for all info providers with the wizard.
Is it possible to disable the wizard or to disable all buttons at the top of the ad-hoc query designer.
    Thanks in advance,
    Joerg

This can be done using the security for the Infoprovider,  provide the users access to create queries only for that Infoprovider.

  • Change query in Ad-hoc Query Designer

    Hello All,
We are using Ad-hoc Query Designer for users to run their reports. now we want them to do their modifications there itself and save as the query. But SAVE and SAVE AS buttons are Inactive.
One more problem with using Ad-hoc Query Designer is when we run reports and want to save the Bookmark, this function is not working (though the Bookmark button is Active).
It would be helpful if you could pinpoint the settings/configurations that I would need to check to get above two things working.
    Thanks and Best regards

If you want users to enter the data , you can create a transactional cube andmake the query input ready .

  • Ad Hoc Query Designer - Web Application

    Hello,
I have created a Web application that has the 'Ad-Hoc Query Designer' item.
When I go to create a new query I don't have the option (or I can't find it) to use any variables.
Like in Analyzer I can run a query and it will ask me the values for the variables I have embedded in the query.
How do I make that work using the 'Ad-Hoc Query Designer'
Also I have problems with the application timing out, what timeout variable needs to be adjusted?
    Thanks,
    Nick

You have to run the Launch query in browser from the query designer window, it will be the second icon from the top. This will open up the query in a browser and if the query has a selection screen the browser will launch the selection screen.
For the application timing out, it is a parameter that has to be set in the instance profile of the BI application server. You can ask your basis team to increase the parameter 'rdisp/j2eetimeout'.
    Hope this helps

  • BEx Query Designer and Exceptions

I have a simple enough task.  I was tasked, with marking items on a query with an exception, however the value is not static.  I have a column marked hours, and five columns for each day of the week.  The current day with data should yield an exception if the current day has less hours the the calculated hours column.  So my first approach was to create a formula where I evaluate both the hours calculated from the query and the current day. I called this field fday1.  I created an exception stating that if fday1 = 1 then to mark the field Bad3.  but I want the affected structure to be the Actual Day such my column days are: Day 1 (current date), Day 2 (current date + 1) etc... but when I visit the query (ie, adhoc query) only the formula field fday1 has the exception day triggered.  In the exceptions list  I define the keyfigure fDay1 (time of evaluation [before list calculation]) Under the display tab I have exception affects data cells for the following structure elements: Day 1 (current date).
like If I execute this query through the portal the exception shows up correctly on the proper field.  if I execute the query through the adhoc (BEx Ad Hoc Analysis) view, then the wrong field has the exception.
any thoughts on a better way to approach this query?

Nobody has a solution in order to highlight the whole row (characteristic and key figures) for a value of a key figure ?
With WAD or Query Designer, I'm trying to highlight a line with an exception on a key figure but it apparently colors only key figures.
For example i would have entire colored rows for negative key figure :
    field1:a field2:x field3:e key_figure:1
    field1:b field2:x field3:e key_figure:7
    field1:b field2:y field3:e key_figure:-5
    field1:d field2:z field3:j key_figure:1
I can use WAD or Query Designer but not Visual Composer or Report Designer...
    Thanks for help.

  • BW query designer - create formula using percentage variable

    Hello BW Experts!
I am using Business explorer query designer 7.x (based on 7.2) and I want need to create a formula based on 1 KF and a variable that the user would be able to enter when running the query.  The variable I want to pass is a percentage that will change each time they run the report and then I will multiply that percentage by the desired KF.  Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
      Jim

    hi Jim,
you can achieve this using formula variable. This variable is going to be user entry variable and you can use that variable for further calculation, in your case for formula.
    thanks.

  • Difference between sap query and sap ad hoc query

    Hello Experts-
Is there any difference between sap query and sap ad hoc query. If yes, I will appreciate if you can provide some input.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    SAP Query
    Purpose
The SAP Query application is used to create reports not already contained in the default. It has been designed for users with little or no knowledge of the SAP programming language ABAP.
SAP Query offers users a broad range of ways to define reports and create different types of reports such as basic lists, statistics, and ranked lists.
    Features
The SAP Query comprises five components: Queries, InfoSet Query, InfoSets, User Groups and Translation/Query.
Classic reporting- the creation of lists, statistics and ranked lists- are covered by the InfoSet Query and Queries components. Other components’ range of functions cover the maintenance of InfoSets, the administration of user groups and also the translation of texts created in the SAP Query.
All data required by a user for a report can be read from various tables.
To define a report, you first have to enter individual texts, such as titles, and select the fields and options which determine the report layout. In the WYSIWYG mode, you can edit the lists using Drag & Drop and various toolbars.
    AD Hoc Query
    Definition
A Web item that enables you to create and change queries in a Web application on an ad-hoc basis.
    Use
You can use the  Ad-hoc Query Designer Web item in the Web Application Designer to structure Web applications in which you create or change queries. The Web item is as a tool for designing ad-hoc queries in a Web environment.
In particular it enables you to:
    ·        Create queries by assigning characteristics from an InfoProvider to rows, columns, filters, and free characteristics, and including key figures from the InfoProvider in the key figure structure of the query.
    ·        Restrict or filter key figures and characteristics
    ·        Use predefined key figure structures and restricted or calculated key figures in the query
    ·        Set or change query properties and key figure/characteristic properties in the query
    ·        Create or change conditions and exceptions
When compared with the BEx Query Designer, the Ad-hoc Query Designer Web item has the following restrictions when creating or changing queries:
    ·        You cannot integrate variables into the query directly.
However, you can use variables in reusable structures, or restricted or calculate key figures, which are used in the Ad-hoc Query Designer
    ·        The query can contain only one structure. This structure has to be the key figure structure and be in the rows or columns of the query.
    -        You cannot use key figures or key figure structures in the filter.
    -        You cannot define exception cells, since this requires two structures.
You cannot create the following objects using the Ad-hoc Query Designer Web item:
    -         Reusable structures
    -         Reusable restricted key figures
    -         Reusable calculated key figures
    -        Local calculated key figures
You can create local, restricted key figures using the Ad-hoc Query Designer Web item.
You can edit existing queries in the Ad-hoc Query Designer Web item, if the queries adhere to the restrictions laid out above The Ad-hoc Query Designer checks these requirements when loading a query. If the query is too complex, the query can be loaded into the Ad-hoc Query Designer but you cannot change it there. You then receive the appropriate message. You can still check and execute the query.
"Ad Hoc" is a Latin phrase which means "for this purpose" and in today's parlance generally means "on the fly," or "spontaneously."
An ad hoc query is a query that is run at the spur of the moment, and generally is never saved to run again. These queries are run using a SQL statement created by a tool or an administrator. So therefore, such a query is one that might suit a situation which is only there for the moment and later on will become irrelevant.
As queries become more complex, it can be difficult to write them correctly ad-hoc. To help with this, one can instead write the knowledge needed for queries as business rules in English, and then use a system called "Internet Business Logic" to automatically generate and run the SQL queries. One can then get explanations of the results, in English, at the business level.

  • Adhoc query designer in BI 7.0

    Hello BI Experts,
How and where to use the Adhoc query designer in BI 7.0 Web application designer. Is this web item available. what is the new name for it.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance
    BWer

    Hi BWer,
The Ad Hoc Query Designer Web item is no longer available in the BI 7.0 runtime, only with the BI 3.x tools. The BEx Web Analyzer is the tool now used - you can create new query views from an existing query or directly against an InfoProvider.

  • Formula Logic for Dates in the Cell Editor in Query Designer

    Hi All
We are on BI7. (This is in the Cell Editor in Query Designer)
I am trying to create a formula in one cell that enters a date based on the following logic (Lets call this formula A):
I also have a placeholder "Cell reference" for a Date in another cell in the Cell Editor (Lets call it B).
I also have two other dates in seperate cells in the Editor (Lets call them C and D)
What i need to do is check that either C or D are not blank i.e one at least has a date and if so enter the date that is in B in A.
My formula logic in (Cell A) at the moment is as follows:
    ( Cell C <> 0 ) OR ( Cell D <> 0) * Cell B
When I run the query It is coming back with either a 1 or  0 depending if there is a date in C or D.
What I want it to do is to display the actual date of  'Cell B'  in 'Cell A' if  ( Cell C <> 0 ) OR ( Cell D <> 0)
If the value of B is blank ie no date I also want A to be blank i.e not equal zero or a blank date ie 00/00/0000
    Example 1
    Cell A    08/09/2009
    Cell B    08/09/2009
    Cell C   15/03/2010
    Cell D
Cell A should = 08/09/2009 as there is a Date in Cell C or D and if so enter the date of Cell B in cell A
    Example 2
    Cell A
    Cell B    08/09/2009
    Cell C
    Cell D
Cell A should = BLANK as there is a NO Date in Cell C or D
    Example 3
    Cell A
    Cell B
    Cell C   15/03/2010
    Cell D
Cell A should = BLANK as there is a No Date in Cell B although a Date in cell C or D.
Thank you for assistance in advance
    Kind regards
    Stevo

    Hi there,
It seems you have done almost everything...
What it seems that is missing is probably the cell reference for Cell C and for Cell D, or did you forget to mention it here?
So here it is the big idea:
    - In the Cell Editor of the query designer, create a new cell reference for Cell C, let's name it ref_cell_c;
    - In the Cell Editor of the query designer, create a new cell reference for Cell D, let's name it ref_cell_d;
    - In the Cell Editor of the query designer, create a new cell reference for Cell B, let's name it ref_cell_b;
    - In the Cell Editor of the query designer, create a new formula for Cell A, let's name it form_cell_a;
The form_cell_a should be created by the following:
    ( COUNT(ref_cell_c) + COUNT(ref_cell_d) ) * ref_cell_b
So COUNT(operand) returns 1 if operand is different of 0 else it returns 0; So if ref_cell_c has any valu or ref_cell_d has any value it should return the value of ref_cell_b.
Please note that with this formula, if you have values in both ref_cell_c and ref_cell_d this formula returns 2 * ref_cell_b, which is not what you pretend, I'm assuming you'll have value only for the following combinations:
ref_cell_c has value but ref_cell_d don't have any
ref_cell_c don't have any value but ref_cell_d has a value
ref_cell_c don't have any value neighther has ref_cell_d any
    Diogo.

  • In query designer, an hierarchy(structure)  duplicating lines in level 2.

Here we are at version 7.0 - SP 10, I have created a structure hierarchy in BEX, and when I execute this query the result is ok ... until I tried to closed or open the second level.
At first, it doesn't close, and the worst if I tried to open  it's
duplicating the lines of the second level.
In query designer, creating an hierarchy(structure) something like this:
    > total division 1
    ...> division 1.1
    ...> division 1.2
    > total division 2
    ...> division 2.1
    ...> division 2.2
and after the execution, if I tried to close or open the level of division 2 the result will duplicates the lines division 2.1 and division  2.2. the result is like this:
    > total division 1
    ...> division 1.1
    ...> division 1.2
    > total division 2
    ...> division 2.1
    ...> division 2.2
    <b>...> division 2.1
    ...> division 2.2</b>
The stange is in excel it works normaly.
    Best regards,
    Silvio Meurer

    Hi,
An Heirarchy is always an addition of the below nodes. hence. WBS 1 = WBS 1.1 + WBS 1.2. since youre looking at durations. it will add up 7+9 instead of looking at earliest start and latest end dates.
dont know if itll work but a suggestion would be to get the start date and end date for WBS 1 and then do the calculation for duration in a formula in query designer.

  • Adhoc query designer

    Hi All,
Is adhoc query designer (Portal) supports 7.3 version? we have 3.x version
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Ad-hoc query designer is removed (BOBJ WebI fulfills this need).
The use of WebI can be through LiveOffice, BICS, OLAP & SQL Universes, QaaWs and Data Federator for accelerated (BWA) or non-accelerated ad-hoc querying (can also be used for any 7.x system)
    Thanks,
