ADA Fixes for Robohelp: Frames & CSS Issues

Fellow Robohelpers:
I am attempting to resolve a set of major issues within Robohelp 8
a) Frames are not properly named in Robohelp 8. Is anyone aware with which files to change (post generation or pre-generation of outputs) to rename Frames so the visually impaired user is clearly informed which frame they are on
b)When you disable CSS, the navigational elements (frames) become a jumble. They do not function correctly (TOC, Index, Search) since Robohelp is heavily CSS dependent and hides objects (text fields, the various left hand navigational elments) behind CSS.
Any reccomendations how to resolve these, or insights as to how to make Adobe aware of this! I have been reaching out to them about this for quite some time! I am hoping capturing a workaround for at least a) will make the tool one step closer to ADA compliance (screen reader compliance)
Thanks
Yaseen

Hi,
I guess your output is WebHelp. First, try to create 'Section 508 compliant' output or pure HTML output. This may solve quite a bit of your problems.
If you don't want that output, this is what I think:
a) RH nests a lot of frames, but start looking at the launch file, the csh.htm file, whskinfrmset01.htm and whskin_frmset010.htm. Note that if you change the names of frames, this may cause some scripts to stop functioning...
b) As for the CSS issues, the only way to make that work is to manually sort out all problems and amend the javascripts.
If you want to let Adobe know your wish, use the wish form: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&product=38

  • [svn] 4756: Bug fix for universal Advanced CSS selectors.

    Revision: 4756
    Author: [email protected]
    Date: 2009-01-30 07:58:55 -0800 (Fri, 30 Jan 2009)
    Log Message:
Bug fix for universal Advanced CSS selectors.
    1. In CSS, the universal selector * matches any element. It is often implied in selectors, such as the .foo class selector would formally be written *.foo { }. So, what we were previously calling "global selectors" will now be referred to as universal selectors. Flex retains its own special top level "global" selector to function as the root of the inheriting style prototype chain, but other universal selectors will not be associated with this special subject.
    2. When looking for universal selectors, we now match against all possible selectors that have * as the subject rather than trying to pick out specific styleName (class), id or pseudo conditions. This is needed as there may arbitrary advanced conditions in the selector chain, for example, descendant selectors that have a universal subject. Note this was the actual cause of the bug - but the other fixes were needed to separate "global" from "*".
    3. In the compiler, we'll still use the generated _globalStyles.as (i.e. from the "global" StyleDef collection of style declarations) as the place holder for universal selectors (as _*Styles.as would be an invalid ActionScript class name), though these universal selectors will report their subject as "*".
    4. When representing a selector in full as a String, we'll continue to omit "*" as the subject and substitute the empty string, so "*.foo" will be printed as ".foo".

Is there a fix for the wifi connectivity issue after ios6 update?
Cannot connect to any wifi since update to 6.0.1
How do I get update to 6.0.2?
    Will that even help?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Any fix for the kernel panic issue?

So far, i've had 12 kernel panics. Usually it only happens when I start iTunes or software update. I read in a developer forum it was because of the NVIDIA Graphics card. So, are there any fixes for the kernel panics with Lion?

There is no bluetooth connectivity issue after the recent OS update. There may be a problem with your phone, which may or may not be related to the update. A "common problem" looks like this in the forums:
I haven't seen any threads on BlueTooth with over 1.4 million views and over 12,000 replies, or even any vaguely close. For any problem that someone has there is bound to be someone else amoung 150 million users who have it. That doesn't make it a "common problem."
If you tell us what the problem is specifically and what you have done so far to try to resolve it someone can probably help you.

  • Any fix for MS mouse scrolling issue?

Hey there. I've somewhat recently come into a problem where my Microsoft wireless mouse won't scroll through the iTunes library with the scroll wheel.
I've done other searches, I've seen others with the same problem, but no solutions.
Is this a permanent issue between the Microsoft mouse and the iTunes program that we have to wait for an official fix, or did something go wrong in my installations and I can fix the problem myself? (I have the newest IntelliPoint drivers and the newest version of iTunes).
The problem wasn't evident in XP, so it's probably a Vista vs. iTunes thing, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong or if there was an easy fix for it.

***** to have to buy a new mouse to fix the problem, I like how this mouse feels and moves (sigh..I love censors)
I guess when this one is about ready to be replaced I'll turn to logitech, but hopefully some sort of patch or fix will be introduced to let MS mice scroll in iTunes lol

  • Is there a fix for 5d ii focus issue

Hello,  I just purchased the 5Dii used but the owner said the camera was working perfectly. I notice that when I take photos the photos do not look sharp. I am shooting in raw and using fast enough settings that they should be sharp. I tried different lenses and a tripod still same results when viewed at 100%. So I have been reading about the 5d ii having focus issues and was wondering if there is a fix to this problem? Also, I read that with 21 mp the photos won't look sharp in the view finder or when viewed at 100% has anyone else heard this?  Any suggestions would be helpful. I am thinking I need to return the item which is a shame, I was so excited to get the 5d ii and very disappointed to be having this issue.

I don't suggest using the viewfinder to judge quality of photos -- it's too small.
There are no focus "issues" with a 5D II -- it's an excellent camera.  It doesn't have the advanced focus system of the 5D III but if the focus points on your 5D II tell you that something is correctly focused then it should be correctly focused.
There are NUMEROUS things that can cause problems (none of which are defects.)
    1)  If you allow the camera to auto-select it's focus point, remember that the camera will always pick the focus point which can lock focus at the closest focusing distance.  Suppose you're taking a photo of someone's face, but on the side of the frame there's a bush -- and that push is in far enough that one of the focus points is on the bush.  The camera will focus on the bush and NOT on your subject's face.  Usually you will want the camera to focus on the nearest subject, but when shooting shots with distracting elements in the frame which are closer then your intended subject, you need to pick the focus point you want the camera to use rather than allow it to auto-select the point.
    2)  If focusing at a particularly low focal ratio (especially at close distances) the depth of field can get REALLY thin.  If you want focus on your subject's eyes -- you will need to carefully position the focus point and lock focus on your subject's eyes -- otherwise you may end up getting a focus lock on their nose (as an example) and the eyes will be slightly soft.
    3)  In the default "one shot" mode, the camera will focus prior to taking the shot.  When focus lock is achieved the camera will stop adjusting focus.  If either you or your subject move after that point, the camera will NOT re-adjust -- you'll get  a soft shot.  With moderate f-stops usually a small movement wont change focus distance enough to matter -- this is mostly an issue at shallow f-stops.  But if shooting action where you KNOW your subject is moving and focus distance is changing, you need to use the "AI Servo" mode which continuosly updates focus.
    4)  Your 5D II allows you to adjust the focus accuracy of a lens.  Some lenses will routinely focus just slightly in front or behind your intended focus distance.  When you detect that you have a lens that does this, the camera can compensate.  This adjustment requires that you set up an accurate focus test to determine if an adjustment is needed and how much.  Do not attempt to make an adjustment by using regular every-day shots... use a carefully controlled focus target, tripod, etc.  There's a procedure for doing this.
    5)  If you suspect inaccuracy with focus points (and you really need to be careful to use controlled circumstances before arriving at such a conclusion) you can test by switching to "live view" mode to see if you get different results.  Live view mode does not use the phase-detect auto-focus points... it uses contrast-detection focus instead.  Contrast detection is slower but in theory should be able to provide more accurate focus as long as you have a subject with some decent contrast.  If live view is consistently outperforming the standard phase-detect AF mode then you may need to perform focus adjustment on your camera (this is specific to each lens you own... this is because each lens can behave differently.)
Lastly... your camera records which AF points were used when it takes a photo.  This data can be displayed IF you use the Canon EOS Utility (which should have come with your camera).  It'll put the familiar focus array overlaying your photo and highlight the active point(s).  Just be aware that if you did a "focus and recompose" that the camera is going to report which focus point was used to lock focus but wouldn't know you recomposed the shot.  If you're not recomposing and your subject distance wasn't changing then the utility should be accurate.
Incidentally, Apple's "Aperture" software also allows you to view the Canon focus point data.  As far as I'm aware, this is not available in Lightroom or Photoshop.

  • Is there a fix for the whining MacBook issue?

So, has there been a good and final solution from Apple to the whining MacBook problem? I just received my brothers MacBook as he upgraded to the MBP. It is still under Apple Care so if there is a good solution I would like to send it in to get fixed.
I had never heard of this issue but as soon as I started using it when I got it I heard the whine and couldn't stand it. I did a little research online and most posts I've seen about it are fairly old. I did download QuietMBP which works, though it uses about 8% of the CPU capability which I'm sure drags down my battery life. It does work though, with it running the MB is quiet as my old Ibook was so at least I can happily use it. It just seems like a backwards sort of fix though.

I have the same problem and am trying to find a solution. I have an intel iMac Alum 20" 2.0ghz, 2gigs Ram, Radeon 2400XT, 250 Gig HD. The noise started after about three days of ownership. I have this for almost two weeks now. I cant find any solutions and have talked to Apple over the phone they suggested taking it to an Apple store and let them take a look at it, but I live an hour away from the nearest store, so this is a pain. But yes, the whining is annoying and loud at times. It whines for like 1-2 seconds going from a low pitch to a high pitch in those 2 seconds. It then stops and comes back maybe 20 seconds later. So thats been happening for about a weeek now.
Then all of a sudden early this morning (4AM), while the computer was in sleep mode, I was awakened by that same high pitched sound, but it wouldnt stop, I had to get up and turn the computer off. I would definatley love to get some answers and have this fixed. I've read many posts now with people having similar experiences.
So now this ShhMBP thingy, I wonder if this will work with an iMac. Just want this fixed. Thanks

  • Fix for WebHelp frame display in Mozilla?

I've checked a number of resources on this topic, including
Peter Grainge's helpful Website, but I have yet to find a solution.
When running our WebHelp Help project in Mozilla, the top portion
of the project frame that separates the navigation and topic
viewing area from the contents, index, and search tabs is hidden.
Is there some type of tweak that can be made to one of the
javascript files to make this portion of the frame display? P.S.
The JavaScript console in Mozilla reported a number of scripting
and htm page errors. The errors point to the following files:
    whstart.js, whskin_tbars.htm, whskin_mbrs.htm. Thank you for your
    input.

    You say,
The missing frame is a HUGE sore spot with our overseas
colleagues who see this as a significant flaw and would like to
    have it fixed.
    I'm not sure I understand what's missing.
In lieu of a picture, here's a list of window and frame
    components I see in Firefox (Netscape is substantially the same;
    Opera is a little different.):
    1. The Firefox browser window, with toolbars, status bar,
etc. as specified in the browser's View menu.
    Inside the window:
    2. The main WebHelp toolbar across the width of the window.
2a. A background image or color of my choice in the toolbar.
2b. Contents, Index, Search, Glossary, "About" buttons, any
that I specified in the single source layout.
2c. A custom logo/button that I built into the skin in RH.
2d. A horizontal frame rule between the main toolbar and the
topic, visible in IE, is missing in Mozilla and the other browsers.
    3. The Navigation frame at left.
3a. The minibar heading, in a background color or image of my
choice (requires a patch in whskin_mbars.htm) and a thin bottom
    border.
3b. The "Hide" X icon (requires one of those patches)
3c. Triangle icons for browsing foward and back, if I built a
browse sequence (requires one of those patches).
3d. The selected listing -- Contents, Index, whatever.
3e. A vertical frame rule between the left and topic frames,
matching the horizontal frame rule above the topic.
    4 The topic frame
4a. The topic header, if any.
4b The topic. with scrollbars if needed
4c The topic footer, if any.
So, please explain, what's missing in your WebHelp that is "a
    HUGE sore spot "?

  • Possible fix for Word2004 "Date Modified" issue

I'm not sure if anyone else is still dealing with this problem - we discussed it a year ago here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7610823
But just in case there's someone else out there with the problem - I think I've found a fix (requiring OSX Server 10.5, tested on OSX Server 10.5.6)
    The problem:
When you have a Word 2004 file (whatever.doc) stored on a server (10.4.0-10.5.6) then you have an annoying Date Modified issue. Whenever someone who is not the owner simply opens the file, the Date Modified date updates. When the owner of the file opens it, the date does not change. So by simply opening the document (and making no changes, and not re-saving it) you trigger an update of the Date Modified field.
More info can be found following the link above.
Well. I think I've found a work-around that's better then the current "Have everyone login as the same user" one.
In OSX Server, setup the permissions for the share with group as "read only" - so the POSIX permissions only give non-owners read-only access. (Everyone should also be RO or None)
Then you need to apply a Custom ACL. You want to give them Read & Write, but then edit the Write permissions to not allow Write Attributes and Write Extended Attributes.
    So the ACL is:
    [ ] Administration
    [Y] Read
    [-] Write
    --[ ] Write Attributes
    --[ ] Write Extended Attributes
    --[Y] Create Files (Write Data)
    --[Y] Create Folder (Append Data)
    --[Y] Delete
    --[Y] Delete Subfolders and Files
    [Y] Inheritance
Obviously this means your users cannot write attributes - so for photos and other files where meta-data is critical, this is not a great idea. But for the vast majority of shares, this is fine - they can still "read and write" all the files and folders, but the Date Modified problem does not arise.
I'd be interested to see if this works for anyone else. Please let me know
    Charles

Interesting and understood. I always tell people/clients that want to use dates either date created but definitely date modified to add that into the name of the file or call them revisions each time, ie:
    lawsuitJamesrev2
    or
    lawsuitJames_5_1209
Reason being is depending on the backup system or worse yet disaster recovery you might not see or be able to see modified dates. IF the file is labeled as shown above it makes it easier. Again each person is different but from experience this works best as well as sorting. Also law firms I worked with have a number system since they needed to follow regulations on how to secure content. Again just ideas...hope you find an answer and pass it on

  • Fix for overlay text rendering issue

@Neil Enns - I have branched this into a new discussion from original thread: Re: Trouble with ipa size after changing assets
Having some issues with overlays that are set to "vector" for "Export format in PDF articles"
It seems as this setting doesn't really affect the output of the overlays? as a test we updated a few of our overlays to utilize this setting and after running them through DPS and loading up the resulting .ipa file the results remain pretty consistently pixelated.
As a note, we are using 2048x1536 source files, rendering a 1024x768 folio and viewing on a retina display. (all screencaps taken from retina displays)
This setup is described as providing an optimal balance between file size and image quality in the thread mentioned above.
Is there anything we could be doing that would prevent the "vector" setting from rendering properly?
Or is this perhaps just the best that type in an overlay will look with a 1024 folio on a retina screen?
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Neil Enns - Adobe / Bob Levine
Thank you both for the advice. There is a bit of strangeness though when importing the article. We had a couple of test folios we were using and on one of the folios the import article process would default to "automatic" format. When we forced the article format to be "PDF" all of a sudden our overlays were coming out nice and crisp!
    Huge thanks!!
I do have one final follow up about this though.
It seems that the "vector" format only applies to the second state of the overlay? For instance we have some buttons which have text objects in them inside our MSO. These buttons then trigger the second state of the object which now nicely appears as vector... but how come the buttons are still getting rasterized?
Is there any way to apply this same vector format to buttons? Or is this only an option for an MSO?
Just trying to understand how all this works!
Thanks again for all your help and advice.

  • So, Apple - how about a fix for all these upgrade issues?

Downloaded 7.0.2 and firstly it wouldn't open iTunes at all. Followed discussion advice, uninstalled then re-installed Quicktime. Can now open (labouriously) iTunes, but it has removed 215 songs from my iPod saying I don't have permission to play them - even though every single one is purchased from the iTunes store.
    Any advice gratefully accepted!
Very similar to bugs following download of iTunes 6.

What did it fix? Because as far as I can tell, everyone is scrambling to get rid of it off their computer because they can't even USE the update. It freezes and closes every time I try to even play a song. I'm afraid to even plug in my iPod. It won't add any new songs either, and I can't switch between playlists or anything. I'm so sick of this and the people at Apple need to get off their lazy butts and fix the giant problem they started! From what any of us can tell, they haven't done squat, they haven't even announced that 7.1 is crap that ruins half the iTunes it updates!
How long are we going to have to wait before we can use iTunes again? I'm too scared to move back to 7.0.2 or whatever it's called. From what I've heard now, half your songs are gone and I doubt that it keeps your playcount or your star selections. Which means that most of us will be going through 1000+ songs all over again.
Is there ANYTHING good that came of 7.1? because I would like some consolation that the people at Apple didn't just release it for kicks.

  • Possible Fix for the Random Shutdown Issue

One of the readers at MacFixit was able too find a solution to his RSD Macbook. He discovered when he removed the top case (they keyboard) off his machine, the Macbook worked fine. After further investigation, he found out that the top case and the heat sync seem to touch each other while the machine is closed (generating more heat). To fix the RSD he put kapton tape on the top case (to separate the heat sync and the top case) and on the track pad cable. Not only did it fix the RSD problem, another plus it causes the computer to run cooler.
So it appears what Apple needs to do is, either put Kapton tape on the top case, or move some the thermal grease from the processor too the top case. Another easy fix might be just to send out new top cases (since only a significant minority are effected by this problem, their might just be a set of bad cases out their).
Before you decide to open up your machine and put on Kapton tape on your machine, keep this in mind, it will void your warranty.
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060821101232169
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Holding down the power button until it beeps is still the only way that I can get my machine to boot up fully and become operational. I was starting to think that I was crazy after reading above that all it did was to remind me that my finger was still on the power button. I've had my husband and my son watch this process just to convince myself I wasn't crazy.
I've been deleting software, going through log files, making other changes to make sure that they weren't interfering with the machine working. I shut the machine off this morning to go do something else. When I turned it on again I forgot to hold the power button until I heard the beep. After I logged in, I realized that I hadn't done that and that the machine had actually gone through the complete boot cycle and login. I thought "wow, maybe I fixed it. Maybe it was something software related." I waited for a few minutes to make sure that everything that it had to do in its start up was finished before I did anything thinking "well maybe its just that I try to do too many things too quickly, and it is operator error and my fault I've been having this problem". Then I went to open Safari and "blink" the machine went dead.
Then I put my finger on the power button until it beeped to start it up a second time. I've been working on it for six hours now. It's gone to sleep while I've been on the phone, I've woken it up with a short press of the power button and logged in a few times today.....not one single problem in 6 hours.
It's crazy. I don't know what holding the power button for that long does but it must be resetting or otherwise doing something that causes it to override whatever problem was causing it to just shut down by itself. I love everything else about this MacBook. I don't want to have someone start taking it apart and putting it back together again. If the fix is just remembering to "hold power until it beeps" I"ll live with it.

  • Found fix for iOS 6 wifi issues

go to settings-safari-turn off "use cellular data"-connect to wifi-go back and turn it on again.

If you are having the issue where it takes you to a login page, goto Settings > WiFi and tap on the blue button to the right of your network name. There'll probably be an option to auto-join and you'll want to toggle that. If it's off, turn it on then back off. If it's on, toggle it off. If prompted to login again, just hit Cancel in the upper-right. Now goto Safari app and you should be prompted to connect to your network at which time it should work. It did for me at least and a friend of mine.

  • Still no fix for USB card sleep Issue

Hi I just bought a 3rd party USB 2.0 card (an IOGEAR GIC251U). When I plug my LaCie extrenal USB drive in it works fine, until the computer has been to sleep. When the computer wakes up the drive has disappeared and I get a message saying that the drive has been improperly disconnected and that I can damage it by not ejecting before disconnecting.
Looking at the posts on this forum, it seems that this PCI USB card sleep issue is a persistant problem. I have even heard buying a card described as a "crap shoot".
That is not an acceptable answer to me. I insist that Apple reccomend a USB 2.0 card that it is willing to garuntee will work with my mac (an AGP G4 blue and white tower). If not, how can Apple in good faith sell computers with PCI that isnt equipped to handle built in apple features such as the sleep mode? I don't mean to sound like a demanding jerk of a customer but I dont think it is too much to ask that my computers advertised features (PCI expandability and sleep mode) both be able to work together.
G4/400 MHz AGP graphics   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi
xlr8yourmac.com has a wealth of info on compatable devices of all kinds, it's often worth looking there & other Mac sites before purchasing..
Apple cannot possibly determine compatability of all available 3rd party devices, it is up to the vendor to determine what systems/OS versions their hardware will support.
I would stick with a vendor that is known for Mac support, such as Sonnet (or others that are sold through Mac sites such as OWC, SmallDog,etc.,) unless you are willing to do significant research on a specific product for compatability with your specific setup prior to purchasing.

  • Is there any fix for the bluetooth connectivity issue after most recent OS update?

Seems to be a common problem particularly with bluetooth headseat connectivity. Any ideas?

There is no bluetooth connectivity issue after the recent OS update. There may be a problem with your phone, which may or may not be related to the update. A "common problem" looks like this in the forums:
I haven't seen any threads on BlueTooth with over 1.4 million views and over 12,000 replies, or even any vaguely close. For any problem that someone has there is bound to be someone else amoung 150 million users who have it. That doesn't make it a "common problem."
If you tell us what the problem is specifically and what you have done so far to try to resolve it someone can probably help you.
