Adaptive RFC use in test/dev systems

The Adaptive RFC model requires a msg.server for metadata. Does that mean it can't be used in test/dev system where there is only an app server? I find that hard to believe.
Secondly, during the creation of JCO Connections in the webdnypro content admin tool, the drop down boxes for message server and application server are empty. where is this data defined? saplogon.ini + ...drivers/etc/services files were copied to the WAS/SLD host machine.
Furthermore, is the Adaptive RFC the best way to use SAP data (called from function modules) in a webdynpro?
Thanks,
faB.

Hi,
1.Even in development system you have centrall services, and as part of this you have a message server. So you can use Adaptive RFC model in development sysetems without any problem.
2.Regarding you second question: you should define you application system in SLD before using JCO destinations. Just search for SLD in this forum and you will fine the how to configure it.
3. AFAIK, Adaptive RDC model <b>is</b> the best way (it's better to say the <b>proper</b> way) to use your SAP application system in the WAS context.
Hope it helps.

  • One adaptive RFC Model and Multi Backend System.

    Hi All,
I am trying to fetch data from multi backend system by using an adaptive RFC model.
It is not tidy to create multi model for a RFC function to fetch data from multi SAP system, because we have dozens of SAP systems.(over 40)
So, I would like to switch to multiple SAP systems with an adaptive RFC model at runtime.
      1 model(Same Function) -
    > System A
    > System B
    > System C
Is there any sample or tutorial about this sort of senario?
    Thanks in advance.

    JeongEog,
You may use SAP java Connector for doing that. Refer the following links for the step-by-step approach.

  • J2SE adapter engine and SSL testing

    Hi there,
We are currently doing a B2B scenario whereby SAP XI sends a message to the J2SE adapter engine in the DMZ and then that sends the message via HTTPS / SSL to the receiving service....
In order to test that the HTTPS / certificate etc worked I wrote a small Java application and dialled out of the network. I inserted the DER file into my CACERTS file on my local machine using the keytool as a "trusted certificate". The Java application worked 100% and did the SSL handshake fine and POSTED the data fine as well......
Now I am no expert in the J2SE adapter engine but decided to try testing the same SSL connection using the J2SE adapter engine from my LOCAL machine with me dialled out onto the Internet.
I logged into the J2SE adapter engine and imported the same DER file into the engine  (actually inserted into the "truststore.jks" file). I them went into the "Test Environment" of the J2SE adapter and have been trying to test.....
    I have a few questions:
    1. Do I have to use a P12 or PFX file for this sort of communication? Reason I ask is that with the Java application all I needed was the DER file?
    2. In the full blown scenario do I have to have SSL configured between XI and the J2SE adapter engine as well? Or can that stay as HTTP?
My basic config for the test is roughly:
    WS.targetURL=https://someserver:4433/soap/someInbox
    WS.SOAPAction=CustomSoapAction
    SSLauthentication=true
Do I really need the following two?
    SSLcertificate=somecert.p12
    SSLcertificatePassword=somepassword
From my logic all I should need if the DER file loaded into the J2SE adapter which I have done......
Has anyone done successfull SSL / HTTPS testing from the J2SE adapter engine using the "Test Environment"?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated
    Kind regards
    Lynton

    Hi
Not a answer to your question but why use the J2SE adapter engine in the DMZ and why not the J2EE Decentral Adapter Engine?

  • Why SLD for Adaptive RFC Model?

    Hi,
Is it necessary to configure the settings in SLD in order to run an adaptive RFC Model or does one have alternatives?
Because, while defining an adaptive RFC Model in NW-Dev-Studio, one does explicitly enter the SAP Log on information.
    Regards
    Meesum

    Hi,
SLD is required to run the RFC application.
At design time there is no dependency on SLD and we are not going to specify SLD details during the model import.
Runtime will pickup the connection info from ContentAdminstrator where we will point to SLD.

  • How can eCATT used for testing of z program on DEV system &data on Quality?

    Hello All,
Background - Custom object is (for e.g. any report program) which I want to test is present on DEV system  and required data (e.g. data that will be passed to selection screen fields of program) on Quality system.
Question -How to do testing of program using eCATT without transporting my program to Quality box? Please anyone can give me any insights on this to fix the data availability issue.
My efforts - Created System data container specifying RFC connection for Quality system. Created Test Data Container with data available on Quality box. Here, I specified target system as 'Quality' for the data.  Created Test script (for SE38 tcode ) and did the parameterization(giving program name as parameter , other selection screen fields) and set the Target system for each parameter to QUALITY.  Created Test Configuration specifying with all required parameters .
When I ran the test script from Test Configuration, test script started to run on Quality system. But failed saying program/object does not exist on quality box.
Importance - This is required as no data available on DEV box, need to move program/object to Quality system. Hence, multiple transort requests are created.

Thank you for your quick response, BalusC. I really appreciate your answer.
Yes, you are right. If I manually code the same amount of those components in the JSF pages instead of generating them dynamically, the server will still run out of memory. That is to say, JSF pages might not accommodate a great deal of concurrent visiting. If I upgrade the server to just allow 1,000 teachers making their own test papers at the same time, but when over 2,000 students take the same questionnaire simultaneously, the server will need another upgrading. So I have to do what you have told me, using JS+DOM instead of upgrading the server endlessly.

  • Using an Adaptive RFC Model from JSP

I'm trying to use an Adaptive RFC Model I created for use in our Web Dynpros from a Portal Application project. I've created 2 DCs:
    1. A Web Dynpro DC, only containing the imported Adaptive RFC Model. The model has been added to the public parts.
    2. A Portal Application DC, with the model DC added as a DC usage (along with the other required DCs)
Now, everything appears to work from inside NWDS. The dot operator works while editing my JSPDynPage class, and everything builds fine, but when I deploy and test in the portal, I get "package not found" errors on the actual JSP. I assume this is because the JSP is compiled at run-time. How do I expose these classes to the JSP compiler?
It's seems like using the same method to call BAPIs in Web Dynpros and Java iViews would be a good practice following SAP's "reusable code" policy, so there must be a way to do it...

    Jonathan,
Adaptive RFC Model works correctly only when running inside WebDynpro container. JSP runs outside container (in regular J2EE WebApplication container).
The error you receive is due to missing run-time references to container classes.
Actually, what you are trying to do is dead end, sorry.
Use SAP Enterprise Connector instead of Adaptive RFC model. Generated connector classes works from any environment. Also they are sooo similar to Adaptive RFC that you'll even not mention a difference.

  • SAP R3 Conector System at the Adaptative RFC model

    Hi folks!
We´ve generated a Web Dynpro project using the Adaptative RFC model. When running the application we get the exception:
    com.sap.dictionary.runtime.DdException: at com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.datatypes.core.DataTypeBroker$1.fillSldConnection(DataTypeBroker.java:89)
This surely happens because we haven´t defined the SAP R3 connector system:
Could someone please show us how to do this?
We are using SAP R3 Dedeicated connection, should we use the SAP R3 ConnectionString? At least, we need to know which is the Gateway Host, the SAP R3 machine or the J2EE WAS one? Is the other the Application Server Host? What would be the Gateway Service?
In the other hand, at defining the RFC Destinations on the SAP R3 server, we´re using the "Registered Server Program" Activation Type. Is this correct? When testing the connection, it fails because the program is not registered at the server.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
To give u a brief idea.
rfcs are used to call data from the backend that is R/3.We use the Bapis from the R/3 system which have some pre defined functionality and data is populated in the correspoding ui elements in webdynpro interface.earlier Rfcs were used but now we have adaptive rfcs in which
if there are changes in the backend(R/3 system) such as changes in the datatype, structures, fields would be automatically be refllected in the rfcs and there would be no errors in web dyn pro even if there is  a change in the back end

  • How to Use synchronous RFC calls during test run for remote accesses

there is a Setting for the usage of RFC accesses from a tested system
    using eCATT.
'X' - Use asynchronous RFC calls during test run for remote accesses
' ' - Use synchronous RFC calls during test run for remote accesses
I developed an eCATT as following :
      SAPGUI ( SAPGUI_1 , Target_system_1 ).
      SAPGUI ( SAPGUI_2 , Target_system_2 ).
My question is how to run the eCATT in a synchronous RFC calls
PS: I do not want to change the Target_system to the same one in the
above script of ecatt.Because I need to run it in 2 different Target
    systems sometime.
for example, I give a Target_system_3 when run this eCATT
I want the SAPGUI_1 and SAPGUI_2 run the Target_system_3 but not the
    Target_system_1 or Target_system_2 .
Could you please tell me how to make it without the changes in script?

This is the standard option value. Asynchronous are not the standard way and used only for very special purposes.

The commands will be executed in sequence. So each call will be synchronously replayed against TS1 and TS2.
What is you issue with this standard procedure?

  • Use of Adaptive RFC and locking

    Hello,
I am using an adaptive RFC model inside a Web Dynpro Application to maintain data residing on a SAP Enterprise system.
This RFC also sets a lock in order to make sure nobody else tries to change the same data.
I use pessimistic locking which means:
    1. Web Dynpro calls a RFC
    2. The RFC first locks the data then reads the data and returns the result back to Web Dynpro
    3. The user changes the data and presses a save button
    4. Web Dynpro calls the RFC to write and unlock the data
The problem i have is the fact that after locking and reading of the data the RFC is ended and the data is received by the Web Dynpro App. But at the same moment the lock is automatically unlocked because the RFC has ended succesfully.
How can i achieve that the lock is still there at the moment i want to change the data or is this procedure of pessimistic locking not possible?
    Bertil

    Hi,
Whether possible or not : Don't know. Probably not with RFCs.
More importantly, shall you do it? If it is transactional data you are updating , you may wish to consider concurrency issues (what if you locked and came to web dynpro, and user is thinking whether he shall take a coffee break first before pressing the 'Save'. Would you like to keep this record(s) locked and unavailable for the entire duration?)
Normally, you would read the data in the first call, let the user update it on the second screen, and then, when the user presses save, execute in sequence :-
    - try locking the record,
    - if locking is successful, Verify whether the record you read has changed in the meanwhile or not (verify what you have in your workarea(before changes done by user) is the same as in DB, by reading again from the DB)
    - If above check is successful, go ahead with the update else throw an error message to the user to redo the txn
    - unlock, exit
    hope this helps,
    cheers,
    Ajay

    Hi All,
Need help from experts on data transfer using RFC from a non SAP system/database. I have creasted the destination in sm59.
I have created a function module too which has an import parameter as a query and export parameter as an internal table.
No when i test run this function module it returns some entries. But when I call this FM in a program it throws a dump 'rfc_external_abort' .  Here is what the call to FM looks like in my program. Please guide me on this.
    Thanks in advance,

you are telling that you are fetching the data  from non sap system  using RFC function module.. how it is possible..you canot fetch the data from non SAP system using RFC FM alone.. you have to use the concept BAPI.. it will work..
