Add a background image to applet

Hi. Sorry if this question has been asked to death, but i have searched for the best part of the last 2 hours for a solution to my problem which is as follows:
I have been tying to place a background image on an applet for part of a project i have to do at uni. From what i have read this is very simple and i have tried all possiblities to get it working, all to no avail.
The code below is what i have for this:
import java.awt.*;
import java.applet.*;
public class BackImage extends Applet
Image background;
public void init()
background = getImage(getCodeBase(), "Images/back.gif");
setVisible(true);
public void paint(Graphics g)
g.drawImage(background, 0, 0, this);
When using textpad to compile and run this, the command window opens and closes instantly and the applet window doesnt even open. when opening the html file in firefox, all i am greeted with is a white applet area but no error messages in the console.
I have checked and checked again that locations for the image are correct and all seems fine, so i put it to you guys to help me if you could.
thanks

1. Switch from the AWT to Swing.
2. My favorite way it to draw the image with a border. That way I can
decorate an existing container without having to subclass it. Have fun!

    How do I add a background image in an Encore slidehsow? Currently the slideshow has a black background and I would love to be able to change that to an image.

    You can always fire up Premiere (or Photoshop) and create images with whatever background you choose.........

  • Add a Background-Image to an Editable Region

    I would like to add a background image at the bottom of this page (www.theram.com/drink_specials.html). The 'body' editable region is where I would like to add it but I am not sure how to...could you help me out? I don't want this image to show up on all template pages, just this page.
    I added this code in the head section for only this page but obviously it is not correct because I don't see the image.

    In that case add an 'id' to the <th> cell that the drinks table is inserted into (see below - id="bg_1")
    <th width="675" id="bg_1" align="left" valign="top" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" scope="col">
    Then amend your 'body' css selector to #bg_1 (as below)
    #bg_1 {
        background-image:url(/images/backgroundStoli_web.jpg);
        background-repeat: no-repeat;
        background-position: bottom;
    I don't know if /images requires a leading slash infront of it. If the background image does not show up get rid of the leading slash /
    Not sure why youre using a <th></th> table cell to insert the drinks table into. A <th></th> tag is a table header tag.......you should really be using a <td></td> tag.

  • Can anyone suggest me a simple way to add a background image to JFrame ?

    I want to add a background image to JFrame in a simple way rather than overiding the paint method or paintComponent method. Just like adding an image to JButton or JLabel using two or three lines of code. Is it possible ? r there any methods for this purpose ? if so pls give the code.

    JFrame as such does not provide an option to set a background image.
    Extending JPanel, over-riding its paintComponent() and setting it as the contentPane of JFrame is one way of doing it. Though you have to do the overriding, it is not very complex though.

  • Is there a way I can add be background image to my sharepoint site with look and feel?

    Whenever i add any background image with "look and feel" it stretches the image. I've tried modifying the CSS file (in body and tried .ms-backgroundImage setting "background-size:inherit !important;") to fix it, but it doesn't seem to
    have any effect. I there anyway i can add a background image to the master html or css code and get it to not stretch?
    Thanks
    James T.F

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to add background image to sharepoint site with look and feel.
    We can define the Image Url  in the Composed looks (Site Settings > Web Designer Galleries > Composed looks) to add background.
    However, the image will be stretched to fill the viewport at 100%.
    Though we can override the CSS attributes which would allow the image to repeat, but instead I recommend to go the no CSS route and switched the background to a much larger one that would fill the viewport nicely without looking pixelated.

  • Problems to add a background-image to the widget Spry MenuBar!

    With DreamweaverCS4 version 10.0 Build 4117, (italian language) I have tried to add a Spry MenuBar to the one website page.
    But the problem is that I haven't understood where add my property "background-image": url(../immagini/Menu_Button_01.gif).
    In the Application Page of Dreamweaver I have this screenshot:
    But in the Preview Window of InternetExplorer 7 I have this strange behavior:
    The "Menu_Button_01.gif" are a rounded square button made with PhotoshopCS4 and have a transparent background.
    In the IE7 MenuBar doesn't appears as expected, without the transparent background!
    1) How can I do to show my "Menu_Button_01.gif" image as transparent background in the MenuBar?
    2) What is the correct CSS Style Rule to apply the "background-image" property?
    (Example: "ul.MenuBarHorizontal li"? Or "ul.MenuBarHorizontal a"? )
    3) Should I also apply the property: "background-color:transparent"? Where? What is the specific CSS Style Rule?
    I have uploaded my little local WebSite to Rapidshare (100KB):
    http://rapidshare.com/files/370735082/Test_Spry.zip.html
    Please download it to inspect my problem.
    Please response me!
    Horsepower0171.

    For a starter, you should not put your background style rules in the following. The accompanying descriptions will tell you this.
    /* Menu item containers, position children relative to this container and are a fixed width */
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal li
        margin: 0;
        padding: 0;
        list-style-type: none;
        font-size: 100%;
        position: relative;
        text-align: left;
        cursor: pointer;
        width: 116px;
        float: left;
        background-image: url(../immagini/Menu_Button_01.gif);
        background-color: transparent;
    /* Submenus should appear below their parent (top: 0) with a higher z-index, but they are initially off the left side of the screen (-1000em) */
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul
        margin: 0;
        padding: 0;
        list-style-type: none;
        font-size: 100%;
        z-index: 1020;
        cursor: default;
        width: 116px;
        position: absolute;
        left: -1000em;
        background-image: url(../immagini/Menu_Button_01.gif);
        background-color: transparent;
    Then when you apply style rules to
    /* Menu items are a light gray block with padding and no text decoration */
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a
        display: block;
        cursor: pointer;
        padding: 0.5em 0.75em;
        color: #333;
        text-decoration: none;
        background-image: url(../immagini/Menu_Button_01.gif);
        background-color: transparent;
    this will be overridden by the following rules. They replace your image with an arrow image.
    /* Menu items that have a submenu have the class designation MenuBarItemSubmenu and are set to use a background image positioned on the far left (95%) and centered vertically (50%) */
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a.MenuBarItemSubmenu
        background-image: url(SpryMenuBarDown.gif);
        background-repeat: no-repeat;
        background-position: 95% 50%;
    /* Menu items that have a submenu have the class designation MenuBarItemSubmenu and are set to use a background image positioned on the far left (95%) and centered vertically (50%) */
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul a.MenuBarItemSubmenu
        background-image: url(SpryMenuBarRight.gif);
        background-repeat: no-repeat;
        background-position: 95% 50%;
    /* Menu items that are open with submenus have the class designation MenuBarItemSubmenuHover and are set to use a "hover" background image positioned on the far left (95%) and centered vertically (50%) */
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a.MenuBarItemSubmenuHover
        background-image: url(SpryMenuBarDownHover.gif);
        background-repeat: no-repeat;
        background-position: 95% 50%;
    /* Menu items that are open with submenus have the class designation MenuBarItemSubmenuHover and are set to use a "hover" background image positioned on the far left (95%) and centered vertically (50%) */
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul a.MenuBarItemSubmenuHover
        background-image: url(SpryMenuBarRightHover.gif);
        background-repeat: no-repeat;
        background-position: 95% 50%;
    There are one of two solutions
    If you do not want and arrow, simply set background to none in the above four instances.
    If you do want an arrow, include a down arrow image in a second Menu_Button_01.gif image called Menu_Button_01_DownArrow.gif or similar as well as a third one for your right arrow image.
    I hope this helps.

  • Can u add a background image to a 3D annotation?

    I like many others here are interested in 3D in web pages and to do so I would need to at times add background images to 3D annotations within the acrobat 3D embed to match the html page. Is this possible?
    -Thanks!

    You can make the 3D annotation background transparent (it's an option on the config menu when you create a 3Dannot) and whatever's in the background on your PDF will show through, so you can match up with your page. You need to jiggle a bit if you're showing a pre-activation poster image though.

  • How to add different background image for submenu items???

    Hi all,
    I'm pretty new to web design and CSS in particular. Here's my problem...
    I've got a Spry horizontal menu bar (untouched as yet), and I want to have a different background image for my submenu items than that of my menu items. From searching the internet I think that I need to apply a class to the submenu item (please correct me if I am wrong).
    How would I go about doing this and how would I assign the class to just the submenu items?
    Also ideally I want to have my first and last menu items to have rounded corners on one side (therefore making a rounded edge menu bar), is it possible to have a different background image for individual menu items? If so, how?
    Really appreciate any help!

    Thanks for the link! I've managed to sort the background issue, and it seems to be working fine!
    Just one little issue left to tackle...
    I want my text to be centered in my top menu items BUT aligned left in my drop down menu items. I have managed this but the text hugs the left hand side. I've tried adding a little margin to the left but that doesn't seem to affect anything???
    Here's my CSS... Any ideas which class I should be targeting or why adding the margin isn't working would save my tearing the rest of my hair out! thanks! (screenshot attached).

  • Add static background image to all frames of gif animation

    First, I'm not a fireworks regular. I use it when I have to to get something done (mostly web optimazations). I would use it more but, frankly in many cases the UI is counter intuitive to everything else adobe makes.
    Here is my problem...
    I need to add (not replace) a static background to ALL existing frames(states) in a fireworks gif animation (with alpha) , the end product gif will be an element in the Edge web animation...details
    I have an animated seq of a rotating object that was created in 3ds max and rendered as a png seq with alpha.
    I opened the SEQ "as animation" in fireworks. I set the frame rate. It plays fine. So far so good....
    I imported an image that I want to be BEHIND the animated seq on ALL frames. I tried puting it on a sub layer behind, i tried puting it on it's own layer behind, but it ONLY shows on the first frame (state).
    I tried using "share with all states" but it replaces the SEQ images already on the "states" instead of adding it behind them like in the arrangement of the layers.
    So first, can this be done and if so how?
    Second, why is this process so counter intuitive in fireworks? I mean if a layer is behind something then it should be a simple button click or check box etc to say "show on all frames (states)", you know like any other product adobe makes. Even "image ready" made more sense than this.  My thought process was that since I needed to end up in fireworks to create and optimize the gif that i should be able to put it together there also but it's turning out to be a lot harder than it should. I guess I can just composite my elements in AE (which is a piece of cake compared to fireworks) and then render another SEQ that I import to fireworks to create the optimized gif. While I'm a fan of the "creative suite" concept, one of my biggest complaints about the "suite" is the lack of master oversite so the common functions, keyboard shortcuts, and fundimental UI concepts are consitant accross all the apps so it functions as a "suite" and not just a collection of seperate applications. I know that demanding that all applications follow certian rules would slow development, in the long run it would make it a lot easier for the end user to spend more time being "creative" and less time trying to figure out why something doesn't work like it does in all the other apps. Just my $.02
    Thanks for any help and or explaination
    Joel H

    Thanks for the response.
    You know I tried that exact thing the only difference being I didn't change the layer names. So not naming the layers would keep that from working ?? Also as you eluded to draging layers to position them in fireworks is a delicate operation. It always seems to take 2 or 3 times to get it to drop where you want it. I named the layers and it works as you said.  Unfortunately I was really pressed for time so I had already given up on fireworks and just composited the SEQ with the BG layer in AE and kicked out another PNG SEQ and then open that "as animation" in Fireworks and then optimized and exported as a gif. So there are allways several ways to do things.
    Thanks again,
    Joel H

    Hello,
    It will be more specific if you could share the screenshot of that error with us.
    In addition, if this issue is mainly related to the BackGroundimage property, you could consider using the following suggestion.
    We could click our project to expand the nodes and click "InitializeComponent()" to navigate to its desiginer code.
    Then check whether there is a line which has " Me.BackgroundImage =", remove that line and then remove the resource file with the following step.
    Project property->Resources->Switch "Files" or "Images" to see where you have setted for that image file, find it and remove it.
    Then save all your changes to see whether it's OK.
    Regards,
    Carl

  • Add BackGround image to TextField control

    Hi,
    i'm using spark list that contains a few TextField controls. how can i add a background image to text field?
    i've tried adding it with the htmlText property but i can i combine it with the current htmlText that contains the current text represented in the control?

    You can add a background image for the whole page, but not for an individual portlet.

    you can use css to customize skin of af:document. something similar to this
    af|document
      background-image: url("../../img/Bluehills.jpg");
    body {
      background: url("/img/body_bg.gif") repeat-x #E0E0E0;
    }if you are using Jdev release 2 then you can simply do this from Skin editor check this link for more info http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E18941_01/tutorials/jdtut_11r2_83/jdtut_11r2_83.html

    The interactive report is used to show notes added for an individual in the application.

    Is it possible to add a background image to the each cell in the interactive report
    Thanks
