Add GPS and keep Metadata

I use Lightroom 1.4.1 (WinXP) to import photos from my CF cards and then add GeoTag data later, without losing metadata. My process has a few steps and is as follows:
Note: Assumes photos are in Lightroom and may or may not have metadata. I have only tried this with Nikon raw .NEF files. Not sure how this will work for file formats that Lightroom embeds directly rather than using .xmp
1. In Lightroom select files you are going to GeoTag and in Metadata menu select Save Metadata to files. Since I am working with raw that has a proprietary file format it creates a .xmp sidecar file for each photo.
2. Probably a good idea to exit Lightroom, after it has finished writing Metadata.
3. GeoTag photos ( I use Microsoft Pro Photo Tool w/ Nikon Raw Codec installed to embed GPS in .NEF files, but expect other tools that embed GPS data into photo files will work fine.)
4. Change modify date/time stamp for each .xmp file. Need a utility (like File Renamer Basic, its free) that will change file modified time stamp of the .xmp files to current time. Seems Lightroom will not read file if it has the same date/time as when Lightroom wrote it. Without this step it seems it reads the raw files metadata and clears Lightrooms database of other metadata for that photo.
5. In Lightroom select files you GeoTagged and in Metadata menu select Read Metadata from files. Lightroom sees different date/time for both .raw and .xmp and so reads each back in.
6. Should now have GPS data for each photo along with its Lightroom created Metadata.

The NEF codec might be the only one that works with the Pro Photo Tools. The Canon CR2 codec appears to save the geotag info, but Lightroom won't recognize it when I import (either keeping the CR2 or converting to DNG).
The new Adobe DNG codec for WIC won't even allow the Pro Photo Tools to save the modified metadata. I get a very unspecific error, but can't find any sort of error log to get any additional details.

  • Apple: Please add GPS and non-Nike workout apps to Nano

    Apple,
I've bought three earlier incarnations of the Nano, but stopped upgrading after the 4th gen, when the product lost versatility. Among other things, please consider adding GPS capability and the ability to load non-Nike workout apps such as Runkeeper and Edomondo to the Nano. 64 GB would be nice too.
    Thanks.

To do what you want the Nano would be the size of an ...iPod Touch. Maybe in 3 to 4 years they could get a functional one down to that size.
The 6th Generation Nano added a much smaller form factor, a touch screen and a clip. The 7th Generation added Bluetooth (a welcome addition for me), added back video and still has built in Nike +.
The iPod Touch is lighter and a bit smaller than the iPhone, you might give it a look. There would be no way to squeeze the features you want into the Nano form factor due to the size of battery you would need.
But you can tell Apple what you are dreaming of: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipodnano.html

  • How to add gps position in metadata

Before with iphoto we had the possibility to add a position (in a map)  for each photo who didn't have one.
I didn't find this option in photo.
i'have read that this option doesn't existe, but ... is it real ?
i can't find that, maybe in an update ?   somebody know something about this ?

OMG! There we go... find a 3rd app to add the location before importing them?!?!!
If you did not uninstall iPhoto, you can import new photos to iPhoto first, add places, batch change titles and captions, then export to a folder and inmport to Photos.
Or use the free exiftool, if you like the Terminal.
    See:  http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/exiftool_pod.html#geotagging_exampl es
    To install exiftool: http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/%7Ephil/exiftool/install.html
Other convenient apps are Jetphoto Studio, Geotagalog, there are many more ..
I use Jetphoto Studio, because it lets me use the Garmin tracks in a convenient way, but it is not free.

  • Add WAV folders to library from external hard drive and keep them organized

My PC died, so I removed the second hard drive containing my iTunes library - which is all in WAV and Apple Lossless formats - and installed it in an external drive case. I want to keep that library stored on the external drive but add it to the iTunes library on the new PC (which is a laptop and doesn't have enough drive space). I used the iTunes "Add Folder to Library" command, and added the top level folder ("My Music"). I have iTunes set to NOT copy files when adding to the library, but it is set to keep iTunes Music Folder organized.
iTunes added all of the songs, but only organized (kept the artist, album and other metadata) the Apple Lossless songs. All the WAV files have song titles, but no artist or album information. There are too many songs to manually add that information (about 2500). Is there a way to add and keep that information, or automate the tagging process? I know that WAV files don't have ID3 tags, but I hoped that since there were organized in iTunes by the old PC that all the information would transfer through some miracle.
One more piece of information: I do not have the iTunes data files (preference files? - the files that keep track of playlists, ratings, etc.) that are stored on the C: drive of the old PC.

You can elect to have the files left where they are when you import. See
    in the import pane.
However having said that Aperture will not be happy having the original files stored  voulme that is formatted FAT.
Also how is the windows formatted drive connected to the Mac? Direct or over the network?
If its a network drive you'll have additional problems. If it is directly connected to the Mac why not just format it for the Mac?

  • How to transfer my iTunes Library from a Mac to a PC and keep all the Metadata?

I need to transfer my music library from my macbook to a desktop PC running Windows 7. I have tried using Home Sharing as well as transfering the whole iTunes folder over using an external hard drive. Neither attempt kept all my metadata. Is there any way to recreate my library on a Windows machine and keep the metadata?

Moving a library: Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its sub-folders and files) intact to the other drive.  Hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) and open iTunes.  At the prompt to create or choose a library choose the copied iTunes folder.
If this is to a new computer and you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Are you getting any messages about date and time.
Have you tried restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Are you connected to the network correctly.

I have the same problem with lectures slides.
Furthermore, sometimes the text box, when doube-clicking, turns  the text into a one-liner. Causing the text box to sometimes get 3. times wider than the pdf itself.

By pressing [cmd + I] the Inspector opens up and clicking on the rightmost tab 'Annotations' you should be able find those Annotations again. I do this regularly to find the empty annotations I accidentally create while clicking through slides.

    ananya

    Hey Ananya,
I believe what you want to do is possible, but it will not be
easy.  If you want to add a scroll bar that will scroll the graph
back and forth but keep the axis set, you would want to add a
horizontal or vertical scrollbar.  Then you would create an event
handler for the scroll event.  You would have to manually plot
different data within this scroll event.  Unfortunately, there is
not really a built in way to do this with the Measurement Studio plot
    control.

I am making a book and only have 23 pages done.  I keep hitting the plus sign to add pages and no knew pages appear.  Help

Assuming you have iPhoto 9 (11) give this a try: make a temporary, backup copy of the library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Since only one option can be run at a time start with #3 followed by #4 and #1 as needed.
3 - try adding a page after each fix.

  • I have working Netgear network. Want to add new Time Capsule and run 2nd network for new apple TV and Imac, and keep the netgear network for my PC and Canon printer.

I have working Netgear N600 dual band router network. The existing network has an XP netbook PC, canon printer, 2 Iphones, Epson Air printer, an Ipad, 3 roku boxes, backup drive. Just bought a new Apple TV box, and time capsule 2T.  I have an IMac on order but don't have it here yet.
My goal is to add new Time Capsule and create 2nd "apple" network for new apple TV, Iphones, Ipad, Epson Air printer and new Imac, and keep the netgear network for my PC, Roku TV boxes, and Canon printer and backup drive.
The Netgear router, the time capsule and new IMac will be on the same desktop, I dont need to backup my netbook PC to time capsule.
    Where do I start?
Which device connects to my modem first, the TC2 or the Netgear?
Is it best wait for the Imac before starting or can the TC2 be set up from my Ipad or PC?
    Thanks.

    It is pretty simple..
Setup the TC in bridge and plug it into the Netgear.. I would leave the netgear as the main router for now, although in the future you can swap things around. The netgear firmware may have issues with bonjour and airplay/airprint?? Does your ipad print ok now?
You can setup the TC using Mac, PC (at least up to win7) or iOS.. they all have airport utility available.
Bridge mode is set differently depending on the version of the utility. This is v5 and how the windows one will look (at least similar to).
    v6 will be as
With the TC in bridge you will still create a wireless network.. and give it a different name from the netgear.. then all the apple devices can connect to it. Use ethernet rather than wireless if the imac is on the desktop with it. Much faster and better for using Time Machine backups.
If you run into any issues.. just post the particular issue. It will take a bit of getting used to, but isn't hard.

MacKeeper, being poorly written, acts like highly invasive malware* that can de-stablize your operating system. It is also unethically marketed and a rip-off, offering nothing that is not available for free.. Positive reviews of it are known to have been paid for by the developers, Zeobit.
Further opinion on it and how to uninstall MacKeeper malware:
    http://applehelpwriter.com/2011/09/21/how-to-uninstall-mackeeper-malware/
Do NOT download or use the ‘MacKeeper uninstaller’ from the Zeobit site, as this will cause even more damage to your operating system.

  • Moving movie files from internal to external and keeping the metadata

    I tried following this advice
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17332550#17332550
but it does not work on my osx lion. When I right click, I'm either in Finder or, if I right click Movies (on the left hand column of iTunes) I get a drop down menu to export a .txt file.
I need to put my movies (only) from the internal iMac HD to an external and keep all the metadata.
    Any suggestions?

Hi Robert - welcome to the forum, and to the Apple MacIntosh world!
Just a suggestion - if you have a dv (tape) video-camera, then you can record from your VCR tapes, directly onto a camera-tape, and thence into iMovie, without further loss of quality. Should you not have such a camera, but are keen to do movie editing using iMovie, then that should be an essential Christmas present to yourself!

Thank you for replying. Unfortunately, I already did all of these things. As you can see from the below screenshot, the language is already set. Also, this screenshot was taken in Safe Mode, so NoScript is not enabled. About:accounts still says I need to enable cookies for some reason. So, this solution didn't work....
