Add Instance variable

1.
Can we add instance variables to an existing standard agent
e.g. can we edit the metadata file for an UNIX host (default agent installation which OEM provides) and add owr own variable ?
2.
How do we edit and add the values under "Target Properties" for each agent. Couldn't find a Save button...The following properties look empty and just wondering how do we add them ?

Thank you

I dont understant what you say 'instance variables'
Provide me what are your problem or what do you need
Regards
PD: The target properties of a host or database can edit with grid control console or if you edit the targets.xml file
the agent properties also can edit if you modify the emd.properties

  • How to use an BPM Instance Variable in JSP page

    Hi All,
    I am using the JSP Presentation, but i don't know how to use an Instance variable in JSP page, that instance already declared in the process. And Can u explain the syntax that to include the JS file into jsp page
    Regards

    Hi Mariano,
    I'm using JSP presentation too. In "Interactive Component Call" active i'm using "Use JSP presentation", but i only can define one instance variable, i need to add more instance variables. In "Advanced" option of this task, i have the argument mapping .. but i don't understand how to use it.
    I have a instance variable called "genders" of the type String[Int] (Associative Array) and i'm mapping this instance variable in "Arguments Show In" option of the advanced option of JSP presentation. In JSP presentation i have the code:
    <select <f:fieldName att="person.gender"/>>
                   <c:forEach var="gender" begin="0" items="${genders}" varStatus="status">
                        <c:choose>
                             <c:when test="${person.gender == gender}">
                                  <option value="<c:out value="${gender}"/>" selected="true"><c:out value="${gender}"/></option>
                             </c:when>
                             <c:otherwise>
                                  <option value="<c:out value="${gender}"/>"><c:out value="${gender}"/></option>
                             </c:otherwise>
                        </c:choose>
                   </c:forEach>
              </select>And in my screenflow i have the code:
    genders[0] = "Male"
    genders[1] = "Female"But when i run my application, i have the error: "The task could not be successfully executed. Reason: 'java.lang.ClassCastException: java.lang.Integer'."
    What's the problem?

       The SupportMatrix class provides static variables and methods to simplify
       the determination of whether or not a given attribute is supported for a
       certain object type (queue manager, channel, etc.), depending on the version
       and platform of the queue manager to which it belongs.
       The SupportMatrix class may not be instantiated. Its constructor is private.
       An instance of the class is created internally in the static initializer so
       that the XML parsing methods are available.
       A corresponding XML document, SupportMatrix.xml, is parsed to create the various
       HashMaps which contain the version/platform dependency information. A number of
       inner classes are used to represent the various elements of the XML matrix
       definition.
       Here's a sample document:
       <!-- The supportmatrix tag opens the document -->
       <supportmatrix>
         <!-- Objects are keyed by classid. "1" is the classid of a queue manager object. -->
         <object classid="1">
           <!-- Versions group attributes according to the queue manager version where they
                were introduced. The "base" cmdlevel encompasses all versions up to 5.1. -->
           <version cmdlevel="base">
             <!-- Attributes are defined by the attr tag. -->
             <attr id="MQCA_Q_MGR_NAME">
               <!-- Support elements define the platform-specific requirements for an attribute. -->
               <support platforms="UNIX,WINDOWS,OS400,VMS,NSK" maxlen="48" type="MQCFST"/>
               <support platforms="MVS" maxlen="4" type="MQCFST"/>
             </attr>
             <attr id="MQCA_Q_MGR_DESC">
               <!-- Specific attribute characteristics, most notably maximum len for string parms,
                    are defined in the support element. As shown in the following example, it may
                    apply to all platforms. -->
               <support platforms="all" maxlen="64" type="MQCFST"/>
             </attr>
             <!-- Support elements are optional. -->
             <attr id="MQIA_PLATFORM"/>
             <attr id="MQIA_COMMAND_LEVEL"/>
           </version>
           <!-- The version element may 'include' other versions. Note that object elements
                may also refer to other objects via the 'include' parm of the object tag.
                This is to allow common attributes (especially for queues and channels) to
                be shared by multiple definitions in order to reduce some of the
                redundancy. -->
           <version cmdlevel="520" include="base">
           </version>
         </object>
       </supportmatrix>
       The inner classes, and their hierarchical relationships are as follows:
         SupportObject - corresponds to the <object> element. Stored in a static HashMap, and
                         keyed by classid.
           VersionObject - corresponds to the <version> element. Stored in a HashMap instance
                           variable of the SupportObject class, keyed by cmdlevel.
             AttributeObject - corresponds to the <attr> element. Stored in a HashMap instance
                               variable of the VersionObject class, keyed by attribute name.
               PlatformObject - corresponds to the <support> element. Stored in HashMaps belonging
                                to the AttributeObjects, keyed by platform. A single PlatformObject
                                instance is created when the support tag is encountered. The
                                "platforms" attribute of the support element is then processed. For
                                each platform in the comma-delimited list, an entry is added to the
                                collection of PlatformObjects. This is to greatly simplify later
                                lookups.
       In order to support the 'include' feature of object and version elements, certain
       functions are recursive. If the attribute to be validated is not found for the passed
       cmdlevel, the 'parent' VersionObject is consulted by means of the 'include' value. If
       the chain of VersionObjects has been exhausted and the attribute in question has still not
       been located, the next SupportObject in the chain is consulted in a similar fashion.

    Are you the one who commented out the code you're looking for ?//String desc = StringFactory.getString(attributes.getValue("desc"));You just have to modify you AttributeObject class to hold a new field : String description. And then, it's up to you to create a new constructor or a new setter method.
    Btw, this is not a Swing related question.

  • Null Instance Variables on Screenflow

    Hi,
    I have some problems with instance variable of type BPM Objects in a Screenflow.
    I always create automatic processes without user interaction, and on server side I have seen that it's not necessary to instantiate an instance variable. Moreover if within a method I write (I use the Java style syntax):
    String a;
    a.toString(); // just to call a method on a not-instantiated variable
    everything works correctly, the "a" variable is automatically instantiated.
    But it seems that in an automatic activity of a Screenflow it's different, I need to do the new also for Instance Variables.
    Then, in the Screenflow I have an Instance Variable myObject of type MyObject that is a BPM Object. This object has an attribute myStrings that is an array of String.
    To instantiate the instance variable I can write:
    myObject = new MyObject();
    But then I get a java.lang.*NullPointerException* when I call the extend method of its attribute myStrings to add a string.
    Do you agree with me that on the Screenflow code it's necessary to instantiate the variables?
    How can I instantiate an Array of String?
    Thank you.

    Thanks Daniel, I'm using ALBPM 6.0,
    i know the line where I get the exception, I have a logMessage before and after each line of code, and then in the exception stack there is the PBL Method line indicated:
    Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException
         at xobject.Fuego__AutoGen__Screenflows__.__ScreenflowConJsp.automatic1(__ScreenflowConJsp.xcdl:*19*)
    19 is the code line where I get the exception. In this line I have this:
    myObject.myStrings.extend(arg1 : a);
    but the null object is not the array, it's myObject that is an Instance Variable.
    In ALBPM60_Studio_ReferenceGuide at chapter Programming Styles paragraph Java Programming Style there is:
    This style emulates Java syntax and adds several features to match PBL expressions. These added features include:
    • Output arguments
    • Input and display statements
    • Variable auto-initialization
    In fact in my previuos BPM projects I have seen that is not necessary to istantiate the variables, both for Instance Variable and local variable declared within a method. In my previous post I did an example:
    String a;
    a.toString();
    Usually this causes an Exception, but not in ALBPM methods.
    My main question is: is it possible that this is true just for Server side methods and not for Screenflow methods? Because in my case I need to instantiate every Instance Variable of my Screenflow (for example the myObject instance variable) in an Automatic Activity I have put as first Activity of the flow.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Design question: When to use instance variables

    Looking for best practice/design advise.
    I am working my way through an exercise where I convert a zip code to a postal barcode (and back), validate the format, and validate/generate a check digit. My code works fine. I posted comments and methods below for reference. In addition to the book I am using, I also read http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/java/javaOO/classvars.html.
    My question is: In designing this class, should I have defined instance variables to hold the generated zipcode, barcode, and checkdigit and then used getter methods to get the zipcode or barcode?
    I planned on creating a user interface to ask for a zipcode or barcode and present a conversion to the user. The only methods that need to be called are "convertBarcodeToZipcode" and "convertZipcodeToBarcode". All the other methods are utility methods. The strings that are returned by these two methods are presented to the user.
    I could, easily enough, create and populate instance variables, but would I keep the return statements as well or remove them?
    Thanks, Mike
    ps: I am self-learning java, so I don't have an instructor to ask. :)
    public class PostalBarCode {

        public int calculateCheckDigitFromBarcode(String theBarcode) {}
         * Validate the format of the barcode.
         * Should be 6 blocks of 5 symbols each.
         * Also check if frame bars are present and strip them.
         * @param theBarcode
         * @return true for proper format, false for improper format
        public boolean validateBarcodeFormat (String theBarcode){}
        private  ArrayList<String> barcodeUnits = new ArrayList<String>();
    }

    These are just my two cents. The various methods that determine whether something is a zip or bar code can easily remain static. After all, you probably don't want to create an instance and then call something like isValid(), although you could do so. The various other methods could easily be instance methods. You could have a toZipCode() or toBarCode() method in each object to convert from one to the other. I would personally throw something like ValidationException rather than returning -1 for your various check-digit methods.

  • Problem in recognising instance variables declared in the class

    Hi all,
    I am trying to deploy an Servlet desiged in WebObjects5.1 application server on application on Iplanet Application server 6.5
    Back ground: All of you might be aware that WebObjects5.1 is an J2ee compliant application server. When an application is designed in WebObjects, it creates a WAR file which can be deployed on any J2ee complaint application server.
    I tried to create such application in WebObjects and tried to deploy on IplanetApplication server6.5(running on Windows using IIS web server).
    I am able to successfully deploy the application. But inorder to do this i had to manually add ias-Web.xml file to the war file generated( gave some arbitrary global id). The aplication just consists some string displaying hello world.
    Now when i try to deploy an application which has some instance variables, the instance variables are not getting recognised. This application works fine on WebObjects5.1. But variables are not getting recognised when deployed iplanet application server
    Has any one faced such kind of problem earlier? If yes please help me out
    Thanks
    Venkatesh

    Hi,
    Please send me your servlet code and war file.
    Thanks

  • Inheritance - instance variable initialization

    Hi all.
    I have a question regarding inherited instance variables.
    class Animal {
       int weight;
       int age = 10;
    class Dog extends Animal {
       String name;
    class Test {
       public static void main(String[] args) {
          new Dog();
    }This is just an arbitrary code example.
    When new Dog() is invoked, I understand that it's instance variable "name" is give the default
    type value of null before Dog's default constructor's call to super() is invoked.But Im a little perplexed about
    Animals instance variables. I assume that like Dog, Animals instance variables are given their default type values
    of 0 & 0 respectively, before Animals invocation of super(); What im unclear about is that at the point that weight and age are given their default type values, are Dog's inherited weight and age variables set to 0 aswell at that exact moment? Or are Dog's inherited weight and age variables only assigned their values after Animals constructor fully completes because initialization values are only assigned to a classes instance variables after it's call to super().
    Many thanks & best regards.

    :-S
    Kind regardsbut if you add the "print" statement in animal constructor, you can easily see what happened to the attributes of Dog ; that s the trick to print "before" super()You can never add a print before super(). It's a rule of thumb, super() and this() must always be the first statements
    in a constructor, whether added implicitly by the compiler or not. In this case there are 2 default constructors (inserted by the compiler), each with a super() invocation. Even if i added them myself and tried to print before super(), the compiler would complain.
    Thanks for the help & regards.you didn't understand what i meant ; take a look at that:
    class Animal {
       int weight;
       int age = 10;
       public Animal() {
           Dog thisAsADog = (Dog) this;
          System.out.println(thisAsADog.name);
          System.out.println(thisAsADog.x);
    class Dog extends Animal {
       String name;
       int x = 10;
    public class Test {
       public static void main(String[] args) {
          new Dog();

  • Inheritance and private instance variables

    I've been reading a Java book. It says you should normally make your instance variables private and use getter/setter methods on them, but if you create a superclass, you have to make those variables public (or default?) to inherit them in the subclasses, right? And you can't redefine the variables as private in the subclass, can you?
    I'm a little confused on this point. Thanks for any light anyone could shed on this.

          name=n;
       public String getName()

             System.out.println("I don't have a name...but \"Bow Wow!\"");
    public class Cat extends Animal
       public void makeSound()
          if (getName() != null)
             System.out.println(getName()+" says, \"Meow!\"");
          else
             System.out.println("I have no name...but, \"Meow!\"");

            Animal d = new Dog();
            Animal c = new Cat();
            d.setName("Fido");
            c.setName("Fluffy");
            animals.add(d);
            animals.add(c);
            for (Animal a : animals)
                a.makeSound();
    }The "name" instance variable is private, but I can get at it through the getter/setter methods of the superclass, which are public. I should NOT be able to say something like...
    d.name="Fido";Right?

  • Wrapper classes/ instance variables&methods

    can anyone provide me additional information on the wrapper classes.
    In addition, could someone please provide an explination of the- instance and class (variables+methods)

    Every primitive class has a wrapper class e.g.
    int - Integer
    float - Float
    long - Long
    char - Character
    etc. When a primitive is wrapped it becomes an object and immutable. Primitives are generally wrapped (either to make them immutable) or to be able to add them to the collections framework(sets, maps, lists which can only take objects, not primitives).
    An instance variable is a variable that each copy of the object you create contains, as is an instance method. Each instance you create (each copy of the object) contains its own copy of the variable and method.
    A class variable and method means that no matter how many objects you create, there will be one and only one copy of the variable and method.
    Hope this helps. Also see the java tutorial.

  • Do synthesized instance variables work in iPhone SDK?

    I tried using Obj-C properties to synthesize not only the accessor methods, but also the instance variable. I ended up with an error saying something like "...must explicitly name an ivar...".
    I was under the impression the iPhone ran the modern (64-bit) Objective-C runtime. I'm using xCode 3.x and iPhone SDK 2.2. Are synthesized instance variables not supported, or do I need to change some xCode/project configuration settings to activate this support (I'd really like to use it)?
    Does the fact that I'm linking to the Sen Test Kit Framework, or running on a relatively old Intel MacBook Pro cause this problem? If the 2.2 SDK does not support synthesized instance variables, does iPhone SDK 3.0 beta support them?
    Note that I would need the synthesized ivar support to work on the iPhone simulator too (obviously) so that I can do testing. Hopefully the iPhone simulator supports the modern Obj-C 2.0 runtime.
    Thank You,
    Eric

    A. I don't see that anywhere in the Objective-C 2.0 language specification, so I don't believe this has anything to do with the iPhone SDK.
    B. I don't see any point in adding such a thing to the language as it accomplishes nothing that could not be handled with a standard ivar declaration.
    This sounds like a feature you imagined.
    Yeah, right I imagined it. Get a clue, will you?
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/ObjectiveC/Articles/oc Properties.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP30001163-CH17-SW3
    In general the behavior of properties is identical on all runtimes (see Runtime Versions and Platforms in Objective-C 2.0 Runtime Programming Guide). There is one key difference: the modern runtime supports instance variable synthesis whereas the legacy runtime does not.
    For @synthesize to work in the legacy runtime, you must either provide an instance variable with the same name and compatible type of the property or specify another existing instance variable in the @synthesize statement. With the modern runtime, if you do not provide an instance variable, the compiler adds one for you. For example, given the following class declaration and implementation:
    @interface MyClass : NSObject {
    float sameName;
    float otherName;
    @property float sameName;
    @property float differentName;
    @property float noDeclaredIvar;
    @end
    @implementation MyClass
    @synthesize sameName;
    @synthesize differentName=otherName;
    @synthesize noDeclaredIvar;
    @end
    the compiler for the legacy runtime would generate an error at @synthesize noDeclaredIvar; whereas the compiler for the modern runtime would add an instance variable to represent noDeclaredIvar.

  • Pageflow instance variables null.

    Hello BEA Experts,
    Weblogic documentation states that pageflow can be used to store data that on a per user per session basis , however I have a instance variable string that is being set in the begin action which is called in the beginning of the pagelow.
    Later on another action with in the pageflow is called via a hyperlink , inside this action the string variable that was set in the begin action is returning null.
    I am surpised as to why Workshop is showing this behaviour.
    I use workshop version 8.1.4.
    Any comments and suggestions towards resolving this issue would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Bob,
    This could be because the current pageflow in the session was replaced with another instance. This can happen if you accessed another pageflow or a nested PF during the flow.
    You can check it by turning on the debug. Create a file debug.properties and add the entries below into it and save the file in the domain folder.
    com.bea.wlw.netui.pageflow.FlowControllerFactory: on com.bea.wlw.netui.pageflow.FlowController: on com.bea.wlw.netui.pageflow.PageFlowUtils: on com.bea.wlw.netui.pageflow.PageFlowStack: on
    Restart the server and test the jpf. The output of the debug goes to stdOut of the server.

  • When can I make instance variables public?

    I noticed that some of the in-built Java classes have public instance variables, for example in Rectangle the variables x, y, width and height are all directly accessible from outside. When is it okay to make public instance variables? Is it when they are primitive types? I thought maybe it is when they are final variables - but that can't be the case because you can directly modify the Rectangle's public instance variables.
    I've always used getter and setter methods in my objects because I was told "making instance variables public is bad". But obviously this isn't necessarily the case (unless the guys at Java are bad programmers). I think directly accessing the instance variables makes for much neater and more readable code. Is there any convention or best-practise guidelines on when I can or can not make them public?
    P.S. I also just "don't get" why you can't make them public if you're just going to provide a getter and setter method anyway... what's the difference? I suppose the theory is that the setter method should do some checking to make sure the input is valid. But what if the setter method just accepts -anything- of the appropriate type (accepts any Rectangle, for example)? What's the use of hiding the instance variables?
    teach me.
    Thanks. ;-)

    For the most part, it is true that making instance member variables other than private is not a good idea. This concept, known in OO circles as "information hiding", typically allows the greatest flexibility in internal implementation of a class, since you can change the internal structure of the class without affecting the clients that use the class.
    Let me add that Sun's programmers are a team, and teams have members of differing capabilities.
    It is also true that there may be cases where exposing instance variables is unlikely to cause problems. Simple classes, or very stable classes that will not change are some examples, but not all.
    Following a guideline blindly is not a good idea either. You need to evaluate each instance in which you decide you might want to deviate from "good programming practices". Still, best practices are best practices for a reason. It is best to understand them, and then decide if you can violate them.
    For my own part, I don't think it is "neater" to expose such variables, and I have personally had to deal with situations where a change in a class's internal structure was extremely painful because the original developer chose to make all his instance variables public.

  • Parsing XML and Storing values in instance variable

    hi,
    i'm new to XML.
    here i'm trying to parse an XML and store their element data to the instance variable.
    in my main method i'm tried to print the instance variable. but it shows "" (ie it print nothing ).
    i know the reason, its becas of the the endElement() event generated and it invokes the characters() and assigns "" to the instance variable.
    my main perspective is to store the element data in instance variable.
    thanks in advance.

    <telephone>123456</telephone>
    <fax>123155</fax>
    </company>
    </coyprofile_result>

    I believe that the problem has to do with the value you assign to ctelement. You are assigning the value of localName to ctElement, however for the element: <name>...</name> the localname is empty string i.e. "", but qName equals "name". Because you are assigning empty string to ctElement, when you do the comparison in characters of ctElement to "name" it will always be false. So in startElement change it to ctElement = qName; Try it and see if it works. I have produced similar programs and it works for me.
    Hope this helps.

    PERNR   TEXT     ACTION  [ TITLES OF FIELDS ].THEN
    TOTAL ERROR RECORDS  '900'.
    THEN THE CORRESPONDING FIELDS DATA SHOULD BE DISPLAYED.
    HELP ME.
    THANKS IN ADVANCE.

    Hi
    Thanks Ajeet.
    The scenario is that I have to create a formula (contract end date-current date) and have to display the result using exeption to highlight the contracts ending in 30-60 days.
    The problem is that the info provider does not have any infoobject for date(only valid to and validity start date)
    I have created a formula variable on valid to date using replacement path. But dont have any variable to use for current date.
    The only time char in the cube is Fiscal yera variant.
    How should I go futher creating such formula? Shall I user customer exit variable? But I dont have any date char to create on.
    Can you shed some light on this problem
    Thanks

  • How do I add a variable into an object as xml

    I have a xml document with 2 protection order numbers. I want to get the information for one of them which is **protectionOrderNumber="1400042"**. I would like to add strPoNumber variable to the object objXmlCaseDoc. Inside this object is the xml
    that was read and put inside the object. I want at the beginning of the xml code inside the objXmlCaseDoc to add the protectionOrderNumber at the end of the first line. This should be added at the beginning of the xml document. In my object (objXmlCaseDoc)
    there is no variable strPoNumber. This is why I want to add it at the top. The object has xml document in it.
    It should look like this:
    <Integration xmlns:msxsl="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:xslt" xmlns:tsg="http://tsgweb.com" xmlns:IXML="http://tsgweb.com" xmlns:CMCodeQueryHelper="urn:CMCodeQueryHelper" protectionOrderNumber="1400042">
    My vb code: I have the variable strPoNumber and the object where the xml document is. Object name is objXmlCaseDoc
    I want to add the line of code where I have comment Tranform case information into the output format near the bottom of the code.
