Add user to Netinfo database with Applescript

Does anyone have an example Applescript that would allow us to add a user to the local Netinfo Database on a computer? We would like to push this to a lab of computers to add a new local user to all computers at once.

See this article for some Terminal commands which can be used. To run these from an AppleScript, use code such as:
set the_password to "password"
do shell script "nicl . -create /users/username" password the_password with administrator privileges
continuing the code for the rest of the commands in step 4 the article modified as needed. If you aren't creating a group, skip the line to append the user to the group and remove the group name from the chmod. The passwd command is interactive and cannot be executed from within AppleScript.

User Access to database with BusinessObjects credential

Hello to everyone,
I have ODBC connections to my databases with this user: admin; then I have my universes and their connections with ODBC connections as data source. In every universe connection I set authentication mode as "Use BusinessObjects Credential Mapping", but the access to the database is always as admin, despite I expect an access with BusinessObject users.
If I remove userid and password from the ODBC connection, the universe connections works fine and the test is ok, but when I refresh the report I get this error:
A database error occured. The database error text is: [Informix][Informix ODBC Driver][Informix]Incorrect password or user SYSTEM@::ffff:192.168.8.251 is not known on the database server.. (WIS 10901)
Where is the mistake?

when using database credential mapping and AD, it is possible to assign the SQL credentials at a BOE group level instead of per BOE user?
Right now I fail to fully understand how that kind of provisioning is supposed to be done.
All in AD? All in BO? part here and part there?
The AD plug in is just for authentication and users should still be provisioned/configured in BOE?

Users using server with netinfo database security. Better/Worse than Ldap?

Hello, I have a small department of Mac users and I am in the process of setting them up to access a new Mac os/x 10.4 server. I created the accounts for the users in the local netinfo database with access rights granted to network shares via groups. Everything works well and the users connect to the server from their clients and mount drives. However I did setup a few users with the ldap portion of the server as a test and once I modify their Macs to connect to the server via ldap this works fine too. My question is will I loose features if I just use the netinfo database for logins? The server is only supplying afp logins and shares plus ftp access. I do plan on using the software update service and also vpn eventually. We have other servers that supply dhcp and dns info for our environment.

It may not be a concern in your environment, but I can't imagine why you wouldn't want to just start out with LDAP. Compared to NetInfo it's designed to provide better interoperability, it performs and scales better in larger installations, and provides better security via access controls. Also, by making your directory network-accessible, you can take advantage of features like automounting share points, preferences management, and mobile user accounts.

Same user in tacacs and local database with different privilege

i am just not sure if this is correct behavior.
i am running NX-OS image n5000-uk9.5.1.3.N1.1.bin on the nexus 5020 platform.
i have configured authorization with tacacs+ on ACS server version 5.2 with fall back to switch local database.
aaa authentication login default group ACS
aaa authorization commands default group ACS local
aaa accounting default group ACS
a user test with priv 15 is craeted on ACS server, password test2
everything works fine, until i create the same username on the local database with privilege 0. ( it doesnt matter if the user in local database was created before user in ACS or after )
e.g.:
username test password test1 role priv-0 (note passwords are different for users in both databases)
after i create the same user in local database with privilege 0,
if i try to connect to the switch with this username test and password defined on ACS, i get only privilege 0 authorization, regardless, that ACS server is up and it should be primary way to authenticate and authorizate the user.
is this normal?

Hello.
Privileges are used with traditional IOS. Privileges are part of "command authorization". Other operating systems (like IOS-XR, Nexus OS , Juniper JunOS) use "role-based authorization" instead of "command authorization".
So traditional IOS can use the "privilege" attribute but other operating systems can not.
Although IOS-XR, Nexus, ACE, Juniper have "roled-based authorization" feature, every single one of them use their particular attributes.
When I was configuring TACACS with ACE, Juniper and other devices I had to capture the packets to find out what were the particular attributes of ACE, what were the particular attributes of JunOS, etc, etc and to search deeply some hints the documentation , because sadly documentation is not very good when talking about TACACS details.
If you find which attributes to use, and what values to assign to the attributes then you can go to ACS and configure a "Shell Profile".
Now back to Nexus 5000. It seems this particular device has the option to mix "role-based" with "command authorization" by overriding the default roles with other roles which names are called "priv". It seems this was an effort to try to map the old concept of "privileges" to the new concept of "roles". Although you see the word "priv", it's just the name of the role. My particular point of view is that this complicates the whole thing. I would recommend to use just the default roles, or customize some of them (only if needed), but not to use "command authorization".

Search about command authorization in the AAA section, you'll get ample information about it, i.e., on how to configure network devices so that you can allow certain users on ACS to have limited and certain user to have full access.
About taking a backup, that is pretty simple.
System Configuration > ACS Backup > Backup Now.
And you have a latest backup from ACS.

Can not add function to pages-document created with Applescript

If I create new document using the GUI (New document) I can place the cursor within any table-cell, type "=" (equal sign) and f.e. "2+2" which will result in a cell showing a "4".
If I create a document with Applescript, I can not add new functions (neither by typing = nor by using Insert >> Function (may be different, I have German version here). Already existing functions (which already were in the template) can still be used and work as expected but can not be altered.
Any idea?

The variable templateName is undefined.
The variable angebotsNr is undefined too.
About the described behavior, it's a bug which I never discover before.
It's always striking in Pages '09.

How to use your own database with your users to authenticate in a Web app?

I'm starting to write my first web application and I'm going to use JSF, JPA and EJB3 in this application. One of the first things that I have to do on it is the authentication part where I'll have a page with a user name and a password for the user to login. So, as I'm new to all this in Java (I've already implemented this on .NET in the past), I was studying the Java EE 5 Tutorial, especifically the section "Example: Using Form-Based Authentication with a JSP Page". But I saw that the users that the sample application uses come from the file realm on the Application Server. The users are created there and assigned a name, a password and a group. After the users are in the Application Server we can simply uses forms authentication declaratively in the deployment descriptor (web.xml).
But the problem is that this doesn't work to me as I already have my own database with my users, so I want to use it instead of having to create the users on the Application Server.
So, I'm asking you how to do that. Of course I'm not expecting that you place the code here to me as I know that such a thing could be complicated. Instead, I'm asking if you know about some tutorial, article, book or something that teaches how to do what I want. But I would like to see theses examples using JSF and/or EJB3 because these are the technologies that I'm using to develop. It's a pity that the Java EE 5 Tutorial doesn't have an example using a custom database as I know that this situation is very common in the majority of web sites.

From memory, it goes like this... You just create a
raw jdbc connection on your user database using a
special "login" DB user account, which has
permissions only to an "authenticate" stored query,
which accepts two arguments: username & password, and
returns a boolean 0 or 1 rows found.When I implemented this in .NET's ASP.NET I had the same solution. I had an special user created in the database that I used to log in. When the real user entered his username and password I was already logged in and I had just to check his username and password agains the right table in my database.
But that was only possible bacause when I connected to the database using my hidden user, I used the rights APIs in ASP.NET that coordinate the authentication process. This means that before login in, no one could access any resources (pages, atc...). So what I'm saying is that I can't manager this manually in Java. Java has to have some API or whatever to allow me to control the login process programmatically, while letting the Application Server control the access to the resources.

Automatically add user to a specific database based on the users title

Is there away to automatically distribute users to a database based on their title? My organization has different quotas depending on your job title, so if you are an Outside sales rep you get a 2 GB mailbox, and if you are a Inside sales rep you
get a 1GB mailbox.

You can do that with cmdlet extension scripting agent. You need to do some custom setup but there are some examples in below articles (specially part 3)

I am trying to boot the application server, but the operation fails with the error message:

I installed the database with the setup program and come to think of it, I don't think you can specify whether to create a system or demo database. So I probably didn't install a demo, which is what I wanted. I also ran the SQRs and everything showed the database was correct, so I thought I did it right.
If I could install a demo with the setup program, I would do that because I think I could run through it pretty quickly having done it once. I've read in this forum and other places that it's much better to install the db manually, so maybe I'll just do that.

I am trying to add 2 users (as a test for now) from a csv file into an AD group.
The AD group name is "IMAllow"
I created a file called AddUsersToGroup.ps1 that I am running on windows power-shell.
