Adding 2 domains to a SharePoint FArm
Hi,
I have a SharePoint 2010 ( 2- tier farm) have 2 domains - Domain A & Domain B...both reside in the same forest and there is trust enabled between the domains.
in the SharePoint web App - site..I am able to add users from Domain A but not for Domain B.
I tried this commands
stsadm -o setapppassword -password <yourkey>
and this command
stsadm -o setproperty -pn peoplepicker-searchadforests -pv domain:domainB.local -url
http://
did an iisreset....still not able to find users from domain B.
Please help me here , what am I missing, any help would be appreciated !
You don't need or want to use the setapppassword option, as you are using trusted domains it
isn't required.
The second command is closer however your syntax is wrong.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/cc263460(v=office.12).aspx
stsadm –o setproperty –pn peoplepicker-searchadforests –pv <list of forests or domains> -url <WebApp>
The list of forests/domains should be a semi-colon separated list of all the domains to search. I assume that your 'http://' actually included
the url to the web application? You are also missing the quotation marks in your script.
Can you copy and paste the command you are using into a response, then change the sensitive bits of the URL and domain?

Error while adding a WFE to a Sharepoint farm
Hi,
I am getting an error while trying to add a WFE to a sharepoint farm.
Below is the script I am running in the WFE server
Connect-SPConfigurationDatabase
-DatabaseServer $DBServer -DatabaseName
$DBName -Passphrase (ConvertTo-SecureString $PassPhrase
-AsPlainText -Force
Below is the error
I had done a lot of other tests to check whether the connection between the WFE and sharepoint farm is valid or not. For eg:
- Was able to create a configuration database in sharepoint farm from WFE server using New-SPConfigurationDatabase script. By this I was able to setup central admin in WFE.
The only problem is I am not able to connect to an existing configuration database. Please help.Yes I tried adding in SQL alias and executed the sharepoint wizard, but I am still getting the same error.

Delete the existing sharepoint farm it is a development machinie and re create again in same server
Hi
i want to
delete the existing sharepoint farm it is a development machinie and re create again in same server.
because i am facing issues to configure user profile service,
the user profile syncronisation service starting and after some time its stopped.
while i am reading http://www.harbar.net/articles/sp2010ups.aspx
in current farm i given ip address for sql server while installing sharepoint
you have not used a Fully Qualified Domain Name or IP Address when specifying
the SQL Server when running the SharePoint Configuration Wizard (PSConfig). Using either is strongly discouraged,
if i recreate the farm is it creates new databases in sql srver?
adil1. Uninstall any custom / third party solutions deployed in server.
2. from central admin, delete web applications along with DB.
3. delete all service applications.
4. From the program settings, un-install sharepoint.
5. Go to SQL and delete if any DB from SP is left.
6. Uninstall SQL, if you see any issue.
These are high level reverse steps of the installation.

What permission does the Service account requires on AD for the Workflow manager 1.0 to be configured in SharePoint Farm?
The workflow manager configuration wizard crashes with the below error when used a domain account (setup account with full prvilige on sql and server). It requires some specific permissions on AD ? I couldnt see any documentation stating what permission
it requires.
Can anyone help ?

Once I connected my new server to my farm's config db, it returned all of the following missing locally. I stripped out any redundancies and Headings, and I'm left with 43. I'm looking for a efficient strategy. Should I start with the lowest version number
and work my way up? Current DB version is 14.0.7015.1000. IIRC, SP2 is cumulative, so can I ignore the first two (SP1 and Hotfix), install SP2, and then the Language packs and etc on top?

Content Database removed from protected SharePoint Farm
Hi,
We have a SharePoint 2007 farm protected with DPM 2012. We have removed a content database and now DPM is complaining about it, which is the expected behaviour in order to get noticed of accidentally missing databases. According to several sources, the right
way to get rid of these alerts is to stop protection - retaining data - and reprotecting it using the same parameters, so the DPM agent finds the retained data as a starting point.
However, our farm has about 4Tb allocated and we have less than 1 additional Tb free now in the DPM Pool, so if we stop protection and retain data, DPM will complain about the farm not fitting in that Tb (looks like DPM does not take into account that pertinent
data exists previously when estimating the replica and shadow sizes), so we will not be able to protect the farm again if we stop protection retaining data.
Funny, eh? any suggestions? Thanks in advance.Hi,
When you stop protection and retain the replica, DPM will move the sharepoint data source into an inactive protection group. When you re-protect the same sharepoint farm, DPM will first query the inactive protection group to see if a replica exists
for that data source and if so will reuse that replica. It will then do a consistency check to bring the replica up to date, then resume normal backups. Be sure the use the same recovery goals if you are not adding it back to the same protection group.

I am trying to add a new workflow to a document library with the below mentioned settings and getting error saying "This form cannot be opened in a web browser. to open this form use microsoft infopath" while adding a new Approval - Sharepoint
2010 and Publishing Approval workflow" . For your information the I have checked the server default option to open in browser.
Versioning Settings.

This is quiet urgent issue . Any help would be really helpful.. Thanks..Hi Marlene,
Thank you very much for your suggestions.
But I am not creating a custom workflow in designer as Laura has mentioned. I am instead trying to create a new Out of the box Approval Workflow and I get the error mentioned above.
As it works in other environment, I tried figuring out the possible differences which can lead to this error.
Today I found one difference which is there are no form Templates within Infopath Configurations in Central Admin. Now I am trying to figure out what makes this form templates to be added to the template gallery.

Hi,
I have just realised when looking at doing a Workflow that 2013 Workflows not available (you need to install Workflow Manager Farm). I understand why from a tenant installation perspective, but we are on-premise.
Can someone tell me if I can install Workflow Manager 1.0 (seen you have to now install WM 1.0 Refresh version) on the Central Admin App Server Machine in a 3 tier SharePoint farm. 3 WFE, 4 APP Servers, 1 DB Server and 1 DB Analysis Services Server.
I did test on a test farm 1WFE, 1 APP Server (with CA) and 1 Database Server. We are getting issues with the WFE Server having issues booting up or losing connection - possibly faulty network card. This may in no way be related to the install,
but just in case.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks.
John.Yes, you can install WFM on any server in a SharePoint farm.

Hi,
I've managed to configure my farm so that Microsoft Online Directory Services (Office 365 etc.) can be used for STS authentication, but what I'm actually trying to do is allow user authentication - that is, I'm hoping to be able to use the user's
O365 credentials to authenticate them in my own farm so they can view certain parts of it. If I need to write my own login form or authentication provider or whatever that's fine, as long as the user doesn't need to enter anything when they access my farm
(provided they already have cached O365 credentials in their browser session).
FWIW I actually need to be able to support the possibility that users are coming from multiple O365 tenancies, whereby each site collection will be configured to allow users from a different O365 tenancy (more or less).
If it's not possible to do with my own development farm on a PC, it is possible if the farm is hosted in Azure?
Thanks
DylanHi Dylan,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to use Microsoft Online Directory Services as a user authentication provider for your SharePoint farm.
For your demand, you can configure a hybrid topology for your SharePoint farm:

IP addresses are going to be changed for SharePoint farm servers(App, WFE, DB)
Hello,
We had multiple SharePoint Farms, and we would like to changes the IP address of all the servers in farm(because of changing the Datacenter). will I get any issues, if, how can I take it forward. Need suggestions.
Thank You
NARLAAs Vivek says it won't break anything, as long as you fix DNS.
SharePoint checks the database server by server name or alias, which both use the computer name, so no IP addresses are directly used there.
So these should be the steps:
1. Change your DNS records to point to the new IP address for all Web Applications
2. Change the IP addresses for the SQL Server and SharePoint
3. Check IIS on your SharePoint Server(s) to see if the new IP address is correctly configured for all Web Applications on all the servers in your farm.
4. Test everything :)
Happy SharePointing!

SharePoint writer metadata information in a SharePoint farm with multiple WFE servers.
I am working on Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) framework. I know that in a 3-Tier SharePoint environment the SharePoint writer metadata on WFE server gives all the information related to that farm.
My question is -
a) How would i get all the information related to the SharePoint farm from the SharePoint writer metadata in an environment where multiple WFE servers are configured?
b) Is it possible that in a SharePoint farm where multiple WFE servers are deployed, SP writer of only one WFE server (Master/Main server) contains all the information about the respective SP farm servers in its metadata?Hi Aaditya,
All Writer Metadata is stored in Writer Metadata Document which is produced by writer. The backup application uses the Writer Metadata document to get information about that writer, the data it owns,
and how to restore that data. Once the writer produces it, the Writer Metadata Document is a read-only document to the backup application.
The Writer Metadata Document contains three sets of data: writer identification and classification information, writer-level specifications, and component data.
For getting Writer Metadata, you can use
IVssBackupComponents::GetWriterMetadata method.
For more information, you can refer to the articles:

How to Prevent SharePoint Farm Password from Changing
I have been trying to stop the SP farm account, spfarm, from password changing. SharePoint Central Administration is used and I go to Central Security -> Configure managed accounts. I set spfarm not to change but it makes no difference.
It still changes. When that happens it screws up the SharePoint VSS Writer service account and backups fail (the password synch script has to run to fix). When the setting in SP CA is changed to allow password changes, the SharePoint VSS Writer
service account still has a problem and backups fail.
Additionally, I have run the two below scripts when necessary to try to correct the problem and it works until the password changes again. It seems as though the password changes whenever the server restarts or at least once every week or so.
Can anyone help me with this? I don't care if the password changes on a schedule as long as it doesn't cause the SharePoint VSS Writer service to fail during backup.
Repair-SPManagedAccountDeployment (This checks synch of passwords)
set-spmanagedAccount -UseExistingPassword
This is on a Windows Small Business Server 2011, which runs SharePoint 2010.
TonyHi Tony,
In SBS 2011, use 3 different accounts to run Windows SharePoint Foundation. The accounts are spfarm (SharePoint
Farm Account), spsearch, and spwebapp. For security reasons the passwords on these accounts are periodically reset. The password for spfarm is reset every 7 days that the Windows SBS Manager service is running.

How to Prevent SharePoint Farm Password from Changing
I will suggest that set the password expiry to be longer (such as: a month or 365 days or even more) and apply
it. Maybe a workaround.
By the way, the Windows SBS Manager service manages the spfarm account. This spfarm account will be found under
MyBusiness-> Users-> SBS Users in ADUC. If you navigate to the spfarm account in ADUC and open the Properties of it, then select
“Password never expires” under Account options in Account tab. Please check if this can help you to achieve target.
Hope this helps.

Hello,
I'm working with an application where we have many, many, many domain objects that could be added to a "header". In my business/service interface I don't like to write 50+ of addX(...), addY(...), addZ(...) etc. methods.
Every domain object extends a domain object base class. In my business/service interface I've added one single method for adding domain objects to make the interface somewhat smaller:
public void add(DomainObject[] someDomainObjects);
...The elements of the domain object array are of different kind, but all extends the domain object base class. I'd like to implement class and method that have a strategy for determining what kind of domain object the current one is in the given array and invoke the correct add(...) method for that particular domain object.
The most simple way of doing it is to have a very big if-else using instanceof to determine what kind of domain object it is, but it doesn't feel like a very nice design.
Example:
public class MyBusinessObject {
public void add(DomainObject[] someDomainObjects) {
// Iterate over all domain objects in the array
for (DomainObject domainObject : someDomainObjects) {
// Determine what kind of domain object it is and create the correct DAO
if (domainObject instanceof X) {
DomainObjectXDao xDao = new DomainObjectXDao();
// Save the current domain object
xDao.save((X) domainObject);
} else if (domainObject instanceof Y) {
DomainObjectYDao yDao = new DomainObjectYDao();
// Save the current domain object
yDao.save((Y) domainObject);
} else if (domainObject instanceof Z) {
DomainObjectZDao zDao = new DomainObjectZDao();
// Save the current domain object
zDao.save((Z) domainObject);
} else if (...) {
}Is there any design pattern for making this a more nice design?
If anyone could contribute with their good knowledge I'd be very glad!
Regards, Andreas ErikssonMap the DomainObject types to their respective DAOs and look them up as you loop through them in the add method, e.g.:
public class MyBusinessObject {
private Map daos = new HashMap();
daos.put(X.class, new XDomainTypeDAO());
daos.put(Y.class, new YDomainTypeDAO());
daos.put(Z.class, new ZDomainTypeDAO());
public void add(DomainObject[] objs) {
for (DomainObject obj : objs) {
Class type = obj.getClass();
DAO dao = (DAO) daos.get(type);
if (dao == null) {
throw new IllegalArgumentException(
"No DAO configured for DomainObject type " + type);
dao.save((DomainObject) obj);
}You'd have to create a DAO interface (or abstract base class) which defines a save method with the signature public void save(DomainObject obj). Then each DAO would have to implement this method and cast the passed domain object to the expected type.
To take things further, you could introduce a DAOProvider interface to hide where the MyBusinessObject obtains the DAOs from (rather than have it maintain the map), e.g.:
public interface DAOProvider {
DAO daoFor(Class domainType);
// A really simple implementation - assmes that DAOs are thread-safe
public class SimpleDAOProvider implements DAOProvider {
private Map daos = new HashMap();
daos.put(X.class, new XDomainTypeDAO());
daos.put(Y.class, new YDomainTypeDAO());
daos.put(Z.class, new ZDomainTypeDAO());
public DAO daoFor(Class domainType) {
DAO dao = (DAO) daos.get(type);
if (dao == null) {
throw new IllegalArgumentException(
"No DAO configured for DomainObject type " + domainType);
return dao;
}The advantage of this is you can alter the strategy for handing out DAOs, e.g. pass the same instance back each time, or dynamically instantiate a new instance, etc. Of course, you need a way for the MyBusinessObject to get hold of a DAOProvider instance (inject it? Have it use a factory?)
