Adding a ASP Search to a Dreamweaver Site

I have just created a basic HTML website using Dreamweaver CS3. It is just a series of link pages with various documents on each page. I used a vertical Spry navigation menu. This is an intranet site for the company I work for and as such will reside on an internal server. So far so good.
The problem I have is this - my client wants to add a search box so that folks can search the site. Someone suggested I use an ASP search from a website called SimonGibson.com. Since it was only $25 I took a chance and downloaded it. Of course, I probably should have thought it out a bit more, because I don't even know if this will work on a static site. The dowload includes a default.asp file, a form.html file, and a css file. Would I simply need to put these files in my root folder?
Has anyone else tried this or do you know if it is possible to have a search component? Is there a better way to do it?
I am new to this so I appreciate any feedback you can give me. Thanks!

They have 4 products available. Which did you download? Are you running an IIS server?

  • Adding blog style content to a dreamweaver site

    So I am trying to help my site out a bit by adding content.  i have always written articles, but I have recently decided I should be adding these to my own site. I would like to somehow add content to the site (either in the form of a directory with wordpress installed) or preffereably through dreamweaver (love it, am comfortable with it etc.)  I would like to someohow get the content to my landing pages but I suppose I could be satisfied just having it in a directory. Is there any dreamweaver widget or anything that would allow me to post content on my landing pages that would be like inside of a scrolling box? I wish i understood what I was trying to accomplish a bit better (it would probably help me ask this question in a more intelligent way)
    If anyone can make sense of my nonsense question, I will be forever indebted to you! Thanks in advance guys love this forum.

    Create an RSS feed of your "articles" or blog posts.  It's not hard.  It's just a simple XML file.
    Then use a script to parse the XML feed into your home page.  The following tutorial describes how to bring a Blogger RSS feed into your main web site with PHP.

  • A search box in dreamweaver, which searches the site not a google search

    Hi would someone be able to tell me, when creating a search box in dreamweaver, do I have to create the pages that answer the text quires entered into the search bar? I know how to create contact forms etc, im just a little confused how a personalised search bar for a website in dreamweaver works. Any opinions or answers would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Elle

    others that maybe searching (irony?) for a search form will know what the best method is vs. the throw up in your mouth method that was suggested by others earlier in this thread.
    @shocker,
    The only reference to "vomit" here is your own.  The rudeness of your remarks notwithstanding,  you are once again misinformed, as is so typical when the discussion gets around to 3rd party solutions.
    Freefind is used by Dynamic Drive as well as many other commercial web sites.  Zoom from Wrensoft has received excellent reviews year after year.  And believe it or not, you can fully customize the search parameters, form and results pages to match your site's CSS styles.
    Unless the OP is well versed in dynamic site development (which I doubt based on his question),  I'm afraid an off-the-shelf solution is about the best he can hope for.

  • Attaching search criteria to a site

    Hi!
    Is there a way to attach search criteria to a site.
    I mean... when you are constructing a site in dreamweaver, is
    there a way to sort of attach search words to the site.
    So that when people search for those words on google, your
    site comes up.
    For Example, I'm designing a site for a jewellery store in
    sydney . And I would like when people search words like :
    jewellery, or necklace, or wedding sydney etc, that my site comes
    up ..
    Is this at all possible....
    Thanks
    Karen

    > So that when people search for those words on google,
    your site comes up.
    > For Example, I'm designing a site for a jewellery store
    in sydney . And I

    necklace, or
    > wedding
    > sydney etc, that my site comes up ..
    > Is this at all possible....
    In theory, it's possible by adding "keywords" to a Meta tag
    in the head of
    each and every page.
    In DW: Insert > HTML > Head Tags > Keywords.
    However, you'll find that these won't weave any magic for
    your ranking on
    the web because
    a) competition for your keywords is fierce,
    b) keywords have been around for a long time so there will be
    many sites
    ahead of you in the queue
    c) spammers have rendered Keywords almost useless
    Don't expect to reach no.1 or even the top 10 any time soon
    unless there's
    something unique about your site.
    I entered "jewellery wedding sydney" into Google Australia
    and got 136,000
    results.
    Your best assets are good Titles and Descriptions (Insert
    > HTML > Head Tags
    > Description) for all your pages, relevant text content
    on your site, good
    use of headers (H1, H2 etc) and a good site structure so
    Google can easily
    find what you want it to.

  • White square for .swf file in dreamweaver site

    Hi
    Apologies if this is a very basic question.
    I have built a dreamweaver site and embedded a .swf file (a
    slideshow of photos created in flash) into the page.
    When I view the page online, the .swf file takes a few
    seconds to load, and while it is loading I get a white square where
    the slideshow should be (the dreamweaver and flash documents have a
    black background).
    Question - how do I either
    a) get the white square to be black
    b) get a loading bar to show that the flash video is loading
    Many thanks

    Thanks so much Tom - I now have a black background!
    The only problem is that my .swf is taking ages (8-10sec) to
    load and now its all the same it looks like nothing is happening!
    I have looked at the preloader threads and customised a
    preloader, but I can work out from the search results/threads what
    to do with it.
    How do i link the preloader into my .swf file. Do I need to
    know actionscript (I dont!) to do this? (I have Studio 8)
    The other gist I picked up from the threads is its better to
    avoid the preloader all together. I'm creating a photography
    website - hence big .swf - but do you have any hints for optimising
    the .swf - the flash publish compression is all I've used so far
    Many thanks

  • Trouble adding GoodSearch HTML search box: HTML widget doesn't work...

    I'm having trouble adding a GoodSearch search engine box to my site. I've tried the HTML widget thing and also editing the code after it publishes to a folder. Each time, I get a non-functional search box as my end result.
    The GoodSearch tech person says that iWeb might be stripping out or corrupting the Javascript code...interestingly enough, a Google search box works just fine with post code tweaking.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    iWeb does nothing to code you add in the HTML Snippet.
    Actually, iWeb does not care what you put there. It blindly saves the code in a webpage.
    http://web.mac.com/toesproductions/KQ//Homefiles/widget0markup.html
    So, now you have no excuse.
    Just edit the code in the file above until it works.
    After that, copy the code in the BODY of the page and paste in into the HTML Snippet. Otherwise it will overwrite the webpage next time you publish.

  • Need help: enter flash file in Dreamweaver site with dark background

    Hi,
    I've entered a SWF in a dreamweaver site with a dark blue
    background. When you view the site in a browser there is a white
    square (the size of the flash file) that flashes up for a second
    before the file starts loading. This is rather ugly and I was
    wondering if anyone knew how to avoid this white square from
    flashing up.
    I already tried making the table background dark blue and
    adding a dark blue square as a background image, but that has not
    made any difference.
    If you'd like to see what it does, this is a link to one of
    the pages: www.billmather.co.uk/portraits.htm
    Thank you in advance for any help or advice you can give me!

    Hi Horus,
    Thank you for getting back to me. I found it, and tried it.
    But still does not seem to make a difference. This is what the code
    in dreamweaver now looks like:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    AC_FL_RunContent( 'codebase','
    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,19,0','wid th','850','height','660','src','flashFilesBill/landscapes','quality','high','pluginspage', 'http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer','movie','flashFilesBill/landscapes'
    ); //end AC code
    </script>
    <noscript>
    <object
    classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="
    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,19,0"
    width="850" height="660">
    <param name="bgcolor" value="#000033" />
    <param name="movie"
    value="flashFilesBill/landscapes.swf">
    <param name="quality" value="high">
    <embed src="flashFilesBill/landscapes.swf" quality="high"
    pluginspage="
    http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"
    type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="850"
    height="660"></embed>
    </object>
    Did I enter it correctly? (I also tried it as <param
    name="bgcolor" value="#000033"> but that did not work either) Or
    do we still need to find another solution?
    Thanks ever so much for all your suggestions and ideas. I
    truly appreciate it.

  • Using Contribute on a non-Dreamweaver site.

    A client wants to use Contribute 3 for CMS on a site I have built with Brand-X software and hand coding.  This is not a Dreamweaver site.
    I have found and tested the following code, posted in 2007 by ThinkInk -
    ----------------------------------- example code ----- see body tag for editable code------
    <body>
    <!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="content" -->
    editable content
    <!-- InstanceEndEditable -->
    </body>
    </html>
    This gives a titled, highlighted box around the html marked, but leaves all items on the page selectable, html editable and most imges deletable.
    Can someone provide a sample of code that could be added to areas that should not be edited?

    Hi, Light,
    Oh, you're fine with being secretive. I don't actually want to know what software you are using, because it doesn't make any difference to me! I don't have experience with other softwares and can't offer any wisdom that way!
    Regarding the CSS pages, make sure that the external CSS files are properly linked to your Template files. If you are looking at a Template page with properly linked CSS files, you should see them in the CSS Styles Panel...both the files and a list of the styles therein. You also should see that your html pages look correct.
    Don't make Templates of the CSS files; they need to be CSS files, not Templated pages.
    If your CSS files are named with the .css extension and linked, they should show up in the CSS Styles Panel. If the files are well-formed, but don't carry a .css extension, you might make new pages File > New > New Document > CSS and create a new file for each, pasting in your CSS declarations just under the
    @charset "utf-8";
    /* CSS Document */
    at the top of the file. Then make sure each file is properly linked to the appropriate Template pages.
    Make sure, after you have fixed up the CSS files and the Templates, that you propagate the changes...save each Template file and answer yes, when you are asked if you want to update the files. If any of those files are open in the Document Window, after you have Saved the Template you will need to Save All again, to save the individual pages.
    Then upload to your server. <Grin>

    In newer versions of Flash Pro, you can export to HTML5 Canvas, that's probably what they're talking about: Flash Professional Help | Creating and publishing an HTML5 Canvas document
    .FLV and .SWF are Flash formats that won't show up on iOS (or an ever increasing number of other mobile devices). Mobile Flash was killed by Adobe a couple years ago, so the number of mobile devices that can see it is dwindling rapidly, don't use those formats if you want your viewers on mobile devices to see your content.

  • How to include Aperture web gallery in dreamweaver site

    With the demise of mobile me I need to find a way to keep my personal website photo albums (web galleries) that I currently publish via Aperture web gallery and then use a hyperlink from my Dreamweaver web site. This means visitors can view the photo's from a link button but the actual images they see are Aperture Web Galleries. This method has worked for me for a while now.
    I know you can save a complete web gallery from Aperture onto a local drive rather than upload to mobile me. Does anyone know a beginners (ie me) guide to include that Aperture web gallery directly into a Dreamweaver site?. It feels like it should be possible but can't find any help.
    thanks in advance.
    Peter B.

    Hello Peter,
    What I do, to link my Aperture galleries to my iWeb pages, is to export the galleries from Aerture to my disk and then to upload them using ftp to a folder at my web hostings service. Then I link the iWeb pages to the gallery using link button or string. I use the free FTP program CyberDuck http://cyberduck.softonic.de/mac to copy the gallery using ftp. If your web hosting service allows ftp transfer, you could do the same. CyberDuck is really a smart little tool, but any program that allows ftp transfer would suffice.

  • Search on a FBA site

    I have a sharepoint 2007 site witch run with AD login, and have been extended with a custom FBA login.
    It's all working great except the search on the FBA site.
    On the AD site, the content is security trimmed correctly, but on the FBA site, which don't allow anonymous acces (nor does the AD site), i get no result through our custom search control. And with the Search Center i get a lot of noise in the result to
    pages the users doesn't hace access to.
    If i run the search with elevated rights, i get the same result as the search center, with noise.
    I have tried to make my own SecurityTrimmer, but i can only get it to work with the AD site. Doesn't seem to fire, when i set it up to the FBA site.
    The indexer runs against the AD site.
    Can anyone adwise me as I thought that SharePoint did the security trimming by it self correctly.

    Hi Brian,
    If you remove the custom login page from web application settings and then reset the index and start full crawl .
    Do you get the count of items crawled after that?
    Its its crawling suucessfully all the items ,then you can place the custom login page back in web application settings .
    Can you also share the error you are getting in your crawl history ?
