Adding A Business Process To SolMan

Hi,
I've just upgraded our Solman system to EHP1 SPS22 and I'm now looking at business process monitoring.
From documentation I've seen you go into DSWP and select your solution and away you go, I've also seen mention of transactions solar01/02. I seem to be missing something here as our defined solutions don't already have business processes defined and I'm being a bit lame as I can't seem to see how you would add a new business process in.
Does anyone have any experience in doing this and is able to coomunicate process in a step by step guide to get us up and running?
Thanks.

Hi Spencer,
as you probably heard here and ther the SAP Solution Manager supports the whole lifecycle of a business process. Hence there are especially two logical parts
a) the project and business blueprint part which you access with your mentioned transactions SOLAR01/02
b) the operations part where you have a similar but nevertheless separate directory the so called Solution Directory that you can access via DSWP > Solution Landscape > Solution Landscape Maintenance or via the "Business Process Operations" Work Center.
In both directories you can maintain business processes from scratch or use the Business Process Repository or another Project or another Solution as source.
What you require for using Business Process Monitoring is that business processes are maintained in the Solution Directory. If so far you processes are only maintained in SOLAR01/02 then you can copy them into the Solution Directory.
You should find corresponding iTutors under http://service.sap.com/rkt-solman
You can also have a look into http://service.sap.com/bpm > Media Library > Technical Information for different technical papers explaining on how to setup BPMon.
Perhaps you also want to visit the FAQ page http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/SM/FAQBusinessProcess+Monitoring

  • Highlight critical business Processes in SOLMAN

    Hello everybody,
    I know it is possible to categorize test cases in SOLMAN. But what about business Processes or Transactions?
    Can I highlight them in order to reduce my test scope ? So I will immediately know which Object I must  test when I’m upgrading my system.
    Thank you so much in advance
    Regards
    Felix

    Hi Felix,
    You can use Business Process Change Analyzer (BCPA) to identify test scope or Scope and Effort Analyzer to estimate upgrade scope.
    Manually within SOLAR01 you can use customer attributes to maintain flags or filters. These attribute scan be maintained within business process nodes and transaction objects.
    Hope this helps,

  • Business process management (BPM)

    How do business process mangement implmentation related to SAP BASIS guys.

    Hi,
    If you are talking about Solution manager BPM(Business Process Monitoring), its upto you how much you can relate, generally we used to do configuration on based upon inputs from fuctional consultants, so in case you dont have any solution mnaager consultant , you can collect the busness scenario related information and map the business process in solman setup , finally need to configre monitring based on scopes.Maximum input should come from business users to map.
    Hope it will clear ,

  • BUSINESS PROCESS FLOW (BPF) TASK SETUP - CURRENT VIEW OPTIONS

    This article explains a few findings regarding the options on Current View Type for setting up Business Process Flow tasks and will discuss BPC for Excel, Data Manager and BPC Web tasks.
    Future posts will cover more tasks.
    This is valid for 5.x versions only.
      IMPORTANT NOTE:
    DATA MANAGER PACKAGES
        Data Manager Packages tasks such as Run Specific Package, Run User Package are not integrated
        with the Current View Type selection. Therefore, the options Inherit from Data Region, Inherit from
        Current View or Member Lookup does not work on Data Manager Packages. This is due to the diversity of Data Manager Packages, such as Import, Export, Clear, Default Formulas, each of them requiring a complete different set of parameters, some of them not related to the Current View.
    1. INHERIT FROM DATA REGION
      Once you choose to Open a BPF from BPC for Excel, you are prompted to choose the Data
      Region. Upon setting the desired Data Region, the Current View is changed
      accordingly on BPC Web.
        OPEN TEMPLATE / REPORT LIBRARY / SCHEDULE LIBRARY
        If a step is defined as Open Template/Report Library/Schedule Library
        and INHERIT FROM DATA REGION is set to one (or more) of the Data Region
        dimensions, the Current View on BPC for Excel should change to match
        the settings done Data Region settings, being the same as the one on BPC Web.
        SET WORK STATUS
        Same as above.
    2. INHERIT FROM CURRENT VIEW
        OPEN TEMPLATE / REPORT LIBRARY / SCHEDULE LIBRARY
        If a step is defined as Open Template/Report Library/Schedule Library and INHERIT FROM
        CURRENT VIEW is set to one (or more) dimensions, the report will pickup the Current View
        from BPC Web and BPC for Excel should change to match the Current View,
        being the same as the one on BPC Web.
        Example:
        1. Log on to BPC Admin on ApShell -> Manage Application Sets;
        2. Go to Business Process Flows -> Budgeting Process;
        3. Grant access to the BPF to your test user;
        4. Check Sub-Step 1 of Step 1 - Check Budget Data. This steps has a
           INHERIT FROM CURRENT VIEW setup (ENTITY).
        5. Log on to BPC Web on ApShell;
        6. Go to Open a Business Process Flow and choose Budgeting Process;
        7. Choose the desired Data Region;
        8. On BPC Web, verify the value setup for ENTITY on the Current View;
        9. Open the Check Budget Data;
        10. The ENTITY on the Current View will be set up accordingly to what
            was set on BPC Web.
        SET WORK STATUS
        Same as above.
    3. MEMBER LOOKUP
        OPEN TEMPLATE / REPORT LIBRARY / SCHEDULE LIBRARY
        If a step is defined as Open Template/Report Library/Schedule Library and MEMBER LOOKUP
        is set to one (or more) dimensions, the report will set the Current View
        on BPC for Excel to the member that was configured.
        Example:
        1. Log on to BPC Admin on ApShell -> Manage Application Sets;
        2. Go to Business Process Flows -> Budgeting Process;
        3. Grant access to the BPF to your test user;
        4. Check Sub-Step 1 of Step 1 - Check Budget Data. This steps has a
           MEMBER LOOKUP setup (CATEGORY).
        5. Log on to BPC Web on ApShell;
        6. Go to Open a Business Process Flow and choose Budgeting Process;
        7. Choose the desired Data Region;
        8. On BPC Web, verify the value setup for CATEGORY on the Current View;
        9. Open the Check Budget Data;
        10. The CATEGORY on the Current View will be set up accordingly to what
            was set on the Task configuration, in other words, there should be BUDGET set
            on the Current View.
        SET WORK STATUS
        Same as above.

  • Business Process Documentation

    Dear All
    Business Process Documentation
    I just want to know foloowing thing sabout Business Process Documentation.
    do yuo know where there any documents about Business Process Documentation and system log ?
    Edited by: Koji Watanabe on Feb 16, 2012 1:52 AM

    Hellow Watanabe-san
    Could you explain little bit mroe about what you are looking
    for ?
    Are you looking for the way to document Business Process in SolMan ?
    Or
    Are you looking for the way to monitor your business process in
    the backedn system ?
    The link that vasanthgobi mentioned is the SAP help on business
    process monitoring.
    Documentation topic
    In SAP Solman, you can document your business process in following
    2 area. Project area and Solution area. Project area is mainly used
    for implementation phase or initial documentation. Solution area is
    used for operation phase.
    And to support the documentation, SAP Solman provides several
    supporting tools for project area (you can copy the document in
    project area to solution later).
    In SolMan 7.1, if you want to document your business process,
    you may have following possibility.
    (General motivation for the documentation, please refer to the
    this blog http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/27054.
    And service Market Place
      http://service.sap.com/esacademy  (login in english)
      =>meet the expert =>Replay  Library.
      =>SAP Solution manager =>Solution Documentation )
    1.Upload via EXCEL (initial upload) and adjust in project area
    <Create templete via project, and create excel content locally
      and upload to project area>
    2.Maintain business process by using Business Blue print function
    <Using more graphical instead of SolMan screen>
      Also refer to these blogs
      http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/28304
      http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/27212
      And service market place link (webinar)
      http://service.sap.com/esacademy  (login in english)
      =>meet the expert =>Replay  Library.
      =>SAP Solution manager =>Business Process Blueprint
    3.Start initial documentation using RBPD content and adjust it in
    project area
    <SAP and IBIS develop analysis content based on the business
      process repository. By using this content, you can execute
      analysis for ERP and can get process utilization info.
      And you can create initial process from this>.
      Also refer to these blogs
      http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/26074
      And service market place link
      http://service.sap.com/rbpd
    4.Document manually in project area
    (Also ARIS integration is possible).
    In above case, if you use RBPD content, yes, you have some step
    related to the backend system (collecting process execution statistic
    in ERP). But in other case, you do not have any activity to ERP.
    For RBPD, it collects the data by using job, and you can control
    the number of WP to be used. The runtime will be depending your
    ERP system size.
    Business Process Monitoring topic
    In SolMan, there are business process monitoring functionality.
    Actually, it is not only the monitoring, but also you can use it
    for business process improvement.
    Basically in business process monitoring related tools,
    there are 2 main tools
    1.Business Process Monitoring tool - Monitoring
    2.Business Process Analytics tool - Analysis & benchmarking
    (Also there are dashboard).
    Business Process Monitorings enables monitoring of your core
    business process from technical and application side.
    The tool can monitor specific job(normal job/BW process chain),
    interface(IDoc, tRFC, qRFC etc), performance, and also different
    types of transaction document like sales order, delivery,
    purchase order, production ordet etc.
    For transaction monitoring, there are pre-defined template
    (best practice).
    Also it allows to monitor any table (z/y-table also).
    And the Analytics tool is the tool based on the BW.
    By using this, you can do benchamarking, trend analysis,
    backlog analysis.
    In more, I highly recommend to check the series of blog
    by Volker. And FAQ document.

    There are configuration document in service market place also.

  • Adding custom panels to Business Process Workspace

    Hi,
    is it possible to add a custom panel to the Business Process Workspace? By custom I mean a jsp/jsf/jsff/taskflow/etc that i design.
    Is that possible. And if yes can somenoe point me to documentation or exemples?
    Thanks in advance,
    Diogo Henriques

    Hi Ruben,
    thanks for your response, but i'm still having problems.
    First the workspace.properties didn't have that property, so i tried adding it but the workspace stop responding só I had to revert the alteration (on a side note, I altered the file in the .ear on the server and then updated the .ear through the deployments list, is there other way to alter it like a properties page?).
    While looking for a solution to my problem I started seeing references to Oracle Webcenter and Process Spaces. Do I have to install them to be able to do the kind of costumizations I want?
    Thanks,

    Hi Kamil,
    I'm guessing you are talking about encountering these issues post MLR# 7 patch.
    Here are some of the things ypu could start off with:
    1. Check your LS Inventory to see if your patch was applied successfully
    2. Ensure that all the post installation steps were performed (in the readme file)
    3. You could rollback this patch and check if you are still getting the same error.
    4. After rollback, if your config works fine, rerapply the patch again and observe the effects.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Suhas.

  • Using ARIS process models as the foundation for Business Process Monitoring

    Hello,
    Do anyone know if you can use IDS Scheer ARIS process models and the integration between IDS Scheer ARIS and SAP Solution Manager as the starting point for end-to-end Business Process Monitoring (BPM) so that you get the process description/model automatically in Solution Manager BPM and just need to configure the monitoring (more or less that you monitor against the modelled process in ARIS)?
    Is there an API for SAP Solution Manager BPM so that non-SAP solutions/systems can be part of the end-to-end process monitoring?
    If not, how do you usually integrate non-SAP solutions that are part of an end-to-end process that you want to monitor into SAP Solution Manager BPM, or do you not use Solution Manager BPM for this?
    What is the roadmap for SAP around SAP Solution Manager BPM when it comes to non-SAP systems/applications/solutions and the new SAP NetWeaver BPM functionality?
    Regards,
    Markus Johansson

    Hello Markus,
    I just paste my answer form the other forum entry Re: Business process management strategy in SAP?
    in a nutshell BPM Netweaver is focussing on so called edge-processes (usually
    SOA-based and often workflow related). These edge-processes a thought to enhance exisitng core business processes and should provide the fast competitive edge versus competitors. Examples would be also xApps. For this Netweaver provides process modelling tools, where you can get exectuable code through the integration between CE and PI. The monitoring part for these processes is mainly targeting business end-users and business manager.
    Business Process Monitoring with Solution Manager focusses on core business processes which are realized with the "conventional", "old" SAP Architecture, e.g. Order-to-Cash or Procure-to-Pay. You get a combination of technical monitors (average response times of transactions, background job runtimes, monitors for IDOC or qRFC processing) and application related monitors (you get more than 200 pre-configured application monitors out-of-the-box like number of overdue customer orders or outbound deliveries or number of deliveries with goods issue posted but no invoice). The target group here is the support organization of the customer, from Basis-Support over application support on IT side to process owner on business department side.
    Overview presentations can be found under
    https://service.sap.com/bpm --> Media Library --> Customer Information -->
    "Business Process Monitoring - Part 1 & 2".
    Or look under https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/nw-processmonitoring
    In the end BPM Netweaver and BPMon SolMan are complementary for different purposes and different target groups.

  • 2 Logical Components for 1 Business Process Step

    Hello All,
    I'm looking for a way to assign in SolMan --> transaction Solar01 - Tab Structure - Business Process Step, 2 logical components for 1 business step. When creating the business step I have to assign 1 specific logical component to this step. Once I have done this I can only select  the chosen logical component ffor SAP Transactions, configuration object etc.. As my business step is running on 2 different systems I need to find a way to link transactions etc. in the step to the different systems. Is there any way to change this for the Level 3 elements, like it is for level 2 (business processes) where I can choose in the different tabs between all the logical components?
    Thanks in advance
    Ramó

    I've seen people use some absolute craziness to get more than three levels. The most extreme being using multiple projects at the highest level (i.e. a project for PTP Accounts Payable). Don't go there.
    I personally like to have 1 transaction per process step. Don't use the transaction tab as another process level, use it to better describe the process step (like all the other tabs are uses). It results in a better understanding of the system as you go forward. To do that I make teams break up things they think are one step (this can take some arm twisting, so hit the gym and maybe take a few judo classes).
    This allows you to use SolMan in more powerful ways. For instance, if you attach development objects to a step with 5 transactions, you cannot tell which transaction is modified by the development object. However, one transaction per node provides you this link. There are other examples, but basically the "where used" button becomes very useful when you have 1 transaction per node.
    Maybe you could provide a specific example of your process and we can think of a better way to collapse it.
    Such as:
    - PTP Non-Merchandise Purchasing
    -- Expense Purchasing
    --- Create Purchase Requisition
    --- Create Purchase Order (Assign Vendor & Price)
    --- Send to Vendor
    --- Post Goods Receipt
    --- Perform LIV
    --- Process Payment
    Some companies have 6 level processes already defined in models and putting it into SolMan can be a pain for sure. Your naming convention is usually the best route.
    regards,
    Jason
    The system role and template work around doesn't apply to your situation.

  • Re: What is a Business Process Expert?

    Hello all,
    Maybe we should open the discussion a bit beyond a "Human Centric" BPX. The main theme after all IS "The Business Process". There are hundreds, possibly thousands of Business Processes depending upon whether you categorize as micro or macro processes. Any one of these either on a micro/macro level function with or without human beings and may utilize machines that assist or automate value added activities/processes which produce higher value service or products in the age old scenario [input > process > useful output & waste output].
    When we talk about Expert or Expertise, we are talking about precise know-how, and narrow domain knowledge wether depth or breadth knowledge.
    Referring back to a post by Luis Rincones, regarding ideas and concepts leading to BPX, automation of the business process should be the KEY focus of a BP engineer. Back in the late 80's early 90's, we referred to these BP engrs. as "Knowledge Engineers" and their principal goals were to interview "Experts" in order to extract expert knowledge (sometimes 20+ years of experience) and understand not only the flow of the process, but more importantly the RULES which govern all exceptions and variations encountered within the process, as well as "rules of thumb" in case the RULES don't apply.
    This is something which if we are truly to orient our Enterprise SOA architecture towards the goals of BPX mentioned above, will require a common "Rule Based Engine", which lives across all domains of knowledge, Objects, & environments, and works together with the design & development environment for the xAPP (I like to refer to them as "Expert Applications") and thereby enable not only the integration and homogenization of input data (via the technology stack), but also integrate the application of logic via a common rule based engine. In this way, E-SOA can also be enabled on the "useful" outbound process enabling services (actions) which mediate/manage/automate the process back to prescribed operating parameters.
    Of course, people can not be eliminated from the process. Lexus factory in Korea back in 2002 operated with approx. 60 or so people, 150 robots, and produced >300 units per day. People were mostly involved in QA and deviation functions.
    Automating the Business Process optimizes the output:input ratio and should minimize the waste:useful output ratio. By doing so, the ROI, ROA, and operating margins are maximized and competitive advantage gains against other not so able competitors.
    Any one else has a few words on this?

    You raise a very important and interesting question regarding whether there is any framework for narrowing down the domain of a Business Process Expert.
    There are many frameworks out there:
    http://www.bpmg.org/8omega.php
    http://www.prosci.com/tutorial-design-mod1.htm
    http://www.intel.com/technology/itj/2004/volume08issue04/art11_collaboration/p01_abstract.htm
    From my experience, it is beneficial to focus on a critical "life support" process for the corporation.  Many times this can be started at the top level COO for instance, asking what is the # 1 thing which causes issues with customers, collections, services, etc..  One such item is "contract to cash" and specific sub-components of this process such as "unbilled hours" which if corrected prior to billing issuance will result in more accurate Invoices, and collections. An improvement of this nature shortens the cycle time of billing to collection, or hour entry to billing calculation, and with improved accuracy increases cash flow and lowers cost per transaction.
    What you are suggesting in terms of Media expert, etc.. is more associated with Roles which are aligned with Solution Scenarios within SAP.  Business Processes may span many roles, and are critical to the application being developed.
    I believe this is the purpose of BPM, but would welcome any further comments from colleagues regarding framework.
    Please take a look at the following BLOG as well as Lakshmikanth does a very good job explaning the landscape:
