Adding a second domain controller to domain

Neally I can do that no problem but why it is asking me again when it was already done when I added my first 2008 R2 Domain Controller .  I will try running it again and post the results.
Thanks

Hi ,
I am trying to add a second Windows 2008 R2 domain controller to a existing domain.
but its asking me to run adprep/forestprep but I already have domain controller that is a Windows Server 2008 R2 and it is also a Schema Master Role holder .
Any help is this regards will be much appreciated.
Thanks

  • Adding a second Domain Controller

...ok, so what you're saying is, If I don't spread out the FSMO roles, when the primary DC fails, I will likely run into problems until I seize the FSMO roles and delegate them to the secondary DC? By spreading out the FSMO roles, I am creating less work for myself in the event of a failure?
...Having said that, it isn't critical that I spread out the FSMO roles, but, would benefit me in the event of failure from a time stand point?

I'm sitting at about 95% completion... but before I click finish, I had a few questions...
I have a physical domain controller and Site-A, I want to add a secondary Domain Controller to Site-A and run it as a Virtual Machine... just in case the first DC dies, my users can still authenticate while I restore it from backup...
I'm essentially adding a new DC to the existing domain, Global Catalog, DNS... not read only...
I don't understand FSMO... do I need to do anything? or can I literally just add the second DC to the existing domain, enter the IP of the new DC in the secondary DNS on all my workstations (or DHCP leases settings) and call it a day?
Thanks for the input.. .just trying to make sure I'm not going to hose my primary DC or fek something up and create more work for myself than necessary...

  • Adding second domain controller in Windows server 2012 R2

Hello, our primary domain controller is currently on a machine that has Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. We are planning to setup a second domain controller as a failover to our primary domain controller. My question is, can we have a secondary domain
controller on a Windows Server 2012 R2 even if our primary domain controller is on a machine that has Windows Server 2008 R2?

I think I found the answer to my question.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd464018(v=ws.10).aspx
"In Windows Server 2012, Adprep.exe is integrated into the AD DS installation process and runs automatically as needed. For example, when you install the first domain controller that runs Windows Server 2012 into an existing domain and forest, then adprep
/forestprep and adprep /domainprep automatically run and report the results of the operations.
Some organizations may prefer to run Adprep.exe separately in advance of an AD DS installation. For this reason, Adprep.exe is also included in the \Support\Adprep folder of the operating system disk.
In Windows Server 2012, there is only one 64-bit version of Adprep.exe. It can be run remotely from any server that runs a 64-bit version of Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, or Windows Server 2012. The computer where you run it can be either
    domain-joined or in a workgroup.
The version of Adprep.exe in Windows Server 2012 includes new syntax and parameter options in order to run it remotely. For more information, see
    Adprep."

  • Potential Downtime or Damage to Exchange if I remove a second domain controller??

We have a single instance of Exchange 2010 with all roles (minus lync, communications, etc..) on a Server 2008 Standard server.
We also have a primary domain controller and a second domain controller that offers DNS and would be used in case of disaster to the primary controller.
I've noticed in the past that if the secondary domain controller is down for maintenance that the Exchange server starts having problems. A major example of this would be last year the virtual instance of the second domain controller failed and when we rebooted
the exchange server, it lost its association with the domain even though the primary domain controller was readily accessible.
We are in a spot now that we no longer need the secondary domain controller and want to decommission it. I obviously want that to go as smoothly as possible. Is there anything I should do to prevent any unwanted damages to the exchange environment?
    Jonathan Strader

It doesn't seem that anyone has responded to this.  The short answer is turning off the secondary server will NOT have an effect on the exchange server.  HOWEVER, that is the short answer.
It WILL have an effect if:
    1) the secondary server is the ONLY DNS server and the exchange server is using the secondary server for DNS queries.
    2) The FSMO Roles are on the secondary server
    3) The Secondary server is the only global catalog.
I know this is a lot to take in.. but it really isn't that hard.  FSMO Roles and global catalog are just a piece of active directory that keeps track of users, rights, settings, that sort of thing.  You need to make sure that you seize the FSMO
roles on the first domain controller.
One command you can do on the first server to check fsmo roles is:
    netdom query fsmo
On a side note.  This is what you can do as well to see if the secondary server has any effect on exchange.  Ready?  Turn off the secondary server and see if anything bad happens (People don't get their emails..) if something stops working
after you turn off the second server then turn it back again.  Everything should be back to normal.

  • "Send As" permission fails with users in second domain on same server

I have several users setup on an Exchange 2010 SP3 server with domain "domain1.com". "Send As" and full Permission access works fine and flawless between those users who need it.
Now I have added a second authorative Domain (domain2.com) on that server and set up a few users. Those domain2 users can send/receive email in domain2.com without problems.
I wanted to give certain users in domain1 "Send As" and Full Access permissions on a domain2 user mailbox. Full Access works, but sending a message won't work. The error that comes back is the same as if "Send As" permissions was not
assigned to that user. But I explicitly assign this permission.
Is this a known issue and there is a fix for it? Or is this simply not possible?
    Thanks
    Dan

First, you should not use both Send As and
“Send on behalf of” pick one or other. Another thing, if you are using
Send As, find the user in
    Active Directory Users and
Computers right click the user and select properties, Click
    Security
    Tab then presses the
    Advance button.
In there you should see the User listed under there with Send As permissions. If you do not see this that’s the main reason why you cannot “Send As”. Send As is an AD
ACL not Exchange. If you have set this in the EMC and it has not replicated or updated the ACL’s in Active Directory then you might have a delay/latency or a replication issue with Active Directory.
    Hi Swetha,
    Thanks for your reply.
I am only using "Send As" and not "Send on behalf".
The Send-as permissions are visible in the AD for that user.

  • How to add additional email using second domain name?

BC is currently hosting wa-cs.com and we are using email address pointing to that domain. We added wolfeassociates.com domain name to the site and now want to setup emails with that domain name in addition to the wa-cs.com. This should be simple but the option to setup does not appear available.
Is there a solution? Thanks, Greg

    Hi Greg,
When you create an email account on the main domain, and alias will automatically be created on the second domain as well. So, when you create [email protected], the system will automatically create an [email protected]
Email sent to either of the two addresses will end up in the same inbox.

  • Can I Point A Second Domain

I understand that I can use a domain name with my iWeb site on MobileMe, but is it possible for me to point a second domain name so that it works with the site also? If so how?

MobileMe allows only ONE domainname. With or without iWeb.
It's frequently discussed in the MobileMe forum.
To point a second domainname to a specific Site or page, use URL forwarding (with or without masking).
You configure that where you manage you domainname.
iWeb is not involved. It works with any webpage.

  • Setting up second domain at work. It tries to take over DHCP for both domains.

So I have an existing older domain (Server 03 r2) and it's working normally.
I'm setting up a second domain, server 08 r2. Each time I activate DHCP on it it begins handling IPs for both domains causing other issues related to DNS.
They are different IP Schemas. The existing functional is a 192.168._._. The new is internaly 169.254._._, and has a static IP for the other NIC and ultimately the internet connection. The internal networks exist on the same subnet mask for a level of crossover
    for future data transitions.
On the 08 server I'm also having DNS issues. It works fine if I have both NICs plugged in, but not with just the external IP plugged in. It would appear it was giving out it's own domain IPs and getting it's DNS from the existing domain, which puzzles me
as all these items are set to static on the cards.
I would love any available help.
    Thank you!

Do the same DHCP zones exist within the same switch or VLAN?  If so, they're both going to offer DHCP to any device that requests it regardless of what domain that machine may already belong to.  The first DHCP request that the device sees will
win.  You can really only have one per switching segment.
For the DNS issue, when you say the existing domain, do you mean the 2003R2 domain?  From a command prompt if you run ipconfig /all do you see the 2003 R2 server in there as a DNS Server?  Do you see the 2008 R2 server listed?  If you don't
see the 2003 R2 server, it may just be that you're getting results from a broadcast.
You may just need to split these two domains onto separate VLANs if they're not already.

    Hello Apple Support!

1 domain is set as primary SMTP for mailbox, mailbox connected to Iphone with ActiveSync,
We have created possibility to send as using second domain with Distribution list in Microsoft Outlook.
Is it possible to get option on Iphone to Send As from another email address (second domain) with ActiveSync?
    Thank you!

  • How to add a second domain to BPC?

    Hi guys
I need to add users from a second domain to my BPC setup.
The domains are completely unrelated (not parent/child or anything), so I need to know what I need to do.
I assume that I need to add a trust relationship in Active Directory, but are there any specific additions that I need to make to BPC (any entries in the database or anything like that)?
I can't find anything on doing this, so if anyone has any ideas (or better yet, if anyone has actualy done this before), please let me know.
    Thanks

Actually, I just found something in the NW Ops manual, but need clarification:
    DDIC Table Name:   UJA_DOMAIN
    Remote Function Call:   UJ0_API_BPC_CONFIG_05
    Configuration data included:   Supported domain
    Table Fields:
MANDT u2014 SAP GUI Logon Client Number
GROUP_NAME u2014 The logic group of the system user
DOMAIN_TYPE u2014 Specifies whether the system is running in domain or work group mode
DOMAIN_NAME u2014 Name of the domain
READ_ONLY u2014 Indicates whether the value can be changed
So once the domains trust each other (I assume I can configure the usual 2-way transitive trust in this scenario),
does this mean that I can simply add entries to this table and BPC should allow users from the additional domain, or is there more to it than this?
    Thanks again

  • Error: Key already added to dictionary " domain \ username "

    Hello Community
In Sharepoint 2013 Server I created a managed account.
But when I try to create the Search Service application
with that managed account as the configurable an error message
appears stating some to the effect that:
         Key already added to dictionary "<domain>\<username>" : ... "<domain>\<username>"
        Since I couldn't use that same "<domain>\<username>", I created
another new managed account and used that new managed account to create
the Search Service and it worked.
The question is why do I get that error stating:
            Key already added to dictionary "<domain>\<username>" : ... "<domain>\<username>" ?
        Thank you
        Shabeaut

Is it specific to some particular managed account or for all the managed accounts ?
Does that managed account exists twice ?
Have a look at the following links if it gives you any pointers.

  • Added a second IP to our server = Now users can't log-in

    Hi,
I had a server that was working fine. It had one external IP address. I then added a second external (dedicated) IP address to the same ethernet port, by adding a second port in "Network Preferences" and manually typing in the IP configuration - just as I did for the original ethernet interface when the server was originally configured.
The reason I added a second IP address is so that I could run Apache2 on port 80 on the new IP while continuing to run Apache1.3 on port 80 of the original IP.
Of course now I've screwed up the reverse DNS and such and my users can't login over AFP (though SMB is ok). My initial IP has a properly configured reverse lookup, the new IP does not. The new IP is using the ISP's default domain name.
In a situation like this, am I supposed to configure both IPs to resolve to the same computer name? myServer.company.com ? Or should each IP resolve differently..
    Thanks
    Woody

Of course now I've screwed up the reverse DNS and

How do the users connect to AFP? WAN or LAN, Hostname or IP ?

Reverse lookups (PTR records) shouldn't come into it. If users use a hostname to connect then all you will need is an A record to convert the hostname to an IP. If they use an IP to connect, then no DNS is accessed. So if you cannot connect directly using the IP address then it suggests firewall or config - test for open 548 port etc.

  • Adding a second internal HDD on a Satellite A350-20s

    I have a Satellite A350-20s.
It is described in its documentation as having the option to add a second internal 2"5 hdd, and a indeed there is a place reserved for it..
The problem is that when I remove the cover to insert the hdd there is no connector.
So, how to do it ?

    Hi buddy,
Well, I have even checked the manual of my Satellite A350 and there you can see that the manual shows second HDD slot. But as Paolo30 wrote installing such a HDD is depending on the HDD controller You can only install such a HDD if you have a second HDD connector.
In my opinion all its ok because the manual doesnt mention that adding a second HDD is possible on every notebook. ;)
By the way: If you need more disk space you can use an external HDD, for example 2.5 one. Such HDDs dont need an additional power supply, you need only an USB cable to connect it. ;)

I have followed the instruction relating to Icloud connection. When i went to system preferences, my Apple address is continually rejected. I have added a second email as suggusted by an Apple site but i still get the same message. Im not told why the Apple ID/email is not accepted when it is accepted in all other Apple sites. I changed my password numerous times to ensure it wasnt the password but to no result. It continued to state that my Apple ID was the problem. I live in Malta,Europe. Have new Apple Mac Pro and Ipod. The annoying thing is that ICloud continually send me the problem notice but do nothing to tell me how to fix it? Can i switch this notice off? Help???????

Welcome to the Apple community Yao.
If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

  • Adding a second time capsule?

I've reviewed some of he discussion on adding a second Time Machine but two issues arise.  The information relates to older Time Machine software and leads to confusion.
I have an Airport Extreme with S/W version 7.6.4 and would like to add a newer Airport Extreme to back up the older one.  Reading the suggestions on adding a new TC didn't cover the newer Time Machines and I could find Apple's instructions for doing it.
Somewhere I read that the new TC could be connected to the old TC but forgot the port setup.  Also, newer instructions for adding a second TC so both the old and the new acquire the same data could not be found.
Hope This question is clear.  Is there help on this?

The network setup is fairly trivial.
Plug TC2 into TC1. (the hardware is Time Capsule.. TC as per your title.. or is it Airport Extreme as per your question..?? Time Machine is software on your computer.. and totally unrelated to the hardware.)
Makes no difference which way around you do it. Plug WAN of the 2nd device into LAN of the 1st device. And setup the 2nd device in bridge.. wireless is up to you.. off or on?? Roaming or not??
As far as backup is concerned.. you need to be clear in the question. And sorry it is a bit mixed up now.
But I can tell you what you cannot do.
You cannot backup to both units at once. You can however setup Time Machine in the computer to backup sequentially to both.
    See Q34 http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
The TC itself cannot backup to another TC.
(extreme with hard disk amounts to the same thing.. with caveats)
You can backup one TC to another manually via a computer.. it is slow and I do not recommend it.. if a fault creeps into backup1, you are simply copying said fault to backup2.. AND it is poor for another reason.. Time Machine cannot do it.. you will need another utility eg Carbon Copy Cloner.. and even then you will probably end up backing up a huge amount of data every time.. since TM works so strangely you cannot just backup differences.
