Adding Effects to text layers now causing image to "disappear."

Ever since the latest update to PS CS6, when I add a simple effect to a text layer, like emboss, the working image disappears when I zoom in and out. Also, the layer effect does nothing to the type. It's almost like a dispay issue. When I turn the layer effect off, my image is visible again. Here's what it looks like:

There were some bugs in layers with the latest update, especially on a Mac.  Adobe is working on it.

  • Adding Effects to text in individual cells of a table

    Hello every one,
    I am creating a five day calendar for a larger day timer. I have used a table to format all my information now I just wanted to add effects to some of the text( drop shadow to the name of the month and what not). Is there a good way to add effects to just one cell of a table? So far I can only add effects to the entire table. I am using Indesign cs5 on a Mac. Also does any one know of a good calendar creating script or template? I am currently using calendar magic but it is a little limited and cant make independent mini calendars or weekly calendars.
    Thanks

    Hi Mike,
    I tried with your suggested solution.
    The text was hypertexed but when i click to display the text which is linked to it is not shown.
    In general text i had linked the Text to a file to open after click on the hypertext by using Append Hypertext Link Anchor to Report.vi by stating the URL or the File Path to its input.
    I am attaching the VI for your reference.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Why are my text layers turning to jibberish?

    I'll try to explain everything the first time around. Adobe CC 12.2.1.5
    Mid 2011 27 in IMac
    2.7 GHz Intel i5 processor
    8 GB 1333MHz DDR3 RAM
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5
    I have Comp that is a duplicate of another Comp that I added about 20 text layers too. I did this because it is a 6 part video series with the same minute long intro. It was filmed on a green screen and keyed out using primatte. I am using the Kandal font from TypeKit. I have used this font for the last 6 months with no problem.
    Right before I rendered out to h.264 I restarted my computer (as I usually do) so the RAM would clear and it would render a few minutes faster. When I opened the project back up I noticed that the lower thirds comp I added in had jibberish font as well as text layers. It also appears this way inside After Effects. It is inconsistent and effects different frames in different areas and it does NOT affect all text. Someone please tell me how to fix this. Screenshots below (I cut out a lot because it is a client)
    The photo above was a screenshot from inside after effects
    The video below has part blurred out because it is a client but shows the problem in action.

    I just tried highlighting all of my text layers and changing the font and then changing it back as well as changing the font size slightly (It used to work when I had problems with Keylight even though it sounds crazy). So far the render looks like it working but I'll know for sure in about 30 minutes.

  • Adding Effect (e.g shadow ) to image in Fxz files.

    Hi
    Can somebody show me how can I added Effect like shadow to images in the FXZ files ?
    Below is an e.g of FXZ converted by “JavaFX Production Suite” from a svg file produce by inkscape.
    I know an alternative is to edit the FXZ file.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Why don't Premier CC Text Layers Translate to After Effects?

    hi there,
    when I transform my edit into an after effects composition from the premier timeline the text layers all come over as black solids and the text content is lost.
    I don't give two hoots as to your no doubt legitimate technical reasons for this, but the bottom line is that it sucks, it's a waste of my time and effort and it just seems like a simple thing that you should have implemented from the ground up when building the dynamic linking between AE and PR.
    Is there an expected timeframe for the issue to be addressed?
    Just to explain my typical workflow a little, I'm an editor/motion artist, so it's very frequent I'll lay out all my picture assets and text objects on a video edit timeline alongside vo and music, and once I'm happy with the flow I move the timeline over to Ae to commence animation for tv commercials, political spots, advocacy work, whatever.
    Having all my text get lost in the translation feels like a clumsy oversight for what is an otherwise great workflow.
    Ta!

    Thanks for your response Andrew.
    making my text layers in a separate program? no thank you. the reverse is possible? (ae text to pr) good lord why?!?!?! (I don't get that as I would never work that way but I'm overjoyed for those that do)
    I don't like the idea of having an extra program in the loop, it's just convoluted, if I was placing the text specifically around images in Pr, then I would have to send the image over to Ps too just to achieve the same layout - more work than neccessary! Most of the time I do most of my Ps tasks in Ae anyway because I'm just faster in Ae.
    In truth I'm not even a fan of my edit and my graphics being in separate packages.  I'm running into a lot of video edit issues in Ae nowadays. The idea that you're your're script or picture locked before you get into animation is redundant.  I want all my edit flexibility in Ae ideally but the dynamic link stuff - if you use a few sneaky workarounds basically works well.
    If I could have my wish...I want a program that is my edit, graphics/compositing/paint and also 3d all in one. Because I'm a ninja and I can deal. Wanted this for the last 10 years. Still waiting. I should just probably learn to use a Smoke...

  • Adding Text to a Buffered Image

    Hey
    I am trying to add text to a bufferedimage image and have tried a couple of ways.
    I cannot seem to get it to work propely though. Everytime i try, the text appears but the image appears inside the lettering of the text and not under it like i want it to.
    Could someone please explain the best way of place text on TOP of an image as i am really stuck now :(
    Thanks in advanced for any help

    Basically paint your buffered image into a new BufferedImage and then paint in the new text on top.
    Here's a demo.

  • Text layers from PSD is converted as images when imported to Muse

    I want to import text layers from PSD files into Muse as text and not as images. Currently when I insert the text layers, they are converted into images. Is there a way to do this?

    Hi Jeffree, I have lot of content in my page and I need the same exact position of the text in my page. I am trying to automate it so that I can avoid copy paste error. Is there a way to make the psd text layer import to export as text in MUSE?
    Appreciate your help.

  • How do I mask text across layers to an image at bottom layer?

    I have several layers of text which I want to mask to a bottom layer, which is a moving image.
    The text layers appear in sequential chronological order to make a sentence (and I need them on several layers for positioning). The first word's mask works great, but none of the other texts/masks end up showing as they are on lower layers and are being masked
    I also want the masked out area to be black.
    I am attaching an image which shows what I want, but imagine each word is on a different layer, show up sequentially, and are surrounded by black.
    Thanks!

    Use text animators to reveal your text. Use the text layer as a track matte for the video. All that is required is two layers.
    If you insist on having each word on a separate layer, precompose your animated text layers and then use the pre-comp as an alpha track matte for your video.
    These are AE basics.

  • Adding Alt text to prducts catalog images...

    I cannot find information on how to add Alt Text to my product images in the catalogs. Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Andre

    If you use {tag_largeimage_path} that gives you the raw URL of the large image for example and you can then set this up in your own html with alt tag of say the product name or title.

  • After Effects CS6: Adjacent text layers overlap by one frame, can't fix it

    Adjacent text layers, which we are using to subtitle bits of video, butt up against each other and in some instances it's fine (the text changes at the correct frame), but in others the text from the first one bleeds by one frame into the second and overlaps. If I shorten the time on the first one by one frame, there is a gap with no text. How can I fix this? The comp is built from the video so the frame rate of the comp is the same for the video file.
    Thanks for any help!
    Glen

    Thanks very much Mylenium for your help - I've scoured the file looking for everything you mention, and there anything fancy at all. I'm using no time-stretching or remapping, simply putting a text layer on top of a video, and moving its in and out points. No blurs or odd keyframes as far as I can tell. Video and comp are both 29.97 framerate (comp created using "New comp from selection").

  • Add layers from other psd file and retain text layers (Batch processing)

    I want to batch process a large number of portraits adding text info from the filename (year_name_number.jpg) to existing text layers. I want to make a template psd file containg the correct labeled text layers formatted and adjusted (With bleding effects and more) How can i add layers from an other psd file to the active document and retaining the text layers editable. The place command in PS5 adds the file as a smart object, no use.
    Any ideas?
    I tried the combined action/script way, but no joy so far. Right now i am making the text layers with a action, then calling the script from the action. It works but its difficult to make different templates from adjusting a action.
    The code i am using now (in combination with a action creating the 3 text layers and other grapchical elements)
    var docRef = activeDocument;
    // strip the extension off
    var fileNameNoExtension = docRef.name;
    fileNameNoExtension = fileNameNoExtension.split( "_" );
    if ( fileNameNoExtension.length > 1 ) {
                    fileNameNoExtension.length--;
    fileNameNoExtension = fileNameNoExtension.join("_");
    var myString = fileNameNoExtension;
    var mySplitResult = myString.split("_");
    var textLayer = docReflayers['Year']; // define the existing text layer to a var
    docRef.activeLayer = textLayer;
    textLayer.kind = LayerKind.TEXT;
    var T1 = textLayer.textItem;
    T1.contents = mySplitResult[0]
    var textLayer = docRef.layers['Name']; // define the existing text layer to a var
    docRef.activeLayer = textLayer;
    textLayer.kind = LayerKind.TEXT;
    var T2 = textLayer.textItem;
    T2.contents = mySplitResult[1]
    var textLayer = docRef.layers['Number']; // define the existing text layer to a var
    docRef.activeLayer = textLayer;
    textLayer.kind = LayerKind.TEXT;
    var T3 = textLayer.textItem;
    T3.contents = mySplitResult[2]

    Here is my intended workflow:
    - A set of same size portraits labeled "year_name_number.jpg"
    - A template.psd os same size with graphical elements and text layers (named "year", "name" and "number")
    - A script or action copy/pasting og adding all layers from the template.psd file to the open portrait file, retaining text layers editable.
    - A script (The one i have working) changing the text layers added from the template to text from the filename.
    - A action saving this as a PDF ready for print.
    This way i can process a large number of portraits, add names and other information and save it as a file ready for print.
    I can image it is much easier to edit a template than writing a script or an action creating all the graphical elements.
    And even better, to change this template for different customers/departments/logos.
    Basically i need a way to add layers to an open file using a batch file or script.

    OK I understand what your trying to do and now I do not agree with your conclusion you made in you first append about place being no good for you.  Its is I think a perfect solution for you. I feel you need to address the process from a new angle.
    I am very familiar with templates I use them all the time for collages which I populate with an actions.  However I do not batch this process and my process is interactive.  If you look at what your trying to do from the angle of creating a collage.  You will see what you are trying to do is automate the population of a single image collage using a single template in a batch process.  An example of one of my single image collage populated by one of my actions that has been saved as a jpeg image file.  My actions are played in Photoshop with no document opened.  After my action is play there is a single collage document in Photoshop that contains layers that can be tweaked all text is in text layers the can be edited.
    If I wanted to automate the batch population of a single collage template I think all I would need to know is three thing.
    1.) The location of the input images
    2.) The full Path of the PSD template file.
    3.) The location to store the output  file
    Looking at some of the recent threads in this forum I could almost cut and past the script you want to put  together.  There was a recent thread that had javascript code to process files in a folder and process only a list of file types.   There also was a thread that had a place function in it to place images into the current document or create a new document to place the image into.  The image was read from the web using a URL.  This thread has code to change a text layer.  At first I though you may need to open these image file to get at its meta-data to get the Portrait image Exif creation data.  But see all you need is the Filename for it has the data you want the year and name.  So the function that get the image files from the folder will give you that. The   Script needs to Open the Template PSD file and retrieve the prototype text layers text content  then the scrip needs a loop that get the next image file to be processed from the folder get filename function. In the loop the image files are place into the open template above a place holder layer like the Background layer. Then using the prototype text contents and the filename are used  create the new content for the text layer and then change the text layers content to it.  Follow that up with a save as for the output file.  Once the output file is saved delete the placed smart object layer.  When this loop ends the script will close the document with no save and end. As for the three inputs you need  the script could either have a dialog like the images processor or simply prompt you for the folders and template file.

  • In AE CS6 I have 2 3D text layers swapping poition as the camera pulls back from them.

    In AE CS6 I have 2 3D text layers swapping poition as the camera pulls back from them. One layer has a blur added and if I switch off the fx then they stay in the correct order.
    The whole comp consists of 25 tiles (2500x2500px) laid out in 3D as a surface, it is a large map, and the text, which are place names, are at 90 degrees to it. I have placed nulls on the surface to to anchor lights and text to the correct points on the map.
    I wanted a drop shadow behind the text to aid legibility against the background but since using a layer style breaks the render order in 3D space I have duplicated the text, made the front layer white and the back layer black and added a fast blur to the back layer.
    There are expresions to fix the position of the text layers to a null, another expression that rotates both layers linked to rotation of the null that the camera orbits around and also a scale expression that links the scale of the text to the distance from the camera, so the text stays the same size in the frame no matter how far or close the camera moves. In the comp the text layers are next to each other, the white is the index number above the black.
    This has all worked fine. The camera, pulls back, rotates around and the text faces the camera and stays a constant size in the frame. Then I was asked to tweak the move. Suddenly the two text layers swapped round, the black shadow layer obscuring the white text when the camera is in close. As the camera pulls back they go back to their proper positions. However if I turn off the fast blur then they both do what they ought too, white renders ontop of the black no matter what the distance.
    Does anyone have a clue as to why?

    It's not just a preview issue though, as it also renders out. So there's something going on.
    My fall back was going to be to switch to 2D text and use an expression to link it's 2D comp position to the null in 3D world space.
    Totally forgot about the Drop Shadow effect, I've been using layer styles for so long now, as there's more control control over the look, but Drop Shadow appears to be working.
    Many thanks for that. A big help!

    Is it possible to show a JLabel over another JLabel?

    Solution 1:
    JLabel is a container, So you can add any component on top of JLabel but normally it will not display but if you set any layout then you can see the added component.
        public static void solution1() {
         JFrame frame = new JFrame();
         frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
         JLabel bigImg = new JLabel(new ImageIcon("F:\\tmp\\bigImg.jpg"));
         JLabel logo = new JLabel(new ImageIcon("F:\\tmp\\logo.gif"));
         frame.getContentPane().add(bigImg, BorderLayout.CENTER);
         bigImg.setLayout(new FlowLayout(FlowLayout.RIGHT, 0, 0));
         bigImg.add(logo);
         frame.pack();
         frame.setVisible(true);
        }Disadvantage : if the label size was changed depends on the layout the position of the logo goes outside of the big image(in the above example maximize the window to see that issue).
    Solution 2:
    draw the logo image on top of the big image.
        public static void solution2() {
         JFrame frame = new JFrame();
         frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
         ImageIcon bigImg = new ImageIcon("F:\\tmp\\bigImg.jpg");
         ImageIcon logo = new ImageIcon("F:\\tmp\\logo.gif");
         int w = bigImg.getIconWidth();
         int h = bigImg.getIconHeight();
         BufferedImage bf = new BufferedImage(w, h, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
         Graphics2D g2d = bf.createGraphics();
         g2d.drawImage(bigImg.getImage(), 0, 0, frame);
         g2d.drawImage(logo.getImage(), 0, 0, frame);
         JLabel label = new JLabel(new ImageIcon(bf));
         frame.getContentPane().add(label, BorderLayout.CENTER);
         frame.pack();
         frame.setVisible(true);
        }Advantage : whenever the label component size changed the logo must be on the big image of the same position because the logo was painted on top of the big image.

  • Text Problem - 'Editing or Rendering the text layer will cause the layout to change'

    Hello all,
    The problem I'm having is that when I try to edit a text layer, the layout of the layer changes completely - I have a grey warning triangle in the affected layer thumbnail that states the following message when I hover over it :
    'Font is present on system but requires a layout change'
    When I double click to edit the text layer, the following warning dialog pops up:
    'Editing or Rendering the text layer will cause the layout to change'
    I'm forced to click 'okay' to proceed which is when the layout of the text layer changes completely! Obviously this has massive implications for branding and page consitency!!
    Now even if I have to do this the long way round, which means rebuilding each individual text layer for every single document, there is another problem, it appears that after I click 'OK' photoshop distorts the text! This means that I can't increase or decrease the font size to match it up! Same font, Same height, same AA, same weight, different circle radius!
    Any help is massively appreciated,
    I'm using CS5 64bit Cloud edition on Windows 7, I've already tried updating and reinstalling Photoshop but it doesnt remedy the problem, I've reinstalled a sample batch of the fonts affected and deleted any plugins
    GULP!

    That warning is pretty clear - you don't appear to have the font on your system. Not sure what otehr answer you are looking for. The layout changes beyond that could be indicative of a million things like the original source layers having been heavily customized with manual kerning, used a different version of a seemingly similar font, have been created with glyph substitution on a system with a different language and whatever... Unless you mean you created the files yourself just yesterday and the warning appears despite nothing have changed, everything works as intended. If you think something is up, you need to provide more info.

  • Can't get rid of beachball after creating text layers

    Created 7 simple text layers. All was fine till I added simple cross dissolve transition to all layers at once. Now constant beachball. And can't even open any projects after force quitting. In fact as soon as I got to project library and move my mouse I get the beachball.
    Any ideas?

    Try deleting the project render files. Quit FCP X, then lin the Finder locate the folder for your project inside the "Final Cut Projects" folder, then trash the "Render Files" folder inside it. See if that helps.
