Adding flv movie to dreamweaver page

so I am trying to add a flv to a dreamweaver page... looking at the help files.. I need to have either Sorenson Squeeze or On2 codecs... both which cost money..    It was initially a wmv file. which I converted to flv...
is this true that I need to pay hundreds of dollars for either Sorenson or On2 codecs to have these video files displayed on my html file?   I do use dreamweaver.
is there any other way to do this?  or is it definite that I have to purchase from the above.
If not, how else do I display an flv file in dreamweaver...
appreciate all knowledge.
thanks in advance.
J.

If you already have an FLV file in your possession, Save it to your DW Local Site folder.  I like to put my videos into a Media folder, but that's not mandatory.
In DW, hit Insert Menu > Media > Flash Video > Progressive Video Download.
Browse to the Flash Video file -- in your local site folder.
Choose a player skin.
Hit OK.
Upload page and all dependant files to your remote server.  Be sure to include your Scripts folder, FLV and SWF files.
If your native video is in some file type other than FLV, you must convert it first.
RIVA Flash Encoder for Windows is free.

You'll find a boat load of others in a Google search.
Good luck!

In newer versions of Flash Pro, you can export to HTML5 Canvas, that's probably what they're talking about: Flash Professional Help | Creating and publishing an HTML5 Canvas document
.FLV and .SWF are Flash formats that won't show up on iOS (or an ever increasing number of other mobile devices). Mobile Flash was killed by Adobe a couple years ago, so the number of mobile devices that can see it is dwindling rapidly, don't use those formats if you want your viewers on mobile devices to see your content.

  • Adding a .flv file into dreamweaver

I'm wondering how I can put a .flv file into a web page. It
is not a .swf. I'm working with Dreamweaver MX 2004.
When I put my .flv video into the page, it refuses to accept
it when I want to preview. Any suggestions? Source plugins required
or something? Also, I'm working on a Mac.
The .flv file is mine, not created in flash, but pulled back
from daily motion.com where it was compressed by their servers and
is an .flv file. Is this doable?

You need a Flash file to load the Flash Video file, they are

  • Adding .swf file to Dreamweaver CS3 page?

In Dreamweaver MX, I used to import .swf files, view them,
and they worked, both in Dreamweaver and on the web. But trying out
Dreamweaver CS3, ,swf files I import don't seem to work for me.
They're visibly there when I view the Dreamweaver page, but they do

What do I need to do to get a .swf file to play?

Your code is sticking some stuff in there that my code
    doesn't
for example the version is different (that should be okay if
    you have
Flash 10 installed, but also notice the path on your script:

I suggest you try my code, of course changed to reference

  • Problem inserting Flash movie into a Dreamweaver page

Hi, I've inserted a .swf movie on this page.  It used to work, but doesn't now. In Dreamweaver (CC), when I highlight the movie and click 'Play' in the Property Inspector it works (but doesn't in 'Live' view within DW).
Please be gentle about my code. I'm a hobbyist and started this site about 7 years ago  so don't have time to keep up with latest coding trends! Answers re. non-appearance of movie only, please.

Flash really isn't the way to do this anymore, very few people viewing your site with a mobile device are going to be able to see your .swf. Adobe stopped mobile Flash development a few years back and most devices that used to be able to see Flash, no longer ship with a Flash plug-in. Certain devices, like all Apple iOS devices, never had the ability and there is no way to add it to those.
Since it appears when uploaded, I would guess the reason it doesn't work locally likely has something to do with your machine's security settings, especially if Microsoft is involved in the equation somewhere. If it works when uploaded, you're good to go.
HTML5 <video>, CSS3 and jQuery (javascript) are now the default for video and animation for websites since they're compatible with virtually all devices used to browse the internet.

  • FLV movies now poor quality

    Hi All,
I'm really struggling with this. In the past using DWCS3 I
have embedded FLV movie files into websites without a problem. For
    example,
    http://www.davehollington.co.uk/Video/video%20strangers.html
However, no matter what I do now with DWCS4, whenever I
embedd an FLV movie, the playback quality is jerky and poor. For
    example,
    http://www.cupcakemakeandbake.co.uk/lookatus/ourvideos.html
Even if I embed the first movie into a new page, it results
in a jerky (as if frames are skipping) playback.
I am not doing anything different. So, can anyone tell me if
they experience the same issue or even what I can do to resolve it?
    Cheers.

It isn't DW, but a combination of how you compressed the
    video, the
speed of your Web servers, the speed of your (my) connection,
    and all
    the connections in between.
In my case, both of those videos paused for buffering.
FWIW, I see you compressed cupcakemakeandbake_VP6_512K.flv
    with:
    Video: 364 Kbps
    Audio: 128 Kbps
For a total 492 K throughput rate. For my connection (basic
    cable,
typically 5 MB), I get my best results when I compress for a
    total of
300 Kbps. Likewise for my clients, though I send those
    through a
    streaming server.
And even though strangersinthenight.flv is compressed at a
    much higher
rate, my connection to davehollington.co.uk (talk-101) is
    much faster
    than my connection to cupcakemakeandbake.co.uk (123-reg) -
    today. In
fact, my tracert to cupcakemakeandbake.co.uk timed out at 30
    hops twice
    while writing this.
    Suggestion:
Try compressing the videos to a lower total throughput rate
    with the
software you're using to create the .flv files.
You could also try a test with the cupcake video on your
davehollington.co.uk server to see if it is running from a
    better host.
I can tell you that my connection to cupcakemakeandbake.co.uk
    from here
California isn't ideal at this moment.

  • FLV movie not playing in webpage

    Hi,
I need help here as I'm completely baffled.
I have created a. FLV movie which is placed in a webpage
created in Dreamweaver 8. I created the FLV in Flash 8 by importing
the Video and creating the Controls etc and placing all the files
in the same directory as the page.
On my own home computers, and also from the Hardrive, the
    movies work fine.
When placed on the work intranet site, the page loads, but
the FLV file is just a white blank page.
Is there something that needs to be chnaged on the Webserver
to play FLV's or am i missing something here.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Update:
Still cant figure out why the FLV file is a white box, but,
If I open the html page directly on the server it plays perfectly.
It seems to fail when opened from a linked page which is one
    directory back.
for example I have a list of links on a page.
    link one
    link two
    link three
each of these links target the html page in
    Folder1/linkone.html
    Folder2/linktwo.html
    Folder3/linkthree.html
Each folder has its required flv file and swf file beside the
    html file.
If I doubleclick the linkone.html file directly from the
    directory, it works fine.
But if I click the link from link one.html the page loads
fine but the movie stays white.

  • Centering a flash movie within Dreamweaver cs3 on Y axis

I have published a movie in Flash cs3 which has generated an html document however the Flash movie is not automatically centered I have attempted to centrally align the movie within Dreamweaver cs3 by adding:
<center> after the opening body tag and </center> befor the closing body tag
This method has centered on the X axis but not the Y axis
I would have put in a table or a div tag, but when I open the html doc in Dreamweaver I have no visible repressentation of the Flash movie in the design view as I would have if I had created an html document from scratch and draged the movie onto the page, all I can see is the "get flash" hypertext and some other text. I did actually experiment by creating a div tag and dragged my movie into it but ended up with two movies one sitting on top of the other when I ran it in a browser lol.  I'm quite intimdated by code and much prefer to work in the design view (wysiwyg and all that) which is quite restricting.
Any advice for centering on the Y axis would be much apreciated, Thanks in advance, Dave

I don't believe there is code to prevent this from happening
on a client computer. The default is enabled my Microsoft, what
should happen is a yellow bar should appear at the top of the
browser which will allow you view the content.
What might work is to use a program called Zinc by a company
call Multidmedia Limited www.multidmedia.com. Search the site for
samples, one of the samples is a Flash Browser this will run Flash
a browser that you can use. You will need to change the URL a bit
in the Flash code but it's very clear on how to do this.
What this will do is run your web site in a Flash browser I
did a quick test and I did not get any errors. The program will
create an EXE file. I also believe they have a MAC version if you
need one. With a simple "Autorun" call on the CD-ROM you could have
this up and running in not time.
Just be careful of how you call the pages. Since the web site
is not running from a Web server you need to make sure that your
links are local and not Site Root. The best way to test is to
disconnect your computer from your internet and see how it runs.
You want the CD to be self-contained and not have to get content
from the web (your end user may be on a laptop and not connected).
    Good Luck

  • Javascript error when adding Flash movie to DWCS3

getDocumentDOM: Argument number 1 is invalid.
If I click through the error messages, I finally get the
movie on the page and it seems to display okay in IE6 ahd FX.
I don't get the error when I load a Flash movie if I use DW
    8.
Do I need to reload DWCS3? Or is there a fix that I can
download. It seems to be a problem with DWCS3.

FLV is the video file itself. You need a player to actually
    play the
FLV. The player is an additional SWF file. Dreamweaver
    generates its own
SWF player, which must be uploaded to the server along with
    the
Javascript file it creates to make the whole thing work.
    Alternatively,
you can use another FLV player (such as Flowplayer) and
    manually insert
the correct code. Still - you need to upload all supporting
    files such
as the SWF player. Make sense?
Flash (the program) doesn't enter the picture at all unless
    you are a
Flash geek and have created your own player (SWF).

  • Adding a movie in iWeb using a movie template.

I wanted to add a small QuickTime movie to my web site.
I added a movie template page to the site and then dropped the movie to the box. In iWeb, I am able to click on the play button and the movie plays just fine. But when I publish the site and upload it, where the movie should be is just a Q for QuickTime.
So then I made a plain box with the enable as a hyperlink and a link to the movie. Just like I would to do a pdf file.
My question is how do I get the movie page to work? It looks better with the movie page.

  • Slide presentation for Dreamweaver page

Dumb question - how do I create a slide show presentation in
Flash (single pictures, no text) and then get it into a Dreamweaver
    page? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!1

The steps are fairly simple. I create a listener ,a loader
and an empty movie clip to load the images into. I write a
    listener_mc.onLoadInit function then I use the loader_mc.loadClip
to load the images into the empty movieclip. When the loading is
complete the onLoadInit function gets called and you can resize and
    center your images.

I have no idea how to do that, sorry for being a pain.
