Adding MP3 in Dreamweaver CS3

Hi,
I am new to this forum but I really need some help.
I am trying to link some mp3s onto my website using Dreamweaver CS3. I have tried two options:
Using a Flash button
For example: <a href="../music/track.mp3">Services</a>
Both instances do play the mp3 but they both open in a new window. They both open Windows Media Player.
Is there anyway I can press the play button without opening a new windows? I just want to be able to stop, play, pause, etc. just from that button.
Didn't consider embedding the files because I'll have a number of them a page.
Any help?

Thanks a million.

  • Adding .swf file to Dreamweaver CS3 page?

    In Dreamweaver MX, I used to import .swf files, view them,
    and they worked, both in Dreamweaver and on the web. But trying out
    Dreamweaver CS3, ,swf files I import don't seem to work for me.
    They're visibly there when I view the Dreamweaver page, but they do
    not play in any browser. Obviously, something has changed. What?
    What do I need to do to get a .swf file to play?
    Thanks for your help.

    Your code is sticking some stuff in there that my code
    doesn't
    for example the version is different (that should be okay if
    you have
    Flash 10 installed, but also notice the path on your script:
    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/director/sw.cab#version=10,1,1,0
    which is going to director instead of flash.
    I suggest you try my code, of course changed to reference
    your flash file.
    Here's my code for a flash file:

  • Adding a dropdown menu in Dreamweaver CS3

    I already have a navigation bar and some links on it and I
    want to add a pop-up menu to one of those links.
    Unfortunately Adobe has removed the MX pop-up menu
    functionality from Dreamweaver CS3 and the only way that I can see
    to make pop-up menus is to create a brand new complete menu bar
    using sprytes.
    But I don't want a complete menu bar, I want to add some
    popup menu items to an existing navigation link.
    Does anyone know how to do this with Dreamweaver CS3?
    Thanks

    Any sample code in SDK to add a drop down menu to a toolbar button in the plugin? Basically, I am trying to do something like below. A button with a dropdown sub menu and hook up some events to each submenu.
    I could get some help in SDK to build menu items and attach it to a main menu, but I am not sure whether I can use the same code to attache it to a toolbar button something like "Secure" button above in the screen shot.
            AVMenuItem MenuItem1 = AVMenuItemNew ("SubMenu Item 1", "ADBE:submenu1", MainMenu, true, NO_SHORTCUT, 0, NULL, gExtensionID);
            AVMenuItem MenuItem2 = AVMenuItemNew ("SubMenu Item 2", "ADBE:submenu2", MainMenu, true, NO_SHORTCUT, 0, NULL, gExtensionID);
            AVMenuAddMenuItem (MainMenu, MenuItem1, APPEND_MENUITEM);
            AVMenuAddMenuItem (MainMenu, MenuItem2, APPEND_MENUITEM);
    A sample code snippet will also help me. Thanks in advance.

  • Disappearing palettes in Dreamweaver CS3

    After launching Dreamweaver CS3 on my MacBook Pro in Mac OSX
    10.4.9, I discovered that my insert bar, properties palette and
    many of the other palettes had become transparent with only their
    title bars visible. Clicking inside the invisibale areas simply
    brought the desktop or whatever was visible underneath to the
    front. I searched for every forum and Google search with no luck.
    If anyone else is experiencing this, I found the solution and offer
    it here.
    There is a conflict with Unsanity's ShapeShifter interface
    customization program. When ShapeShifter is enabled, it will cause
    palettes in Dreamweaver CS3 on an Intel Mac to become transparent.
    To resolve this, go the System Preferences window and click on
    ShapeShifter. Click on the Exclude List tab, click the Add button
    and select the Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 application icon and click
    Add.
    Relaunch Dreamweaver and everything should be back to normal,
    except that the Dreamweaver interface will return to the original
    Aqua scheme.
    Apparently, this happens only in Dreamweaver CS3 and no other
    Creative Suite apps seem to be affected.

    There's another fix that saves the cosmetics at the cost of a
    little speed. Make sure Dreamweaver is closed. Select the
    Dreamweaver CS3 application, then Get Info. Check the box to run
    the program under Rosetta. Close Get Info. When you relaunch
    Dreamweaver (assuming you haven't added it to Shapeshifter's
    exclude list), it will open with the palettes showing properly and
    with the Shapeshifter theme applied.

  • Floated element breaks Design view in Dreamweaver CS3

    I've tried searching for this issue but haven't found a fix yet and could use some help.
    I am redesigning a site and am adding a fluid box to the page. This floated element breaks Design View in Dreamweaver CS3 but appears correctly in the Firefox, Chrome, and IE.  I can get the element to appear correctly in Design View after I make minor changes to the page's HTML or CSS, however it always breaks when I save the file.
    I've tried many work-arounds including adding an absoutely defined container div, altering the various div sizes, adding <div class="clear"> before and after the element, to no avail.
    Ideally, I would like to have page appear correctly in Design View so that others in my lab can easily update the page (and not come to me with repeated questions!).
    I've included screen prints of how it looks in Design View and how it look in Chrome.
    THANKS! J
    Design Time error:
    Web Browser - correct view:

    I'll try CS4; however my main reason for finding a fix is so that others updating the page (w/ CS3) will be able to do so w/ the WYSIWYG editor that we purchased. We will not be upgrading to CS4 anytime soon either.
    Thanks

  • Resizing FLV files in Dreamweaver CS3

    Hello,
    I am adding videos to my websites' "videos main page", and these extra videos are going to be added to the videos currently in the flash player. I have already copied the jpg preview picture files and the flv video files into my website directory. To contain the extra data, I have already added the appropriate number of <li>'s to the index.html file of the videos folder. For each new video I have also added an <img src="...."> line to the images.xml file. The images.xml file has information regarding the id, location etc..of every video in general. It is shown below.
    images.xml file:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <gallery>
         <album id="videos" title="CBET Videos" description="CBET Video Gallery"
         lgPath="video_gallery/album1/videos/">
              <img src="2g_robotics.flv" id="2g_robotics" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/2g_robotics_preview.jpg" caption="2G Robotics"/>
              <img src="clearpath.flv" id="clearpath" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/clearpath_preview.jpg" caption="Clearpath"/>
              <img src="medshare.flv" id="medshare" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/medshare_preview.jpg" caption="Medshare"/>
              <img src="nalion.flv" id="nalion" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/nalion_preview.jpg" caption="Nalion"/>
              <img src="mbetcommercial.flv" id="mbetcommercial" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/mbet_commercial.jpg" caption="MBET Commercial"/>
              <img src="ocecbetcommercial.flv" id="ocecbetcommercial" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/oce_cbet_commercial.jpg" caption="OCE CBET Commercial"/>
              <img src="bostontrip08.flv" id="bostontrip08" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/boston_trip_08.jpg" caption="Boston Trip 2008"/>
         </album>
    </gallery>
    The only issue that I have, is that the videos themselves display in the player at a much smaller size, than the container size. I bet you could fit a three by three array of videos in my flash player. The first four img src lines are the videos that play at the correct size, and fill the flash player container, whereas the last three img src lines (the ones I added) are the videos that do not display at a correct size.
    Is there any way that I can resize the flv files so that they fill the container within the flash player in Dreamweaver CS3? I primarily assumed that one can simply change the pixel dimensions (width and height) properties of the flv file itself, but apparently this is an issue regarding formatting in Dreamweaver. Online I found that one can specify pixel dimensions in the images.xml file. Does anybody have any ideas? Its probably an easy thing.
    Thanks to everyone for coping with these details, and any help would be appreciated greatly.
    kind regards,
    Mr.V

    Hi
    There are a number of ways you may do this, the first would be to use the scale parameter for the flash player content, but the problem you will find is maintaining the aspect ratio and if your flv's are smaller the degradation in the quality when 'enlarging', see - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14149.html.
    The second way would be to use a combination of actionscript and javascript to proportionally 'enlarge' the flv, again the above problems apply.
    Finally you could change the size of the flash player to fit your 'new' flv using javascript, but this method would in all probability present layout problems for your user, a small change would be o/k, but the size of change you are talking about would not. The design would have to incorporate a fixed size div for the flash player, and resizing the player would leave a large amount of white space.
    It is possible to do this using a liquid layout, but again this would cause problems with page rendering.

  • Centering a flash movie within Dreamweaver cs3 on Y axis

    I have published a movie in Flash cs3 which has generated an html document however the Flash movie is not automatically centered I have attempted to centrally align the movie within Dreamweaver cs3 by adding:
    <center> after the opening body tag and </center> befor the closing body tag
    This method has centered on the X axis but not the Y axis
    I would have put in a table or a div tag, but when I open the html doc in Dreamweaver I have no visible repressentation of the Flash movie in the design view as I would have if I had created an html document from scratch and draged the movie onto the page, all I can see is the "get flash" hypertext and some other text. I did actually experiment by creating a div tag and dragged my movie into it but ended up with two movies one sitting on top of the other when I ran it in a browser lol.  I'm quite intimdated by code and much prefer to work in the design view (wysiwyg and all that) which is quite restricting.
    Any advice for centering on the Y axis would be much apreciated, Thanks in advance, Dave

    I don't believe there is code to prevent this from happening
    on a client computer. The default is enabled my Microsoft, what
    should happen is a yellow bar should appear at the top of the
    browser which will allow you view the content.
    What might work is to use a program called Zinc by a company
    call Multidmedia Limited www.multidmedia.com. Search the site for
    samples, one of the samples is a Flash Browser this will run Flash
    a browser that you can use. You will need to change the URL a bit
    in the Flash code but it's very clear on how to do this.
    What this will do is run your web site in a Flash browser I
    did a quick test and I did not get any errors. The program will
    create an EXE file. I also believe they have a MAC version if you
    need one. With a simple "Autorun" call on the CD-ROM you could have
    this up and running in not time.
    Just be careful of how you call the pages. Since the web site
    is not running from a Web server you need to make sure that your
    links are local and not Site Root. The best way to test is to
    disconnect your computer from your internet and see how it runs.
    You want the CD to be self-contained and not have to get content
    from the web (your end user may be on a laptop and not connected).
    Good Luck

  • Problems occuring in dreamweaver cs3 when inputing text/images

    Hi All
    I am having troubles with my version of Adobe dreamweaver cs3. I am creating a newsletter and have my stemplate all layed out, but everytime i go to paste text from a word doc my table goes wrong. My pixle width is 650 it then increases when adding the information. I have also been having trouble with inserting pictures, i want some aligned left and some right. Everything is ok on screen in dreamweaver but when i go to view it on the web the pictures do not align the way i want them to. The colums also have a mind of there own and seem to constantly need me to retype their width value.
    My newsletter is not too straight forward but i would have thought that dreamweaver would be able to cope with the way i have set it up. Because i studied the graphic side of design instead of the web side I have never been tought how to use dreamweaver in depth and have just picked it up myself.
    Is there a setting somewhere that i have missed that might be causing it to do these things?
    I hope someone can help me i have been struggling with this for months

  • I find that the older version of Dreamweaver (CS3) works best for me.

    I have used all new updated versions of Adobe Dreamweaver. Usually an update would make things easier for me but in this case it is the complete opposite. Don't get me wrong, Dreamweaver is still my primary choice for developing a website. I just find that for instance, Dreamweaver CS3 is more user friendly than CS5 & CS6 for example. Currently I'm working on a new website called [link removed]. It is where [link removed] , web store owners and unemployed individuals can try to find success to their needs. It is basically a one-stop spot to complete multiple tasks online and start generating a profit. It is like combining Etsy, Elance and SimplyHired into one. I created it all using Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 because I found it easier. That's just my opinion guys. What do you think?

    IE has been HTML5 compliant since IE9. There are still old goofy hold overs (like the automatic border on linked images) that you have to deal with, but its ability to render HTML5 elements is solid. CSS3 is a bit of a different story, IE9 was pretty bad, 10 was much better and 11 is pretty much a "modern browser" for its ability to render everything correctly, finally (thankfully and mercifully).
    All of the other major browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Android, Mobile Safari and Opera,) have been largely HTML5 compliant for years with just a few oddities left in obscure CSS3 attributes.
    With the HTML5 shiv/modernizers available for IE7 and 8 added to the code to help them with the "new" semantic tags like <header>, <aside>, <article>, etc, I agree with Nancy, there's no reason to not use HTML5 going forward.

  • Active X fix  in Dreamweaver CS3 is breaking...

    Hello All-
    I have searched until I am blue in the face and most of the
    issues around the Dreamweaver fix for "click to activate" issues in
    IE revolve around the end user in this case ME not uploading the
    scripts to the site...well I am lucky enough to understand that key
    step and have left it as Dreamweaver wants to do it, by installing
    in the root of the site in the Scripts folder, I have also moved it
    to the same level as the index.html and everywhere in between with
    no Avail... In IE after adding the automated scripts Dreamweaver
    includes I get a big fat Red X...Anyone else having this issue? I
    have updated Dreamweaver CS3 and it on the latest and greatest, all
    i want to do is embed the youtube video on a page. Any Ideas?
    To get to this I did the following: New html file, grab embed
    code from any youttube video, paste, save, close, open file again,
    allow dreamweaver to add the scripts and change the embed code,
    save, upload including the two scripts, open in IE and view a nice
    fat red X...
    Please see link below for the example...
    Here is the broken
    code
    Thanks in advance.
    John

    It ain't gonna work. In your case, you are falling afoul of
    the script
    itself. Here is what you have -
    <div><p>Youttube embed</p><script
    type="text/javascript">
    AC_AX_RunContent(
    'width','425','height','355','src','
    http://www.youtube.com/v/bkeycliUjSg&rel=1&border=0','type','application/x-shockwave-flash ','wmode','transparent','movie','http://www.youtube.com/v/bkeycliUjSg&rel=1&border=0'
    ); //end AC code
    Note that the FILENAME for the swf file in that line IS
    MISSING THE "SWF".
    This is because DW assumes that you are not going to be
    linking to a file
    with URL variables like you have there
    (&rel=1&border=0), and it
    automatically inserts the SWF there giving you a bogus link,
    e.g.,
    http://www.youtube.com/v/bkeycliUjSg&rel=1&border=0.swf
    See what I mean?
    For something like this, use this method -

  • Dreamweaver CS3 Flash Slideshow problems

    Hello,
    First off, my name is Mike and I would really appreciate anything that you can do to help me.
    I'm attempting to use Dreamweaver CS3's Flash Slideshow on a site that I'm building for a friend and I'm having troubles.  I have two major issues:
    1. I've uploaded my page to a test folder located on my own site.
    http://www.mikebailey1979.com/NoahTest/Main.html
    As you can see when you go to that page the Flash Slideshow is not appearing.  I've attempted to figure this issue out as much as I can, but I'm not getting anywhere.
    Using Dreamweaver to test I've deleted the AC script and it appears exactly like how it does now that it's live, so I believe that the problem lies in the Slideshow being able to find the script.  What I don't understand is that the AC_RunActiveContent.js is in a folder titled '..Scripts' (which is located in the same 'NoahTest' folder as the 'Main.html')and there should be no problem with it sourcing the Script.
    I'm perplexed as to why it's not reading the .js file.
    2. When I preview the site in my Dreamweaver Preview it works fine, except for the fact that it looks like it's padding the size of the pictures.
    I have all of the dimensions specific to the size of the slice in my site.  The slideshow should be 924x668 to match the slice exactly, so that's what I told it to be in width and height.  I've turned all borders to 0, frame thickness to 0, and I've even tried to add a command to change cell padding to 0, all with no effect.  I've made a still screen capture for you to see my problem.
    http://www.mikebailey1979.com/NoahTest/WhiteBorderProblem.jpg
    I've left the Background White so you can see how it's not sizing the Slideshow correctly.  So the White Border isn't really a border, but a sizing/spacing issue.  I don't know what could be causing this.
    If you could help me with one or both of these issues I would be so grateful.  Thanks for your time.
    Respectfully,
    Mike

    So, bemdesign, you're not seeing the white padding-like effect that I snapped a screen shot of?  See here:
    http://www.mikebailey1979.com/NoahTest/WhiteBorderProblem.jpg
    I've tested the page 'Main.html' that I have live right now using Firefox, IE8, and Safari, and it's still doing this padding issue for me (if that's even what it's supposed to be called).
    After a little research I found a post on another site where tons of people are having the same problem as me:
    http://brianchau.wordpress.com/2007/07/17/where-is-the-flash-element-in-dreamweaver/
    The very last post someone mentions that they fixed the issue that I'm experiencing by adding div tags specifying width and height.  I've tried implementing this, but since I'm somewhat novice with coding still I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly.  Adding the div tags in various places seems to have either no effect or it changes the w & h values of the entire page, both of which not being my intention.
    Can anyone here who is more advanced at coding than me who can tell me the proper way to implement the div tags in my situation?
    This is the code for my page:
    <code>
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Main</title>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">

    <!--
    body {
         background-color: #353535;
    -->
    </style>

  • Dreamweaver CS3 "Not Responding" every 15 seconds or so

    As with this post: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3649355#3649355
    I'm using Dreamweaver CS3 on Windows Vista, though on searching Google the problem seems to be occuring occasionally on CS4 and CS5 too. Working in code, all activity stops and (Not Responding) appears in the title bar. Nothing can be done for about 10 seconds, when suddenly everything works again. I've tried closing Dreamweaver and deleting the WinFileCache-AD76BB20.dat file and restarting. All works fine for a few minutes then the problem returns.
    I'm currently adding twitter/facebook/google plus buttons to my pages, each of these requires its own script.
    Can anyone suggest any possible solutions to this problem?

    Any chance of anyone having a guess at what I might explore to resolve this issue? At the moment Dreamweaver operates similar to junk - i.e. useless to the nth degree.
    ever hopeful,
    Kevin

  • Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 with ASP coldfusion and PHP search?

    I am working through Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 with ASP
    coldfusion and PHP with the intent of creating a data base site
    that primarily requires a search engine on the index page. The
    search page in the book uses specific search criteria ensuring that
    there will always be a match to the data base but I need to create
    an input text field search engine. My Q, if there is no data within
    the data base that match the variable, will it return with an error
    requiring an argument in the code to respond to no matching data.
    Hopefully there are comprehensive online recourses for these search
    engines as they are so common. I am a complete newby to all aspects
    of web development and code so it will need to be a thorough
    explanation, an idiots guide. ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED

    Rob,
    Let me try to answer your questions, understanding that my
    answers are laced with my experience and therefore my bias.
    1. For the most part the SQL that you write for Access, MS
    SQL or MySQL is going to be the same. I won't make that claim about
    Oracle or PostgreSQL because I have limited or no experience in
    those areas. To be sure when you head down the road with any DBMS
    there are finer points on 'value added' features (to over simplify
    things like MS SQL's Transact SQL), but for the most part when you
    are pulling out, inserting or deleting records the SQL that you
    write will be the same. In fact, I don't think I had to make any of
    the SQL in the book different to deal with the back end db.
    2. As for your host steering you away from MySQL, I don't
    know why that would be. It is MUCH more stable and robust than
    Access for web development. My research showed that you can use
    MySQL just fine with ASP though that clearly wouldn't be
    Microsoft's first choice.
    3. A quick aside, the fact that you are building ASP on a Mac
    would seem to indicate that you are developing on your production
    server. That's never a good idea. Go local if you can. If you have
    a newer Intel Mac you can use VM Fusion, Parallels or even Boot
    Camp to run Windows in a virtual environment and develop there,
    only moving your code to production when you are happy with it.
    There is of course the fact that they two environments would not be
    identical and you may need to change a few references, but it is
    still a better practice than developing on your live site. Some web
    hosts give you the ability to set up a subdomain. If yours does,
    you could set one up with a duplicate of your site and develop
    there.
    4. Let me try to pull your 'rant-let' apart into two issue. I
    begin with a question. I'm not sure what the Mac part has to do
    with it. The primary language I work in at my day job is
    ColdFusion. The majority of the most serious developers I know in
    the CF world work on Macs. I am forced into the PC world because of
    a cultural bias at the business school where I work. Having said
    that, the only time I have felt there was ANY difference in the
    tools, resources, choices I had was in any way affected by platform
    was when Adobe still had not released Flex Builder 2 for the Mac.
    Now that is behind us as well. This reaction of mine may be based
    on the fact that Access never comes into play in the work that I
    do. I regularly work with MS SQL and MySQL. (OK, so SQL Enterprise
    Manager, the MS tool of choice to talk to MS SQL is Windows only,
    but I only use that at the day job. But even there you can find
    cross-platform, free tools like Aqua Data Studio to talk from a Mac
    to MS SQL.) If I'm missing your point on the Mac, please let me
    know. Since the advent of the Intel Mac I think it is hands-down
    the best choice for a web developer. You can have Mac, Windows and
    Unix all on one machine. It doesn't get any better (providing you
    have the RAM :-)).
    As for the security question, it is somewhat analogous to the
    war on viruses and spyware. As the defenses get better, so do the
    attacks. Most languages have developed functions for vetting user
    input variables and best practices for building these things. It is
    mainly a user education issue. When I took over the book you are
    working out of, the one thing Jeffrey told me it needed was more
    security. I did my best to put more in under the constraints of the
    publisher. They didn't want the book to be any longer than the
    previous version. I did my best to modify the code used to include
    "string safe" functions and to add verbiage about the importance of
    security. It was clear that I could not add as much as was needed
    and I said so in the book. Much more is needed for a serious
    treatment of the subject and not acknowledging that would have been
    a disservice to the readers. I've been working as a developer for
    over a decade and I don't know all there is to know about it. It's
    a constantly changing field, just like all of web development. In
    fact next week I'm going through a 2-day SANS Web Application
    Security workshop in hopes of learning more. So at the risk of
    sounding like an industry apologist, I don't think it's a
    shortcoming of the development community. It is, as they say, "a
    developing situation".
    HTH,
    Bob

  • Dreamweaver CS3 win 7 access denied

    Hi,
    I recently moved the OS (Win 7) to a SSD disk and reinstalled.
    Now Dreamweaver CS3 don't let me save changes in the files ('Access denied').
    I see that this has been an issue earlier, but have found no solution for me.
    Read and write permissions are set on the folders for all possible users.
    If I open the file in Notepad and make changes I can save it!
    So why has Dreamweaver an 'access denied' to my files??
    /Larry

    SnakEyez02,
    Maybe I mislead you: I did not ’move’ anything to the SSD disk, made a clean new installation of Win 7.
    This is a bit of a mystery. To me.
    On the earlier Win 7 installation Dreamweaver CS3 behaved normally and saved/updated files.
    Now all other Dreamveaver CS3 components update normally, only Dreamweaver makes ‘Access denied’ when I try to save.
    I have tried to uninstall and reinstall Dreamweaver, same behaviour.
    The only thing I can think of that differs between the CS3 components is that the Dreamweaver web files are on ‘C:\inetpub\wwwroot\Mysite’, and that C: is more restricted.
    I have however added ‘write’ permission on all these folders for all possible users (except for ‘CREATER OWNER’, which does not accept any permissions).
    And, as I said, if I start Dreamweaver with ‘Run as administrator’ it saves newly changed files nicely.
    And I can make changes to these files in Notepad and save them.
    No, it seems as I am stuck with disabling User Account Control to be able to use Dreamweaver normally.
    /Larry
